New hard drive on dell inspiron 1545 no boot sector on internal hard drive

Hi, need some assistance, bought a new HDD o 500Gb, to replace my old one o 320Gb. but can't reinstall win7 64 bit sp1, it gives me the next message "no boot sector on internal hard drive"

Mr. Osprey is right, windows installation is required to boot the computer. The error "No boot sector on internal hard drive" appears when you have a new hard disk or your old hard disk has not bootable partition.

  • Strange bluetooth problem dell inspiron 1545 laptop

Hello friends, I've got a full working install of arch on my dell inspiron 1545 laptop. At first, bluetooth was working with the blueman-applet. After an upgrade to bluez(i suppose), it suddenly stopped working. The laptop bluetooth is on, the device is discoverable, it even successfully recognizes the phone I'm trying to pair. But earlier, it was showing the phones name but now it only shows the mac address in blueman and in "hcitool scan" output, it shows:

and im trying to change the settings of the touchpad in the xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf like the arch wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/To … _Touchpads but the settings are not being applied as if ignores this file or settings are using the generic ps2 and not the touchpad, so i think im using the settings of the PS/2 Mouse and not the configuration of the alps touchpad but my touchpad scrolling work.

  • Palm V, 1999 edition meets 2009 Dell Inspiron 1545 : any idea how I can sync it ?

Can anyone help this dinosaur : I have a 1999 Palm V.  I want to sync it with my PC, a 2009 Dell Inspiron 1545.
The sync cradle I have always used has a female pin connector to connect to a PC; but the Inspiron doesn't have a port into which I can connect this.
Does a "palm V cradle female connector"-to-USB cable exist ?
How can I connect to my PC to sync my Palm V (I have found software) ?
I am UK based : if you do know if a connector cable exists, I'd love an idea of where to buy it.
    Many thanks.

As I asked you above:  What version OS?  Is it 32bit or 64bit?
You can only use a cabled connection in a 32bit Operating System...and then, be absolutely sure the drivers are compatible with Vista.
If you have a 64bit version of Vista you've just wasted your money...

  • No boot sector on internal hard drive and No bootable devices.

Hello, I hope someone can help me.
I have a dell inspiron 1525. I recently replaced on of my memory 512mb modules with a 2gb memory module. At the same time I change the 120gb harddrive and upgraded it to a 320gb harddrive. After doing this when I start the computer I receive the message:
"No boot sector on internal harddrive".
"No bootable devices - - strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility, Press F5 to run onboard diagnostic".
I have tried to change boot sequence and tried to boot from the Windows Vista Home Basic 32BIT. Regretablly with no results. If there is anyone who can guide me and help me to solve this problem I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanking you in advance.

Whenever we get this error "No boot sector on internal hard drive", it means that our hard drive has no partition/ boot sector to boot/ start operating system (Windows).
The ultimate solution is to install Windows from beginning either by using CD/DVD or USB bootable flash drive. You need to have windows installation disc or bootable flash drive for that.

  • New hard drive, had to install Dell 32 bit windows disk. What to do?

My hard drive crashed on my laptop and I never had any recovery media created or any kind of system repair optios available, I went through many troubleshooting options but finally I decided to buy a new hard drive and confirmed my old one crashed. The only disk I could find was a 32 bit Windows 7 Professional for a dell desktop while my previous windows version was a Windows 7 Home Premium and I am pretty sure it was a 64 bit but not certain.
My laptop is the Satellite L655-S5150. My product key obviously didn't work with this version so I have 25 days with it and it's clear that this version isn't right for my laptop because the icons are large and stretched out rather than crisp and clear like before. The pointer is bigger and it just looks weird. Is there ayway to download the right windows 7 version and use my product key or would I have to buy windows again? Would the Toshiba recovery media you can order from Toshiba do it? Would the windows 8 upgrade for 39.99 work even if the product key isn't entered on this computer?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Satellite L655-S5150
Obtain the recovery discs from Toshiba. Windows is preactivated.
       Order Toshiba Recovery Media
For instructions, see the section Restoring from recovery DVDs/media, which begins on p. 71 of the User's Guide.

In case your replacement disk uses advanced-format technology, you may need to do more. See my message about that.

