New HD, can't install OS x

Installed a new 640 GB hard drive in my mid 2010 core 2 duo, 2.4ghz , macbook pro 13", Macbook Pro 7,1
Boots fine with install disk, 10.6.7 (not original that came with computer) After selecting the language to install, it says "can't install Mac OS X on this computer".  options are restart or install from time machine (back-up).
This is being set up as a totally new computer so no back up exists.

You must use the computer's original disks or create a Mac OS X 10.6.4 or newer system on an external drive or through target disk mode from another Mac.

No, the Adobe installer will simply over-write the earlier version.

  • New iMacs: can I install Snow Leopard?

We just ordered a new 27-inch iMac in the office. We don't really want to give this person a Lion machine. Our SL image is just hanging. Any suggestions?

Then you were fortunate: I've heard that during a switch-over, there may be machines with a build that was intended for the previous system, but then the newer system was installed - and, supposedly, they can be booted with a previous system. So, yours must be one of those - I've never had one; I've always made sure I had a (relatively) new machine just before or after the new OS was released so i could run one or the other (or both) OS's on it.

  • I bought Microsoft Office in '09 when I purchased my desktop. When I purchase a new MacPro, can I install it or do I need to buy another license?

Very interested in purchasing a Macbook Pro.Can I load the Microsoft Office software purchase in 09 on the new computer? Do I need to buy another license? Interested in the new iPad Mini, have an iPhone. Do I really need the Mini or the laptop with more capabilities?

To clarify the Rosetta issue:  Microsoft Office 2008 and 2011 will both run in Lion and Mt. Lion.  It is the 2004 edition and earlier that required Rosetta.
ARTWW: One way I restored Office 2004 capability in Lion (and now Mt. Lion) is through installing Snow Leopard (and Rosetta) into Parallels:

  • New Imac can I install a intel q6600 quad G0 stepping ?

I want to buy a New Imac 24" and planning to install a intel q6600 Go stepping 95W us$290.00 or have it installed. http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLACR
Does anyone know if the power supply can handle the extra 30w the new cpu is going to use or not ?
    E6850
    http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLA9U
Unfortunately I need the cpu for Linux gentoo compiles and the e6850 just does not cut it for me for this specific task. Already have a E6850 in my old desktop box and insanely fast but not 4 cores as I need.
Same max temp rated same volts +0.2V and 30w more.
I would have liked to have a nicer than current video card 8600gt in there but I presume we are stuck with the ati2600pro instead of nvidia.
You may ask why not just buy a desktop ? well size + weight + travel wise this seems to fit like a glove and the video card is good enough for extra task's / compromise except I would not be able to have raid hd's darn.
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Even if the processor in the new iMac is socketed, not soldered, I don't believe you will be able to use the processor you mention. From what I can find, the processor in the new iMacs is the T7700, which according to Intel's web site uses a different package type and hence a different socket than the Q6600. So unless my information is wrong, the power supply will be irrelevant.
What is it you would be using the iMac for that you'd void the warranty on a brand-new machine?

Hi there, thank you very much for your kind reply.
When I try this, it says that there is no compatible version on my machine.
I try later on my old one to deactivate all adobe products and hope, that it will work then.

  • New v240, can't install or upgrade Sol 10

I've got two new SunFire v240 servers. They came running solari 10 03/05. OBP 4.18.10. I need to upgrade to at least update 2. The installer aborts every time.
I've tried installing via "boot net" or "boot cdrom" without sucess, both update 2 and update 3. After the initial round of questions about identifying the system, the installer just quits. I get a message that says I can run the script "Install_Solaris" if I want to restart the install process, but it still fails. Install log message says, "searching ctd0xxx for an upgradeable Solaris image".
This problem just feels like a newbie issue. If we just knew what setting to set, it would let us continue with the install. Any ideas?

Are you using media provided by Sun (manufactured commercially),
or are you using media that you created yourself onto blank disks ?
If these are "home made" disks, how did you create them?

  • New Drive can't install OS

I just got a new Mac Pro. I wanted to use my Raptor drive as the boot drive but when I try to install from the DVD that came with my computer it says:
you cannot install mac os x on this volume
What gives there? The Raptor is a clean drive. Why can I not install the OS? I can usually figure this stuff out but this one has got me?!?!??
    Thanks in advance.

AFAIK, ICBMs (Intel-chip-based Macs) need the GUID partition map scheme. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303220 and http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2315.html for details.

  • New iPad, can't install iTunes on Windows 7 in order to activate it (?!)

