New hard drive on this computer cause pc crashed so itunes starting over.

How do I get my purchases back someone told me they have a history of my purchases and they can send them to me without me haveing to buy them all over again I did not have a backup disc I should have I had it backed up to so far but not backed up far enough to where it counted and some of the disc has some missing and I had some changes I had made with itunes purchases, I would like to get my purches back, without having to use up all my itunes cards to pay for them., thanks

If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so.     Right clicking on your ipod in the device list an d choosing "transfer purchases" will copy apps and bought media from iTunes to your computer. Due to the new iTunes library on your new HD, iTunes will erase your ipod during the first sync. To save your data to the computer take a look at this article about saving data from your device to a computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
    Basically it's backing up manually, transferring her purchases (apps and bought music), letting iTunes erase the ipod due to the new iTunes library, and restoring from the manual backup again, to get all the data and settings back.
    Make sure your new computer account is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.

    Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
    Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.

    Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

    What is the memory being used by, is it Other? If it is, that means the iPod can no longer read the music, so it has put it all in "Other".
    The usual fix for this is to allow the iPod to Sync with its iTunes Library. If that doesn't work, the next option is to Restore the iPod using the Restore command in iTunes, on the Device/Summary pane.
    Unless you are very (very) lucky, I suspect that you are going to have to Restore your iPod. Restoring will remove everything form the iPod and put back onto it only what it finds in your iTunes Library, which you say is currently empty.
    If you have to rebuild your Library after this issue, by adding all the music back again, this is going to be hard to hear, but for the future, you may want to consider always having a backup of your library. The easiset way to back the Library up is;
    if the Library is small enough, burn it to a DVD, as digital files, not a "music CD".
    If your Library is too large for a DVD, buy yourself an external hard drive and copy the Library onto the drive. Remember to update the backup every so often.

    SMART is a technology that monitors the drive for signs of impending failure. You can verify that SMART is indicating a problem in Disk Utility. Select the hard drive and look at the bottom of the window. It should look like this:
    If the SMART status is not "Verified" then you should back up your drive and start shopping for a new one.

    Go to the control panel and then to user accounts. Select the Change Your Account Name option. Change the account name from Test to Christina.

    Make sure you have cookies enabled for your browser.  Try using a different browser if the problem continues.

    Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
    You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

    As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software to copy over.  A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

    Install it in your phone so it can display your Sync Key (also know as recovery key).

    The computer repair store explained that all of my itune music was exported to my external hard drive before they installed an upgraded hard drive into my old computer. I was able to retrieve my songs from my external drive and put them into my "new" library after I downloaded itunes software onto my new hard drive.     Did they also copy the iTunes Library.itl file as well as the iTunes music folder? This is the database of the songs in your library and the playlists and other info.
    If they deleted the file, iTunes creates a new, empty copy when you re-install it, but any playlists are lost.
    If you still have them on your iPod, then a 3rd party app may help.
    If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
    iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.

    padman215, welcome to the forum,
    you need to boot from the Rescue and Recovery cd and select to recover the system and then to recover to factory state. It will then eventually ask for the other discs.
    Please be sure that you read the messages carefully; if it asks for a supplementary disc, (which you don't seem to have), you need to click on "no" should it ask for one - this throws alot of people.