  • New hard drive and photoshop license problem

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a 1.5 Ghz Pentium processor, 2 GB of RAM, and Win Xp/Pro SP3.
The hard drive in this computer failed, and it has been replaced.  I used an image backup from Acronis True Image 10 to "restore" the new disk.
Now, when I try to open Phostoshop CS2, I receive a message that the license is no longer valid (I have been using this version of Photoshop for a long time).
    I don't have this problem with InDesign CS3 (v. 5.0.2), FrameMaker 7.2b144, or Acrobat 8.1.6.
I didn't find any helpful info on the "Product Activation" web page.
I tried a forum search and a search of Adobe.com using the search criteria "new hard drive and photoshop license problem."
The only relevant item I could find is this:
"Backup and restoration of your system using standard tools do not require reactivation. While reactivation after backing up or restoring the system was required in early versions of Adobe software (such as Adobe Photoshop® CS), Adobe has continued to improve the activation process with new technology that eliminates the need to reactivate after system restoration. In complex situations where the system is being upgraded, we recommend deactivating the Adobe software before commencing the system upgrade. Once the system upgrade is completed, the subsequent install/restore will require reactivation, which is typically accomplished without difficulty and is completely transparent to the user."
So does that mean I have to "reactivate" Photoshop CS2?  If so, do I use the Activation window that is displayed when I open Photoshop?  The serial number has 20 characters.  Will the Adobe (re)activation recognize this old serial number?  If not, what do I have to do to get this product usable again?
    Please help.

    >replaced your hard drive and CS2 DRM is looking for the old hard drive number and not finding it
Interesting... I use http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm which creates a bootable CD and runs outside of Windoze
I have made image files and loaded those files to a new hard drive (I use drive swap hardware to make a backup and create a new drive every time I install or uninstall major software) and have never had any program complain about needing activation
But, since the program I use is Linux on a bootable CD, it copies EVERYTHING on a hard drive, even the hidden registration areas as far as I can tell, so when I do a restore to a new drive, everything is put on the new drive

  • Inspiron 1545 - New HDD and Boot CD not working

    Dear Dell Support,
my Inspiron 1545's HDD died and I bought a new WD Blue (WD5000LPVX) to replace it with.
Initially the HDD was not recognizable (PCW cable not present) and after some searching I found that I had to disable NIC on BIOS.
After doing so, the HDD was present on the BIOS.
I tried then to boot from CD, both Windows and Ubuntu, but it never reaches this, even though both changing the boot sequence and choosing what to boot from on F12.
It ends up with a message 'Operating System not present'.
I also noticed that BIOS becomes very slow when the HDD is present.
Finally, it seems that the new drive is a SATA 3 one, but this can be changed using jumpers...
Any ideas on how to boot the laptop with this setup using a CD/DVD?
    Thank you.

  • Moved library to new hard drive, iPod no longer communicates

Ok, I am computer savy but know next to nothing about iTunes as I don't use it, but my wife does use it. However, my wife is not computer savy.
My wife's old hard drive started dying (on a Dell laptop), so we bought a new one and moved all her files over. However, she now has 2 problems:
    (1) She cannot use any of the old music files. I read around online, and I have discovered that we need to consolidate the old files from the old HD into a flash drive using the iTunes consolidate library function. Then they can be imported to the new library on the new computer. This is doable as the old drive is not yet completely dead.
    (2) However, she has since purchased/downloaded new songs out of the iTunes store onto the new HD, and thus I need to keep the new HD's library intact or we'll lose the files. *Now the big problem: her iPod will not connect to the new iTunes library.* I assume this is because iPods sync with a particular library, not a particular computer, and the library of the old computer was not properly transferred. Thus there is a new library, that contains songs we don't want to lose, but we can't connect the iPod.
Please help! How do we transfer the old "library" settings that allow the iPod to be synced without completely deleting the existing library on the new hard drive?
    Thanks.
OS is Windows 7 and new HD's iTunes version is 10.0.0.68.

How did you go about this move?
The correct way to do it is
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you still have the original library it might be worth trying again.

  • I have a an external hard drive formatted for Windows, and I want to move those files to a new hard drive formatted for both Windows and OS. Is this possible?

I just purchased a MB Air 13", as well as a Seagate Slim Backup Plus. I have an older external hard drive that I was using with a Dell laptop. I would like to get the files off of the older external hard drive, and onto the new Seagate drive. Is this possible? I'd also like to be able to add files going forward to the Seagate from either a PC or a Mac and be able to view/use them on the MB Air 13".
    Thanks in advance.

