New GTX 770 freezes/crashes

Just bought a new GTX 770 popped in it and installed the drivers. Before I installed the drivers everything was running smooth. After I installed the latest drivers I keep getting freezes and crashes. Freezes last about 1 minute and then my machine just turns off. I tried previous versions and still getting freezes and crashes.
Running Win 8.1
10 gigs RAM
i5 3570
Rosewill RD700 700w

Not quite throwing down on a PSU. It's almost most important part in the PC (#1 is motherboard) so this could've been a bit better choice.
I suggest you speak to a friend/colleague and ask if you can test your card in their PC (as long as their PSU is of some better brand, or at least known to work with higher end GPU).
At last, I recommend Corsair and Seasonic's power supplies. Proven to work really well. From Corsair CX, RM and AXi series are best in my opinion.
Ah I see. Yeah my current PSU was a gift from a friend and it worked great with my 7850 which I upgraded from. I just meant that I didn't want to buy a whole new PSU if that wasn't the problem. I'll definitely take a look at the ones suggested.
I appreciate the replies.
Here goes nothin.

  • New iMac keeps freezing / crashing

My new iMac, which was absolutely fine for several months after I bought it last Autumn, is getting to the point of being almost unusable.
It freezes / crashes (annoying spinning beachball) doing the most simple of tasks (e.g saving files, in Entourage trying to view emails, in Firefox whilst browsing etc) and it won't even force quit. Most of the time I have to switch the machine off at the back and reboot.
I have downloaded all updates including the most recent April firmware update which I had hoped would improve stability. It was an big improvement for about a day or two before it went back to the same problems.
The model in question is a new style 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 2 GB memory and 500GB Hard drive, running OS Leopard 10.5.2.
I have a Belkin powered USB hub attached which runs an M-Audio Oxygen 8 Midi keyboard and an M-Audio Trigger Finger. I have a Novation Nio 2/4 Audio interface connected to the iMac directly via USB. I also have a Novation Nova connected to the audio interface and a DJ Mixer as well.
    Can anyone help?
    cheers
    tammo

The symptoms you describe are consistent with a failing hard drive. If you bought it a few months ago it's still under warranty, so you should contact AppleCare or take it to your nearest Apple Store for repair.

  • Help needed with my new GTX 770 4GB OC card settings

    Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum so excuse me if this subject already been bought up,
i have recently got the msi twin frozr gtx 770 4gb oc edition, and I'm not happy at all , as the box did not come with a manual on how to get the oc mode active etc,
the software cd that came with it has a gaming app + msi afterburner so i have installed everything, and i open the gaming app, it gives me a silent mode + gameing mode + oc mode, so i click oc mode for example and all it gives me is 1254MHz  so i run afterburner i see that my temps reaches 50c + and i try to control the fan speed of my card but the gaming mode doesn't allow it to adjust to 100 % fan speed , anyway enough said let me go to the main part, i have got the kombustor running and done some tests, i found out that i have been getting low fps with the 1254MHz and my voltage clock is 1.2v ... i used to have a gtx560ti and the gtx770 fps is the same as my old card    this is jokes , now i wished i didn't even buy the gtx770 its expensive for nothing,
and the thing that makes me  is that msi didn't put any info manual in the box apart of how to install your graphics on the motherboard,
by the way my PC specs are:
    I7 4770K @ 4ghz
    16gb corsair ram @ 1600
    TX850 corsair power supply
i have the latest graphics drivers installed , got it from nvidia website (327.23) for the gtx770
by the way the kombuster score i was getting was 190 fps
with physx on, and no anti aliasing,
here's my picture of the clocks I'm getting currently
could anyone out there that have the same card is mine confirm that my card is normal ?
or is there something i need to download or get to make my fps stable as it should be for this card ?
oh and i forgot to tell you that my friend has also recently got this card and is also stuck,
hes got lower mhz than mine and lower voltages like 1.8v or something
I'm sure that theres something that we haven't done to get the best out of this graphics card
its one of the best graphics card out there,
anyway enough of writing up an essay    waiting for someone to help me out
    many thanks in advance
    Regards

the memory clock is right as its GDDR (Graphics Double Data Rate) so it has to be doubled making it 3506 x 2 (3506+3506) total of 7012Mhz (advertised GDDR5 7010MHz Memory)
as for you low FPS its more then likely a driver problem as nearly all GTX 770's are having issues and reporting low FPS you could try other drivers from Nvidia's like the lower ones or the newer Beta Driver 331.40 and see if it makes any difference!

