New Hardrive for Laptop, How to sync.

Okay, my old hardrive crashed on me... and I made the terrible mistake of not backing it up.
I now have a new hardrive, and using a 3rd party program moved all of the songs off of my iphone back into iTunes.
But now I'm struggling to find a way to sync my iPhone to the new itunes library without deleting everything off my phone!
Also, I luckily put all my photos from my laptop onto my iphone, how can I put those back onto my laptop?
Last but not least... I need to authorize my laptop for itunes, but have already used 5. *How can I unauthorize my old hardrive's itunes?*

No, I don't have 2 gigs of RAM but as soon as I get the money I will upgrade from OWC! I have found that website (http://www.macsales.com) to be very reliable, quick and they have the lowest prices out there for the highest quality of products.
I searched around the internet to find out which was the best HD to get and what speeds, etc, and I found most went with Hitachi's 160G Travelstar drive. I know I read about many people having issues with Western Digital's model (sudden motion sensor, kernel panics, etc) so even though it was cheaper I knew that was the wrong way to go just by reading people's comments online. I suggest everyone else do the same thing. Do your research, both online and off, and find out what most people are having successes with (and asking on this board is what helped me, too!)
Once I get my increased RAM, then we will officially be twins. lol.

I'm lovin this new drive. I've got my 40 gigs of music on here, my 10,000 photos, all my apps, and I still have like 85 gigs left. Shweet! With the stock 80gb drive, I was already in my teens in HD space!

New windows 8 laptop and 4S sync

Need help . . .
Have been using my Windows 7 notebook to sync and backup the 4S along with the cloud service.
Copied the photo, apps, contact, and music to the new laptop with the Windows 8.
The issue that I have is that the device recognizes the old laptop as a valid source to sync the photo, books, and tones.
I deauthorized and signed off from the old laptop but the device still recognizes the old laptop as well as the new laptop. The device recognizes the new laptop for app sync only.
I have one Apple ID while each ID is being used for the new and old laptop.
My goal is to transition to the new laptop and use the new laptop as the valid and exclusive source for device sync.
Need help on how to get there . . .

Preparing new Certificate for Exchange - how to cover the .local domain names

I need to plan out our new certificate for our CAS servers. Exchange 2010 SP3. Our current SAN certificate has several names including our Exchange FQDN's which are exserver.domain.local. I know our CA will not let me generate SAN's with a .local anymore
so how do I cover the Exchange internal FQDN's in the certificate?
I did a get-exchangecertificate and the only certificates I have are the public CA with all the SAN's and Services are IP.WS. The other two Exchange certificates are self signed but only for SMTP "S".
You can only have one certificate for web services "W" so how do you get around the Exchange FQDN? Our internal autodiscover, availability and OOF etc....that Outlook uses all use the Exchange internal FQDN of servername.domain.local.
Even if I generate another Exchange certificate for the server FQDN and submit it to our internal CA, I cannot enable web services on this certificate because my public certificate is already enabled for web services.
Need some help here. I am really stumped on this one.

Office 2011 is the current boxed version for the Mac. The two versions are Home and Business. The difference (besides price) is that the Business version includes Outlook. Both contain Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Actually, the Home version also has Outlook hidden on the disk. If you decided later you want to use Outlook, you can call Microsoft for an unlock code to install it from the Home version disk. The unlock cost is essentially the difference between the Home and Business versions.
You mentioned Office 2013, but that's the current Windows version. MS hasn't really stated one way or another if there will be a feature comparable boxed Mac version. If there is, it looks like we won't see it until sometime in 2014. To get the current functionality of Office 2013 in a Mac product, you'd have to purchase the subscription based Office 365.
It does depend on your needs. Often, Office must be used for true compatibility with people you work, or collaborate with. It also has many features the free alternatives don't offer, and can't import or replicate. Otherwise, as Gary noted, Open Office is a good free choice.

To reply to the original question: go to iTunes Preferences, then Devices and check the 'prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically' option. You can then connect your device and choose to download updates only. You will need to hit the 'sync' button when you want to do this from now on though, unless you deselect the prevent automatic syncing option in preferences again. Hope this helps

Replaceing previous iPod touch with new one...how to Sync?

Hi, Received a new iPod Touch for Christmas to replace my 2nd Gen version that had run out of memory capacity. My question is...how do I get all of my iTunes library that's on my PC onto the new iPod touch? I want to keep my current iTunes account, just move everything onto the new device? Is it as simple as just plugging it in and naming it the same as the old device? I'm assuming the new serial number will supercede the previous..will that render my previous device useless? I'd still like to keep it for use in the car.

every time you synced your old iPod, iTunes should have made a backup. all you have to do is plug in the new gadget and follow on-screen instructions.

You must first go to your Apple ID and take the device off of your listed devices and then wait until it is updated accordingly ...Next link the iPhone to her Apple ID. go to the app store and on to 'featured' scroll down to the bottom and it shows your apple id, click it and sign out and you can then sign in with your new apple id
If you mean your iCloud ID, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the ID you want to use. If you are signing back into the same account, just with a renamed ID, choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted. Your data will be synced back when you sign back in. However, if you are changing to a new account with a new ID and need to migrate your synced data to the new account, choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted. Then choose Merge to upload your data to the new account when you sign back in and turn on your iCloud data syncing.
If you want to keep your photo stream photos, save them to your camera roll before deleting the account (tap Edit, tap all the photos, tap Share, tap Sae to Camera Roll).

