New Yourk Times iPad App

The New York Times app in the App store is not the app demoed at the iPad intro. The intro app had the full times with the crossword puzzle embedded and one subscribed to it. It was to debut on April 3. However, the one available is called the "Editors Edition." Does any one know what's going on?

4.3.3 new feature, re-download apps help

Ok. I have Ipod touch 4g 8gb. Just downloaded 4.3.3. Cool new feautures and all BUT, one new feature, the ability to re-download all ready purchased apps on the ipod's app store isnt working. I go onto the apps store on my ipod, go on updates, press purchased, click on the app and then when i hit the litte blue button that says install, nothing happens. Help?
P.S My ipod is not synced to an itunes library. Is this a problem? It is NOT jailbroken either

i have no clue but i just pressed the erase all button in the ipod and now min wont work. just to say it was jailbroken. after i while i got the computer to reconize it but now the new software downloads all the way but doesnt finish at the end it says 653.3mb/653.3mb then error please help me!!!!

The curtain has been pulled back on iPhone 4, and the list of new features is massive: There's multitasking (finally!), a refreshed interface, and literally hundreds of other changes, all coming this summer. Here's the rundown.
The new OS will ship in June (Fall for iPad, and a developer preview is available today, so we can expect to have plenty of apps updated and ready for launch.
New Features: Multitasking, App Folders and More
iPhone OS 4.0: The Best New Features
• Multitasking: It's here, finally. It's handled with a simple task switcher: double click your home button, and you get a list of running apps. Select, switch, done. Multitasking is limited to audio streaming, VoIP and GPS apps, as well as a few other allowances: they can finish specific, important tasks in the background, for example. As far as non-music/nav/VoIP apps, those can be suspended in the background, but not left running. (See below.) Full details here.
• Fast app switching: With iPhone 4's multitasking, most apps aren't actually running in the background—just certain functions of the app, like an audio stream or a GPS lock. But! All apps can now be frozen, in full, so that when you reopen them, they're restored to exactly the state they were in when they were closed.
• Local notifications: Notifications can be sent between apps on the phone, not just from remote servers. In other words, if something important happens in an app you've opened and moved away from, a notification will pop up in whatever app you're using at the time, effectively saying "switch back to me!" It's a fairly clever way to keep track of multiple apps without the need for a start bar or dock-type interface. From Apple's dev guidelines:
The advantage of local notifications is that they are independent of your application. Once a notification is scheduled, the system manages the delivery of it. Your application does not even have to be running when the notification is delivered.
Apple's official line:
iPhone OS 4's new multitasking offers users a new way to quickly move between apps, and provides developers seven new multitasking services to easily add multitasking features to their apps. These services include background audio, so apps like Pandora can play music in the background, and VoIP, so VoIP apps can receive a VoIP call even when the iPhone is asleep or the user is running other apps. iPhone OS 4 provides multitasking to third party apps while preserving battery life and foreground app performance, which has until now proved elusive on mobile devices.

• App folders: Now you can sort your apps into folders! That's homescreen clutter solved, just like that. Apple's description:
Folders help users better organize and quickly access their apps. Simply drag one app icon onto another, and a new folder is automatically created. The folder is automatically given a name based on the App Store category of that app, such as "Games," which the user can easily rename. Using folders, users can now organize and access over 2,000 apps on their iPhone.

• Custom backgrounds: Jailbreakers have them. ****, the iPad has them. Now you can choose a persistent background for your iPhone—and not just for the lockscreen.
• Game Center: Apple's going to roll out a centralized gaming service—a multiplayer network like PSN or Xbox Live—to help connect games to one another, by the end on the year. There are 3rd-party services that already do this, like OpenFeint. They will probably die. Full details here.

• iAd advertising: It looks like Apple's finally making use of Quattro, that mobile ad company it gobbled up a few months ago, by rolling out its own advertising platform, a turnkey ad plugin for app developers called iAd. The theory here is that instead of relying on links to external websites, which pull users out of apps whenever they tap on an ad, developers can use Apple's new tools to keep people in the app while still showing them advertising—sort of like popover browser windows. You can watch videos, play games, and even buy apps from within these ads. • 5x digital zoom: Could this hint at a higher quality camera in the next hardware? 3.2 megapixels seems a bit low for 5x digital zoom.
• Bluetooth keyboards: Another carryover from the iPad, Bluetooth keyboard support will finally come to iPhone 4.

When the software ships in the summer, iPhone 3GSes and iPod Touch 3rd-gens devices will get all of the new features. The iPhone 3G and Touch 2G will get "many things," which doesn't include multitasking. I repeat: the iPhone 3G won't get multitasking, ever. iPhone 2Gs will be left on a hillside somewhere to die of exposure, or something.
Apple didn't drop any clues about the next iPhone's hardware, but it's a fair bet that we'll see some changes come June.
What About the iPad?