  • New GTX 770 in existing system won't boot

So I thought I upgrade my PC with a brand new MSI GTX770. The system just won't start. Screen shows B2 in lower right hand corner and a solid cursor upper right. After a while the cursor starts blinking and B2 dissapears. Still a black screen. No possibility to enter bios, no bleeping, all fans are spinning.
When I put back in my good old MSI GTX580 all is fine again.
I am an advanced (MSI) user but never ever experienced this before. Highly frustrating and surely no plug and play experience. What to do? Underneath you'll find my systems components:
OS: Microsoft Windows7 64bit Home Premium Gold (SP1)
SSD (boot): Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB

PS: I did not manage to find a similar problem on this forum let alone a solution to it. I tried BIOS A vs BIOS B to no avail. Somewhere else I read I may have to flesh the new cards BIOS but how to do so if I cannot even get it to work?
    Any help is welcome!

Today I received the following I was like really???!!!!
    "Dear Sir/Madam,
Thanks for contacting MSI Technical Support Team!
Regarding your concern, there are many possibilities on why the system could
not boot up. Therefore, would you kindly please refer to the suggestions below to
    troubleshoot the issue?
    1) Unplug all the components and devices on the MB, and then reinstall the CPU,
RAM (one piece), VGA card and power supply only. Please add some thermal
gel on the CPU, and then reinstall the CPU fan correctly and tightly.
    2) Clear CMOS (How to clear CMOS, you could refer to the manual), and then
enter bios to Load Optimized Defaults->Save & Exit.
    3) Try to boot up the minimum system. If it still cannot boot up, please change
    another more powerful power supply for a try;
    4) If the problem still persists, please change another RAM with different brand to
    try.
    5) Please confirm the processor installed is compatible with the MB as well as
    the BIOS.
    6) If these attempts above does not work, we have to suggest you contact your reseller (The place you bought this MB from) and have them test the MB completely for you to check if this MB is faulty or not, then ask for some help.
If the reseller for some reason can not help, you could try to contact MSI distributor from below http://www.msi.com/service/wheretobuy/ near your place or MSI office from below http://www.msi.com/about/contact-us/
    Best wishes,
    MSI Technical Support Team!"
So adding a MSI card to my MSI Board mean I have to brake down all of my system, even remove my CPU (running fine) and buy some thermal gel. And while I am in the store buy a more powerful powersupply (mine already meets the specs) and/or ask my reseller to help me out checking if my motherboard (working fine) is faulty?
Well I just RMA'd my 770. So much for plug and play; even MSI parts are not compatible. A real bummer.

  • MSI GTX 770 OC

    Hellloo,
So I just got a new GTX 770 MSI Twin Frozr IV OC edition card and I'm curious about the 'MSI Gaming app' that can be used to overclock it.
I'm using the 'gaming' setting which takes the core clock from 1084 MHz to 1176 MHz, but I'd rather do this through MSI afterburner because it loads on startup and is less of a hassle.
My question is, does this 'gaming' setting on the gaming app change the voltage at all or does it just boost up the core clock? I guess it would need more voltage for a 92 MHz boost? And if so is there any way of telling how much the gaming app is increasing the voltage because it seems very stable...
    Thanks
EDIT: After monitoring and running Heaven benchmark it seems the card runs at 1176 MHz even without the app which I am perfectly happy with. Ignore this topic

Use the attached, it is the latest UEFI vbios. Might be that helps
Decompress the provided .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Then flash the vbios file with Nvflash for dos: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/nvflash_download.html
To do so rename the included file to .rom and create a dos bootstick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0)
Put nvflash and the vbios file on it and boot from the stick. Then type nvflash -4 -5 -6 gop.rom (if renamed vbios that way) and hit enter. Confirm the questions and let the tool flash.

