New G5, too many problems.

After years and years of contemplating going MAC from PC.
I finally did it. And, i'm getting nothing but noises and problems. My unit sounds like mini bee-bees are running thru a tiny funnel when asking to process. The unit sounds like an electronic door that has not been oiled is constantly opening and closing. And, now, after 15 days new, it crashed on me. See 'panic' report below:
Do I have something to worry about. Or is do all MAC users settle for this? After spending $3,500, i'm really, really disappointed. Any professional or experienced opinions would really be appreciated!
Thank you.

Hey tp,
I would be happy to share more details...
It looks like you're using a dual 2.5Ghz.
-close...a 2.3Ghz
Are you using any external devices?
- yes, 3 Maxtor External HD's (2-I, and 1 - II)
Is that really all that was in the panic log?
- yes, that was the entire panic log.
Normally, there's some backtrace info which can lead to clues. How much memory? All Apple RAM - or was third-party RAM added recently?
- See error log below. As for RAM...it is all Apple proprietary and was installed at he Apple Store. It's a brand new machine straight from the Fashion Valley store in San Diego.
Thanks. I'll look forward to hearing back!

  • Too many problems with z1

Well to start off I'm a loyal Sony user. And I recently purchased the z1 after falling in love with it at first sight. Before this I had the arc s which I'd bought as soon as it was released in my city and used it till I lost it a month ago.
I'm really careful about my gadgets. I keep them safe and right, no harsh use our anything.
So moving on, the problems I've been facing with the Z1 are :
Phone randomly switches off or restarts on its own.
The backlight stays on even after I've locked the phone,. I've tried checking / un-checking the optimise lighting option. Nothing helps. And the problem only gets solved after I take a pen and stab the red OFF button.
Another really annoying problem I've been facing is that there is a delay while talking on the phone, like my voice reaches the person after a long gap of 2-3 secs. It's made talking on the phone impossible.
I don't have too many apps on the phone, restart it every other day or when I make changes. Keep it clean and right.
Idk what's wrong. I'm really disappointed after spending so much money.

For the audio delay when on a call I would actually advise speaking with your network provider as it is very unlikely that your phone would be causing this.
For the restarting issue, given what you have said I would advise running an update/repair if you have not already:
    1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
    2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
    3. Phone Software Update.
    4. Start.
    5. Repair Phone
    6. Continue
    7. Accept data removal
    8. Next
    9. Wait for prepare
    10. Select Phone
    11. Follow the connection steps

  • Too many problems-what's wrong with my machine or OS?

Lately I have had many problems with my computer and am not sure what is the cause. The list is
    - apps crash (primarily pro apps - Final Cut Pro Studio apps)
    - grey crash screen frequently
    - black lines across the screen (video card issue?)
    - sometimes broken looking icons (video card issue?)
    - weird color problems with display (Great condition apple 23" Cinema display)
    - odd asian characters mixed iwth english characters in the restart dialogue box
    - screen will sometimes go black
    - Motion 2.1 makes entire machine slow down (such as moving over dock icons)
    - apps hang for a long time
    - G5 fans spin more
Incidentally, S.M.A.R.T status is verified on both internal drives, ran disk utility and fixed permissions yielded no problems found, I installed a new Tiger OS (archive and install, saving users and network prefs) and still had the problems, and ran Disk Warrior and still have the problems.
Any suggestions folks? At my witts end. I want to say the video card could be at fault but how do you know if a video card has problems? is there a card utility like DISK UTILITY?
    My config:
G5 Dual 2 GHZ/ 4 GB RAM/ two 250 GB SATAs/ Apple 23" Cinema display (last model, not aluminum)/ Apple 17" LCD Studio Display/ WACOM Intuos2/ Blackmagic Decklink Extreme Card/ ATI Radeon 9600 XT (in AGP slot)/ ATI Radeon 9200 (in PCI slot)

  • How do you uninstall lion; too many problems

how do you uninstall lion; too many problems

    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • Too many problems with flashplayer

I'm getting more and more frustrated with flashplayer. Ever since it it came out with the 11 versions I've had too many crash problems, graphics are jumpy and messy on fb games. I can't stand it! If I downgrade fp, then I can't play certain games as they require the most up to date player. I can't win! Whatever you guys had in the older versions needs to go back to that sort of programing. Whatever got added in simply messed up my crap. If I didn't have to rely on fp so much it would've been long gone by now. That's how angry I am at it.
If you want to know my OS, it's Windows Vista 32 bit. Browser used is Firefox.
P.S. And I did try all the method suggestions through support to see if things would run fine. It's not FF, I know that. I never had any problems with Flash until version 11's came out.

