New face back again to Oracle
Just wanted to let you all know that I found out the other day that John Bennett was back at Oracle. John was in the Oracle Spatial group a number of years ago before he left to help found TransDecisions which was a start-up company that worked on putting LRS into Oracle Spatial (before it became available in Spatial) and on route optimization and fleet scheduling solutions. Yesterday it was announced that TransDecisions routing/scheduling software had been acquired by Servigistics.
Being an ex-TransDecisions person who went to Bentley Systems when they purchased the LRS engine and DOT customers from TransDecisions back a few years ago I am glad to see John back at Oracle. Never hurts to have a good person back at Oracle who knows Oracle Spatial and what it can do.

The Firefox Page Zoom feature does a domain by domain level of saving the users preferred zoom level settings, there is no default Page Zoom level setting in Firefox.

most of my pics works fine have added a missing face no problem
but some (and there seems to be no theme to them you can clearly see the face) wont accept the faceOS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially. Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do. Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Then you need to re-n=install iPhoto
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applcations Folder to the trash)
2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only...’

iPhoto has detected faces of people I dont know, in my 'iPhoto faces' whenever I click the cross in the corner of the face (when sorting faces) the face temporarily disappears, but once I have uploaded a fresh batch of photos (and want to identify new faces) it automatically re-identifies the old photos that I don't want to have to sort again. How can I stop iPhoto from reidentifying faces I have already 'crossed', while still being able to identify and sort new faces.
Thank you, that makes sense (I think!) However, I need to be able to tell iPhoto who the people identified in my photos are, does that make sense? How do I identify the people in my new photos without clicking 'find faces'. I know that button searches through my photos to find faces, but it also gets me to the place where I identify the faces as my friends and family, is there a shortcut to get to that place without clicking 'find faces'? That is what I really need, please help!!

BT Infinity Dartford pushed back AGAIN!
So this is my first time posting on the forum, but i feel i need to say this because its starting to get stupid. Back in June 2010 BT said i was going to be able to get BT Infinity 1 (40MB down | 2MB up). Well that never happened and the dates have been pushed back again to September 30th 2014 .
The only reason we switched to BT was to get Fibre Optic broadband as soon as it was available. That day never came and we are really starting to get fed up with the dates being pushed back, its almost been 4 years since BT first announced our cabinet was going to be upgraded but as of now it has not.
Our current connection is 1.9 Mbps down and 0.3 Mbps, and is not enough when two people are trying to play games on steam and the other two are watching YouTube videos. It is just such a pain that the fibre dates come and go as if no one is actually doing anything about it.
Even if my cabinet is not going to be upgraded anytime soon i would at least like an answer to the reasons why, according to openreach "We are in ongoing discussion with the relevant authority about the location of this cabinet." They have not said anything else apart from that for the past 2 years, no new information has been given.
What makes it worse, there is someone less then 100 ft from my house with a BT Infinity connection.
Is there anyone who can give me a bit more information that Openreach are giving me?
I am currently connected to cabinet P13 which is linked to the Dartford exchange.

I have Yahoo mail provider but just lost my folders in Mac Mail program. The folders were not "On my Mac" but on "Yahoo". How do I get them back again? I have reinstalled MacMail as everything had disappeared. The new install has given me everything except the Yahoo folders. When I looked one of the folders had reappeared, but now it has gone again. I am using Yosemite.
Desperate to find those folders with so much data involved.Thanks for that babowa. If I add my Yahoo account it just goes straight to MacMail and says I already have an account. There seems to be no basic problem with mails going between Macmail and Yahoo. It is just the folders that have disappeared, while MacMail was out of action. I don't think those particular folders were ever on the Yahoo mail that I access through BT, they were just on the MacMail under "Yahoo" as opposed to "On my Mac". I am worried in case I lose what I already have if I press "Restore" from my back up. As you can see, I am not exactly good at this!

Photoshop CS6 is not responding when leaving PS and coming back again
A weired problem: My new installation of Photoshop CS6 (OS X Mavericks on a new MBP) is not responding when leaving PS and coming back again.
Example: i open a new file in PS - then i click on the desktop - when i go back to PS again, it is not responding to any click on any window (except for the menu bar).
I can solve the problem when i try going back several times or when i go back to PS via the icon in the dock.
But it is still very annoying in a quick workflow.
I would appreciate any idea what i can check more, cause i tried everything and i can’t find this issue on the web…
Thanks…Problem solved… The troublemaker was the Trackball Works Driver for Kensington trackballs / Expert Mouses…
I’m now using a generic driver for USB devices and everything is fine. -
Putting music & playlists back again
Hi folks,
I'm just about to run iVolume on my iTunes library in order to normalise the volume of the music I have. It doesn't work on the iPod files, but interfaces with the iTunes library itself. So, I will have to rip out the music and playlists on my iPod, only to drag and drop them back again (I manually manage syncing my music). That way, the music on my iPod will playback at the new normalised volume.
So, rather than try to commit it to memory (or indeed print reams of paper) before selecting around 5GB of eclectic choice and dragging and dropping it back (over USB 1.1!), can anybody suggest an easier way please?