Thx in advance ( im french sory for bad english )
    This question was solved.

I have the same mobo as you. What version number are you on bios wise? I have 7.12 As for your friend. HP does do frequent hardware revisions. Especially with their mobo's. So, he could essentially have a different version than both of us. Try to grab some info if you can using CPUZ and post results for mobo. Here are mine. Pay close attention to the model # and compare his with yours. Another thought. Depending on gpu brand and the bios they use. They might be more legacy bios friendly along with full UEFI support as well.
Some might only support full UEFI. Let me give you an example. I have a EVGA Superclocked GTX 660. They released a bios update for the card to support full UEFI. I flashed it and guess what? My PC would not boot up any more. Not compatible with the newer video bios. Thankfully before flashing. Since I had a bad feeling about it. I backed up my previous original bios and was able to restore them using another pc. Then putting it back in my pc. Booted up fine and works perfect again.
I am also curious. What might be the exact GTX 780 your friend is running? Brand and model wise.

Sorry about that. My board is supposedly more than capable of running this card. I don't understand why it would be the mobo. I also wasn't looking to build another computer =P Just upgrade on the current one. Guess I should return it?
First of all it's worth in testing in some newer computer with Ivy/Sandy Bridge or Haswell. Without this, you can't tell if it's bad GPU or compatibility issue.
However if it's compatibility, I'd return this card and go for 5 or 6 series.

  • GTX 770 Lightning vBios recovery and other questions

Hey I was just wondering, is 70C too hot becau- Just kidding.  Haha, gotcha.
Actual Question: I was messing about flashing higher and higher power/memory/clock settings and I went too high. Just as I get to the betta fish loading logo (I'm using the 8.1 preview) the screen goes black but does not sleep and I'm stuck there. So now I get to use the LN2 switch to boot, (I JUST researched LN2 and realized what I've been missing) but how do I flash a Normal mode vbios when I can only run in LN2 mode?
Also, just to be 100% safe: A UEFI/GOP vBios is backward compatible with a legacy MB right? I want to make sure I have a vbios to boot with. MY actual computer is an obnoxious Inspiron 546 from 2009... yea. I'm just borrowing this rig. The 770 is MINE though.
Another issue I cannot understand is that whenever I reach 99% GPU usage under ANY (Normal) vBios settings in ANY game with ANY driver the game freezes and crashes and MSI afterburner occasionally reports something crazy like 90129374% Power in a spike. I was actually trying to work around that by overclocking so much I'd never reach 99% GPU usage, but it still spikes for a split second and crashes me.
Finally, I'm highly curious about this vbios entry on techpowerup http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/141424/msi-gtx770-2048-130605.html The other two MSI GTX770 Lightning vbios's on this page http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/index.php?manufacturer=MSI&model=GTX+770 are the Normal and LN2 vbios's as it states at the bottom, but that third one says nothing on the bottom, and to further increase curiosity the version number has a more significant change in it. Has something been updated?
Oooh yes, one last thing. I've think I might have come across a bug in Svets vBios Tuner (2.49h). I can't set any P*state  higher than 2040 because I get a 'wrong parameter' error with anything above that. I used Kepler Bios Tweaker 1.25 to set it to 2104 and that worked, but appears as 4 in both Kepler Bios tweaker and Svets Tuner after that.
I know this is a lot of questions at once here, but I tend to save 'em up for a while. Thank you in advance. -Eli

but how do I flash a Normal mode vbios when I can only run in LN2 mode?
If you have a non-nvidia vga left you can install it besides the lightning and use it for primary display. Then just use nvflash as usual to reflash a normal vbios (of course card needs to be switched to normal) and it will flash the nvidia adapter it finds (the Lightning). If you only have another Nvidia card left you'd have to identify the adapters name you want to flash (type nvflash --list and all adapters are listed). If then wanting to flash add the adapter name before the file to flash, e.g.: nvflash i1 vbios.rom (assuming i1 is the Lightning's name and vbios.rom is the name of the file to flash). Nvflash will then just flash the Lightning.
If you have no other vga you are out of luck. A PC-Shop can recover it for you.