<i>Also I don't really think that I have to manually update these device, as the updates are running automatically on my laptop... Thanks </i>
Correct!! You're on Windows 7 so if that's an OEM machine (brand name like HP, Acer, etc) then your drivers should already be updated. Also, Windows Updates handles all of the drivers in their Optional Updates (afaik).
How is Flash doing? Is it still misbehaving or was it fixed after disabling hardware acceleration?

    1. I can't access my email through E65 ( I made all the configurations but I couldn't access , my network administrator tried and he failed as well) there is no connection coming while trying to connect.
I also tried using windows live messenger but It couldn't connect as well. ( the Internet is working ang I checked my self and logged to google from my mobile )
    2. I can't use the lock code because seems there is a bug.
    3. I can't install many programs, it starts installation then suddenly it disappears. Sometimes it gives a notification of a wrong certificate or something alike.
If I succeed in installation I can't find the program in my phone
still the hope is there to get an upgrade to this mobile. Ohterwise I might sell it even with loose.

  • I been creating spreadsheets without too many problems -New to Mac

One thing I can't figure out is how do I delete a page. On a spreadsheet I've created, some how a second and third page was created but is is some of the same info and not needed. How do I delete those pages. OR could I have created a table by mistake and to me it just looks the same??? Sorry I know that sounds funny but when I look at the spreadsheet I see that the Sheet says 3 pages. I'm sure this is easy but I can't find it yet. Thanks for any help you can give.

    Gogoette,
I will try to explain what you are seeing in a slightly different way. Ashka's techniques will get you where you want to go.
Each Numbers Sheet has as many pages as you will ever need for the content you may ever put on it, if you're an average user doing tasks similar to the ones illustrated in the Templates. In Print View, all the empty pages are grayed-out and all the Pages with content on them are bright white on a gray background. When you Print your Numbers Sheet, all the Pages with content will print by default. Numbers just assumes that wherever you have content, even if the content is an empty cell, that you will want to print it. By Content, I mean Tables, Text Boxes, Shapes, Pictures, etc.
This is unlike other spreadsheet programs where the tables go on virtually forever and it is assumed that you only want to print the pages where the table has data in the cells. In Numbers, you are expected to only have tables large enough for your data and to delete unused rows and columns.
One issue that must be confusing to new Numbers users is that the default Table in the Blank Document Template spreads out over several pages. Printing even this empty document will use four sheets of paper if you are setup for 8.5 X 11" Landscape printing.
So, to slim down your Tables to fit your data and eliminate unwanted pages, delete empty rows and columns. You may still have extra pages if your tables have been moved away from the top or left margins, in which case you may drag them back up and left. And of course, you may just have a lot of data requiring extra space, in which case you can reduce the Content Scale to shrink everything down if getting everything on one page is important to you.
    Hope this helps.

  • Just too many problems, iMovie, iDVD

After working with the same project for the past 2 weeks and getting nowhere, I finally gave up in total frustration and deleted the entire project, one piece at a time. I spent the last hour today starting at, 10:45 Am Alaska time and tracked down every piece of my project, iMovie and iDVD and deleted the whole shebang. Problems kept happening over and over and each time, were getting worse than the last time.
This time, iDVD froze up. It did it last night and again today. After waiting for 9 hours over night, and again 5 hours today for it to finish encoding and to finally burn the project, I ended up doing a "force quit", because iDVD wasn't responding at all. It was highlighted in red on force quit, with the words, ("iDVD not responding") in parenthesis. This told me that the program was locked and would not be able to complete the assigned project, so I force quitted the project and scrapped the entire thing.
Now I'm forced to make another decision. Do I go on and re-enter the video into my computer and start over? Or, do I just say forget it and trash the entire idea of producing an DVD from my video footage all together? I'm ****** off and frustrated at how poorly this new and expensive program is not operating like it was designed and supposed to do. Why did I spend all that money, for a program that doesn't work the way it was designed to? Is anyone else feeling the way I do right now?
    Froglips from Alaska

