I think I'm having a very similar issue. My iTunes is stuck on a version 9 & won't allow me to upgrade it. My MacBook Pro won't read my iPhone through iTunes until a version 10 or newer is downloaded.
I don't suppose you've found anyone who can help you yet?

When is the new movie need for speed coming out in itunes?

    No idea.
You would need to ask the makers of the movie when they plan to release it to itunes.

  • New harddrive, opportunity for organization?

My old trusty Macbook has been crawling along for too long now, so I decided to rebuild it with a new battery, more RAM, and most pertinentily, a 500GB harddrive. Two other relevant variables: I have a music collection that I've been working on for decades in a disorganaized fashion, with some of it stored on my current (full) Macbook harddrive and some on a terabite external harddrive.
My questions for you amazing Mac savants:
-How do I get all my files from my current hardrive (including the operating system?) onto the new one as I swap them out? The only way I could imagine doing so is shuttling everything onto the external harddrive, and then back on to the new harddrive after it is installed..
-Since this virgin harddrive is as of yet uncluttered, I was thinking of using this transfer as an opportunity to consolodate all my music and cleanse it of duplicates. Is there away I could give a command to import all music files from the external harddrive straight into the itunes music folder on the new harddrive, but without importing any duplicates?
Thank you so much for your help! This is a puzzle far beyond my capabilities...
    With much appreciation,
    -Tommy

    Hi,

  • New Computer needed for Premiere Pro

I am not too tech-savvy when it comes to some computer specs, but over the years of using Adobe Premiere Pro, I have used many computers with this program, and while all of them met the system requirements, I have had problems in each instance.
I am currently using CS4 on a Dell Precision T3500, which has been pretty good so far, but now I am editing much larger projects that have extensive data and files, and now my system has slowed down to the point where I can no longer render my media without Adobe freezing up and crashing. For reference, the size of the .prproj file is 15M, and is using over 10G of media, and is freezing up on me.
A simple solution would be some sort of add-on to my system to make it work faster with preview files and can render & export quickly, but realistically I will need a better computer overall to accomplish this. Would a specific graphics card solve this problem?
If I were to start from scratch with a brand new computer from Dell.com, what would be the best OS, Processor, Memory (any noticable difference between 4G and 6G?), and anything else needed to allow Premiere Pro to function smoothly with large projects? I would like it to be cost-effective, but what's most importand is getting PPRO to work the way it is meant to for professional, high-end projects.
I don't need to dissect & learn the interworkings of my car in order to drive it. I wish the same could be said about Adobe Premiere Pro and the computer specs needed for it...
Thanks for your time and effort to help me out. Much appreciated!!
    -Rick

    Rick,
You may not need to know all the inner workings of your car to drive it, but buying a new (or used) car these days involves quite of bit of research just to understand all of the various option packages!
Let me start by completely agreeing with both wb_martin and Bill Gehrke comments, although neither is suggesting you buy a stock Dell! I know enough to build and support my own systems, but ADK indeed rocks for anyone who wants a cost effective turnkey system customized for their specific video (or audio) editing needs.
I also agree with Alex's comments and his "hybrid" recommendation regarding a Dell or HP workstation with a nVidia gamer's series GTX video card. You cannot however order those from Dell's or HP's web sites though since they normally only offer the Quadro nVidia cards on their workstation series offerings.
I will assume that you are editing DV and/or HD and not RED 4k or larger media.
Dell has systems in both their gamers line and workstation line that would work pretty well for large projects assuming you jump up to Adobe's CS5/5.5/6 software which supports use of both cpu and gpu (video card) processing to really speed up editing and renders:
    Workstation - Dell T3600
    Xeon E5-1650, 6-core, 3.2GHz (3.8 GHz turbo), Win7 Pro 64-bit, $1629 base price
    635 watt p/s $35
    32GB 1600 MHz ECC RAM $819
    Quadro 5000 2.5 GB $1309
    4TB RAID 0 $252
    Blu-ray burner $222
    TOTAL = $4266
    Gamer's Alienware Aurora
    i7-3930k factory oc'd to 4.1GHz, Win7 Pro 64-bit, $2119 base price
    32GB, 1600 MHz RAM $450
    GTX 680 2GB video card $450
    4TB RAID 0 $250
    Blu-ray burner $125
    TOTAL = $3394
The workstation option is a really solid system (like your T3500) and Dell's workstation support is pretty good.
The gamer's option is significantly less expensive and faster. I personally think that its also pretty UGLY!
IMHO Dell and HP provide very nice workstation base systems but then charge really inflated prices for memory, hard drives, optical drive upgrades, etc. So, that brings you back to a "hybrid" option if you would be up to it. That is, buy a base Dell (or HP) workstation and then add 3rd party RAM, graphics card, and hard drive(s). That will not void your warranty, but will not be a completely turnkey solution either.
BTW, HP makes a killer workstation pre-configured powerful enough to edit Red 4k. Unfortunately it costs almost $10k!
    Good luck with this adventure!

