New event appears on launch

Every time I launch iCal, an empty event appears on my calendar with a start time that is the same as the time that I launched iCal. There's no info in the information pane other than the start and end times (which are the same as each as and the same as the time I launched iCal. I can't find anything in the Preferences, the discussions, or in iCal help. Any ideas? Thanks.

A brief clarification: I'm referring to the new and "improved" version of Apple OS Photo file management, AKA "Photos."
Regardless it still crashes on launch.

How to make New Events appear at TOP of page, not Bottom?

When I import photos, they are automatically put into a new Event. That's great. But that Event appears way at the bottom of my long events list, even though my Events are shown chronologically with the most recent events right at the top. I have to drag the new event all the way through dozens of older events in order to bring it up to the top, where I can figure out which other event folders those new images might belong (ex: "family photos, Fall 2008").
This isn't the biggest problem in the world, but I'd love to know how to set iPhoto to create the new event at the top of the list instead of the bottom. Any help? Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. In the View->Sort menu select Descending. However that will also have the photos in the Photos mode be sorted descending. In the Event mode you can sort the events in one direction and the photos in those events in the other. In the Photos mode both the Events and photos are sorted the same direction.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Calendar new event appear twice in the week view

Sun Java(tm) System Calendar Server 6.3-20.01 (built Oct 23 2009).
Sun Java(TM) System Communications Express 6.3 update 1 , with patch
I create an event within the calendar server week view an the event appear duplicated in this view. The the same event can be viewed within the month, events and day view as one. This is happening within the UWC interface. Is this a bug? does someone has seen this before?

Just the other day I try to put an event into icalendar but it won't appear on screen. When I go to my iPad and iPhone the "New Event" appears on these but I can't see where to add info on my MacBook Pro. Can anyone help?

Just this week I am unable to see info I am trying to add to my iCalendar. But when I look at my iPad and iPhone the "New Evnt" appears. Because it doesn't look like there is anything on my MacBook Pro can't enter appointments. Any help is appreciated.

This can be caused by a number of issues.
Was everything working and then suddenly stopped??
Or is this a new clean setup and has never worked.
Do you have a cable modem which is not a router and the TC setup in bridge? That will cause it. The TC must be in router mode, ie dhcp and nat.
Check the IP the MBP gets including dns and gateway..
Then check the ipad/iphone.. post what IP dns and gateway (router in applespeak) they get.

Why do new events appear at the top of my library?

In older version of iPhoto, when you imported photos, it would make a new event at the bottom of your library where I wanted it to be
In the new version, when importing it places new events right at the top of my library, meaning I have to go all the way up to the top and drag them back down to the bottom
How can i get it so new events are placed at the bottom of the events window when imported like in old versions?

There are so many instances of what Andy describes and so many responses like yours - "Take what comes!" What sort of an approach is that?
The point is that you are wrong to say that if you are on Manual, you should just put up with it. The previous version placed the new Event in perfect (end) position - so clearly this is an Apple oversight during revision. It doesn't even place the newcomer at the very top - always second from left.
I have already placed feedback, as have countless others, but surely this site is for talking it over with one's peers?
I just didn't want Andy to get the door shut in his face by your response.

HT5548 I upgraded one of my programs and now the old and new both appear on launch pad, and I can't delete the old one. Is there a way I can do that?

I upgraded one of my programs and now the icons for both old and new appear on the launch pad. I don't need or want the old version to display, as it's been imported into the new one. I can't seem to figure out how to edit it off the launch pad.

More then likely, the old version was installed independently from the App Store. The article below goes over the process for removing these application.

New ' events ' appeared suddenly ?

Hi All, suddenly, out of the blue, I find a load of new [ very old ? ] events in my Iphoto. '08 version 7.1.5. Things like dinput, images, htmltour, img,web,blurbs,windows etc. Most blurry pics of rubbish. Signs, unknown shapes, some things dated 2002. How do I get rid of the lot? At the same time I find I cannot empty my trash which has 1 item in it. Message is 'trash is being emptied' I have an icon stuck on the desktop,just appeared, ' kages.db is in use' ? Thanks, Duncan

This has been known to happen with 08 - for some reason it drags in all the icons and other support files it can find.
To remove material from iPhoto: Put them in the *iPhoto trash* and empty it.