Your not alone. I just spent over a week trying to
burn a project. I have a new iMac and the latest
iLife.....thought I'd be set for awhile however while
trying many different possible solutions for my
problem have spent the last week dancing around
iMovie bugs, iDVD bugs and Quicktime bugs forcing me
to do "workarounds" which take extra time again. I
like alot of things about Apple however people pay
for a workable product and iLife should not cause
people this much pain. I've used software that is 98%
bug-free so I know it can be done but Apple does'nt
seem to be willing to test its software thouroughly
enough on a wide variety of systems and different
circumstances to eliminate the bugs....and so we
....its faithful followers end up being its
"bug-testers". Perhaps it also has to do with the
desire to "pump-out" new versions every 9-16 months
however I would much prefer to wait longer and even
pay reasonably more for a new version that worked
properly. I want a company and software that is
usable, reliable and responsive to its customers.
This is the kind of company I'd be willing to be
faithful to. I've noticed that Apple has a tendency
to either be non-responsive alot of the time to
problems brought up in these forums or to deny that
    problems exist. (It's hubris).Thats why sometimes a
new version of iMovie will carry over some bugs from
a previous version. Of course the right way to handle
this would be to acknowledge the problems , then do
everything you can to make sure they dont come up
again. After doing some testing myself between iMovie
2 and iMovie 5......I find iMovie 2 to still be the
fastest and most reliable version however it does"nt
have the "extras" that version 5 has. Instead of
building on the firm foundation of iM2 ....the
foundation was ripped up and we got the disasterous
iMovie 3.(To be fair...iM4 and 5 are at least better
than 3). When phoning Apple Support for assistance
with my latest problem .......my "helper" was trying
to tell me that my Mac was"nt capable of burning a
DVD over 1 hour . I ended up having to read some
passages out of the "Missing Manual" to convince him
otherwise. Apple often tends to say that the people
in these forums only represent a small percentage of
all its users ....tending to dismiss the
problems.......however its also true that only a
fraction of the people having problems come to these
forums for help. Alot more struggle on their
own....ask other people.....or just give up and move
on to some other software that works. As I said
    earlier...I'm generally a fan of Apple.....but they
really should wake up and test their products
thouroughly before releasing. I have Final Cut
Express but I like the beauty in the simplicity and
ease of use of iLife. iLife is a great
    concept............if only it worked properly.
Having said my say.......all I can suggest is that
if you persist and keep trying different possible
solutions found in this forum, theres a good chance
you'll eventually work it out (as I did). Only you
know if its worth the effort. Good luck.
Thanks Mr. Thompson, for your input. I agree completely with many of the things you said. I too, am a fan of Apple products, the computers especially. But that entheusiasm I once had about them has diminished considerably in light of the problems that seem to be ongoing. I finally gave up completely on the project that I was trying to edit, and I deleted the whole project. Right now I'm trying to decide if it will be worth the effort and time, to reenter my video and try again. I commend you for your diligence and willingness to keep trying and thank you for encouraging me to keep trying, but for now I'll take a break and rest on it before I decide what to do next.

  • Too many problem with Lion

So many things are not working properly in os10.7.2:
    1. File manager - I need to force quit and restart it to work about 2 times daily.
    2. Printing on HP network FAX and printer - my imac doesn't find it but PC under VMWare does in same machine on same network. For example the symple proces of printing from my mc is makeing pdf, open vmware and pc, open pdf SW in pc and print
    3. Start application by 2X clicking a file name will not start 70% of the time
    4. Software update 60% of apps needed update after installing lion will download and start running the update but fail to actualy do the update
    5. Hitting an app icon in the dock will no longer take me back to an open app.
    6. Uploading pictures to Facebook will work from apperture but will not let me select them from facebook (I have to open the pc under vmware and there I can do it frolm IE
    7. Computer seems slower and stickie than in Snow leopard - mostly when working in Apperture
    8. programs used to expand music .flac file are doing it partially - need to use PC under vmware to open my downloaded music
this are just few things that came to mind. It makes no sense to use mac any longer
An help to olve each and all issues will be appreciated.

