New Event Default: 12AM

Hello! I was wondering if there was a way to change the default start time for a new event? For some reason it seems only recent my default time has been 12AM. I wasn't sure if this had to do with MobileMe, but I checked and there is not an obvious option there either. I have the "Start" of my day set to 8am, I would think if I were to schedule something it would default to that.

juliefit,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The default start time is not user selectable, but it should not be 12AM. Default start time should be the next hour closest to the current time, i.e. if the current time is between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM the default time should be 3:00 PM.
If your system is not working that way you may want to try refreshing the iCal plist file. You will find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Quit iCal, drag the com.apple.iCal.plist file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check iCal for normal behavior.
You may also want to check System Preferences...>Language & Text>Formats>and Set/Reset your "Region:"

  • New event - default times

    In month view when I double click on a day to create a new event the timings default to 2300 until 0000. I can't find any way to change these timings - can anyone help?

    Hi Paul, I have the same (or similar) problem.
    If I doubleclick to create an event in month view, depending on the current time of day, iCal will automatically create a time within the current 12-hour time period. If I then try to change the time with that annoying bubble (what ever happened to the beautiful sidebar), it will only allow changes within that current period. I.e. an event created at 10:00 can not be changed to 14:00. Entering "14" would result in the time being set to "04" in the morning. If I wait until after noon, then the times can be changed for the time period from noon to midnight only. This is really annoying. As a workaround, I can open the created event in day view and drag the event to the desired time. But this is not what I expect from Apple as useability.
    Anyone has similar experiences to Paul and me?

  • Change "new event" default name in FinalCut x

    This Question is regading Final Cut Pro x (version 231027) or any of the X versions.
    Hello, this might be a minor issue but still annoying. Regading create "new event": Here in Scandinavia for ex. we seldom use the "month-day-year" set up to describe the dates, would it possible to change that behaviour to ex. "year-month-day" or any other custom tag with dates? It´s not much to ask for..

    Hey imagoproduktion
    Change it in System Preferences in Language & Text in the Region tab; from there it should trickle down to the apps to give the right format for you.

  • New event default settings

    this has to be an easy one ---
    why does a new calendar event start on the :15 of the hour? this always happens when i create an event on the calendar....any way to change that? if not, i'd love to hear the rationale behind that decision!
    M

    Greetings,
    How are you creating the event? By double clicking or dragging? If you're dragging you might just be off a bit on where you're starting. If you're double clicking you could be just below the line for the hour, which will then go to the next quarter hour.

  • How do i create a new event in a different time zone in iCal ios7?

    New update seems to have made this disappear in iphone.
    I'm also looking for same solution on MacBook Pro

    Several settings in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars affect Calendar and your calendar accounts. These include:
    Syncing of past events (future events are always synced)
    Alert tone played for new meeting invitations
    Default calendar for new events
    Default time for alerts
    Calendar time zone support, to show dates and times using a different time zone

  • How do I change: when I double click on a day to add a new event it defaults to All Day and Busy

    iCal 5.0.2 (1571) Is there any way to change this? I can't do it in preferences.
    This is a real pain. To make an event for a specific time I have to double click again, uncheck "All Day" and then put in the time for the start of the event. Even then, if I put in the start time, the end time remains at 6:30 PM, so I have to change that too.
    If I really do want an All Day event, why does it sometimes default to Busy, rather than always to Free?
    The old iCal was far superior in this regard; double click once on a day and the add an event dialogue box appears, defaulting to a time close to when you were making the event, and, if my memory serves correct observing the preference I set with respect to default length of the event.
    I'm aware that Command N gets me a new Quick Event, its a bit better in that if the event i enter opens the big "add an event dialogue box", it has defaulted to an hour long event. But, if I click on a day, and then hit Command N, the new event is put in Today, and not the day I had selected. It also defaults to All Day, unless I put in a time for the event in the Quick Event box.  Why would I do that when I know I want to enter info into a number of fields, and doing so is easiest from the big dialogue box. If i don't enter a time in Quick Event, or enter a day, I still have to double click the event that was created by Quick Event to open the big dialogue box, and start fresh entering everything.  So, I find Quick Event's implimentation cumbersome, overall ending up with more keystrokes and clicks to enter the details I normally enter, than the old iCal.
    So, if someone knows how to change the double click behaviour back to the old way, or how to get Quick Event to open the dialogue box on the day i have already selected, any help will be appreciated.
    Also, is there some way to get this feedback to Apple? Support SiteMap doesn't show a link for feedback.
    Thanks
    Ian

    I have sort of the exact same problem. Extremely far away from user friendly
    I have an second issue as well: When I hook off all-day it comes up with an 8 hour event!
    And then if I put in a late start hour it pushes end time to next day due to the 8 hour event suggestion.
    All in all this gives a lot of changes just to enter an event.
    Command N
    I learnt from your input to use this fuction. At least that comes up with a one hour event as default.

