New Email Notification Sound

Hi,
These Apple devices are getting a little popular. At my workplace I always hear the same old "ding" everytimes someone gets an email so a number of us reach for our devices to see which one it was for.
We are up to iOS4 so I imagine it is a choice to not allow configurable notification sounds. What possible (sensible) reason can there be?! It isn't exactly a complext feature.
The renowned Apple consistancy in operation is good but not for notifications. thats just confusing.

You can change your email alert sounds through the use of a free app. Download Boxcar from the app store, and have it alert you when an email arrives with one of its sounds. You can then turn off the email received sound in the settings on the iPad.
We do this in my house with 3 iphones and 2 ipads constantly dinging. Each person has a unique email arrival sound.

  • Email notification sound despite sound is on mute

    Why does my Retina iPad give email notification sound despite sound is on mute? My 1st generation iPad does not produce any sound if it's on mute.

    Are you sure that you have system sounds muted? Either the side switch or the task bar (double tap the home button and swipe to the right in the task bar to get to whatever icon is all the way to the left - sound or rotation lock) is how you mute system sounds.
    You could try Settings>General>Sounds>New Mail>None as well and that should turn off the sound. Just make sure that you do have system sounds muted first.
    This is my standard and somewhat long winded explanation regarding system sounds and the screen rotation lock.
    If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
    System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
    Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
    If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
    If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
    If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
    This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Outlook 2013 new mail notification sounds can't be changed

    I've got a weird issue with Outlook 2013 on Windows 8..  I've read several other posts that are kind of similar but they don't really apply.
    So, Outlook 2013 uses the "Desktop Mail Notification" sound event..  unless I change the .wav file assigned to that event.  Then it instead uses the "New Mail Notification" event.  Then when I change the .wav file assigned
    to THAT one, it changes again to instead use the "Notification" event.  Then when I change the .wav file assigned to "Notification," Outlook just won't play anything at all when receiving new mail.  It just flat refuses to use
    anything but the default .wav files.
    Has anyone run into this before?

    Hi,
    To change the new mail notification sound, please try the following:
    1. Right click the sound icon at the right bottom to open the sound settings.
    2. Under the
    Windows section, change both the Desktop Mail Notification and New Mail Notification
    events to have the same .wav file for the sound you want played for them.
    3. Then click OK to test the result.
    Thanks,

    When I am trying to perform timed Lumosity games and the new email notification window pops up over the window I'm working in, it's very disconcerting and bothersome. I'd like to disable this auto pop up, but can't find out how to do so.

    Uncheck the notification(s).

  • Can I change the email notification sound?

    I can't hear the email notification sound on my iPhone. Is there a way to customize it? I have it turned up as loud as it will go, but, if I'm out somewhere, and my phone is in the holster, I can't hear it!
    Any help would be appreciated!!
    Stephanie

    Hi Stephanie,
    The email sound options are in Settings> Sounds. There is no option to change the tone.
    You can leave iPhone feedback requesting a feature be modified here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

  • OS4: Can I change the incoming email notification sound???

    OS4: Can I change the incoming email notification sound???
    I installed OS4 but still cant seem to.
    HOW CAN I CHANGE MY INCOMING EMAIL ALERT SOUND???

    Apparantly Apple have yet to realize that people like to customize their handsets.
    I had an HP in 2001 and it had fully customized sounds.
    It also had the option of a calendar on the Wallpaper - one of the most important features of a business handset.
    OS4 on IPhone and yet the only way of someone getting these important features is to JB it. This is my 3rd Iphone and I won't be getting an IPhone 4, 5 or 6 until an OS update unlocks that wallpaper for a calendar.

    Is there any way to turn off new mail notification sound for a particular folder? I want new mail sound for my in box and most other folders but for example when I filter high-volume mail lists into a sub folder I don't want the new mail sound to play.

  • No email notification sound iOS 8

    I do not get a badge or sound for a new email on my charter,net acct. My exchange acct and yahoo acct all show a badge and a notification sound. The phone settings are identical on all accts. Charter says it's an apple problem and apple says its a charter problem. My wife has the same issue on her phone. This is all since ios8 update.
    Any help out there?

    @Meg St._Clair: Sincerely I don't like the Apple Mail app for using with gmail. I prefer using directly Google web app which keeps closer to my browser gmail experience (conversation view and coloring and threading). By the way, I noticed that Apple Mail app shows some differences in threading email conversations and it makes things messy to me (the same conversation shows different email counts in Apple Mail than in original Gmail interface, may be sometimes Apple Mail splits conversations that gmail keeps unified).