  • New Harddrive, Need to Import Library

My old harddrive went out on me, new one installed, how do I put my library from my ipod to my new itunes?

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • New iTunes & need for Safari Update, why do I need Safari!?

I absolutely HATE Safari, why do we need to install the latest version to be able to get into iTunes, or have it at all? This is why I do not trust updates "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
Seriously thinking of going elsewhere for my music needs and I have been loyal to the iTunes store since day one.

Thanks, just do not even want it taking up space on my computer. Took FOREVER to install in South America. Was not even worth it New iTunes user unfriendly.

  • Venice Core is Available at newegg...New Bios Needed For It?

Most of you prolly saw this already, but the if not the venice core is out on newegg for 275.00. Anyone know if these work in the Nforce 4 or do you need a bios update? Any updates on this would be great....thanks!

I have the venice 3800+ and corsair twinx pc4400(tccd) which runs at stock frequency of 275. currently it is sitting @250, if i even attempt to bump it up one notch it fails to boot!
your not going to tell me that between stability at 2.75ghz  and 2.76ghz its hitting a wall and totally unstable?
Yes actually, I am.  My 3200+ does the exact same thing whenever I try to get it to run at or above 2500 MHz...no amount of tweaking or extra voltage will keep it stable.  Despite this fact, it is rock solid at my standard overclock of 2464 MHz, which is *very* close to its unstable point of 2500 MHz.  It's not the board that prevents me from getting past 2.5 GHz, it's the chip itself...it just doesn't want to go that fast.
    Quote
Sorry this is MSI bios issue, and remember no two chips are the same yet there are several folk on other websites that are in the same boat
as me falling down exactly at the same settings!
Yes, no two chips are exactly the same, but families of chips do tend to exhibit similar behavior, which is why most of the 90 nm Winchester chips overclock to about 2.5 GHz or so but almost never get higher than that.  If you can cite instances where these chips that fail to run faster than 2.75 GHz are able to reliably exceed 2.75 GHz (and be stable) in other motherboards, then it would lend credibility to the idea that this is a MB/BIOS issue.  Until then it is far more likely that the ceiling on the new chips is just right around 2.75 GHz.
    Quote
Problem is not about max speed. Its about maks FSB. Even 4*275 it wont boots, like CBBID coded ones. But all other Mobos run quite stable 450*4 vith these CPU's.
All other mobos?  Sorry, but the only MB's that support such a ludicrous FSB setting (i.e > 400 MHz) are all made by DFI...that hardly counts as all other MB's and makes the veracity of your statement quite questionable.
EDIT:  and the more I read on other forums and review sites, the more evidence that I find for the theory that the chip family just hits a wall at abour 2.8 GHz and less support I see for the "BIOS is broken" theory.  Many users report being able to get to about 2.7 to 2.75 GHz on stock voltage, and then report being stable at 2.8 or 2.85 GHz, but only at a *much* increased voltage (like 1.6V when the default is 1.4V).  This implies that an internal hardware limitation in the chip itself is preventing it from scaling beyond about 2.75 GHz.  Furthermore, there are user reports of attaining 2.8 GHz on a MSI Neo4, and 2.85 GHz on a MSI Neo2.

  • New Area Needed For Email Migration Questions and ...

Please may we have a new Forum area that is dedicated to the email migration. There are bound to be matters arising - I can think of one straight off - what happens to all those Disposable email addresses we set up in BTYahoo? Will they survive? Will they continue to be forwarded to the account under which they are created?

    postmaster123 wrote:
Yes, there should be a dedicated section for the mandatory upgrade.
I have posted a query about disposable email addresses, the addresses move over but the colour indicators you can allocate to each one have disapeared, appears to be no facilty to reallocate on preferences, although i was assured option this would remain.
this is not a mandatory upgrade of email but a total change away from Yahoo with BT setting up their own bt email.  there are many posts about it on the forum
a new board maybe required but there are not enough posts at present I think to justify a new forum board - but once released maybe in a month or so then it may well justify a new forum board depending on posts.  just like smarttalk and btsports

    Hi,
The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook as long as it is the same capacity or larger than your current HDD.
    320Gb Hard Drive
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive is detailed starting on Page 51 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive.
If you don't have your Recovery Discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
