New Hard Drive - How to re-download previously purchased songs?

I have an iTunes account. My son and I have purchased songs thru the same account. I have my songs in iTunes in my mac desktop. He has his songs in his iPod.
My desktop's hard drive recently died and had to be replaced. I had all my songs backed up so no problem there.
But my son did not have all his songs in his iPod.
When I go to the iTunes store I see all the songs we have purchased but I can't figure out how to download them again to the new hard drive.
Any help is appreciated.
  Mac OS X (10.3.9)

See this -> iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
Go here -> http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/lostmusic/
and send an email to Apple.
They have been known to allow users, on a case by case basis, to re-download songs ONE TIME.
If they do allow this, make sure to back up any purchases immediately.
Also, if the songs are on an iPod, they can be taken off the iPod back onto the computer.

  • New Hard Drive - How do I upload my Ipod songs?

I need help know what to do in this situation. My laptop crashed and I have installed a new hard drive and now I am trying to get all the music on my IPOD back into my library without having to add all the music again. Please let me know what I have to do.
    thanks.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • My computer's hard drive crashed and now that its fixed I want to download previously purchased songs from Itunes

My computer's hard drive crashed and now that its fixed (my computer) I want to download previously purchased songs from Itunes.  When I'm signed into Itunes and attempt to download from the cloud a text box pops up saying "I need to authorize the computer before I can download previous purchases".  I'm using the same computer that I purchased all previous songs.  So how do I authorize my computer?

    On your Computer...
    Open iTunes...
If you're using iTunes 11 click on the box icon in the top-left corner to see the " Show Menu Bar "
and from the Menu Bar select Store...
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.
(In earlier versions of iTunes, access this option from the Advanced menu).
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.
    See Here for full details...

Lost my hard drive and also an Ipad, but have 7 k photos on a Touch that I need to load on fixed IMAC with a new hard drive, how do I do it. (There were more photos than the 7k, but they were saved on other drives, thank goodness).  7K pohotos on the Touch are no where else, must be saved!  Just never went from a Touch to iMac.  I have the cable hooked up and then what, I don't want to mess up,my last chance to save 7k pics!  New Aperture and IPhoto on IMAC with no other photos loaded on the new hard drive yet.

I'd ask in the iTouch forum where there are more iTouch users there than here and they should know how to off load the photos.  It might take a 3rd party app.

Depends on where you got it - if it came on yoru compujter then you need to have accepeted it in the App store - and it will be in your purchases when you log in with the Apple ID that you used to set up your computer - it mahy be hidden - if you do not find it unhide applications in teh App store

  • How do i download previous purchases to my new computer. my old computer crashed and i lost my itunes library

how do i download previous purchases to my new computer. my old computer

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases
If you are in the U.S. you can use the cloud:

How do I download previously purchased albums from iTunes when the album has either disappeared from my computer or the tunes are not playable?  The albums show as purchased on the iTunes store, but not available to download to my authorized device.  I also have albums that appear in my library, but are not able to be added to my iPod from my computer

When you download something from the iCloud, it is a brand new licensed copy. Your iCloud account just contains a notation that you have this app. It isn't storing an actual copy of the app from your Mac.

How can I re-download previously purchased songs from itunes?

You only get one download.  It is your responsibility to backup your purchases.
UNLESS, you are in the U.S, then you can use the Beta version of icloud.  Open itunes store, click Purchased, under Quick links

does it cost to download previously purchased songs/vides from I Phone onto I Pad 3?

It depends on where you live. You should be able to download virtually everything again for free if you live in the U.S except for some movies, audiobooks and extra iTunes content with movies.
This explains how you can download again for free. You must be using the same Apple ID that you bought the content with as well.

  • HT201272 Is there a limit on downloading previously purchased songs?

Is there a limit on downloading previously purchased songs?

I think what the message is saying is that if you download past purchases for that account then you will be tying the Mac to that account for 90 days - I was thinking that it was saying that it's already associated with an account, not that you are about to associate it. If you don't want that to happen (which if it's your only account then it shouldn't be an issue), then you should be able to copy the content from your other Mac to it via, for example, home sharing : copying content between computers.

  • Re-downloading previously purchased songs on a different computer

Hi, I'm wondering if there is any way that you can download previously purchased songs on to a different computer to the one you purchased them on.

Transfer the song files from one computer to the other manually, and then drag them into the open iTunes window. Except for applications, one purchase only entitles you to one download; if you don't have the files at all, fill out and submit this form.
