I compiled my kernel with this line:
    # make -s clean bzImage modules modules_install
    Any ideas?

    Ok, I fixed it.
When doing mkinitrd auto it would make an initrd image from the modules at /lib/modules/2.6.16-ARCH when it had to do it from /lib/modules/2.6.16.18-ARCH
    I fixed it with
    mkinitrd kernel_version=2.6.16.18-ARCH
Also my menu.lst was wrong, a new image was created under the name of
    initrd-2.6.16.18-ARCH.img.
My menu.lst pointed to initrd26.img. I didn't change it before because I didn't know, someone should update the wiki article about compiling the kernel from source.

    Hi
My MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion is logging the following Adobe error when booting. I don't know which program from Adobe it comes from. I have Flash and Photoshop installed.
It takes my Mac 11 seconds of boot time to generate this error every time I boot. I would like to get rid of the program causing it.

First, in System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Login items, look for anything Adobe in the list of items and remove it. Then your Mac will not attempt to load anything Adobe during boot-up or log-in anymore, but boot much faster again.
Then see if problems persist when starting your Adobe apps. If so, uninstall them completely (!!! - usually, there are files left over under Applications and in Application Support in the Libraries - remove those manually), then re-install these apps fresh.

Please tell me there is a fix that does not involve buying a computer clean sweep program.

    Hi brigitta2,
You might be getting the error message because of any of the following reasons:
.dll files are corrupt or missing
Attack of malware or other spyware
    Incorrect installation of applications
    Damaged Windows registry
Old Windows device drivers that need to be updated
The problem can be sorted if you know the exact reason behind the same. Please let me know the exact error message that appears on your screen.
If the issue is with damaged files then you might need to replace them or if it is a system issue, then please take your laptop to an expert who can deal with system issues.

Windows insists that its Partition Map be set up the Windows way. No exceptions. If you use anything other than BOOT CAMP (or Open Source REFIt) to do the partition setup, it will not work.
WARNING: If you allow Windows to Modify the partition Map directly, Windows will clobber Mac OS X so completely that will require a complete Mac OS X Re-Install. Windows in not a pleasant guest.

    Hi DRhatje.
Good Morning and I hope your well today. Thanks for your post.
I think thats a pretty good translation,  the error message I was thinking of can be found in the knowledgebase article below.
The suggested cause of the error is that the IMAQ.exe is set (by default) to start on startup. But if you don't have a framer grabber installed on the machine then you could well see this error. The solution is to remove the exe from the startup list on your system. The steps to do this is listed in the link below but in summary,
From the section in the screenshot you sent me you should be able to
select the "Selective Startup", then navigate to the "Startup" tab and
    uncheck the IMAQBoot.exe.
If this reverts back to the default
settings on restart, this is probably an indicator that your Admin
Rights on this PC are limited.
I think that a quick way to check
this is to go to Start>Run and type "regedit". This is essentially a
more advanced way to manipulate similar settings, but if you don't have
Admin Rights on the PC then you would most probably be denied access.
In any case though, please ask one of your IT colleagues to use their
passwords and change this setting. It will get rid of the warning you
are seeing until you start using our Vision Hardware and need to
    reactivate it.
Make sure you click on "Apply" before you exit this utility.
Why do I get "IMAQBoot.exe - Entry Point Not Found" error when I restart computer?
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/AD70B1036D5B950B8625752400578CFE?OpenDocument
This should at least remove the error message upon start up.
Please let me know how you get on and I hope this helps!

You may notice and are able to correct an issue in the /etc/fstab or your mounted root filesystem.
Equally your mounted /var/log/messages /var/log/boot or /var/log/dmesg may show something.
thanksBefore you execute chroot /mnt/sysimage these files are located at:
    /mnt/sysimage/etc/fstab
    /mnt/sysimage/var/log/messages
    /mnt/sysimage/var/log/boot
    /mnt/sysimage/var/log/dmesg
After you execute chroot /mnt/sysimage these files are located at:
    /etc/fstab
    /var/log/messages
    /var/log/boot
    /var/log/dmesg
The first file /etc/fstab is where which swap partitions are mounted at startup are defined, so if you say you are hanging creating swap partitions that is where to look.
The other files are log files, hopefully there is something informative particularly at the end of them

  • Error when booting off install disk: "panic: We are hanging here . . ."

My iBook's working fine except it's very slow (3 years old), so I decided to reinstall the OS.
When I try loading off my original OS X installation disk, it boots to an error "panic: We are hanging here . . ."
If I stick the install CD into the iBook while it's on, it reads the CD fine and even offers to reboot off the CD for me. But when I reboot, I get the same panic error.
When I take the CD out, the iBook loads fine again.
So my computer still works, but I can't figure out a way to reinstall. Any ideas?
fyi- I tried Disk Utility on my HD and it passed verification.

Call Apple Support. They may be able to send you a replacement disc at nominal cost (much less than new). I think you'll need your computer's serial number so they can get the correct one.
How does the computer handle other CDs? There's the slight possibility it is the drive and not the CD.
The other thing to do is to try and troubleshoot why your computer is slowing down and at least not to have to immediately worry about getting a new CD. Here's a bunch of reading. However, I wouldn't blindly go running a bunch of utilities but to address things one by one. For example, one major slow down is an over-full hard drive and no utility will help with that.