  • Cannot turn off new mail notification sound

    Hi,
    I've set all notifications for mail to be off under System Preferences > Notifications. As of right now I have Mail showing under "not in notification center" yet the "ding" sound continues to happen each time I get a new email. If someone could please tell me what I might be missing, or if this is a bug I would really aprpeciate it.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Can't turn off new email notifications. (iphone5)

    Randomly, I started getting pinged with every incoming email even though I have sounds for new email set to off.  Silent vs. non-silent doesn't make a difference. (iphone5)

    Check Settings > Notifications > Mail > [each and every email account you have] > New Mail Sound

  • Offlineimap "New Email" notification scripts

    I recently started using offlineimap/mutt to keep track of three email accounts. I wanted notifications when new email arrived so I tried some notification programs that worked with Maildir but didn't find any that I liked. So I came up with this script:
    #!/bin/sh
    MAILDIR1=$HOME/Email/maildir1/INBOX/new
    MAILDIR2=$HOME/Email/maildir2/INBOX/new
    MAILDIR3=$HOME/Email/maildir3/Inbox/new
    echo "Watching $MAILDIR1"
    while MAILNAME1=$(inotifywait -qe MOVED_TO --format '%f' $MAILDIR1)
    do
    echo $MAILNAME1
    mailpop $MAILDIR1/$MAILNAME1
    done&
    echo "Watching $MAILDIR2"
    while MAILNAME2=$(inotifywait -qe MOVED_TO --format '%f' $MAILDIR2)
    do
    echo $MAILNAME2
    mailpop $MAILDIR2/$MAILNAME2
    done&
    echo "Watching $MAILDIR3"
    while MAILNAME3=$(inotifywait -qe MOVED_TO --format '%f' $MAILDIR3)
    do
    echo $MAILNAME3
    mailpop $MAILDIR3/$MAILNAME3
    done
    I modified a script for procmail notifications I found here http://miek.nl/posts/2008/Jun/09/a-popu … rocmailrc/ for nicely formatted notifications and added two lines to speak the notification as well.
    mailpop
    #!/bin/bash
    # popup a small notification with 'notify-send'
    from=`formail -X From: < $1`
    sub=`formail -X Subject: < $1`
    # tweaks < > are special
    from=${from//</\(}
    from=${from//>/\)}
    from=${from//&/\.}
    sub=${sub//</\(}
    sub=${sub//>/\)}
    sub=${sub//&/\.}
    sub=${sub:0:200}
    from=${from:0:75}
    TM=2000
    /usr/bin/notify-send -u normal -t $TM "$from" "$sub"
    while pgrep speech2 > /dev/null; do sleep 1; done
    speech2 New Email ${from%(*}, With $sub, has arrived
    #echo "New Email $from, With $sub has arrived" | festival --tts
    At first I used festival for speech, but Google's voice sounded so much better. This script will speak up to 100 characters, just requires mplayer:
    speech2
    #!/bin/bash
    say() { local IFS=+;/usr/bin/mplayer -ao alsa -really-quiet -noconsolecontrols "http://translate.google.com/translate_tts?tl=en&q=$*"; }
    say $*
    For messages with longer subjects: http://danfountain.com/2013/03/raspberr … to-speech/
    Anyone else have a script/program they like for maildir notifications? Also I would be interested in making these work as a systemd user service.

    For any other i3 users, jasonwryan script works great with i3status and i3bar useing the example from i3status manual:
    i3status | while :
    do
    read line
    echo "Email: $(eml) | $line" || exit 1
    done
    Edit: This is better, works with colors:
    i3status | (read line && echo $line && read line && echo $line && while :
    do
    read line
    dat=$(eml)
    dat="[{ \"full_text\": \"Email: ${dat}\" },"
    echo "${line/[/$dat}" || exit 1
    done)

  • Unwanted 'New Email' notification on home screen

    Havin read some of the posts on this board concerning email notification messages, i went to
    menu-tools-settings-general-personalisation-homescreen-mode settings-homescreen applications-enabledapplications, and unticked both email1 and email2 notifications, and yet I still get the message every time I recieve an email on the mail for exchange.
    any suggestions?
    also it does seem pretty absurd the setttings are buried away in these menus to such an extent you have to look it up online to sort the navigation...

    I agree with you. The Nokia Messaging gives you the push mail, but the notification on the phone is poor. You have to open the Nokia Mail app on the 5800 to see the message. Without V30 if new mail arrives and you miss the beep there is no indication from the home screen of new mail.
    Even with V30 unfortunately you can only see the most recent email that has arrived on the home screen- and for some reason it still shows it as unopened once you've read it i.e. the closed envelope rather then opened.
    FYI- you can turn the email notification on the home screen off.
    I'm still amazed that there isn't a unified app that brings SMS, Mail, Chat etc all into the same window. So you only have to check in one place for incoming communication. Maybe there's a third party solution out there??
    Maybe one of the other Nokia phones has this, E72?

  • Email notification sound not playing

    I have 2 email accounts synced to my phone. One hotmail and one from my offices exchange server. I only get notification sounds from the hotmail account and not the other. I  need the notification to play for the outlook exchange account. I have notifications turned on and a sound selected. Why is it only playing for the hotmail account and not on the outlook exchange account? How can I fix this?

    Leave the one you have setup for your hotmail account alone since that one is already working for you. Go through the steps listed below for your outlook exchange account and see if these steps will work for you.
    1.From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located in the lower-left).
    2.Touch Mail.
    3.Touch Menu.
    4.Touch More.
    5.Touch Settings.
    6.Touch Notification Settings.
    7.Touch Email notifications.
    Email notifications are enabled if a green check mark is present.
    8.
    Touch the desired notification.
    Notifications are enabled if a green check mark is present.
