New GeForce GTX 670 vs Quadro FX 4800

Had some computer failures, at first I thought my Quadro FX 4800 was dying... but it appears Im going to have to replace my motherboard. horay.
In trouble shooting I bought a GTX 670. (changed the txt file to make it work with Mercury) and now that I need to replace the mobo, I have a feeling the 4800 is ok.
So the question is... if the 4800 is fine... is there a significant jump in performance with the GTX 670? Is it worth the $400

Nick,
I'm late to this thread; just read it for the first time, and I have several observations to share...
1) I tend to agree with Harm and and RjL regarding the GTX being quite a bit stronger; so in your system where this is not evidenced, possibly the video card it is not the "critical path" (or bottleneck) for whatever you are doing (playback, render, etc.). Running Harm and Bill's excellent PPBM5 benchmark can tell you a lot about how the various areas of your system perform and the 800+ system database shows what others are getting from their listed hardware.
2) Premiere Pro is pretty good at taxing all of a PCs resources and "balance" of components is important in order to eek out the best overall performance. I would quickly add another RAID 0 pair to this system if I were you. You can test this theory too by looking at the performance tab in Windows task manager and see if your cpus (all 4 cores and 4 hyperthread cores) are working pretty hard. If they never all running at or very close to 100%, then you have gains to be made by either tweaking the system and/or revising components in your build.
3) You may not even have a motherboard problem; buy or borrow a highy rated 850w or larger power supply and see if that does not clear up whatever woes you are blaming your motherboard on; 650 may not be enough for rendering RED!
Regards,
Jim

Can the GeForce GTX 670MX or the Quadro K1000M support GPU acceleration in premiere pro?

Check the Tech Specs on teh product page. What's not listed is not supported for Mercury, it's as trivial as that. Both cards will still support the more conventional OpenGL acceleration, though.

  • New GPU Issues (Geforce GTX 780ti vs Quadro 4000)

    Hey all,
I recently changes from a Quadro 4000 1gb card to a GTX 780ti 3gb card and am noticing a drop in performance.
Playback is slower and a lot more choppy.
    Rendering is about 50% slower.
Is this normal? Shouldn't I be getting a much better performance?
I've checked everything I can think of. Premiere is reading this GPU and using it.
This happens in CS6 and CC.

The top one is with MB on and the bottom one is with it off. It rendered in under 5 minutes without the plugin on. With the plugin on it was sitting at around 36 minutes remaining and was climbing up instead of down.
The CPU seems to be working a lot hard without the grades on? Strange.

  • MSI Geforce GTX 670 Screen Blinking

    Good time of the day!
Recently bought new videocard MSI N670GTX-PM2D2GD5/OC and recieved upleasent surprises of image glitches after installation. All in different time period. Could be once in half an hour, sometimes they occur once in 4 hours. Glitches looks like blank black screen for a second and then stripes on different parts of the screen. Like an anologue TV signal noise errors. Occur only on main display connected via DVI. Also have TV conneced via HDMI and no problems were noticed there, while both screens were working and main display had those glitches. Tried both DVI outputs - result wasw the same. Had N560 TI before and no problems of that kind were noticed. Using drivers 310.61 BETA.

  • Catastrophic MSI Geforce GTX 670 failure

I bought a 670 about two months ago. I installed it with help from a very PC savvy friend, and the thing ran great for about a week. After a week I started to get random black screens and errors while watching streams or videos. "Display driver has stopped working." Nothing major, but it was concerning. I did a driver sweep and reinstalled, but that didn't help. About a week after that I started crashing to my desktop while gaming. Battlefield 3, Left 4 Dead 2, etc. It was not temperature related. At this point I began to panic.
So I reformatted my PC, remounted the card, checked the plugs... It didn't work. Nothing changed. I consulted google, and some friends, and they came to the conclusion that the next drivers might be the fix, unless I have a faulty card. Well, last night I was playing a little BF3 on medium settings before bed, and the devastation occured. My screen went black, and a noise you never want to hear from your PC blasted in my headphones. I did a hard shut down, and when I restarted, there were green lines and splotches all over my Gigabyte motherboard startup page. My desktop was the same. I restarted again, no change. I did a system restore, no change. I did a driver sweep and reinstalled them, no change. My computer is toast.
I have absolutely no idea what to do. I will put my old card back in today to see what effect that has.

Thanks in advance for any help with the little bit of spec info I've given you. I'm just not very good with computers, and I just sat down for the first time since all of this happened.

I apologize,  I crawled down to look at the back of my PC, and I have a Corsair TXW 650 on this machine. Not Antec. (The box I had in my closet was the antec from my old PC)
I don't have any additional info except what's on the sticker, on the power supply. Sorry.