Synchronize my ipad (ipad1) with iTunes (10.7) new events appears

now, when I synchronize my ipad (ipad1) with iTunes (10.7) in my mac (mountain lion) I have some events that I haven´t in iphoto , normally with few photos thatit´s also in the correct event, and the name of the event is a date but repeated many times
Furthermore, the main photo of some events seems to be pixeld but i could see it whe i go into de event.
it never hapens to me before. I try to maintain the library, repair the database and all other tips.

Followed both articles. The second one, I did not have the file: "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist~orig
I then tried the first article and now the iPad will charge when plugged in, iTunes still does not recognize it.

Cannot enter new events in ical on imac using 10.7.5

Should be able to click and new event appears but this in not happening - nothing appears in ical on the imac but on my ipad and iphone there is an new event which is empty - I think I need to re-install the ical but cannot find the instructions to do this in 10.7.5

Unable to create new events in iCal

I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS7, and now when I try to create a new event in iCal, nothing happens. I am able to tap the "+" and enter the event information, but when I tap "Done", no new event appears in the calendar.
If I, instead, create the event in the Calendar on my PC, the phone syncs with Outlook, and the event appears on the phone's iCal app.
Why am I suddenly unable to create new events on my phone in iOS7, and how can I fix this issue?

Why can't I see the imported video if the event appears in my event library

I have imported a single video file from my hard drive containing a rugby game (1,4 GB). A window appears in IMovie indicating that it is importing the video and that it will be over in x minutes. Then, the new event appears in the the event library but no video appears. I have selected the all clips option, so it is not a matter of having made that mistake. I have opened the finder and the clip appears there within the imovie files, but I have not been able to edit it. PLEASE HELP.

New events not loading chronologically

When I upload a set of photos to iPhoto 11 the new event is no longer placed chronologically. Usually the new event appears as the last in the list of existing events, but for my 3 most recent sets of pics the events have been created at the beginning of the list of (along with pics from 2005!). Can't think that I've changed anything, same camera, and date on camera is correct. Any ideas?

I sugggest you try my application, Dates to iCal. It is shareware with a 2 week trial period.
Dates to iCal 2 is a replacement for Apple's birthday calendar for iCal. It has a range of features to allow the user to choose what, and what not, to sync to iCal from Address Book.
As well as automatically syncing birthday dates from Address Book, Dates to iCal 2 can sync anniversary and custom dates. It can set up to five alarms for each date in iCal and can also set different alarms for birthdays and anniversaries. It allows the option of only syncing from one Address Book group. This application also allows for the titles of the events sent to iCal to be modified to the user's preference.

How do I get new events to appear in Photo on my iPad?

I have been uploading photos to my iPhoto on my Mac and these are gradually appearing in my photostream on both my Mac and on my iPad. In iPhoto they are all arranged into Events but no new events are being created on my iPad, I'm just getting the photos gradually appearing through Photostream. Having said that, I'm not so sure that the most recent photos from the past week or so are even being uploaded into Photostream unless this takes days to do.
Both are on Wifi, Everything is turned on for iCloud on both devices and both are using the same account. If I look at the Photostream page in iPhoto it says "Uploading 70 photos to Photostream" at the top but it's said this for ages and doesn't seem to change.
Can anyone help me please?

I have this same problem. On the photo tab I used to have it checked for everything to sync. But it gets stuck on syncing the photos and doesnt complete. The events on my Mac stopped syncing to other devices as soon as I got a new ipad air. The events that were on iphoto at that time are the last to show on all other devices. When I am in photo tab i cant even select the events that havent synced because they are showing as a choice. But they are an event in iphoto on the Mac. Frustrated.

New Events are appearing from Flickr Albums

New Events are being created from the pictures that are located in some (but not all) of my flickr synced albums. The flickr albums then are synced with the photos in these events. So I can't just delete the event as it then deletes all of the photos that are synced. Any help would be great in resolving the issue. My current idea is that I will just stop syncing with flickr but I really enjoy the feature.

Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