Also, just to be 100% safe: A UEFI/GOP vBios is backward compatible with a legacy MB right?
If the board is really legacy bios (no UEFI at all) then theoretically yes. Of course the board needs to be compatible to the latest GTX770 series cards. Old mainboards might run into compatibility issues apart from the vbios.

I was actually trying to work around that by overclocking so much I'd never reach 99% GPU usage, but it still spikes for a split second and crashes me.
Then your card is for whatever reason not stable (e.g. insufficient power supply, software issue, too much cpu overclock or simply the card not making factory settings - rma issue -).

Don't download vbioses from third party sites. The uploaders mostly have no clue of these files themselves. There is nothing newer than you got from Svet. Don't experiment.

  • Issue with Power management MSI Gforce GTX 770

    Hello,
I contact you since I have bought one month ago a GForce GTX 770
I do not have the serial Number but could havez a look at it quickly if needed
I have since the beginning recurrent issues with the graphic cards and require support.
    System Windows 7 64 bits
Last official Pilots up to date 335.23
I also tryed the provided drivers 331.21 (9.18.13.3182 more precisely)
    Issue
When the graphic cards is reauired high demands (in case of high GPU demand for games) the nvidia driver is crashing (nvlddmkm.sys). Sometimes windows recovers, sometimes not, the system is fully dead and only windows restore function could help restarting the system and restore stable driver set.

Impossible to play games such as Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls without having a crash every 5-15 min...
Impossible to run 3Dmark tests until the end. It somehow crashes sooner or later.
In low charge the driver never crash.
    Tests I did
Based on this new computer (everything is new into it)
    - Power supply seems to be the cause, thus i tested a more powerful one (520w to 700w) same result
    - i changed the card of PCI express plug on the mother board which did not do anything
    - I reinstalled fully win 7 and did the minimum installs such as antivirus and graphic drivers from nvidia. same result
    - I updated Power supply windows settings to high performance in order to disable auto adaptative voltage from the system. same result
    - I updated as well power supply nvidia option to best performances which did not solved the issue as well.
Tests I did not do, since they are intrusive
Update the Bios ? did not know if you have a more recent one
    My bios version is NV282MS.3A0
    Downclock the graphic card
I will soon extract the card to put it in another computer to validate that this the card[SLASH]pilot that is having issue:
What should I do to have a clear evidence of the issue which could be either the card itself, of the bios which does not manage properly the power consumption ?? How can I send you useful logs ? Is there is a diagnostic tool to provide you with better data to dig in ?
I am stucked and unable to use properly this nez configuration ...
Thanks in advance for your help
    best regards

    1 Old Computer with GTX770
Crash reproduced after a full 3D Mark
My idea is that the computer itself is old and do not ask so much the GPU to work. Hard to reach the full power requirement. It has also a small 1280x1024 screen. But problem finally reproduced... so Issue lies in the Graphic Card
2 New computer with old Radeon
3D Mark fully launched multiple time without any crash
Another hint saying Graphic Card has issue.
    Now a few questions :
    - Does the NVidia Bios flash changes the guarantee on it ? I mean the CG is new, I do not want to lose the guarantee.
Thanks a lot for your time.