  • New gtx 670 PE: need help oc'ing while maintaining longevitiy

    Hey everyone,
so i recently picked up a GTX 670 Power edition, and have tinkered around with overclocking it.
so far, i have it at:
    +40 Core voltage
    114% power limit
    +91 Core Clock
    +635 Memory clock
I am currently stable running heaven benchmark and playing battlefield 3, with temperatures topping at 67c
now my question is, how safe is it to run +40mv on the corevoltage for everyday use and how far can voltage be pushed before hurting the card's lifespan. I wish to keep this card running at top shape for atleast 3 years, so im a bit worried about pumping excessive voltage through it.
I'm pretty new to GPU overclocking, but have some experience with cpu overclocking so i know that voltage and electromigration are a concern with cpu overclocking and its lifespan, thus im worried about pushing that core voltage slider too far. Can anyone give some advice?
    Thanks!

You are absolutely safe. You can't set dangerous voltages with Afterburner as long as gpu does not overheat. Your 67°C are very fine. You are 30°C from the max temp of 97°C (http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-670/specifications) so that's brilliant. Right now there is no problem with shortened lifespan in your case.

  • GTX 670 fps drops problem

    Hi,
I have problem with my new graphic card and don't know if it is driver issue or if it is defective graphic card or some other component is bottleneck ? Can you please help me?
    My PC
CPU: AMD Phenom II 1090T 3,2 GHz (is bottleneck?)
MB: ASUS M4N68T updated BIOS few days
GPU: MSI N670GTX-PM2D2GD5/OC installed 301.42 WHQL drivers and also tried older drivers from CD
PSU: Corsair TX650-V2 (is it enough? )
    Case: Coolermaster CM690 Dominator II
    RAM: Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 2x2GB +2x4GB
Monitor: LG W2242SM connected by VGA adapter (playing on 1680x1050)
    My problem is:
In games like battlefield 2, Crysis 2, ArmaII, Alice Madness Returns, Dragon age, Skyrim my fps drops very often.
For example in Battlefield 3 (Gulf of Oman) I start game with 80fps (setting: ULTRA 1680x1050) and after 2 minutes fps drop to about 30-20 or even 17 fps. I first thought it was only big scene with many details but when i stayed in same place about 1 minute it returned to 75fps but scene was still same.
    I tried:
    - Change details to High - even worse , Medium and Low - still remain,
    - Turn off- blur, v-sync - problem still remains
    - turn off anti aliasing - Problem remains
    - in nvidia control panel turn v-sync off and power management set to maximum performence, in windows too
    - re install drivers - clean installation ( i try all drivers available from MSI site and Nvidia too
    - Re install windows (windows 7 professional 64-bit)
    - uninstall MSI afterburner, than install newer one.
I took screenshot from MSI afterburner where you can see huge GPU usage drop in game.
    Thank you for any help

Hi there, Just wondering if anyone had a solution for this? I am having the exact same problem.

Is it a driver fault? should I wait for updates, or has anyone a solution? Help would be much appreciated!

  • GeForce GTX 285

Any scoop on what the new GeForce GTX 285 card will cost in the UK? Will it cost more that the ATI Radeon HD 4870?
What's the advise for gamers using windows in boot camp. Should we patiently wait for the GeForce GTX 285 if the price is right? From the reports and articles it out performs the ATI HD 4870.
Its a shame apple holds it customers to ransom. I use to be a PC user, I miss the easy of upgrading and changing.

I'm afraid not but, it is available in a week or two on the USA website. I think I'll keep an eye on the Barefeats.com site because they usually get onto these things before anybody else. I think the main problem will be - how good are the drivers, especially with the Pro Apps. One has to assume that they have got their act together with this one and that they have also tested it with Snow Leopard(which I shall be testing this weekend!. So here's hopeing :-))

  • No display on GTX 670 PE

I recently bought a MSI 670 to replace my HD 7850, but after installing the 670 I am getting NO display from my card while in the  x16 pcie socket.  I works in the x8 socket and also in a x16 on a older AMD computer.
I have tried everything I can think of, including updating to the latest uefi bios, but still no display.  The fans boot up on the graphics card and there are no error beeps, but the card does not seem to be recognized and the on-board graphics kick in.
I have checked both pcie power plugs and both are fine.  Memory is seated okay and passed mem-test, no bent pins on CPU

  • Monitors connected to GTX 670

I currently got 1 monitor and I'm considering to buy 1 or 2 of same kind. But im wondering how many monitors my N670GTX-PM2D2GD5/OC is able to run with. I also want to know if it is possible to set up a 3840x1080 or a 5760x1080 with this kind of graphic card. Can any one tell me? Im not so sharp about such things, so if anyone could tell me i would be happy

I am just wondering  if you onto http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-670/specifications and look at at the bottom tip 2 it says : NVIDIA 3D Vision Surround require two or more graphics cards in NVIDIA SLI configuration. But as i understand i dont need 1 more graphic card? And also if i choose Single GPU > 3D Surround > i says that : 3D Vision Surround requires using three DVI or three DisplayPort. So im quite confused when you say i can use either of my mentioned configs.