Exactly the same infuriating problem we and many others get with OS X from 10.6 on when Apple dropped Apple Talk.
Having spent days fighting to get drivers that will run our older laser printers like HP5000, 5100, 2100, 2200 and 4MV, we came up with a simple solution:
We use an iMac running 10.5.8 as a print server. All the 10.6 upwards Macs on the same network will see and add the printers immediately through the shared older (Apple Talk) iMac.
Cheapest and simplest option really .... it'sannoying that a brand new Mac can no longer see existing network printers without complex investigation and trying various downloads.
Answer is simple and cheap if you happen to own a 4 or 5 year old Mac with an OS lower than 10.6 which still has Apple Talk.

  • Too many problems with Firefox... my company asking to convert to Chrome! What's happening here folks?

Firefox for OS X is rapidly losing favor within my company - the FF browser is getting too unreliable (freezes & crashes), non-intuitive/complicated for configuration, and loses configurations/settings with its MANY updates.
People are liking Chrome & Safari more and more - but I LOVE FF because its 100% CSS compliant.
What's happening to my favorite browser??

Hi, what problems exactly are you having that you're looking for help for?
People in an enterprise situation might consider using [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/ Firefox ESR], which updates much less frequently as regular Firefox and as such is supported for much longer periods of time.

  • I do not have a backup from Mavericks, but Yosemite is causing too many problems. In LAYMAN'S terms, is there a way to get Mavericks back without losing all my files?

I updated to Yosemite while I was overseas and didn't have strong enough internet to do a Time Machine backup (it took hours to get Yosemite as it was and now I know that was dumb). Yosemite has made my older Mac almost un-usable. In LAYMAN'S terms, Is there a way I can go back to Mavericks or even an older system without losing my current files? I know nothing about computers and have not been able to find anyone in town that could help. Even the guy at the Genius Bar at Apple couldn't figure out how to help me. This whole Yosemite debacle has been the first time I've been disappointed in Apple. It has gotten me questioning whether I should go back to a PC.

This is the report. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

  • New to Apple--many problems--help!

I purchased my first-ever Apple in March 2006. About 6 weeks into my learning experience, the iMac wouldn't connect to the Internet. After 2 weeks in the repair shop I got it back. Worked fine for about 2 weeks, then developed the same problem. I just got it back-again--now my mouse won't scroll down or sideways and I have to click several times to make it work--this happened the same day I brought it back from the repair shop. I called them, they did some troubleshooting over the phone and seem to think the mouse is bad.
I have the Apple Care Protection plan. I have sent emails to the product support specialist who had been helping me, I've called and left messages--but after 6 days still no answer.
I honestly feel that these problems are not typical--BUT, I'm very frustrated. I own 2 Dell pc's; 1 Gateway and 1 HP--(granted, the HP helped make the decision to move away from pc's much easier!) and both Dell and Gateway have wonderful tech support and product support.
Is there a better way to approach this? It's hard to have a new toy and it not work. I was almost ready to ask for a refund after this last problem, now with the mouse and no response I am really ready to call it quits.
I really like Apple--and want to rid my home of pc's, but now I'm not so sure. Is there a way to contact Apple without having to wait 30+ minutes on the phone? Why won't the product specialist (who gave me his email and direct extension) return my emails/calls?
I need reassurance that my equipment problems and support problems are not typical...and advice what to do next.
    THANKS!

    HI Amy,
Are you connected using Ethernet Cable? If so, there have been quite a few posts here regarding the Ethernet Port not working correctly or completely disabled, you might try usiing a wireless router/modem... you can do a search of this forum, 'ethernet port'...
Mouse... open system preferences > keyboard & mouse > mouse... try a different setting for the double clicking. For the scrolling, try a lightly damp cloth and clean ball by wiping and turning, turning and wiping, it probably will make a comeback but... if not, exchange for a new one, there have been alot of issues with the Mighty Mouse. Try mhunter's advice and plug in any usb Mouse, PC or Apple, it will work...
I would never get rid of an extra PC that is working properly and would serve as a backup, you will need it...
Online Support Chat was easy to find at one point , now I can't seem to find a link... I have not had to call Apple Support (knock on wood!) but I do have the extended 3 year Apple Care thing.
There are no reassurances you will not encounter any problems in the near future or down the road. My advice would be learn about your new machine and get the most out of it, do not expect perfection and be ready for problems... post any other questions here at the forum and you'll probably get good advice that will in most cases correct the issues...

