New folder message - iTunes list

I was busy working and got the message about creating a new folder, which I did not really paying attention. Then I had no podcasts in iTunes instead of all of them being listed. (Though I found the old podcasts are still on my hard drive.) In preferences I changed the location of my music folder back to where all the others are stored. Still they did not show up in my iTunes list, even after closing/reopening iTunes and hitting refresh. I figured I had somehow lost my subscription for the podcasts I listen to. Resubcribed.
Now the new podcasts (for today) show in my iTunes list, but podcasts from days before do not show in iTunes. However the old subscription downloaded on my hard drive while the new subscription was downloaded. Now I have ...Hour 3.mp3 and ...Hour 3 1.mp3 (etc) on my hard drive. So now I'm doubly subscribed with 2 copies on hard drive - but only one showing in the iTunes list.
Before I uninstall everything and restart, I thought I would ask for help. Anyway to clear this up?

  • Why is itunes only importing a few songs out of many in itunes music folder and then creating a new folder named "music" contianing those few songs?

This problem has come up after installing a new hard disk to replace a failed one.  I restored the music just fine but iTunes only recognizes a few of the song tracks and then creates a new folder within iTunes called "music"  that contains those few songs.  Tried deleting the .itl and .xml files and reimporting via "Add Library Folder" option with similar results.

  • Auto renaming of the tags when adding new folder

When I want to add new music to iTunes list, I open the file menu and select "add new folder".
That way it imports the songs in that folder. The problem is that it renames some the info of albums. Instead of the name of the track, there appears "artist - name of the track". Funny thing is that when I click on "Edit information" it switches back to the correct name.
But if I add a folder with 500 songs, and I have to click "Edit inforrmation" on half of them to make them use the correct name it isn't funny anymore.
If the name isn't "corrected" when I sync the iPod, the incorrect names are uploaded.
Is there any way to correct that and make iTunes use the correct name at once?
Note that I'm using the spanish version of iTunes and the names of the menus and options are a translation and may not be accurate
    Thanks for your help

    I noticed something similar:
If you change tags of a file which is in your iTunes library in another program (e.g. Winamp), you have to edit the file in iTunes afterwards to make these changes "active". It seems that iTunes makes its own database with the tag informations (otherwise everything would be much slower like in Winamp, which is terribly slow with my database of 28.000 mp3-files) and only updates this database when you edit the file.
I don't know why this happens with newly imported files but a possible solution to your problem which isn't too time consuming would be to select all the newly imported files and right click and edit the information for all of them, change nothing and exit again.

  • HT1589 How do I create a folder in Itunes

How do I create a new folder in Itunes?  I would like to create some genre folders and move the appopriate tunes in them.

Genres are not folders, they are a classification.
To create a genre, select the song in question and press the ALT key, followed by the F key and then the G key (that's (Menu)/File/Get Info/ ) and then select the Genre box at the bottom of the Info tab. Type in the genre you want and press OK.
You can change the Genre for multiple songs at one time. Simply highlight the songs in question and follow the procedure above. (You will see a question "Are you sure you want to edit information for multiple items?") You will notice that the Genre box will be empty if the songs you have selected have more different genres.

I have tried a few things but iTunes closes right after i click okay. Anyone know anything?

Look in your Home > Music folder.  There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl  You want to guide iTunes to that file.  If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

  • HT1449 This was somewhat informative, but what happens after you receive the  "The folder containing "iTunes Library" cannot be found, and is required. Please choose or create a new iTunes library,"? I ran through all the steps, received this message. Now

tried to move my itunes library to an external to free up space and run itunes off of an external. Went through all the steps. Received the message "The folder containing "iTunes Library" cannot be found, and is required. Please choose or create a new iTunes library," like it mentioned I might, and here is where the instructions end. Now what?

Problem solved by doing the following:
Open PC/Mac and search for iTunes Library.
From the list, select the most recent version of iTunes Library. Save this to a folder.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • TS1717 My itunes won't open and I get message that says "The file iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes." I am unsure what this means, but I have uninstalled and reinstalled the itunes, and it still will not

I receive the message: The file "iTunes library.itl"cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. I do not know exactly what this means.  I have Windows 7 on my computer and was able access itunes until just recently.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes multiple times and that does not work.  Sometimes I can get in when immediately after installing, but then if I close it, i cannot get back in. Now, i can't get in at all.

That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.

I don't know why this error occurs, unless you have attempted to downgrade iTunes.
This method should get you up and running again.

i have a new iphone5 and would like to have my own itunes list away from the familys itune list?
i have now got my own apple id account but where do i go from here?
    thanks danny.

The user data is store in the profile folder. You can copy the data manually by copying the contents of the profile folder, for details see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup Profile backup - MozillaZine Knowledge Base] or [[Backing up your information]].
There are some add-ons and utilities that can make this process easier. The first one is the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2109/ FEBE] add-on which can be used to copy a profile. Another option is the free [http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ MozBackup] utility.

  • I get the error message itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes

    Hi,
I had my pc reformatted and win 7 64 bit installed. As I have come to put everything back on the pc I accidently installed the 32 bit version of iTunes. I realised this when certain functionality wasn't working.
So I uninstalled itunes and all the associated software, bonjour etc etc and have d/l the 64 bit version.
Now when I try to start up iTunes I get the "itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes" error message and the application will not load.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Dave

    Hi V_K04,
You said that it happened only on few sub sites, whether this issue occurred on some subsites, and some subsite worked well.
Please check whether there are some differences between the subsites that worked well and the problematic subsites.
Whether this issue occurred on all libraries and lists on problematic subsites.
Whether there are some customizations in these problematic libraries and lists.
Please create a new library and a new list, test again, compare the result.

  • Error message -50 ever since I installed new version of iTunes... weird!

A few days ago I installed the new/updated version of iTunes from the 'automatic prompt' which informed me there was a newer version of the software available.
Now, ever since I've been using iTunes upon start-up I get this weird thing happening:
    1- ITunes opens, no problem
2- Progress bar appears on screen saying "Updating iTunes library" (which never happened before I installed the new version on iTunes)
3- An Error message appears saying "the iTunes Library files cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50). Do not warn me again"
Well, my iPod seems to be sync-ing fine and I've not lost any music, so I'm confused as to what this error message actually means.
If anyone can shed any light on this or what I've done wrong I would be most grateful.
I don't fancy losing all my podcasts and music! Ouch...
    Thanks!

I would check macfixit.com . there are several articles about fixing the -50 error. The latest article is free, the others require a subscription. This is from their very helpful site:
Another option for recreating the library to resolve -50 errors We previously reported that a full library deletion and restore may be required to eliminate -50 errors that occur while iTunes 7.3 is launching. The process we mentioned involves backing up the music library to another location, then deleting the original library and finally re-importing. However, you can also simply backup then create a new library at launch and re-import, as follows:
    1. Quit iTunes
    2. Backup your iTunes library (the folder ~/Music/iTunes) to a separate location (can be on the same volume)
    3. Launch iTunes while holding down the option key and follow the steps to create a new library
    4. In iTunes, choose Import from the FIle menu
    5. Select the backed up ~/Music/iTunes as a source folder
    6. Restore any deleted preferences
