does anyone else wish that apple would stop reinventing the wheel and leave a good thing alone?
i used to solve every problem thru the great posts on this site. now i cant find anything.
this new format is the most user unfriendly i have ever experienced. if i have to scroll through one more interminable lists of iphone or itunes topic i am going to scream.
i feel like it's catering to kids now. going to start using macforum or other sites until applegets it together...anyone have this experience? maybe they'll listen to a bunch of us.

Why not narrow the search?
Click on the 'More Options links and you can refine the search to a specific forum, specific, specific poster even.

New Format for creating Attribute Sets.

Hi,
In SAP CRM webclient ui 7.0 there is a new format for creating Attribute Sets. The format is 'value table'.
On selecting Format=Value Table the field 'Table' comes up.
There is a message: Here you can enter a table that contains all the values you want to use. This is particularly useful for attributes with a lot of values or if you want to enter multiple attributes with the same values. The table must be a check table with a search help.
Do I need to create a table with all the fields in in marketing attribute assignment block with search help on attributes field.
Can you please guide as to how I should go about this issue.

Hi John,
The Attribute Set of Format type 'Value Table' is for the Mutiple Attribute Sets. These can be either a Single Attribute Set with Multiple values or the Multiple Attribute Sets with One value.
You can include all such marketing attributes into one table which is a check table with search help. and use this as the Value Table.

New format for USB devices.

I am facing an issue with new USB drives. There is a new standard for windows 8 when usb device in detected as an hard drive and not external driver. Thus SCCM is not able to create a boot media.
I have not done much research on it. I want to see if someone had same issues and got it to work?

This is a known issue, best advice, by a cheap USB memory which doesn't present itself as an Hard Drive. There is no good workaround.

New Format for e-mail

Totally hate it with a passion. Can only see 4 e-mails at a time But you can Sure see the ADVERTISEMenT S to the left of e-mails Oh that's right you can click on to make it bigger Yea sometimes it works and most time not. WHY WHY WHY did you change it. Maybe it would be better for me to change services Not happy at all. Automatically the check bounces down to the next one to delete or whatever even if your not wanting to. You have to go SLOWER to make sure your not deleting something you want to keep. Who ever got the raise for instituting this needs to lose it. Definitely hate it.

It sounds like you are referring to the "Rich" Interface. This isn't really new, it's been available for months.
If you don't like the Rich interface, you can always switch to the "Basic" Interface and see if you like it better. There should be a link at the top that says "Basic Interface" - Click it and it will switch you. (And don't worry, if you decide you don't like Basic you can switch back to Rich the same way.)

How can i update my old .cp to the new format for Cap7?

I have over 30 projects that were created with Captivate 4, throught a series of unfortunate events (my system crashed) i lost my old Captivate 4 program. My company just installed the new Captivate 7 on my computer and i cannot access the old projects because of the file extension.
I understand that i need to save them to the new extensions but don't know how to do that. Is it possible to download a free trial of Captivate 6 resave my old projects to the new extensions?
I really don't want to have to redo all of these projects. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hope someone of Adobe staff will pop in, because you'll need to have 5 or 5.5 to convert the cp-files to cptx.
Even when that is done, expect to have upgrade problems: AS2 was still supported on CP4, but not in later versions. Question slides can cause quite a lot of issues as well. Sometimes it is quicker to reuse the assets and create from scratch in CP7.

Getting correct field length when creating formats for delimited flat files

Using Data Services 3.2 to pull in tsv and Excel source files.
When creating a new format for each file, DS tries to intelligently set the field size for each column. However, it seems to sample only a portion of the file. The end result is that it often determines too short a length for a field.
Is there a way to force it to scan an entire file before it sets the field length? Or alternatively, how to get it to at least throw an error instead of silently truncating my data?

I am not aware of any way to force DS to scan the whole file, or to log a warning when it truncates. The field sizes DS sets by using a sample of the data is only really to give you a starting point, you need to try and determine the maximum possible lengths preferably from someone who understands the source of the data or through profiling. But the profiling method will obviously only be based on the data you have at the time of profiling, new data added to the source later could exceed the field lengths. The way I prefer to handle this is to set all the field lengths to longer than expected, eg. varchar(999) and then use a validation transform immediately after reading the file to check for any fields that exceed the maximum allowed for the target system and send these to an error file/table.

