New folder is dimmed how to fix?

Mac OS X 10.6.8 can not create new folder on desk top. The new folder is dimmed out.

Click on the desktop, choose Get Info from the File menu, open the Sharing & Permissions section, and give yourself write access to it.

My bookmark folder names keep changing, sometimes when I make a new folder it will change the name of other folders to the new folder's name, how do I stop this?

I sort all of my book marks into folders with subfolders. Sometimes, for reasons I haven't figured out yet, when I create a new folder or subfolder other folders names will be changed to that same name. Why does this keep happening & how do I get it to stop? This has been happening to me for a while even though I have installed newer versions & updated them, is this just a bug with the newer versions of Firefox? For example, I had a folder with my husbands's name, in the bookmark menu for all his ...I created a new subfolder called phys ed in my education folder ...my husband's folder was renamed to phys ed, also.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Application crashes, but not in new user account. How to fix?

Like many others on the forum, I have experienced frequent crashes in SL in Mail, Safari, Powerpoint, and other applications, particularly when adding an attachment to an email message or inserting an image file in a presentation slide. Did all the usual maintenance things such as verifying and repairing permissions, reinstalling SL, trashing virus protection apps, etc. Crashes persisted. However, I created a new user account and when working in that account the crashes do not occur.
What does this suggest about the nature of the problem and how do I resolve it, preferably without migrating all my files over to the new user account.

Open Directory Utility. You will find it in Applications/Utilities.
Click the lock to make changes and enter your admin password.
Go to the menu bar: Edit > Enable root user.
Follow the instuctions to create the System Administrator (Root) user.
Do not use the same password that a regular user already has. Do not use a trivial password.
Log out the current user.
In the log in window, enter root as the user name.
Enter the password that you just created.
You now have access to all User accounts, folders and files. Move the files you need from the old account to the working one. For example move the contents of your old Documents folder to the new Documents folder. This is easiest if you open two Finder windows and place them side by side. repeat this for the other folders in your old user space with one exception. *Do not* copy the contents of the Library folder.
There are a couple of things in the Library folder that you probably do want. To retrieve your email, copy the contents of the Mail folder. If you have installed fonts in your user space copy those too.
Let your new Library manage itself from then on. Your apps will place preference files etc in the appropriate folders as they are launched.
You should also give the working account admin priviliges. (System Preferences > Accounts)
Be very careful whilst logged in as root. The main Library and System folders are no longer protected and nothing requires a further password entry. Do what you need to do and get out of there.
When you are finished log back in to the working account and open Directory Utility once more.
Go to Edit > Disable root user.
Keep the old user account on the drive for a while until you are sure everything is working correctly and nothing is missing.

Recently opened sites grid in new tab has disappeared, how to fix?

So I recently installed a VLC player, and after the download, I noticed that the installation had also snuck in a bunch of other programs (I assume were viruses). When I opened up Firefox moments later, I realized that when I clicked to open a new tab, the grid wasn't there, and all the sites I had pinned were gone, I only saw a blank white window. I'm not sure whether there is a connection between the installed player and my Firefox problem, all I know is that the problem occurred moments after the player was installed.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

Iphone 4 ghosting started New Years day 2013 - how to fix this problem

Please help if you can, but I must point out I have tried everything found online so far, such as soft reset, hard reset, every back to factory default all provided the same ghosting on the screen.
OK So the problem is the home page is showing in the background of all other pages, causing a blur effect and loss of pixelation, and this all started on jan 1st 2013 - I thought oh I got bug, but as yet can not find anything new.
Like anyone else I want to try fix it with your help first before going to apple service,

Go to Settings/General/Reset - Erase all content and settings. the connecto to iTunes and restore as a New phone. Do not restore any backup. If the problem persists you have a hardware problem. Take it to Apple for exchange.
This assumes that the phone is not hacked or jailbroken. If it is you will have to go elsewhere on the internet for help.

