New Hard Disk for Powerbook 12" 133 MHz

Hi all,
as this model takes a 60 GB Ultra ATA/100 hard drive
my question is, could I put a Western Digital 250GB 2.5" PATA drive in?
i.e. are these newer drives ahh..... backwards compatible?
And will the computer be able to use this drive?
What about a Samsung 250GB 5400rpm 2.5" Serial ATA ?
Cheers
Mark

EyeFilm:
Your computer will support a 2.5" (P)ATA/IDE drive as BGreg posted.
could I put a Western Digital 250GB 2.5" PATA drive in?
Yes. You can.
are these newer drives ahh..... backwards compatible?
Yes, then are.
And will the computer be able to use this drive?
Your computer will run the drive very well.
What about a Samsung 250GB 5400rpm 2.5" Serial ATA ?
No.
Here is a list of HDDs your computer will support. You can screen for capacity and manufacturer on the sidebar. When you find a drive in which you are interested click on Compare Prices to find the best buy.
Good luck.

  • Where could I buy a new hard disk for my macbook pro 15''(MB986CH/A)

Does anyone know where I could buy a new hard disk for my macbook pro 15''(MB986CH/A) (mid 2009)? The hard drives sold in Apple Store are not for macbook pro... Thanks a lot!

At one time Apple use to put an Apple firmware on the drives installed into Mac computer. That is not the case anymore. And even if they did that firmware was just to indentify the drive as an Apple drive. Those same drives would work in any computer and any drive would work in a Mac computer. Same is true today. There are NO Apple Mac drives. Apple uses the exact same drives as any other computer.
Apple uses the exact same hardware as all other computers. Same CPU, GPU, RAM, Drives, DVD drives you name it, it is the same as any PC.
Good Luck but just because you go to a Mac-centric store doesn't mean it is any different then what you would buy some place else, other then it may cost more from one of those Mac-centric places.

  • New hard disk for HP Pavilion All-in-One MS228sc

I need to get af new hard disk drive for my HP Pavilion All-in-One MS228sc. I have great difficulties in getting in touch with HP denmark since my product is out of waranty.
My questions is if the PC can handle a disk larger than my current on on 500 GB. Further more I am not sure about other potential limits the PC could have ini regards to speed and other parameters on a new disk drive
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

As your computer is out of warranty, please purchase a 500GB - 2TB 3.5" SATA2 or 3 hard drive from an online or local retailer. If the new drive is an AF (Advanced Format) drive, you may have issues using the HP Recovery Media you created or purchased.
If this is the case and you can still read the 25-digit Windows product key on the Microsoft COA affixed to your computer, you can install Windows 7 using this key. Please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" for instructions on how to download Windows 7, create the installation media, and install Windows 7 using the 25-digit product key from the Microsoft COA on your computer. This method will not install any HP customizations or value-added software and you will have to manually install all needed drivers.
Links to Windows 7 SP1 can be found HERE and HERE. (Download the Windows 7)
Direct link to Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. (Use to create the media from the ISO)

  • Need to install clean OS on new hard disk for MacBook air

I have just installed a new hard disk on my MacBook air. How do I format and install OS?
    What OS to install?
    How to format?
The origin hard disk is dead!

    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

  • New hard disk for a Wallstreet powerbook

I have a Powerbook G3 Wallstreet M4753 which runs a 233MHz processor and 256Mb of RAM. Currently it has a 2 GB hard disk running Mac OS 8.1. I would like to fit a 20GB hard disk that can run on OSX. I have tried before but cannot get the machine to work with a new disk, I have heard something about “blessing” the disk. Please can someone help by telling me the exact way of installing the new larger disk and how to get OSX loaded.

    Stephen:
Your WallSteet will support a 2.5" ATA/IDE HDD up to 120 GB, like one of these at OWC. To install, follow the step by step directions at http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/PowerBook-G3-Wallstreet/HD-Replacement/3/4/. Once installed, you will need to boot from the install disk and format the HDD Mac OS Extended (HFS+). You should then be able to install your OS.
Are you planning to install OS 9 or a version of OS X? You WallStreet will natively support Jaguar (OS X 10.2.8). With a 233 processor I wouldn't attempt anything later. If you have OS 9 install disk here are directions for formatting and installing:
    Format and Install OS 9
This process will completely erase everything on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure to Backup your User Folder and all third party apps you can't afford to lose
    1. Boot from your OS 9 install CD holding down C key.
    2. Go to Drive Setup and reformat your drive as Mac OS Extended (HFS+)
    2. Reinstall OS 9
    3. Update to 9.2.2: Mac OS 9: Available Updates
    4. Update your firmware
If you are planning to install Jaguar, you can then install it over OS 9 or post back for directions.
Please do post back with further questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • Recommended ext hard disk for Powerbook G4 12in. 1.5gz

    Any suggestions?

If you want to be able to boot your system from the external hard drive, recommend a firewire drive. It might have USB connections also, however, to boot you a Powerbook, you need a firewire connection. Also, a firewire connection will provide electrical power to run an external drive that doesn't have a plug-in power adapter. USB, on Powerbooks, doesn't put out enough juice to power many external hard drives, so if you have a USB-only external hard drive, you may have to buy a power adapter for it, or use a powered USB hub. There's also a funky cable that plugs into both USB ports.

