New GPU Issues (Geforce GTX 780ti vs Quadro 4000)

Hey all,
I recently changes from a Quadro 4000 1gb card to a GTX 780ti 3gb card and am noticing a drop in performance.
Playback is slower and a lot more choppy.
Rendering is about 50% slower.
Is this normal? Shouldn't I be getting a much better performance?
I've checked everything I can think of. Premiere is reading this GPU and using it.
This happens in CS6 and CC.

The top one is with MB on and the bottom one is with it off. It rendered in under 5 minutes without the plugin on. With the plugin on it was sitting at around 36 minutes remaining and was climbing up instead of down.
The CPU seems to be working a lot hard without the grades on? Strange.

Will the GeForce GTX 780ti work with Adobe CC?

That card is not a card that is supported for the GPU acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer.
That said, that is the only feature for which that card is not supported. Unless you care about that feature (which you very likely don't), then that card will work fine.
The GPU is almost entirely irrelevant for After Effects.

That card was not tested with After Effects CS6 (11.0). That card didn't even exist when After Effects CS6 (11.0) was being developed and tested.

Check the Tech Specs on teh product page. What's not listed is not supported for Mercury, it's as trivial as that. Both cards will still support the more conventional OpenGL acceleration, though.

Eine GPU verwenden, die von After Effects unterstützt wird. Eventuell nicht den neuesten Treiber nehmen. Warum werden Treiber so oft aktualisiert? Weil auch mit jeder Version neue Bugs entstehen.

  • New GeForce GTX 670 vs Quadro FX 4800

Had some computer failures, at first I thought my Quadro FX 4800 was dying... but it appears Im going to have to replace my motherboard. horay.
In trouble shooting I bought a GTX 670. (changed the txt file to make it work with Mercury) and now that I need to replace the mobo, I have a feeling the 4800 is ok.
So the question is... if the 4800 is fine... is there a significant jump in performance with the GTX 670? Is it worth the $400

    Nick,
I'm late to this thread; just read it for the first time, and I have several observations to share...
    1) I tend to agree with Harm and and RjL regarding the GTX being quite a bit stronger; so in your system where this is not evidenced, possibly the video card it is not the "critical path" (or bottleneck) for whatever you are doing (playback, render, etc.). Running Harm and Bill's excellent PPBM5 benchmark can tell you a lot about how the various areas of your system perform and the 800+ system database shows what others are getting from their listed hardware.
    2) Premiere Pro is pretty good at taxing all of a PCs resources and "balance" of components is important in order to eek out the best overall performance. I would quickly add another RAID 0 pair to this system if I were you. You can test this theory too by looking at the performance tab in Windows task manager and see if your cpus (all 4 cores and 4 hyperthread cores) are working pretty hard. If they never all running at or very close to 100%, then you have gains to be made by either tweaking the system and/or revising components in your build.
    3) You may not even have a motherboard problem; buy or borrow a highy rated 850w or larger power supply and see if that does not clear up whatever woes you are blaming your motherboard on; 650 may not be enough for rendering RED!

  • MSI GeForce GTX 780Ti Gaming 3G reference board or based on it?

    Hi!
I recently bought this card and have started to OC somewhat. Is this card (780ti Gaming) based on Nvidias reference or if it is the actual reference board? If it's not based on the reference board, will it be able to take more overclocking? From what I've seen on reviews of the card, the VRM's and memory area tends gets really hot (above 100 degrees Celsius when OC'ing). So I would really like to know the maximum temp specification for the VRM's and memory, and also if they can handle that heat 24/7. The GPU on the other hand has never reached above 75 degrees C.
    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards
    Joakim

I updated my signature with my other hardware. I hope my Corsair RM750 is powerfull enough. It has 62.5 A on 12 V rail. I used a calculator a few times to know roughly how much my system would use in wattage, but that is always less. The Windows Index Experience Test did it also over here, but not as loud as in the other things.
I also had GPU-Z running and noticed new things compared to my previous RMA'd card (MSI r9 280x Gaming 3G).
At PerfCap Reason i got VRel, VOp.

  • P7-1058uk, with upgraded PSU. Trying to install a GeForce GTX 780Ti

I have a P7-1058UK system, which I've already upgraded the PSU in to a 700W (branded) unit. Until now I've been running an ASUS Radeon HD 5870, which uses both the 8 PIN and 6PIN aux PCIE connectors from the PSU, and the 16x PCI-E 3.0 slot on the mother board.
Today my new GTX780Ti arrived, which I prompted swapped out.
The system turns on, and the normal BIOS summary page appears (confirming the processor, RAM etc). It then appears to "hang". A single beep is heard after about 15-20 seconds, then a 2nd around 20 seconds later, then I think a final single beep again 20 seconds later. After this there is a "triple" beep, and the monitor goes blank (as if reciving a standby signal), though the PC remains on.
I've done some digging and seem to being pointed to the fact that the UEFI component of the motherboard may not recognise this new card. Is that the case, and if so, what can be done?
    Many thanks, in advance.