It's not entirely clear to me, but I assume that you are trying to copy photos from the iPad to your computer (as opposed to syncing photos from your computer to the iPad), possibly using the windows camera wizard ? If so then the message is saying that it can't find a folder called 'New folder' on your computer which is presumably where it copied the last set of photos to (?). I don't use the wizard to copy the photos from iPad (I do it manually via windows explorer) so I don't know how it works, but aren't you able to tell it to copy the photos to a different folder on your computer other than one called 'new folder' ? All of a sudden I noticed that most of the folders on my computer were no longer using the folder icon, but the generic document icon. I had to manually change back the icon being used by opening Get Info for each folder and copying and pasting the generic folder icon from some folders that remained unchanged. Now whenever I create a New Folder (right click -> "New Folder"), the icon that shows up is the generic document icon (white page with top right corner turned down). And I have to manually change it so it shows up as a folder in Finder or on my desktop. I don't know why or how this switch happened. All of the folders now on my computer look ok, but I need to change the default so when I create a New Folder it uses the correct icon.
I have also Forced Relaunch of my Finder and rebooted the system. I downloaded Candybar but am not sure what will fix anything, so I haven't proceeded.
Anyone know how I can do this? Thanks.

Page numbers displayed incorrectly in TOC in new Pages - does anybody know how to fix this?

I'm working on a multi-section document with a single TOC for two sections. Section one uses lowercase roman numerals (i, ii,...) and section two arabic numerals (1, 2, ...). The page numbers are displayed correctly on the pages themselves, but in the TOC the first two headings from section two (pages 1 und 3) are displayed as "i" and "iii". This only started after the update to pages 5, everything was fine before that. Does anybody know how to fix this? I already tried deleting the TOC and inserting a new one and changing the numbers to uppercase letters and back, to no avail.

The information below is in the Finder's Help menu. Your problem creating a new folder may be due to your not having the correct window activated.
*Creating a folder*
You can create folders to organize your files and applications.
In a Finder window, open the location where you want to create the new folder.
Choose File > New Folder.
To give the folder a new name, select it, then click its current name. Type a name for the folder and press Return.
If the New Folder command is dimmed, you do not have permission to create a folder inside the folder you opened.
*Changing the icon of a file or folder*
You can use custom icons for any file or folder in the Finder. You can create your own icons or download icons from websites on the Internet. Once you have custom images, you can replace icons for items.
In the Finder, select a file whose icon you want to use.
Choose File > Get Info.
Click the icon in the Info window and choose Edit > Copy.
Select the file whose icon you want to replace and choose File > Get Info.
Select the icon in the Info window and choose Edit > Paste.

How do I set the default size of a new folder?

I have finder sized the way I want for existing folders and if I do Finder > New Finder Window. These preferrences, however, do not seem to apply to new folders. Everytime I create a new folder on my desktop, and open that folder for the first time, the window size is really small and the sidebar is narrow. This is incredibally annoying. How do I set the default size for all new folders? Is there a plist file I can edit to fix this? Or an AppleScript I can run automatically in the background that fixes this? I am running Mavericks 10.9.1.

If you use the Finder's New Finder Window command (command N) to create a new window, resize it, place it where you want, and set it for icon view or however you want it. Then close it. Closing it is what sets these as the default. That should become the default for every new Finder window you create using the new window command. But if you have lots of windows open at once and then close them, the last window you close will set a new default.
There are lots of utilities that control Windows - their size and placement. I use one called Moom but there are many more.

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Got the latest Itunes (11, I think) and now it says that 'Itunes.itl isn't working because it's a newer version of Itunes' and when I go to my older Itunes, the F7, F8 and F9 buttons won't work. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Okay, so I got the latest update and apparently it doesn't work. I had an icon on my desktop that wouldn't open because the 'newer Itunes' is apparently corrupt or something. Going into my applications, I found another Itunes icon and it opens up, but not the F7, F8 and F9 keys aren't working with it. I've already tried installing the latest version and that hasn't helped. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