I had a Dell PC, and I got a MacBook for Christmas. I have an iPod Touch that already has songs, videos and pictures on it that are in my iTunes library on my PC. How do I get these files onto my new Mac?

I have the same situation. I've already copied my iTunes library from my PC to CD's. I added my husband as a user on my new Mac and now has an empty library. I believe my next step is to copy the music files to the library, but what about the iPod Touch? Do I have to connect it to the PC and restore it first so that when I connect it to my Mac it will re-format for OS X? This is how I did it for my iPod Classic, but I've read several articles that the Touch doesn't work the same as the Classic. There are too many contradictory posts out there. Please advise with the easiest way to do this. Thanks in advance.

New motherboard for laptop purchased 5/2013?

I purchased a laptop 5/2013 a Pavillion g6-2321dx, suddenly over the weekend it wouldn't turn on, totally dead. Computer repair says it needs a new motherboard. Warranty expired 8/20. It has been used only moderately for school papers and web browsing. Isn't it too soon for a new motherboard?

Well I am sure you feel that way. The life of any electronic component can be expressed as a bell curve, with the "mean time to failure" as the center point. For a laptop motherboard I would guess mean time to failure probably would be 3 or 4 years, but failing after a little more than one year is not unheard of. The point is that the manufacturer warrants it for one year, which has become standard as the tradeoff of extra cost versus reasonable consumer protection. The customer has to pay the cost of the amount of risk the manufacturer assumes. I know this is not making the news any easier to take. Usually an extended warranty is available at the time of purchase, but the cost seems high up front.

Hi all, I am experiencing an unfortunate truth with my laptop. Windows (and Linux) both got excruciatingly slow yesterday for no reason whatsoever. Upon booting into Windows it said that my hard disk was going to kick the bucket sometime soon. So I called customer support and I did all that they told me to do, except buying the Windows Recovery CD. Firstly, the hard drive is going out, not the software so I was screwed anyway. So now that I have deleted the linux partitions, and now using a LiveUSB of OpenSUSE, I know I am going to lose Windows. However, I saw that there are product keys at the bottom of the laptop.
My question: What will happen to Windows 7 when my new HDD arrives? Will I not be able to transfer the OS key to the new hard drive? I can delete all of the partitions anyway to where I have nothing on the HDD if that will help.

No, Sally. That partition never changes. You get recovery media that restores the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents (including the hidden partition which contains the same old recovery image).

Installing new drive for OSX-How do I format and remove existing drive

I'm going to replace the 320G drive that came in my Mac Pro with a 500G. I want to format and remove the 320G, then put OSX on the 500G. How would I go about this.

Hi,
Shut down computer, add the 500GB drive into one of the open hard drive slots, reboot, there might be a window that pops up indicating if you want to "intialize" the new drive. Click Intialize (If nothing comes up launch disk utility located in applications--> utilities--> disk utility).
In the disk utility window, locate the new drive on the left side column. Click on the drive, and in the middle portion of the window there will be 5 tabs: First Aid, Erase, Partition, RAID, Restore. Click Partition.
Under Volume Scheme, choose how many partitions you want. I your case you probably just want 1 partition, so choose 1 partition.
Name the volume under volume information, choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) for format.
Looking at the buttons below press "Options". Your mac is intel make sure "GUID Partition Table" is clicked.
Press Partition. Wait a couple seconds for it to partition. Once done, it will show up on the desktop. It's ready to go.
Next step to decide is if you want to fresh install the OS onto this new 500GB drive OR simply clone over your 320GB. This is up to you. If you don't want to reinstall everything just use a cloning program such as "Superduper!" or "Carbon Copy Cloner".
If you want to fresh install the OS, insert the OS disk that came with the mac pro. Restart. When restarting hold down the letter "c" on the keyboard to boot from disk. Follow the instructions, and choose "erase and install". If you are going to fresh install, BE SURE TO CHOOSE THE BLANK 500GB, NOT YOUR CURRENT 320GB. To fresh install, the choice is "Erase and Install" I think. Install and your 500GB drive should be ready to go, with a brand new OS installed.
Whether you choose to clone over your system, or fresh install, if possible always run "Disk Warrior" or "Tech Tools" maintenance disks if you have them either after the OS install or after installing all your applications.

Hans - I have added the README file to the Forms demo page - this should be "live" within the next 24 hours.
Incase you need them now:
1) Download Jinitiator 1.3.1.9 from OTN of you don't have it installed
2) Unzip the file into a suitable temporary folder e.g. c:\temp\9idemos
3) Start OC4J befor installing
4) Start the Universal installer from the Oracle Installation Products start
menu option
5) Point the installer at the (c:\temp\9idemos\)products.jar file and select
your iDS Oracle Home as the home to install into
6) Follow the installer instructions
7) Read the readme file launched by the install
8) Click on the Desktop icon or Start menu option to launch the demos.
Restrictions
This set of demos is only intended for installation into an Oracle9iDS
Oracle Home on Windows NT or 2000