Error partitioning a new Seagate Back-up Plus
I just tried to install a new Seagate Back-up Plus external drive (Mac & Windows version) and when I plugged it in, it was showing a single read-only partition containing the Seagate Dashboard software, and I couldn't rename the drive.
I went into Disk Utility.
The first heading for the drive said 1TB Seagate Backup+ BK Media
The indented subheading for the drive was Seagate Backup Plus
I clicked the subhead for the drive, hit Options, and used Most Secure erase (probably a stupid move), and then clicked erase, thinking it would get rid of the Seagate software - which I don't want to use anyway, as I want to use the drive for project back-ups and media storage - and reformat the drive.
Then when I went back in, and tried to re-establish a single partition, I got this Error Message: MediaKit reports driver bundle not found.
And nothing happened. I thought I'd try to initialize the drive. But I'm getting nowhere.
When I plug in the drive now, I get a message saying the disk is unreadable, and offering the option of initializing the disk.
When I click Initialize, I get back into the disk utility, but there's no Initialize option, and both Erase and Partition give me the same Error Message as before.
The drive was originally set up with Master Boot Record, and I think I should probably use GUID Partition Table. But if I occasionally need to access files on the drive, should I use Master Boot Record?
How can I make this drive usable again?

There are several options to subsequently import them to your Windows PC but the options depend on the number and size of photos you need to import:
Email them, but all email servers have file attachment limitations so you may not be able to send more than a few at a time. Beware that AOL was known to detect and change photo resolutions while emailing them through AOL. I don't know if they still do that.
Copy them to a USB flash drive
Use Dropbox or other file hosting service - Dropbox has size limitations though.
Enable file sharing on your Mac and your PC and transfer them over a network

Trying to delete a calendar but iCloud syncs it back again
Hi,
I am trying to delete some calendars on My Mac. I have actually moved all the events into a new calendar by exporting the original calendar and then importing them into the new calndar. Now I want to delete the old ones. So I delete them from the left hand menu, but after they have been removed iCloud is syncing them back again.
Does anyone have a solution?

How do I copy old Time Machine back-up data onto my new (second) back up drive?
I recently bought a second back-up drive for use with my MacBook Pro (running 10.9.4).
I'm successfully backing up my computer to both drives on a regular basis using Time Machine. (a Seagate drive and a Western Digital drive respectively)
I was wondering if there's an easy way to add the old back-up files from the old drive to the new drive as well. That is to say, I wish I had all the data that precedes my new back-up drive on BOTH drives. There's plenty of space on the new drive.
Again, I'm already running Time Machine successfully to both drives, is it perhaps as easy as connecting both drives to my computer and copying the older dated back-up files over to the newer drive within the Backups.backupdb folder for my profile?
Thanks for any help!Although the documentation says you can copy Time Machine backups in the Finder, it's very slow and sometimes doesn't work at all.
This technique will only work if the volume you're copying to is the same size, or larger than, the one you're copying from.
First, open the Time Machine preference pane and click the Options button. You may have to unlock the settings first by clicking the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window. Authenticate as an administrator.
Delete the volume you're going to copy from the list of backup destinations. Then turn Time Machine OFF.
Launch Disk Utility, open the built-in help, and search for the term "Duplicate." Follow the instructions. All existing data on the destination volume will be erased.
If the volume you're copying was encrypted by Time Machine, you may have to unlock it first. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar of the Disk Utility window.
Turn Time Machine back ON and select the new volume as a backup destination. You can also continue to use the old volume, if you wish. The two will be alternated when both are available.
CAUTION: If the volume you're copying is corrupt, as shown by Repair Disk or Verify Disk in Disk Utility, then that corruption will be copied to the new drive. Don't copy data from a corrupt volume on a malfunctioning drive. Put the drive aside and don't use it until you're sure you'll no longer need the data. Then securely erase it and take it to a recycling center. Do the same if the Restore operation fails with "disk errors." -

Once you've deleted a back up you cannot recover it, but you can start a new one. -

while WLS is running and let the connection pool refresh automatically or by invoking
RESET_POOL?
Are connections to Oracle handled by the Oracle shutdown? or are there implications
with WLS loosing a connection mid-transaction?If you need to keep WLS up and running during the backup, you can set the connection pool
to test the connection on reserve. This way the connection will only be given to the
client app code if it is good. I'm not sure if the connections to the DB actually get
corrupted. It depends on the Oracle backup process. Does the backup process kill all
connections? If so, the 'test conns on reserve' will cure it.