  • ICal Lion is infuriating. How can I add a new event in a chosen calendar without having to create it in my default then edit it?

    iCal Lion is infuriating. How can I add a new event in a chosen calendar without having to create it in my default then edit it?

    We are all entitled to our own opinions. So I respect you there brother
    But then again, Apple has its own basis. iOS is what's selling like pancakes not Macs, so if the gazillions out there are using iOS device and have gotten used to the calendar in their iOS devices. Wouldn't you think it made sense if Lion has the same calendar look and feel?
    Everything was considered and weighthed when they developed Lion. They even mentioned it in the press, They were blown away with the success of iOS so they are extending it to OSX.
    Quite frankly, I like the old iCal but yeah I don't expect anything in SL to stay in Lion otherwise it'll be another Cat name related to Leopard
    People should start looking at this perspective and not get STUCK in the old OS.

  • How can I make new iCal events default to 1 hour long?

    Please help me love my iCal again.  How can I set it up so that the default for a new event is an hour long instead of EIGHT?!?  Why on earth does iCal think a new event should be eight hours long?  It's especially annoying at night.  Add a new event at 9PM and iCal sets an end for 5AM and rolls it into the next day, which means I have to change the end time and change the end date every time I add a new event.
    Seriously, who designed this thing?  Here's a perfect example of bad design (which, coming from Apple is shocking!): In the menu, click New Event.  Does iCal create a new event?  No.  It draws a box arrow pointing to the big plus sign.  Are we sure Microsoft didn't design this thing?
    I'm a diehard Mac Guy for over 17 years.  But I must say, I'm disappointed with some aspects of Lion.  Yikes.  (sorry...  I needed to vent!)

    I probably should have noted that I'm using iCal in the month view.  Maybe that's why my iCal thinks every new event is eight hours long?  The previous iCal didn't behave this way.
    And, yes, a menu item titled New Event that opens a box where I can create a new event rather than actually creating a New Event is bad design.  It adds extra steps.  It feels like a Microsoft thing where you click on something and then get asked if that's really what you wanted to do.  When I click New Event, I want a new event to open so I can input the details including calenrar, alarm, repeating data, notes, etc.  Sure, if I wanted a quick option, I'd go for the + sign to add one.  But when it comes to having to change calendars or add extra info, making me go through extra steps is poor design.
    There's a lot to like in the new iCal, but pushing the app away from design simplicity for VISUAL simplicity is poor design for a desktop OS app.  On a three inch screen like the iPhone, it makes perfect sense.  It's brilliant, in fact.  But on a desktop OS?  I completely understand the idea of merging iOS with OS X, but a motorcycle is not a tractor trailer even though they both have engines.  To treat them as such is poor design.
    Another example: in iCal, it's easy to hide calendars you may not need to see.  That's a great feature.  In the previous iCal, there was a pane that showed which calendars were visible and which were not.  Now, if you're looking at a month, you have no way of seeing that there may also be more events that are hidden without clicking the calendars for a popup to display which are visible and which are not.  I'm no Mac basher.  I have a series of the black & white "Think Different" prints framed and hanging on my walls.  I love Apple, but the new iCal is poor design.

  • How to set a default start and/or end date for New Events based on trigger date.

    I'm using the CalendarActivityListener to get current row when clicking on an existing event. As per previous posts this listener gives you access to event detail including Start Date, End Date, etc.
    However, what I want to do is to default the start (and end) dates for New Events based on the trigger date.
    I've tried the CalendarListener and can grab the Trigger Date from it - however, I can't see a way to pass this directly to the popup/dialog I'm using to create the new event.
    At present I'm putting the TriggerDate into the ADFContext session scope e.g. ADFContext.getCurrent().getSessionScope().put("TriggerDate",calendarEvent.getTriggerDate());
    Then, I've tried multiple approaches to try and "get" the TriggerDate from session scope to drop it into my new Calendar Event basically, I'm trying to default the InputField(s) associated with the Start Date using the value from the session - I've tried
    1. setting the default value for the InputField in the jspx using a binding expression i.e. value="#{sessionScope.TriggerDate}" - this actually sets the value appropriately when the jspx is rendered but, when I go to create I get a NPE and I can't debug. I assumed that it might be a Date type issue - it would appear that CalendarListener provides a date of type java.util.Date and that the StartDate attribute of my VO/EO/table is a DATE and therefore requires oracle.jbo.domain.Date so I tried casting it - to no effect
    2. Using a Groovy expression *(StartDate==null?adf.context.sessionScope.TriggerDate:StartDate)* in my calendar's EventVO to default the Start Date to the same result
    Any thoughts or ideas?

