New Hard Drive- Ipod not recognized anymore

I just have a quick question about my new nano so if anyone has any idea then that would be a big help.
My MacBook was having problems last week and I had to have a new Hard Drive installed in it. Now none of my programs are set up anymore and nothing is installed. My ipod doesn't have an installation disk with it and the first time I plugged it into my computer I registered it, named it and put songs on it. Now when I plug it into my computer with the new hard drive it says that i cannot move or copy songs onto it because I am not authorized on this computer. Anyone have idea idea what I could do? I have the case with the serial number still if that will do anything but I've been having a lot of problems this week because nothing is installed anymore on my computer. Thanks!

You don't need a disc you just need to download and install the latest iTunes: Get the latest iPod software updates.

Have you reauthorised your computer since you installed the new hard drive? If your system crashes or you reinstall your operating system without deauthorising iTunes first, you lock out one of your 5 authorisations. If you haven't already done so, you need to authorise you computer again to play your purchases: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

New hard drive is not recognized by my MacBook Pro. The supplier says I need to update my BIOS. True? How do I do that?

Mac OS: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

I went through a similar issue with a Seagate Momentus 750GB HDD/8GB SSD with my late-2011 MBP.  No matter what I tried, the machine would not recognize the drive.
To test it, I installed the drive in an old ThinkPad, and it worked fine.  Then I tried installing it in my PS3, and the drive worked fine there, too.  It was only the MBP which had issues.
I don't *think* Macs have a BIOS to update.  But I know my MBP has issues with certain HDD's (including another external which works fine on other Macs and all Windows machines).
You might be able to find my thread by searching under my username, perhaps something in there will offer a tip.  Otherwise, you might have to go the same route I did: install a WD Scorpio Black instead.  Or upgrade to an SSD.
    Good luck to you-

  • External hard drive is not recognized anymore

For a couple of months i have been backing up my stuff on an external hard drive (Verbatim) no probs.
Last time I didn't close the external hard drive down properly. Now my Macbook does not recognize the external HD any more.
I have tested the external HD on other PC and it still works fine.
How can I change my settings or do something else to have my Macbook recognize is it again.
    Thanks!

Whenever an external drive is disconnected without first being ejected or dismounted, file system corruption is a very real, perhaps even likely, possibility. If that has happened you might try repairing it with Disk Warrior:http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/

  • New hard drive in, not recognized when boot from DVD

Well, I installed my new Seagate ST3750640AS, 750 GB Baracuda and when I boot from the Tiger install DVD, there is no Hard Drive listed. What could have gone wrong. I have an early model G5 iMac.

Are you sure the cable is connected? Look at the [DIY|http://www.apple.com/support/manuals/imac> for replacing your drive and see if there's anything you may have missed.

I have a macbook 2006 its hard drive was not working anymore so i install a new 500GB hard drive but now i just need the software. Which one should i buy?

    Snow Leopard 10.6 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
You can buy Snow Leopard at:
Snow Leopard disc source - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
You could contact Apple Support and see if they have the original discs for that machine but it would be 10.4.11 and there's no reason not to go to at least Snow Leopard, especially since the 10.6 discs would probably cost the same as a replacement set of 10.4.11

  • New hard drive does not get recognized by OS X server 10.6

Xserve disk utility does no see the new HD. It is not HD issue as I have tested drive in other carrier, switched drive in different bays, booted from Xserve 10.6 dvd and 10.6 Server image in our net boot. Drive is not seen by disk utility. Even put in an Apple original (Mac Pro) HD. We have verified that. memory, HDD carrier and HD Bay are not defective.