New Discussion pages formatted for iPhone - pls!!

Anyone else agree that Apple need to get an iPhone verion of these discussion pages? Typing is horrible. Too much lag when typing. Come on Apple! Even your own website is not formatted for an iPhone.

Well the script here constantly saves what you type so the "lag" is when it is saving while typing. Happens in BeeJive or Meebo as well because processing is gonig on while typing.
Apple isn't going to make an iPhone only version because that would go against the fact they released a phone with a real browser to hit real sites instead of mobile ones. Now yes it spawned many sites to make mobile sites (and even geared to the iPhone) but if Apple were to do it, it will say to the world, look we made a real webbrowser on a phone, but we had to change our site to let it work better. Not good PR.

Need advice on whether to build a traditional database layout or a property bag lookup format for new application?

This may be a little of an open ended question, but Id like to ask the crowd as I have a delema to whether or not to use a standard database design or a propertybag/flatfile format and transform the information within my application?
THE SITUATION (EXAMPLE)
We have a table called "people". And these persons can either be a basic contact or be associated to several other "types" such as a member, a representative, a staff member with login details etc. These types are expected to expand
and may need additional fields adding to them.
A: The old fashioned poor approach is to create a table with all the unused columns and simply ignore what we don't need.
B: After normalisation, the traditional approach would be to have link table and each "type" would have its own table with the separate columns needed.
C: Lasty, we have recently done some projects using matrix and property type lookup tables (e.g. a reference table to hold the persons ID, then the columns held in a single properties table of "propertyname and proteryvalue". When the application
"gets" the record it can return a completely dynamic length column list based on how many properties it finds. I.e. Person 1 have only their email address and name in the property bag so the datatable returned in code would be 2-3 columns (inc
id). Person 2 has lots of properties and so their datatable would be returned in code with many more columns.
I hope that makes sense?
THE DILEMA
If I was only using our application to access the data then I could setup a function library to control the access, but I asl want to use report editors (maybe SQL report Services?). And the customer would get completely confused to know which field
is what and how to get the data out? I also want to avoid situations where the application expects someone to have a property (column) and its not there? It may make a difference if I tell you that they will aslo have tables holding heiracrchical
groupings too, which will already make it hard for the customer to use in SQL Report Services. Should I use the traditional approach and the metastable (property bag) approach?
PROS AND CONS of B:
+Traditional approach and most tools that need to access SQL directly will work, assuming the customer understands the column names properly
-A single field change would likely involve all levels of MVC (model, Controller, View) so 3 times the work (maybe 3 people if using specialist SQL Admin, C# Dev and Interface Designer)
-New person types require a whole new table to be linked in
-Global searches need to constantly be updated to include other tables columns
+Our development suite (Visual Studio) allows more visual designing in the IDE when the table is fixed
PROS AND CONS of C:
-Cant see the record easily in SQL directly
-Would have to make any report editor use datasets within an the app rather than direct to SQL directly, making the whole system dependant on a proprietary APP control system (although we would control this anyway)
+Global searches are very good, as all properties are held in a column
-The property table would grow quote big, so needs good indexing
+Any new fields or field groups (types) would simply be a configuration setting in the app (not any manual admin)
+If any presentation of data changes where needed this is likely to only require the controller (developer) on MVC to input changes (assuming the interface expects dynamic fields)
-The tables to show to the user through the app would need to handle dynamic columns and so would need to have generic auto formatting in code (which we could not see in the designer (Visual Studio) and set exactly as required). Slight guess work, but we
could hold setting in the property bag to indicate how to show that property.
A little bit war and peace, but your thoughts?

PS: Some of you may raise the option of stored procedures, in order to do the transform without SQL still. Would this be viable and still work with SQL Report Services?