Yours is a very advanced laptop. It supports RAID in the BIOS. How do you have the hard drive configured in the BIOS?
    Here is the RAID manual:
    RAID manual
I am assuming you have one 2.5 inch 1TB WD Velociraptor hdd installed in the laptop. You should have the SATA interface set to AHCI (see page 14). If you already have it set that way then there is some other problem we need to figure out.

  • Add new hard disk

    Hello everyone!
Our server is running out storage space, so we are planning to install new hard disks. Please let us know how to set up
    Thank you
    Best Regards

For what we are going to do is that we try to run the client export with t-code SCC8, since the system respond Runtime Errors
         Short text
No more storage space  available for extending an internal table.
         What happened :
You attempted to extend an internal table, but the required space was not available.
So, we try to add new hard disk for this. By the way, our system is windows 2008, with oracle database.

  • New hard disk after time machine restore doesn't boot, NEED HELP

    Hi,
I just bought a new hard disk for my computer and it works fine if you just install the OS X, but every time I do a restore from my time machine I received a screen after the boot that tells the following:
"You need to restart your computer, hold on the power button until it turns off, then press the power button again."
This message appears in many languages, I do the restart and the same message comes again every time.
I already tried the disk utility when I boot with the OS X DVD and says that the disk is ok. I also tried a PRAM reset.
The result is the same message.
Does any body knows what I am doing wrong or why is this happens?
    thanks for any help

This is a kernel panic. They are often, but not exclusively, hardware related. Some reading for you:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1392
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
If this only happens after a full restore from TM, that might suggest something you are copying back over is causing the problem. You may want to ask in the Snow Leopard TM forums about how to identify the culprit, or do a partial restore that might skip the system files likely to cause a panic:

    Good luck!

The new HD is a WD My Passport Edge 500 GB capacity
5 hours to do 6 GB of transfer is NOT normal, even for USB 2.0 so there's something wrong here. I'd say cancel it, wipe the drive and then test the integrity of the drive. Do some file transfers over to and see if it's behaving normally. It could be a bad USB cable, it could be a bad drive or bad enclosure. As it's new, I suspect you haven't really put it through its paces yet and it's important to do that first before commissioning it to serve as your "reliable backup."

  • NEED HELP, old hard disk failed, new hard disk not detected.

My hard disk died, not working, not detected when I restart with the MacOS X DVD and attempt to reinstall.
I have bought a new hard drive, 160 GB ATA - IDE Samsung drive, and carefully replaced it following service manual instructions. All connectors have been carfully but firmly reconnected, and the new hard disk is not detected.
What can i do?? where is the problem??
Thank you very much for your help.

Do you know that the new hard drive is working? As it's new chances are it is, just asking .... do you know it's powering up? If you replug the old not working hard drive in, is it recognized? (this is where you don't put the computer back together, but just replace the hard drive and sort of close it back up, but don't use any bolts close the case). Plus you can feel or clearly hear if the drive is starting up or not.

  • New hard disk not detected on openboot

    hello guys,
would like to request help if there are any settings i need to enable for a netra t1 to detect the new hard disks that were added on a dell disk array. the netra t1 is able to detect scsi hds 1-3 but not the 8-11. have checked netra t1 manual and it says that it supports both narrow and wide scsi. probe scsi only shows the following disks:
    /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/scsi@2
    Target 0
    Unit 0 Disk SEAGATE ST318404LSUN18G 8590
    Target 1
    Unit 0 Disk SEAGATE ST318406LC 8A03
    Target 2
    Unit 0 Disk SEAGATE ST318406LC 8A03
    Target 3
    Unit 0 Disk SEAGATE ST318406LC 8A03
the new disks are of the same model. any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
the netra t1 is able to detect scsi hds 1-3 but not the 8-11.
    /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/scsi@2
    Target 0
    Unit 0 Disk SEAGATE ST318404LSUN18G 8590
    Target 1
    Unit 0 Disk SEAGATE ST318406LC 8A03
    Target 2
    Unit 0 Disk SEAGATE ST318406LC 8A03
    Target 3
    Unit 0 Disk SEAGATE ST318406LC 8A03
This is an incomplete output of probe-scsi. Which of these disks are internal (maybe only ID 0?) ?
Set auto-boot? to FALSE at the ok-prompt. Temporarily insert one of the new disks in the slot of one of the detected disks (e.g. ID3). Is the disk now detected at the OBP ? If it is, there is something wrong with the external chassis.
I assumed that this is a Netra T1 AC200/DC200 with only a single channel SCSI controller.

  • New hard disk not detected when plugged into SUN FIRE X4150

    Hi
We have a server currently set up as RAID-1. There's a need to have additional space for operational needs so an additional 300GB hard disk was acquired and need not be in RAID-1 setup. It was plugged into the server and the server seems to hang i.e. remote sessions terminated, cannot be ping.
Server was powered down, and after removing the hard disk, powered up. Everything is ok again.
We then powered down the server, plugged in the hard disk, and powered it up. Server boot up into the OS ok but the new hard disk did not get detected.
    My questions are:-
    1. Is it possible to add a 3rd hard disk in a RAID-1 server?
    2. If yes, what are we doing wrong or missed?
    3. If it not possible, does it mean in a RAID-1 setup, any additional hard disk to be added MUST also be RAID-1 configured?

    Hi.
This server can be ordered with LSI RAID controller or with Adaptec RAID controller.
They are required different steps for configure disks.
Adaptec RAID controller require first create volume at BIOS level RAID configuration menu.