    John,
    Thanks for that suggestion - could not get it to work. However, I did manage a different approach. I finally determined the sequence of events in terms of how the various events and listeners fire (I think).
    Basically, the CalendarActivityListener fires, followed by the listener associated with the Calendar object's Create facet, followed finally by the CalendarEventListener - the final is where the TriggerEvent is available and then finally, control is passed to the popup/dialog in the Create facet. So, my approach of trying to set/get the TriggerDate in the user's HTTP session was doomed to failure because it was being get before it had been set :(
    Anyway, I ended up adding a bit of code to the CalendarEvent listener - it grabs the current BindingContext, navigates through the DCBindingContainer to derive an Iterator for the ViewObject which drives the calendar and then grabs the currently active row. I then do a few tests to make sure we're working with a "new" row because I don't want to alter start & end dates associated with an existing calendar entry and then I define the Start and End dates to be the Trigger Date.
    Works just fine. Snippet from the listener follows
    BindingContext bindingContext = BindingContext.getCurrent();+
    *if ( bindingContext != null )    {*+
    DCBindingContainer dcBindings = (DCBindingContainer) bindingContext.getCurrentBindingsEntry();+
    DCIteratorBinding iterator = dcBindings.findIteratorBinding("EventsView1Iterator");+
    Row currentRow = iterator.getCurrentRow();+
    if ( currentRow.getAttribute("StartDate") == null)+
    currentRow.setAttribute("StartDate", calendarEvent.getTriggerDate());+
    if (currentRow.getAttribute("EndDate")==null)+
    currentRow.setAttribute("EndDate", calendarEvent.getTriggerDate());+

  • Can I choose the default calendar for new events?

    I have multiple calendars in iCal. When I create a new event on the iPod, it always defaults to the same calendar, but it's a less frequently used calendar so that's rarely the one I want. Is there a way to set the default calendar to my most frequently used calendar so I'm not having to change to a different one on a regular basis?

    On the iPod you can select the default calender: Settings>Mail..>Calenders (Scroll to bottom of the Mail... screen).

  • How do I get iCal to stop defaulting new events to all day?

    Just updated to Lion.   Overall everything is working well.  However, I can't stand some of the things the new iCal is doing.
    By default it is defaulting new events to all-day (Rather than setting a time like it did before).  Is there anyway to change this back?

    This was discussed endlessly right after Lion came out.
    Short answer: I don't think you can change this behavior in month view.
    However: When you type an event, e.g., "Meet with TIm Cook for lunch, 1 pm", iCal is smart enough to set the time (at 1 pm in this example).

  • Default time for new event is always 15 min b4...

    I think Ical is great and i use it daily to help me with my biz to stay on top of calls i need to make.
    I am constantly adding new events and i always want my new events to open with a default time of "0" rather than "15 minutes before". It is very tedious to constantly have to change this every time I make a new event.
    I also would hope to do the same thing with the alarm default feature so that I can change the default setting from "none" to "open file" since I always set alarms on all my new events this way. I am sure other ppl have the same problem if this ical a lot and would love to know how to tweak this or fix this in an update.
    Apple if there is (or isn't) a way to fix this then plz tell me so instead of ignoring this post as I noticed a similar post someone else made has been ignored,
    TY
    ERIC

    Bump. I'd like to know this as well. I don't see a preference for this in com.apple.iCal.plist
    9AM every day would be perfect as a default

  • How can you change the default setting for the alarm for new events?

    When I create a new Event, it will create an alarm that will activate 15 minutes before the event. I'd like to change the settings so the default setting would be that when I create a new event it will activate 1 day before the actual event. Is it possible to change this? Thanks.

    Greetings, David.
    alarm...activate 1 day before the actual event. Is it possible to change this?
    Sure.
    _Go to iCal > Preferences > General >"Add a default alarm to all new events and invitations"
    _Change the current value from 15 minutes to whatever minute value you like (1440 for 24 hours).
    _Of course this will only affect NEW events. Not those already created.
    _Close the window and your done.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can I change the Lion iCal Monthly View "New Event" from All Day?" Default?

    I have tried all the posted suggestions to change the iCal "new event" preferably in Monthly View from the default of "All Day" but to no avail. This is a current issue so old terminal changes do not seem to work. Anyone have the same issue?

    I also have an issue  with not being able to change  "end times". Four instance if I schedule an event at 9:00 AM iCal defaults to 10:00 AM. I'll click the end time to change it to 4:00 PM  and the time will not change. It defaults back to the same start time or one hour later. I can get the drop down list to appear, but the options are not enough to schedule anything over 3 hours.
    Nor can  change the "add day" default.
    I appreciate any advice/assistance you guys have.
    Thanks!
