New Hard drive - IWeb site gone

Today I brought home my IMac with it's new hard drive because the old died. I've been restoring from my external and while daunting, it's going okay.
When I click on my IWeb icon in the dock it opens as if I don't have a website already built. My IWeb site is still active, but I don't know how to get it back to IWeb so I can work on it or make changes. The pages are listed on my .Mac account. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm wondering if you backed up your iWeb "Domain" file to your external drive? iWeb saves all the information about your sites in a single file called "Domain". This file would have been located on your old hard drive in the Users/username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ folder pathway. This is the only thing that constitutes a backup of your iWeb work. Without the "Domain" file, then there is no way to get your existing online site back into iWeb for further editing or publishing.
Your only options would be to recreate your site or to somehow link any new site you create in iWeb to the existing site that is online.

  • New Hard Drive. Playlists gone.

Installed a new hardrive and Windows 8.1.  I do not have the playlists stored in a windows folder.  Is there a way to import my playlists from my ipod touch? I hate to have to build them again song by song.

From this link: https://discussions.apple.com/message/24750939#24750939, it looks like if you back up your device to iTunes on your new HD, the playlists should come up on your new computer.

Patrick ~ Welcome to the Support Commuities. Here's where iWeb's key Domain file (containing your site data) is usually located:
...But rather than backing up just that file, consider using Time Machine and/or SuperDuper.

  • Hard Drive Failed - How to get Blog/iWeb back to new hard drive?

  • Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated the system to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. Why and what am I supposed to do?

Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated it from Lion to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?

    cwhargrave,
have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome.

  • Transfer my iWeb pages to my new hard drive

I lost my hard drive and everything on it. The good news is that most of what I need was backed up on .Mac. I need to know how to transfer my iWeb pages that are published and on .Mac, back to my new hard drive.

  • New Hard Drive - purchased iTunes are gone

Recently i had to have my hard drive replaced.. the guys from Best Buy's Geek Squad managed to salvage "my documents," which contained my iTunes music folder. When i transferred all the data to my new hard drive, the only music files that were on there were the ones i had transferred directly from cd.. all of my purchased iTunes are GONE.
Is there a way to get them back? I'm missing about 800 songs!! ..and there's NO WAY i'm paying for them all over again.
    Someone PLEASE help!!
    Thanks.
    Nicole.

If you have the My Music Folder, they should be there in your play list. Are you saying that these songs are not there? I thought that all songs get put into this folder. I would suggest looking again under compilations, etc. Secondly, there are some things that can be done to recover these songs from your iPod, but I don't have any experience in this and have no idea how to recommend that. You might try a Google for some help with this. Finally, buy a second HDD to back up your current HDD. It is absolutely critical. Best of luck!

  • Is it really true?  Genius Bar installed a new hard drive - lost my website

I see from reading these pages that an iWeb site is actually stored in the Applications support folder. Last week, I took my MacBook to a Genius Bar because of hard drive problems. They determined I needed a new hard drive (which surprised me.) I had backed up everything, I thought, but specifically asked that they save my user files (my name:Sites, Pictures, etc.) which I guess they did.
Why oh why didn't the Apple dude know that I wouldn't be able to retrieve my website into iWeb after this??? Is it possible he really didn't know about the Applications support location and this terrible quirk with iWeb?
Sorry for the rant, but geez. I guess I now have to remake my entire website. Yes, I will cut and paste and drop, etc., but still. What a major hassle, which could have and should have been avoided by the Genius.
Any suggestions? Is it possible they still have my old hard drive sitting around somewhere?

Is it possible they still have my old hard drive sitting around somewhere?
Call and ask them. It's doubtful, however.
I guess I now have to remake my entire website
    Yep sorry
Why oh why didn't the Apple dude know that I wouldn't be able to retrieve my website
Most likely because they simply did not know. They probably backed up everything else on the user folder like you stated... Music, Movies, Documents, Sites, Pictures etc. but not the user Library folder. Bum deal it's always a good idea to educate yourself beforehand when important files are at stake and avoid the temptation of relying on others' services despite the highly regarded reputation you might have inaccurately perceived. Hopefully the rant is over. Sorry for your loss but if you really want to let Apple know then it is recommended that you send feedback to Apple by visiting this link.
Oh hey and welcome to the forum. Good luck.