Thanks, didn't have secure boot enabled, but did think of that.
The upshot of the situation is that this card is simply not compatable. If you have the EVGA version, there is a glimmer of hope though, as a firmware update has been released that seems to resolve the issue. It is only availible for certain SKUs, so you need to go to evga.com register your product and see if there is an update. To do the update, you'll need ANOTHER MACHINE Though which is already compatable, so it's not an easy path.
In my case, I'm afraid I lost my patience and purchased a new motherboard, as I haev the ASUS 770Ti. Plugged into the new MB it worked first time, without a hitch. So appreciate all the comments about it maybe being the PSU and various other components, as these are the most common faults, but in this case there really is a compatability issue.
Sorry it's not great news to those who have the same problem.

  • New graphic card Geforce gtx 750 ti failing on Hp pavilion H8-1010be

    Hello
So i Got a new gigabyte GV-N75TOC graphic card for my Hp pavilion h8 1010-be. When I boot it up i get the intro blue screen and that's it. i hear a single beep, another after a while and then a series of short beeps and a black screen. The fans are running of my graphic card, I did plug it in. When i reboot with old graphic card all works, so didn't pull anything out by accident. The power is also higher on my pc then needed for the graphic card so this should be fine. I did try uninstalling current graphic card drivers first but this didn't help.  It actualy sounds exactly like this http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware/Problem-installing-a-new-Video-Card-on-HP-Pavilion-HPE...
I was wondering if you could provide me with anymore direct help then talk to producer, which i have sent a tickit to aswell.

  • Enhancing GPU: 2 cards GeForce GTX 770 connected with SLI  or Nvidia Quadro K5000?

Hello, I'm going to start working with video files of 4k raw format (Premiere, After Effects, SpeedGrade, RedGiant plug-ings). Now I have a video card GPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 770, but I was told that game video cards GeFroce have limited  fukntsional when working with video in Premiere. Is it really so? If I change my card to Nvidia Quadro K5000 which has close characteristics, will I get any extra features working in Adobe programms (Premiere, SpeesGrade, After Effect)? Does it make sense in such a substitution? Or is it better to buy a second GTX 770 and put them in SLI? Will Adobe support that?

No, the Geforce cards don't have a limitation with 4K media and the GPU acceleration. The GPU acceleration ie CUDA is not specific to either Geforce or Quadro. The specs of the cards decide the performance. The Geforce Specs are far greater than the Quadro K5000 if you get the 780Ti or the Titan Black Edition. Both cards are cheaper. The only benefit the Quadro card has in regards to Adobe is the 10bit color output option for preview since Adobe is Open GL based for the API. However you can get a Blackmagic 4K studio card with a Titan Black edition and still spend less money than the K5000 while having far better performance. I personally run a E5-2697 V2 12 Core Xeon with a 770GTX 4GB card and I play 4K r3d back at half resolution easily right now. Full resolution for preview with 4K red is simply not possible via any software other than Redcine X Pro right now until the GPU acceleration debayering is available. BTW I would suggest 1 Titan Black edition over 2x 770GTX cards. The scaling across GPU's only works on rendering right now. When the GPU acceleration debayer is available then adding a 2nd Titan card would be far better than having 2x 770GTX cards.
SLI and GPU acceleration are 2 different technologies. SLI is scaling the drawing to the display across more than 1 video card. GPU acceleration is a programming module that send calculations to the GPU for processing that were normally processed by the player via the CPU. GPU acceleration does not require or even use SLI to scale across GPU's. That is managed and scheduled by the application.

    Hi Ken,
Look aon the top back of the graphics card for a switch.  See the below image.
You should have received a pamphlet in the box describing the use of the switch (legacy mode or UEFI mode).  If your PC has a version 8 HP BIOS then disable secure boot if set. If your PC is not at a version 8 BIOS level then the switch should be in legacy position.  The pamphlet should describe the use of the switch.

  • GeForce GTX 780 and Premiere CC 2014 footage issues on Win 8.1

    Hey everyone
I just bought a PC media workstation, having been a Mac guy for 15 years.  As I was installing apps, AU, AE, Cinema4D all worked as expected. But PR literally would chug when playing back almost any footage (in this case mostly my ProRes422HQ from my BMPC). The playhead moved, I heard audio but the picture never changed.  Even the low-quality h264 proxy footage I tested performed like this.
Interestingly, whether I was enabling GPU based editing in Premiere or not, it had no effect whatsoever.
I talked w/ the guys at Mediaworkstations.net and we narrowed it down to what we think is an issue between of graphics card support from Adobe.  I even retro-installed CC and CS6 and both had the same results.  Was hoping someone from Adobe would speak into this and offer some help.