You ARE using a RDBMS and you appear to intend to use standard development tools. Therefore you will probably regret any attempt to move away from a properly normalized relational database. And that does not begin to address any performance
aspects.
Option A really should not be considered an option. That is not proper normalization for a relational database.
As best I can tell option C is simply an EAV (Entity Attribute Value) model - and you can search on that term for discussions about the pros and cons.
Lastly, AFAIK reports / SSRS can use stored procedures as information sources - that really isn't a design issue. However, if you choose option C then you most likely will be forced to use procedures for reporting purposes.

Is there a way by which I can preserve my work done on DV PAL and switch it preserving its proportions, scale and orientation, but on a HD project sequence?? Appreciate your help and advice..

Yes. A couple of ways that might work.
First Way
What you need to do is load one of your hd clips in the viewer and edit into a new HD sequence. Does it display correctionly?
OK, select the clip in the hd timeline and copy (command-c). Now go to the HD sequence with the material that's distorted. Select all (command-a) and paste attributes (option-v) and choose basic motion and distort. That should maek things work. What won't work is anything that you've adjusted as far as basic motion or distort in your PAL sequence. That I'm pretty sure you'll have to redo.
Second Way.
Choose your original PAL sequence and do a Media Manage changing the sequence preset to the appropriate HD paramenters with the media offline. You then should be able to reconnect these clips with your original HD media.

Want to upgrade from snow leopard to lion, need to purchase an external harddrive to b/u my stuff. will formating for snow leopard be ok when uploading to the new system (lion)?

oh sorry, I thought that was where we put the question I am on an extremely tight budget, but since I do shift work, I wanted to use the iCloud funciton to keep my calendars uptodate on my pc/mac mini/and iphone. Wish there were a way to do it for free on my snow and snow leopard OS, but sinc e I cannot, I am wondering about formatting the external harddrive (which I have to purchase). If I format for the snow leopard, will there be a problem re installing the information into the new snow leopard OS machine? Also, I am wondering about the older Mac Pro I have that is the OS before snow leopard (Snow, I believe) will I be able to use this same HD for backing it up to upgrade it (at a later date)?

Currently when I open the category Discussions>Safari>Safari for Mac, I see an error message that reads;

I have searched for a link to "contact the system administrator", but cannot find it.
I get around the Safari for Mac category error message by clicking on 'next' and it then displays the current threads.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a bonus issue I'd like to resolve asap, to get to my original issue with Safari 4.1 crashing.

I really need to speed up my IMAC. I purchased a new external drive specifically formatted for apple. I also would like to move some other media (movies and music) to this external drive. What is the best method for this?

Please help...I need to delete iphoto pictures and back up to external drive without losing pictures. I have the external drive and would like to start this process. Can you help?

Formatted for Mac is not a format - for iPhoto you MUST verify that it is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled)
and putting your iPhoto library on an external drive is NOT a backup - you MUST have a good backup plan like Time Machine running or you are 100% guaranteed to lose your photos sooner or later
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
other media questions need to be ask in the forum for the software you use for them - this forum is only for iPhoto and the above instructions are only for iPhoto

Problem: I have a New Mac and my iPod is formatted for Windows

My old computer (PC with Windows) crashed and took all my music with it.
I got a new computer, a Mac. I have looked at many different programs for moving music from the iPod to the computer and many are appealing (Podworks and iRip). However, they do not seem to be working because my computer is not recognizing my iPod. I set my iPod into disk mode by following the instructions on this website. However, that has not helped.
The problem may be in the fact that my iPod is formatted for Windows and I am no longer using Windows. I cannot reformat my iPod for a Mac at this point because my iPod is the only location of my music. Reformatting it now would erase all my music and I have no backup!!
When I am plugging my iPod into the computer, I am holding the Option+Command keys to make sure that the iPod does not automatically sync. Is this necessary? I ask this because my iPod has no connection with this computer's iTunes and I have doubts that it would automatically sync. It seems that by holding the Option+Command Keys I am preventing the computer from recognizing the iPod. A brief iPod icon appears on the desktop and then disappears.

How do I format my new ipod for windows?

I already have itunes 7 on my computer. I have read that the ipods come formatted for a mac, and you need to format them for windows. I have read about opening the updater. The updated is not listed as a program on my computer. I also would not want to run the updater and accidentally update the firmware. Some posts have said you just need to plug in the new ipod and it works. I do not expect to be that lucky.