You will have to format the Seagate external HDD to a format common to both Mac and PC such as ExFAT.  That should allow you to transfer files from the old HDD and still allow you to use with your MBA.
    Ciao.

I have a hp pavilion dv6000.  I went out and bought a new hard drive from best buy today.  they are both SATA drives and it fits perfect in my laptop.  I pluged the drive in and booted and it said there was no operating system.  I thought thats fine, there should be any operating system its a new drive.  I do not have the recovery cd's but i have a windows xp cd that is from my old dell laptop and i have vista but its downloaded (100% legally i got from my college its not pirated) so i am not sure on how i would go about putting it on a cd as its 6628mb.  The windows xp cd says its to install the OS on a dell laptop and for some reason does not find my drive after booting it up.  I don't know if this is due to the fact it was made for a dell computer or something but it doesn't have any drivers it says its just the OS.  The drive i had before in the laptop said the exact same thing when i tried to do the windows xp install with the dell cd because i accidently shut my computer off while reformatting.

A Dell Software CD/DVD will not work in anything but a Dell. It is looking for a Dell motherboard for authentication.
As far as your Vista image goes, you will have to use a dual layer DVD, not a CD. Single layer DVDs only can be used for up to 4.7GB.
Was the old Hard drive dead?

  • Windows 7 Enterprise is not genuine after installing new hard-drive and cloning the old one

I retired from my job as a university professor two years ago, and they let me keep my laptop computer, which is a Dell Latitude E4300 with Windows 7 Enterprise installed. I do not have any of the original disks for Windows. Recently, the hard-drive began
to fail, so I replaced it with a new one, cloning the old hard-drive onto the new one. Soon after that, a popup window began appearing saying that this computer is not running genuine windows. One important consequence of this is that I can no longer use Windows
Update, so I have concerns about security. If I go to the control panel under “System”, it says windows is activated and gives me the Product ID. I have talked to tech support at Microsoft, and they tell me something along the lines of the following: that
the problem is the new hard-drive is not recognized as being licensed to use this copy of Windows, and that I should post a question on one of the forums asking this: How can I reinstall Windows 7 Enterprise on the new hard-drive? Any assistance will be much
    appreciated.
PS I have no idea which forum this should go under, so pretty much just picked one randomly.

Thank you for the reply. Below is the diagnostic report:

  • HELP!!! CAN'T RESTORE OLD CATALOG TO NEW HARD DRIVE

    July 12, 2010
    Hello,
Thank you for any help you can give with this rather desperate problem.
I have installed a replacement hard drive in my Dell Windows Vista laptop and reloaded Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0.  I am unable to reconnect Elements with my old photo organizer catalog.
Thus the system says I have Elements installed, with a catalog with zero photos in it. When in fact I have 12,000 fotos all captioned, dated and tagged for the Elements organizer.
Elements HELP has nothing about reconnecting to an old photo catalog.
Is it possible (???) that Elements does not keep the catalog separate from the program itself – so that when the program itself is lost in the switch to a new hard drive, the catalog is also lost (unless the user made a backup somewhere)?
    Anyway, here’s what happened:
I had made a fairly recent backup of the catalog to an external hard drive, so I copied that backup onto my new hard drive. Then in the Elements Organizer, I clicked on File; Restore Catalog from CD, DVD or Hard Drive. In the window that popped up, I directed it to the backup file (Backup.tly) and specified a location for restoring files and catalog. Then I clicked on Restore.
Up came a window that named one of my 12,000 fotos and said these approximate words “File already exists, do you want to overwrite it?”. I finally said Yes, and then it went on to another of my 12,000 fotos and asked the same question. I assume it planned to go through all 12,000 fotos, but I can’t imagine why.
But instead of continuing, I then got a window that said, “Error encountered while restoring catalog. It is recommended that you contact your disc drive manufacturer and upgrade to the latest available firmware for your specific disc drive before trying again.” (By the way, all my other programs are working fine on the new hard drive.)
I sure hope someone out there can tell me what’s going on. Thank you so much.
    Don

You copied the backup onto your new hard drive? Yes or no? Where was it before?
Then did you try to restore to the exact same location where you placed the copy?
HEre is the proper way to restore a catalog: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402894.html
By the way ... you say: "Elements HELP has nothing about  reconnecting to an old photo catalog." I disagree.
You say: "Is it possible (???) that Elements does  not keep the catalog separate from the program itself" not only is it possible, but Elements does indeed keep the catalog separate from the program itself.