Thanks John for the reply. I tried different new hard drives as well as a HD from Mac Pro server.I did try drive in different bays. Other 2 drives in the Xserve are recognized in all bays.I even switced HD carrier. Nothing seems to work. I found the following notes in the Xserve manual. I could not fully understand that. May be you can help me understand this.
Xserve (Late 2006) includes three hard drive bays on the front panel. Hard drives come as
modules, known as Apple drive modules (ADMs), attached to carriers; they are removed from or
installed in the Xserve as a unit. ADMs have been available from Apple in various capacities for
all Xserve and Xserve RAID models, and in multiple interface types. Xserve G4 and Xserve RAID
use parallel ATA (PATA) ADMs, and Xserve G5 uses serial ATA (SATA) ADMs. Xserve (Late 2006) can
use SATA ADMs, and ADMs with a new, third interface type known as serial attached SCSI (SAS).
It is important to understand ADM forward compatibility and backward compatibility with older
Xserve models, since some combinations of ADM and Xserve or RAID work properly while other
combinations do not. The following table summarizes this compatibility.

  • New Internal 1 TB hard drive is not recognized by OSX 10.5 Install

My iMac G5 iSight was not booting up. I brought it to the apple store and they diagnosed that it needed a new hard drive. Decided to DIY and save $350. Bought a Hitachi SATA 3.5" 1 TB hard drive. Installation was not too difficult. It took several attempts to format, then installed OSX. Now just a gray screen and fan comes on at start up. When I run the utilities program on the install disk the hard drive does not appear in list for formatting or for target drive for OSX installation. However the disk shows up under system profiler SATA drive. I did not see any jumpers on this drive or the drive I removed. I also removed the 1 GB ram extension because I was getting kernal panic when trying to install the OS. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

The iSight models are NOT user repairable except for RAM installation. You will need to take your computer to an Apple Store or an AASP for the proper HD installation.

  • Moved library to new hard drive, iPod no longer communicates

Ok, I am computer savy but know next to nothing about iTunes as I don't use it, but my wife does use it. However, my wife is not computer savy.
My wife's old hard drive started dying (on a Dell laptop), so we bought a new one and moved all her files over. However, she now has 2 problems:
    (1) She cannot use any of the old music files. I read around online, and I have discovered that we need to consolidate the old files from the old HD into a flash drive using the iTunes consolidate library function. Then they can be imported to the new library on the new computer. This is doable as the old drive is not yet completely dead.
    (2) However, she has since purchased/downloaded new songs out of the iTunes store onto the new HD, and thus I need to keep the new HD's library intact or we'll lose the files. *Now the big problem: her iPod will not connect to the new iTunes library.* I assume this is because iPods sync with a particular library, not a particular computer, and the library of the old computer was not properly transferred. Thus there is a new library, that contains songs we don't want to lose, but we can't connect the iPod.
Please help! How do we transfer the old "library" settings that allow the iPod to be synced without completely deleting the existing library on the new hard drive?
    Thanks.
OS is Windows 7 and new HD's iTunes version is 10.0.0.68.

How did you go about this move?
The correct way to do it is
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you still have the original library it might be worth trying again.

  • Ipod not recognized anymore

My old laptop used to recognize my ipod using usb but only when it was fully charged and even then it would only recognize it some of the time. It also wouldn't ever charge through my computer and the ipod updater never worked. Eventually, that computer stopped recognizing it all together and I didn't even get the do not disconnect screen. In the meantime, I picked up a new laptop thinking maybe I had bad usb connections but I still have the same problem. I have lost all of my music files off of Itunes (due to my own fault of reinstalling windows without backing up my files thinking that might fix) but still have them on my ipod. Is there any way to back up my ipod and how do I restore it (or back it up) when it isn't recognized my my PC? I have tried new cables etc. and am convinced the problem is with my ipod. Any ideas?

  • Hard Drive Partition not recognized

I have a brand new hard drive with 3 partitions on it. fdisk displays all of the partitions on sdb but only 2 of them show up in /dev.