  • HELP w/iBook, New Hard Drive; OSX does not detect

couple of months ago, my ibook was acting up
I thought it was the Hard Drive... because at first, the position of the laptop affected it (it would like freeze, and all i had to do was stand the laptop up and then i'd be fine) so i thought it was hardware......
    I checked the disk utility.....
and SMART was reporting serious errors......
so i felt it was the HD gone bad, after the many times of "banging" it around (nothing big tho)
    and then......
    it didnt start anymore
it would "freeze" and get error
    so it was basically dead....
I FINALLY got a new Hard DRive for it and i was thrilled
I had CompUsa install it for me for $30....
I was gonna install osx myself.....
    I picked it up
    did the "Apple Hardware Test"
    just to do it.....
everything checked out fine....... "Mass Storage - Passed"
I put the OS discs in and im clicking away "continue, etc"
it comes to the point where it asks me to choose a destination
a partition on the hard drive i presume......
    and there's nothing there
my hard drive just isnt listed.....
I figured the hard drive just needed to be formatted......
aftere eventually realizing that there's a disk utility available during installation....
I thought i had figured it all out......
but upon opening the disc utility....
again, the utility did not detect the hard drive....
did CompUsa not plug the hard drive in right? is that even possible?
    OR........
is the hard drive i bought not compatible?
    I ordered from:https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
    who specialize in mac stuff.....
I bought my laptop early 2004, and according to the site, i should be fine...
I then figure out my laptop is a 2003 model? 800mhz, etc. but even then,
the site says all 2003 models are supported.....
    ahh.....
why is OSX not detecting it?
I wanna format, partition, and have my ibook back for good.....
and why does my "apple hardware test" say that my mass storage system is fine?
    I tried searching for solutions....
I read someone whom had a similar problem....
and it turned out it was an OSX problem, not hardware....
    anyways...
I sure dont hope that's the case, since i already bought the new Hard Drive...
    im so confused....
do i tell CompUsa they didnt install it "right"?
    someone please help
    thank you

I'm not sure why everyone's so fixated on the hard drive's partitioning and whatnot... that wouldn't have any relation to whether or not you could boot from the Mac OS X install disk. From the sounds of it, your problem is that you have no bootable system on the hard drive and can't boot from the Mac OS X install disk, correct?
If that's right, then the problems are very simple indeed. First, your machine may not meet the [Snow Leopard system requirements|http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html], thus can't boot from a SL install disk. If this is a 2008 MBP, that's unlikely.
Second, you could be using a bad disk. The most likely explanation, in my experience, is that you're using the gray disks that shipped with a different machine. You did say that it was a retail disk, though, so I'm assuming that's not it. You could also have a retail disk with a system that's too old. You [can't install an older system than what your Mac shipped with|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186]. That also doesn't seem likely if this is indeed a 2008 MacBook Pro. Or, perhaps the disk itself is defective.
The other possibility would be some kind of hardware problem, perhaps involving the optical drive.
One way to determine what's going on is to try booting with the gray disks that shipped with your machine. If you can't boot from those disks either, you're probably looking at an optical drive problem. If you can, try running [Apple Hardware Test|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509] to rule out other possible hardware problems.

  • Moving old account info to new hard drive

I installed new hard drive, actually 4, and reinstalled Leopord on one of them, actually 2 since I set up a raid 0. I want to move some parts of my old account, which was also 10.5.8, over to new setup and migration assistant won't let me pick and choose, at least not the ones I want. MA won't even let me merge my old account with my new one, they both have same name. I already moved mail by moving mail folder from library and the com.apple.mail.plist to the right folder on new setup and it works fine. Now I want to move ical, safari bookmarks, address book, iphoto, iweb and imovie info, as well as system preferences. What files and folders do I move to make this happen?
    Thanks.

    See the following for suggestions.
Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.

  • HT4483 New hard drive..... lost software

I just got a new hard drive and lost everything because I didn't back up.  My question is, I don't have Pages anymore or some other aps that came with my mac book pro.  Do I have to purchase them now???
I also had iWeb which I used to build a web site.  Is there a place I can get that software and a way to upload my website onto it???

Where did your old HD go? If you did the replacement yourself and you still have the (working) old one, you can install it in an external case and connect via USB. Then, either "Restore" what's on the old one to the new one, or, after OS installation on the new one, use Setup or Migration Assistant to transfer everything to the new one.

