New HD for MacBook... How To Backup Data?

I just bought a 160gb Hitachi drive from OWC for my MacBook. Can anyone give me step by step directions on how to backup my current drive and how do I migrate this data on the new HD? I know how to physically install it but I want to make sure I back it up alright. I've heard about using SuperDuper, but what do I do with that program and how do I migrate?
Thanks

No, I don't have 2 gigs of RAM but as soon as I get the money I will upgrade from OWC! I have found that website (http://www.macsales.com) to be very reliable, quick and they have the lowest prices out there for the highest quality of products.
I searched around the internet to find out which was the best HD to get and what speeds, etc, and I found most went with Hitachi's 160G Travelstar drive. I know I read about many people having issues with Western Digital's model (sudden motion sensor, kernel panics, etc) so even though it was cheaper I knew that was the wrong way to go just by reading people's comments online. I suggest everyone else do the same thing. Do your research, both online and off, and find out what most people are having successes with (and asking on this board is what helped me, too!)
Once I get my increased RAM, then we will officially be twins. lol.
Thanks for your response...
I'm lovin this new drive. I've got my 40 gigs of music on here, my 10,000 photos, all my apps, and I still have like 85 gigs left. Shweet! With the stock 80gb drive, I was already in my teens in HD space!

What is INR? Why not take it to an Apple store or AASP and they'll tell you.

    souvikfromKolkata,
you’ll know as soon as the rest of us do if Apple decide to produce a new non-Retina model. My guess would be that they won’t do so, but that’s only a guess.
With Internet, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint representing your main usage, either a MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air would be suitable for you.

  • How to backup data when hard drive is failing.

I think my hard drive is failing..
I booted using Install DVD, and got message in Disc Utility that "this drive has a hardware problem that can't be repaired." It mentioned I should backup data and consult apple representative..
I clicked on Macintosh HD under the red physical drive (500.11 GB Hitachi HTS) and did disc repair.
Strangely, the message went away on the physical drive when I finished.  It turned back to black wording and gave green "verified/repaired" messages in the log.
I am still able to boot my macbook, although everything is running slowly... Desktop excel files take 15 mins to open.
Does this still sound like a failing hard drive?
I am trying to act fast and borrowed my sister's external harddrive/ "passport for mac", and it slowly prompted a time machine backup. It is slowly working through "8.34GB of 200.33GB"
I do not really understand what I am doing, but hoping this is the right move. Could someone explain what time machine will do or how it will help?
Is there any chance I will harm her external hd?
I am mostly worried about iPhoto and itunes library, iMovie projects, and important excel spreadsheets on my desktop. Is time machine looking after these concerns?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Where is you TM backup?
Where are your external data redundancies?
Now you will need to use very expensive data recovery experts to recover data when you could have had it safely on a $100 worth of 2 external HD.
Mechanical HD failure circumvents using recovery software.......so,  now you backed yourself into a corner and needed expensive data expert recovery.
You took a wrong turn a long while back before reaching this cliff edge.
that wrong term was not having (preferably 2) external HD as a redundant data archive.

  • How to backup data in table?

    hi friends,
How do I backup 1500 rows of data in products table in a database
DB1? (the last column is varbinary type for images)
How do I insert backed up 1500 rows of data in to the products
table (this one has 5 more columns)table in database DB2?
note: DB1.Products table has only 6 columns but DB2.Products table has added 5 columns thus a total of 11
note: I need to backup only the data (if possible) and insert them to the new table
I use sQL server 2008 r2 developer edition
    thanks
I use Visual studio 2012 Ultimate and SQL server 2008 developer edition!

Assuming both databases are on the same server...
    First backup the data...
    Select *
    Into products_bkp
    FROM products
    --WHERE (if any filter condition)
Insert the data into another database.
    USE DB2
    GO
    INSERT INTO products(column_names)
    SELECT column_Names
    FROM DB1.schemaname.products_bkp
    GO
Hope that helps.. Please mark as answer, if this has helped you solve your problem.

  • Preparing new Certificate for Exchange - how to cover the .local domain names

I need to plan out our new certificate for our CAS servers. Exchange 2010 SP3. Our current SAN certificate has several names including our Exchange FQDN's which are exserver.domain.local. I know our CA will not let me generate SAN's with a .local anymore
so how do I cover the Exchange internal FQDN's in the certificate?
I did a get-exchangecertificate and the only certificates I have are the public CA with all the SAN's and Services are IP.WS. The other two Exchange certificates are self signed but only for SMTP "S".
You can only have one certificate for web services "W" so how do you get around the Exchange FQDN? Our internal autodiscover, availability and OOF etc....that Outlook uses all use the Exchange internal FQDN of servername.domain.local.
Even if I generate another Exchange certificate for the server FQDN and submit it to our internal CA, I cannot enable web services on this certificate because my public certificate is already enabled for web services.
Need some help here. I am really stumped on this one.

  • When merging data into a PDF form, can it create a new form for every record in your data set?

I have a vendor database that I want to use to populate a pre-created PDF form in Adobe Pro XI. I figured out how to rename the form data fields and how import the data from my data set but can't figure out how to have it create another copy of the form for the next record in the data set.... if its even possible. Any help is appreciated!

This can be achieved with a mail-merge type script.

  • Buy new battery for MacBook Pro Mid 2010, and in-store installation?

I need to buy a new battery for my MacBook Pro Mid 2010. I was wondering if there was an Apple store where I can buy a new one and have it installed there. i tried Best Buy and they weren't really any help and suggested to go to an Apple store. However, I don't know if I could have them install right there.

its best to make an appointment at your local Apple store.  If they are busy and you walk in without an appointment, they will turn you away.

  • How to backup data from a bad partition?

    Hi,
My HDD in my Macbook Pro crashed due to a frequent uncontrollable on and off, I tried to boot into recovery mode but it won't let me mount the drive so that I can't repair permission, and I also fail to repair the disk neither not even target disk mode to another mac. So I assume my HDD is totally screwed for now, so are there any way to backup any data from this screwed HDD?
    Thank you so very much!
    Jeffero.

You can always try - but there's no guarantee of success.
Which model (e.g., "15" late 2011") MacBook Pro do you have? Need that info...
The first thing that you'll need to do, of course, is buy a new hard drive and install it. Decide on what speed (5400rpm or 7200rpm) you want and then how much space you need.
The second thing is to buy an enclosure for your 'old' HD - I have a number of these from OWC.
The third thing - formatting and installing a working OS on your new hard drive will depend on which model MacBook Pro you have.
Fourth thing - to try to recover data yourself, you're just going to have to pony up $100 and purchase DiskWarrior: now I've never used it - I have tested Data Rescue 3 on undamaged drives with great success -  but I think that in your case DiskWarrior would be the better product. Don't be surprised if it doesn't work - it just offers you the 'best chance' to rescue data.
Once you have your new hard drive installed and bootable, connect your old drive (now in an enclosure) and use DiskWarrior to try rescuing some data. As I said, there's no guarantee here but it's the first thing to try before spending $1000 or so at a data rescue specialist.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Just purchased refurb Macbook - How to backup apps

The Macbook seller did not provide an OS disk, it also has iWork installed. I want to back up the apps (in case of drive failure or catastrophic event). How do I back up the apps (and preserve install settings to avoid repurchasing the software)?

You'll want to have an external hard drive, and either use Time Machine (OS X 10.5 or newer) for backup, or make a clone of your hard drive using SuperDuper! or CCC.  I use, and recommend, hard drives from OWC as many of their cases use Oxford chipsets, which work well with macs.