  • Getting an error when booting SATA on K7N2 Delta2

I just finished the Windows XP installation and everything is running great.  I have 2 issues:
    1. The processor is an Athlon XP 1700+ (1.4 Ghz), but the BIOS & Windows are seeing it as a 1.1 Ghz.
    2. I have to leave the CD-ROM as my first boot device with the Windows XP Pro CD in the drive and allow the message "Boot From CD" to run its course before it will boot from the SATA drive.  I have no idea why this is.  If I change the boot order or remove the Windows XP Pro CD from the CD-ROM, I get the message "NTLDR not found".
    Any idea????

To avoid this happening disconnect the PATA drive during the installation as indicated by Wonka above to ensure that Windows sees the SATA drive only and set the bios to boot from the SATA drive first after setup . Assuming the first HDD is 0 (PATA IDE1)  the SATA drive on IDE3 should be HDD-2. I have not seen the Delta2 as yet so don't know what the exact bios options are but provided you ensure that the SATA drive is the only active disk present on your system Windows should boot from it. To load the drivers for the SATA controller in Windows you need to install the Nvidia SW IDE driver included in the current unified driver package version 5.03 (MSI) or 4.27 (Nvidia).
Edit:- On the Abit NF7-S2G, which has the new south bridge hard disk, boot priority is set in Advanced BIOS Features. There is a setting for Hard Disk Boot Priority and you press enter to reach the sub screen. You can then change the boot order of the hard disks by paging up or down as appropriate. As soon as you get the order you require save and exit. Nforce2 boards tend to use reference bioses provided by Nvidia so the Delta2 may well be similar.
I have the same option to select Hard Disk Priority and have selected the SATA drive, but am still having the same problem.  I did install the drivers that came with the board.  Shouldn't that take care of the SATA controller driver?  I really don't want to reinstall the OS so I am hoping that someone knows a way to get around this.

  • Cluster Not Available error when booting OVM server DOM0 from USB

    Hi all,
I have been wanting to run OVM 2.2 from a USB stick for a while now. I ran through the install CD today and saw there was a 'minimal USB install' option on the installation screen. So I plugged in a 4GB USB stick, rebooted, and ran the USB install.
After a while, the install completed, OVM booted up perfectly it seemed, and I was happy.
The server had no local storage apart from this USB stick as we are going to be hooking it up to an iSCSI target for guest VM storage.
This was a new lab setup, so I got the VM Manager running on another system, connected to the USB booted OVM server, and went to create a pool.
Running the 'test connection' that worked fine.
Trying to add the pool - failed. I got the error 'Cluster Not Available'
On the OVM server I did a repos.py -l and nothing gets listed.
I understand that for HA you need a repository with shared storage. However, before I have used these same install CDs with a singe local hard disk, to get OVM server running, and it did so fine.
So what's different with the USB disk install that means you don't get a repository?
Do I have to create a special repository LUN, manually connect the OVM server to this, and then use repos.py to create it?
    Cheers,
    Jeff

Ok I have read, re-read related parts of the underground manual and have hit a brick wall with the 'simple' task of setting up a NIC for dedicated iSCSI traffic. The manual does not cover this task in the iSCSI SAN section.
    So I'm in a catch 22.
My OVM server boots up, with it's single management NIC configured, but once booted - I don't want to connect to the iSCSI target via this network - I need it completely closed off.
I want to use another NIC (or bond of two) for dedicated iSCSI traffic to and from the OVM Server.
However, the underground manual strangely only seems to cover a single NIC configuration! It looks like he assumes you are going to be running iSCSI on your management NIC, which I can only think is incredibly bad practice.
I have installed OVM with the linux asknetwork - this did not give me the option to configure additional interfaces.
I then manually edited /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 on the OVMServer, restarted network, restarted the entire box - I can ping my new NIC / IP locally from within the OVM server, but I can not connect to the iSCSI target, nor can I ping the iSCSI NIC on the OVM server from the target.
This is such a simple thing to try to achieve - super frustrating...

There is a great chance you might need service for that computer. Take a look at the link below and it tells you what the beeps actually mean. Two beeps and a blank screen after your cat knocked over the laptop onto the ground my guess is the system board that might be broken.

  • [Solved]Syslinux "booting... boot error" when booting Windows 7

Hello, I've set up my computer to dual boot windows and arch. Windows is on a separate hard drive and I was able to configure syslinux with a boot menu allowing me to select Windows at startup. For a long time this has worked without any problems whatsoever, but this morning I tried selecting windows and I got what is probably the most vague error message I have ever seen.
    "Booting...
    Boot Error"
According to this post this problem comes in when the ldsyslinux.sys file cannot be found. Unfortunately I was not able to use his suggested fix
    syslinux -U /dev/sdb1
I wasn't aware that there was a -U flag for syslinux and after checking it seems that there isn't one.

Sorry, I actually just fixed it on my own, it turns out my BIOS settings were a bit... weird. For some reason I didn't have my windows drive listed and it tried to boot a USB drive I had plugged into my computer. I just had to fix the drive order and it worked fine. Sorry about starting a fairly useless discussion.

  • Error when boot for install from CDs

    Hi.
I have Solaris10 distribution on CDs and when I boot from CD and check type of install, I get a error:
WARNING: consconfig: could not find driver for screen device /pci@0,0/pci8086,24,4e@1e/pci8086,1879@c
Can't find driver for console framebufferI have motherboard: Intel Server Board SE7520JR2
Somebody, please, help me with my trouble :((

Have you tried re-transferring them from the computer where they are mounting?
    You might try this, too:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