  • Restoration of Lenovo T500 to new hard drive using Rescue & Recovery

I bought a new hard drive and I have been having a frustrating time trying to migrate the image of my hard disk to the new drive. When I bought my T500, it came with Windows Vista Business 64, but I have since downgraded it to Windows XP Pro.
Up to now, I was faithfully using Norton Ghost 14 to back up my drive to my USB Western Digital MyBook Mirror Edition 1TB drive. However, I get errors when I try to restore the image to my new drive (and I will be posting that issue to Norton's forum).
While I have not completely given up on Norton Ghost, I decided I might be able to restore the image using the Rescue & Recovery software. I downloaded and installed R&R 4.21.0016.00. After I installed it, I backed up my system to the MyBook Mirror Edition.
I then shut down the computer and put in the new hard drive (a Western Digital Scorpio Black WD5000BEKT). I used a disc that I burned from the ThinkVantage Create Recovery Media utility to boot the machine. While the environment loads just fine, it does not detect my USB hard drive. NOTE: I didn't make my USB drive bootable, I only stored the backup files there.
I tried going into the PC Doctor utility and discovered that there is an "unidentified" USB device under the mouse section, which I presume is the MyBook.
I have hunted high and low for an answer to this both on Lenovo and Western Digital's web sites, but I can't seem to come up with a reason why my drive is not visible to R&R, or a way to load the WD drivers into this recovery environment. I found http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Rescue-and-Recovery-does-not-recognize-USB-driv..., and I followed the instructions - there is a minus sign next to the USB boot device in the bios. However, saving the bios and rebooting the computer (as the post suggested) does nothing to change that setting.
I have tried upgrading the bios to the latest version, but still no luck detecting the USB drive.
I am thinking about resorting to buring a backup of my entire system to DVDs and then restoring using the DVD drive. However, since my current backup is 60GB, I imagine that will take 15 discs.
Whether that fixes my immediate problem or not (that is, transferring to my new drive), I still don't have an answer for a long term solution in case of hard drive failure. Ghost is not working with my current configuration. And if I use R&R for backup, it will do me no good if I cannot get it to connect to my USB drive to recover. Furthermore, as far as I can tell there is no way to burn an existing restoration point to DVD - meaning I would have absolutely no way to restore if my hard drive failed.
I have been working on this migration for 3 full days already, and since I had my system images backed up I thought that this would be a trivial task. Any suggestions at this point would be welcomed.

I'm experiencing the same problem. I wanted to restore single files from an USB disk. Two larger file (500MB each) went through that process quite fast (3 minutes). A folder with many small files takes forever.
What's strange is that my notebook hard drive is at 100% activity all the time, while the USB disk is hardly read.

  • Please help!  Cannot access TC backups on new hard drive with Lion!

I know this seems like a generic posting, and believe me that I have searched through countless posts to find the situation most similar to mine.  To start, the basic story (I am pretty computer illiterate, so excuse the lack of terminology):
-My computer was working slow, beach balling, etc. two weeks ago - took to Apple Genius Bar for help and they suggested need for new hard drive. I already had a hard drive crash in January, but since I have had a Time Capsule running Time Machine since September 2009, I hooked it right up and restored from a backup with no issue... so I wasn't worried about this.  I waited to make sure that I had the most recent backup (and needed to use my computer for law school for a couple days), so I turned it in a day later immediately after a complete incremental backup via TM on my TC.
-Got my computer back from the Apple "depot" with new hard drive and hard drive cable.
-Had an extremely hard time getting my TC to link to my computer and via AppleCare phone help, realized that Apple had given me back my computer with Leopard, and they said that I needed to go back to the store to get a Lion reinstall since the backups had been done in Lion.
-Went back to Apple store, reinstalled Lion... they told me there would be no issue once I got home and hooked up to TC.  Connected to TC via ethernet and went through "set up" procedure as if it was new computer - could never get past the "Select the Disk" page.  Either it was beach-balling or just sitting there, and I couldn't click continue or anything.
-Called AppleCare again, they said to try it through Migration Assistant instead of Set Up... again, could not connect to TC.  They said it was too complicated to do over the phone and sent me back to the store...
-By now, I am on vacation and spent 5, yes FIVE, hours at another store trying to migrate the data to no avail.  I obviously don't know everything they tried, but I know they tried installing each operating system since Leopard, going through set up and migration assistant, and doing a disk repair of the TC.  None of this worked.  Every single time my TC connects and you can see the title of the drive ("Data") and the two separate backups ("emilysmac" was my old computer and "emilysmacbookpro" was the dummy one we tried to make).  Emilysmacbookpro was accessible with no data on it, but once we clicked on emilysmac it just said "connecting" forever and never did anything.
    Basically:
-300GB of my TC shows that it has been used, so I know something is there.
-I can also pull up the data on another computer, and it shows files dated from September 2009 up to the date I last updated, but they do not look how they used to - they are "Unix Executable" files and cannot open through Time Machine.
I have a really hard time thinking that my TC AND my computer hard drive failed at the same time - which is actually what Apple suggested to me.  Is there anything that anyone knows that will help?!  I am desperate here!  This TC had backups of all my music, pictures and law school work over the past 2.5 years.  Any help would be much appreciated!

PS I have also looked through Pondini's site, but I am not sure if I am missing something since I don't totally understand all of it.  Thanks again!