  • HD4870 - freeze- crash + fan acceleration

    Hi Everybody,
I have a mac pro early 2009 (4.1), which have all its originals components.
    I have the following problem:
When i launch a game (ex: starcraft2, rust...etc ), the hd4870 fan briefly accelerate to 100%, and then the screen freeze , and i have no option but reset by holding the power button ...
    Precision:
When i launch the game with all the graphics parameters to 'low', it doesn't crash (i can't even hear the gpu fan, the card seems to be idle), but when i put the graphic level to 'medium', instantly the fan accelerate for a sec (and calm down right after) and the screen freeze ...
I remember that i used to run sc2 in 'high' settings with no trouble...
So i wonder if my card is dead... ?
PS: My hd4870 - 512 is on the slot 2.
Thanks for your future answers !
    Greg

    Ok thanks for your answer
I allready cleaned up the whole card,
I'm testing the card ingame a this moment, and it seems that only certain parameters make the freeze+crash happen (like antialiasing, shaders .. etc), in high res setting (without shadders and AA), the fan is still idle and the game run without trouble... but when i put the AA, it crash instantly instead of being ' laggy '...
    Weird problem...
As you said i shoud probably buy a new one and thanks for the gtx 650 ref !
And yes i've heard about those cards which works on the mac only if you 'reflash' it... i'm not pro with this kind of operation.. i'll choose one wich works 'out of the box'
    thx again
    Greg

  • GTx 770 twin frozr low FPS

Hello. I already made a post about this some time ago, and it came out that my PSU was too low wich gave me low fps in the newer titles, today i got a new PSU - corsair cx750M and i still get the same problem.. i tried games like evolve (i know its alpha but my friend runs it at highest with gtx 660), watch dogs (same i know its not evry well optimised but the fps drops from 50 to 1 randomly same with evolve) im pretty sure that PSU is above what i need  .
    specs -
GPU - GTX 770 msi twin frozr 2gb factory OC
    CPU - i7 4790k
    PSU - CX750M
    RAM - 2x4gb
    MOBO - msi z97 gaming 3

i got the same  issue than you (also the exact same psu)
ram not a problem (gskill sniper cl9 1866 mhz 4x8gb 32 in total) all tested and no problem
curent cpu: phenom II x6 1090t 3.2 (will receive in the next day my new fx-8370 4.3 ghz 8 core )
OS on ssd 128 gb (windows 7 64bit ultimate)
game on 4TB drive (wd black)
also a 1tb drive (wd black) for pro music software (samplitude pro suite ominsphere komplete9 ultimate...)
a 2tb for back up (wd green)
    motherboard: ASUS M5A99X EVO
GPU: MSI N770 TF 4GB OC
(g19s keyboard and g9500 mouse all logitec...i also notice that closing logitec gaming app reduse stutter and lag a lil bit...)
m-audio fast track pro sound card (it is not the problem since i got this issue before i install it)
all temp are ok (current cpu water cooled)
i have also lots of stuttering in most games and a freeze of ~8-10 sec in company of heroes online and offline)
also got all lastest driver with clean install (nvidia 344.75)
and since i really dont want to formatted and reinstall windows cuz just reinstalling all my pro music software take a 4-5 days at least and have the risk to f*** my current music session!!!
btw is the unigine result (extreme HD) fps: 42.5 Score: 1778 min FPS: 15.8 Max FPS: 82.4

  • Gtx 770 upgrade

Okay if anyone can give me an idea of what is going on with my pc, I just got a GTX 770(from a HD 7770) and a new PSU Cosair TX650M I'm running a HPE H9 1180 i7 3770 12 gigs of ram and now sure what other specs are needed to diagnose this problem.
I get 3 beeps and it hangs at my hp screen when I try to get to my bios it doesn't let me get anywhere but the boot menu and it freezes there. I've disabled Uefi and enabled legacy. I've uninstalled the AMD drivers or so I think before installing. I didn't realize the computer has onboard graphics as well but I don't see the driver anywhere to disable it. I've tried drive sweeper for getting rid of the amd drivers.
Now this is what I don't understand really, once I get my pc to boot into windows after i keep hitting the num lock key once its in the boot menu it boots up windows and the GTX 770 is recoginized I even installed nvida drivers and played a game and launched a benchmark of ffxiv. I don't think its the issue of the card not being seated but it works or at least I think so any ideas guys I am really stumped. I may try a fresh install