64 bit Windows, HP laptop.  I have tried this several times and have done System Restore to before the first failed iTunes installation.  No joy.
Alternate question;  is there a way to use my new iPad without bothering with iTunes?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Before iOS 5, you need iTunes to activate your iPad.  Did you install the right iTunes?  There are 32 and 64 bit versions.
I would try completely removing all the Apple software and then reinstall using the following:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

  • New Ipod - can't install version 8.0

I have bought a new ipod nano today and it won't synch with itunes unless I download v8.0. However, everytime I do it, it asks me to click tools an download manually and then when I do this it says that there is no valid signature.
I am really disappointed as I spent some of my savings on this ipod and I can't use it.
    Any ideas?

  • Trying to install Photoshop 7 upgrade on new computer, can't install because computer not reading my version 6 CD; can't validate

    help!

Try copying the 7 installer to your HD and run it from there. It might look at your 7 installer CD as a valid version. This worked for some versions.

This is the the alert I keep getting when i try to add this new printer
"Can't install the software for the Samsung CLX-3180 Series because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."
Im am having BIG problems getting my printer to be recognized

I am getting the identical error message for an HP Officejet 7200 series printer.
First there is a message that software is available from Apple.  You click to get it.  Then it tells you that it is not currently available from the software update server.
I am running OS 10.8.2.  Printer is on my home network (not USB).
I went to the Apple Software Dowload site and re-downloaded the latest "HewlettPackard Printer Drivers" (v.2.12) and installed them (twice).  No dice.
Anybody found a way around this problem?
I solved all print related issues by avoiding HP, worst software I ever saw, this may not work for you though.

  • Can't install N-GAGE update error

I have a second brandnew N96. The first had a fabric failure. A piece of plastic was blocking the speaker. So when i made a phonecall i couldn't here the "other side". On that same N96 the N-GAGE application failed to install. I tried to download it from the N96 connected with GPRS. The result was a UPDATE ERROR. I followed all the instructions on the N-GAGE website and i checked the firmware. Everything seems to go fine but in the final stage the UPDATE ERROR occurs. So i hooked it up with USB to my PC. I downloaded the application and tried to install, resulting in the same UPDATE ERROR.
I can not understand that this expensive and state of the art device is not working like it should. The manual of the TETRIS game from the box with the serial number is just kept in the box... I bought something but i can not use it.
I had to bring the first N96 back to the store. I hoped that everything would be solved with this new N96. But also this new device can not install the N-GAGE application.
    Please help me out.
    Thanks in advance, greetings Henk

Ok, so I am seriously at wit's end right now... I have the N81 8gb, with v21.0.010, I have been struggling to update my n-gage for the past 3 days... I updated my firmware a few weeks ago, and everything was fine, I updated my n-gage without any hassles, until I decided to format my phone... BIG MISTAKE!! Anyway, now I can't seem to update my n-gage v1.10 (1349)! What happens is, I try to install v1.20 (1459), and then it gives me "update error", but when I check my application manager, it shows that I do, in fact, have v1.20 installed! I then check in the n-gage app itself, and it shows v1.10! What gives?!
I did the soft reset (*#7370#) to no avail; I did the hard reset (*- green call button - 3) to no avail as well! I have absolutely no idea what the problem is! I formatted my mass memory as well, thinking the problem lay there, but nothing! If anyone has any advice on how to sort this out, it will be much appreciated!

  • Can i install 1TB to macbook pro mid 2009

    hello,
i have a macbook pro mid 2009, 2.66ghz 2 duo and i want to install a new HDD
    can i install 1TB??
what is the biggest HDD storage that the notebook can handle??
and how do i install my mac os x to the new HDD?
    thank you.

The MacBook Pro's take 2.5" SATA hard drives. If you are going to replace the drive, now would be the time to upgrade to a 7200rpm drive; about the largest capacity you will find is 750GB.  Also, since this will be your main hard drive, stay away from any green or blue drives; the supposed energy saving features will also reduce performance.   May I suggest looking at OWC for their recommendations about hard drives for your specific model MBP.
You install OS X via the recovery DVDs that came with your MBP.  One is for OS X, the other contains the Apple applications (iLife, etc).  Of course, that will install the version of OS X that originally came with your MBP (a 2009 MBP probably came with Leopard 10.5).  If you don't have the recovery DVDs, or want to install a later version of OS X, then I suppose you will need to purchase a Snow Leopard DVD and install that before upgrading to Mt. Lion.