    /dev/sdb3 81922048 625139711 2172870656 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT
This all started when I replaced the hard drive in a laptop and installed Windows 8 on it. I tried connecting it to my desktop, on which I'm running arch, to load a bunch of backed up files on the 3rd partition, however this partition wasn't showing up.
I tried using mknod to create /dev/sdb3.
    [benine@comp ~]$ sudo mknod /dev/sdb3 b 8 19
    [benine@comp ~]$ sudo mount /dev/sdb3 /media/flash
mount: /dev/sdb3 is not a valid block device
I tried deleting that partition and creating a new one in cfdisk, but was left with the same result. So I tried deleting the entire partition table and creating 3 new partitions. Still only two partitions show up in /dev. I tried this setting the type of partition as both NTFS and Linux. Between each of the actions I would detach and reattach the hard drive both internally and externally, and I would also restart the machine. I tried setting up two partitions and could see both. When I set up 4 partitions I could still only see two. I tried setting up one partition, formatted it, then set up 3 partitions and could still only see 2.
I can't mount the other two partitions. When I try with either -t ntfs or -t ntfs-3g I get the error:
    [benine@comp ~]$ sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb2 /media/flash
    NTFS signature is missing.
Failed to mount '/dev/sdb2': Invalid argument
The device '/dev/sdb2' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS.
Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a
partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around?
I don't know if this error has anything to do with the problem but figured it probably did. I have read that that error typically means the hard drive is corrupt but I assure you it's not. I just got done installing windows on this hard drive, that I got this week, for the second time and it is completely usable. I can even access the 3rd partition when I boot into windows. This could be fine as I can access the files through samba, but that is slower and this is a problem that I'd like to find a solution to.
The original partitions were set up by the Windows 8 installation disk. I created one 40GB partition which automatically created a 370MB system partition in addition. Then I used the rest of the 320GB disk as another partition.
Can anybody offer any suggestions in addition to what I have already tried?

I just had same problem with a USB pen, mobing it to another port helped.
Have you tried using a different storage controller? IF you motherboard have more than one that is.

  • Installing snow leopard on new hard drive - disc not seen or found

I can't provide too many details right now as my hard drive is out, and I'm trying to reinstall an operating system.
Problem:  Installed a new hard drive purchased from reputable repair store. Last installation disc I have is OS X Snow Leopard. When I get to the point to choose where to install it, it is not seeing the new hard drive.  I've double checked that the wires/bar connecting the actual hard drive are snug. Could there be another problem? Something to do with Lion? I've read several forums, but to no avail....
Computer:  Macbook Pro unibody. Probably mid 2009.
OS X: The last one before Maverick... 10.8.5
The reason I am putting in a new hard drive is that my computer was having trouble starting up or unexpectedly crashing, although I could do a Safe start or Diagnostic (d).  So, on the old hard drive, I did PRAM reset, and Disk Utility, but could not run the Apple Hardware Test, so I took it in.  There is a little issue with battery not being full, but they did not think that was causing the problem, and that it was probably a hard drive issue.  With the new harddrive... they suggested trying to download an OS from linking to another computer by firewire.... The other computer, (Macbook 2 GHx intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 10067 MHZ DDR3, OS 10.8.5) does not have a firewire, but does have thunderport, so I tried doing a Target start to reboot...  but Macbook Pro did not read the 2nd computer (Macbook). Then I found my old Snow Leopard disk and here I am...

If the repair store installed the drive, I'd take it back and let them make it work. Take your Snow Leopard DVD also.

  • New Hard Drive Does not exist!

    Hello,
I have an HP DV6 -3142 Laptop and recently after owning it for around a year, my hard drive seems to have crashed. When I try to boot up the laptop, it asks me to use system repair to "repair" my problem or start windows normally. Booting normally causes the laptop to be stuck at windos and revert back to booting up again (it's like a closed loop!). If i choose to "repair" I get stuck at a blue screen where the HP system recovery is supposed to help me either reset to factory settings or do a system restore. I also did a hard disk test in the BIOS and got an error 303. I had done a bit of research and from what i heard, It was a hard drive problem. I got a new hard drive (Samsung) and now when I try to install windows 7, It says that there are no devices to load windows 7 onto. In other words, the Hard disk does not exist (also did a test in bios). I tried to reseat the hard drive and reset BIOS, it didn't work. Now, when I try booting the new hard drive, it shows me a message saying "Media test failure: check cable".
Any ideas on how i could go about fixing this problem?

    Welcome Larg.
Sorry but it sounds like your new hard drive is DOA.
If you have a SATA to USB I would hook it up to another computer and  test it that way.
Or you may try to install it in another computer and see if you can test it that way.
    Sorry.