  • Can I easily reload os 10.6.8 from 10.8.3? Too many problems!

I recently upgraded from 10.6.8 to 10.8.3. I have an iMac/3.06 GH/Intel i3. Many things seem slower, I get spinning wheels a lot now, YouTube stalls, pages don't fully load, shutdown went from 10 sec to 30 sec, Finder windows don't remember, or collapse to a thinner size as before. Many issues, why would simple things change? I'm very unhappy with this upgrade. I have a Time Machine back-up. Would it be possible to move that to a bootable drive, test it to see if it works, then transfer that to my internal using SuperDuper!? Sounds risky though. Any suggestions?

You say you have a Time Machine backup. Did you have that backup when you were still running Snow Leopard? If so, just restore the most recent backup from the time that Snow Leopard was installed:
    http://pondini.org/TM/14.html
Of course, you'll have to have a separate backup so you can copy anything that has changed between then and now back onto your system.
Also, note that the problems you describe are not all normal. It sounds like you probably have some incompatible software installed, or a borked installation, or something else along those lines. You would probaby do better to try to solve those problems than assume that Mountain Lion is the problem. Take a look here:

  • Too many problems to count

I am becoming so frustrated with my apple tv, itunes and time capsule that I could trash them all. And I really don't want to do that because I spent a lot of money on some of these things.
Maybe someone out there can help me out.... but I'm not sure where to start so I will go with stating my problems briefly first.
I have about 700 music albums, 10 movies and probably 50 or so tv episodes on my itunes.
Originally, on the hard drive of my computer I had an itunes media folder, and I had my own personal folder of music I had downloaded myself (off of my CD's etc.) but not from itunes.
I never had any problems setting up my itunes, or my apple tv to read any of these files.
Then, I purchased the time capsule because my computer was starting to run slow etc.
Other than a few snags, I had no problem moving my media libraries (both the itunes and my other) to the timecapsule, and I used my itunes and apple tv fine.
    No problems.
Then, after a few houseguests which may have altered my settings etc. No telling! I come home , go to pull up my itunes and my entire library is gone. I pull up my time capsule and everything is gone there too. I have no idea what someone did to thte darn thing. What's weird is that, you could see that files were taking up space on my time capsule, but I couldn't view a single file. It looked like everything was gone. I told my houseguest about the problem, and suddenly 20 minutes later they tell me they've fixed the problem. I open itunes and sure enough my library is there, so I thought. Well the holidays came and I didn't really check anything out until a day ago and found that there is actually NOTHING on my time capsule anymore. The library they have uploaded is now back on my hardrive, back in the old folder? What the heck? AND I'm missing the folder of purchases from placed other than itunes! AGH! I've no idea everything i lost. Regardless, I tried to move what is left of my media folder back to the way I previously had it set up on my time capsule. I moved the library through itunes, consolidated, all that good stuff I did the first time, but now I have the exclamation marks telling me that the song can't be found. The problem is, I don't know where to locate the files anymore. I'm wondering if they are ones that were part of another library that was deleted by this person? I'm so at a loss.
What I have managed to salvage and sync isn't working properly either. This goes into my other set of problems. When I sync my itunes with my apple, I can see all the movies I've purchased on my apple, but I can't pull them into my itunes (to dowload onto my time capsule.)
Also, now I've rented a movie on my apple tv, it downloaded, I went to watch it and it's not there anymore.
I'm sorry to ramble, I am just at my wits ends. I don't know where to begin anymore. If someone could even tell me a good place to start with getting my library, tv, and itunes back on track again I would so greatly appreciate it.
Thanks so much in advance for taking the time to help,

I am not sure if you have a misunderstanding as to what a Time Capsule is meant to be for. It is a back-up unit and so I am a little confused when you say you moved files from your computer to the Time Capsule. You should just set it up and then it will back-up everything on your computer from time to time. Then, if a house guest deletes something from the computer, you can simply go and restore it from the Time Capsule. It sounds to me if you are trying to use the Time Capsule as a NAS drive and it is not meant for that purpose.