The iPad won't get the 4.0 upgrade until Fall of this year, a few months after the iPhone does. So, you'll be able to multitask on your dinky little iPhone before you'll be even be able to listen to Pandora and check your email at the same time on your giant iPad.

you will discover them by daily usage of your iPod. Only a few are visible on the first sight .
You can now tweet from all apps that support it, including Location and Pics.
Safari can email not only the URL but the full content of a website.
Emails can be rich-edited and Mails can be marked.
Safari has a private browing mode and a Reader feature to do away the advertising . Reading List

The Photos app is compeltely new, the Camera has new features including editing,croping,red-eyes.
You can set various ringtones for individual events throughout the OS .. iTunes Store offers ringtones from StarWars :-P
You can give your Device a own name, and you have a picture in Gamecenter.
You no longer need a PC or a Mac and you have the cloud and a me.com email plus 5 gigs of online space where your ipod syncs itself if you wish ..

Limit on devices per user that can connect to Office Mobile or Office for iPad apps?

We are are on an E3 license for Office 365. What is the maximum number of devices that a user can connect to the various mobile apps? I had hard 5 was the max, but can not find any documentation to support this. We are interested in using both Office Mobile
and the new Office for iPad apps and want to understand any restrictions at the user level. Thanks.

You are correct 5 devices max per user, these devices could be a PC/Tablet/Phone etc... (they all count as a device)

Makes no difference. Any machine that Apple has sold in the past 4 years runs Mountain Lion and Xcode with no problem. Xcode is far more demanding than a backend database and local web server.

Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it! It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

You can turn that feature off in Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>Contacts>Show in App Switcher>Recents>Off.

IOS 4.3 Upgrade on iPad 1 installs but no new features present

I installed iOS 4.3 on my iPad 1 and iPod Touch 3rd generation. The OS installed successfully. However, none of the new features appeared. The updated iTunes software correctly indicates that the current iOS is 4.3. What happened to the new features? In addition, no new softare apps were added; beta users on YouTube stated that this was part of the uupdate. Finally and regretfully, there was no update for the Verizon iPhone 4. How do I activate the new software features and obtain the new software apps? If I cannot get this fixed, I may need to take a trip to the Apple Store in the mall.

Now that you mention this, I do remember locating that function. That seems to be the only new item. I wonder why the other new features were not included? Thanks for making mention of this. I have a short memory tonight.

Can only see New apps in iPad app store

Seems kind of pointless to search for apps on the iPad app store, when it will only show you the "new" ones. When I choose any category, then click the show all button, I don't get all, just the "new" ones ... never more than about 97 or so. searching the same category in iTunes for just iPad apps will almost always yield far more choices. for example I can only see about 97 utilities for the iPad from my iPad app store, but in iTunes there are 260 choices. They aren't iPhone apps either. Another example, if I show the games category on the iPad I can only see 27 New and Noteworthy apps, and 24 What's hot apps. No more. In iTunes I have an additional option of a subcategory, for example Action, there are 200 games released for iPad since March 31st available in that one category.
Not sure if I have a preference set wrong, it's just a bug, or if someone just wasn't thinking. Mayabe it's a bandwidth thing, but at least give me the subcategories or let me see the "next" 50.

Why should I be forced to use iTunes to see all of the apps? The iPad app store should see everything just like iTunes.. This isn't an iPhone.
At least the link is some what helpful although quite slow going back and forth to app store to get details.

thanks but exactly how do I do this. I tried setting the new macair up using migration assistant but for some reason not everything has come through. I bought a thunderbolt cable to improve the transfer rate.
Now my question is how do I transfer the iTunes folder. I have authorised the new macair for iTunes and am within the 5 computer limit.

If these are the free versions of the games, buy the full version and the iAds should go away. The developer can offer the app for free by selling advertising. If the developer is going to give the app away, he has to be paid for his work somehow.
There may be some paid apps that might include iAds as well. In those instances, the developer includes the ads in order to subsidize the cost of the app to the end user in order to reduce the cost of the app. You should always read the app description when you download any app to make sure that you know what you are getting into - with regard to ads and in-app purchases.
Games are the worst offenders - IMO. Many "free" games become totally useless after you reach a certain level or if you reach your limit in lives or potions or things like that. If you want to continue in the game, you than have to make in-app purchases for levels, lives, potions, beads, whatever. You can rack ip quite a bill playing those "free" games if you are not aware of what you are getting into.
