NEW HD ON MY MACBOOK. CAN'T INSTALL OS X

I had to replace my HD on my MacBookPro. A new Seagate momentum 500gb 7200rpm was installed.
I did partitioned in 1 Volume.
When I tried to install OS X it gives me a failure notice "Install Failed. Mac OSX could not be installed in your computer. The installer could not copy the necessary support files. Clik restart to restart your computer and try installing again."
Have tried restart, but it is the same result.

thanks for the advise, but the partition and format was ok. the partition map scheme appears as Guid partition table. When I run the Disk Utility First Aid it shows everything is fine. I have created one volume only with the Mac OS Extender (Jorurnaled) format. The write status is Read/Write, the SMART status is verified. But when I try to install MAC OS X from the installation DVD it starts doing it, and suddenly when everything seems to be running ok, it just stops. Could it be that the DVD with the MAC OS X is corrupted? How can I verify that?? Also, is it better to have more than 1 volume in the partition?

  • Update 10.4.10 destroyed Macbook, can't install Leopard on reformatted HD

    Hello,
I recently installed update 10.4.10 on my Macbook. After the update was installed, I was unable to drag any icon outside of it's existing window, firefox, adium, and thunderbird would no longer open, I was unable to run my music recording software and the computer became pretty much inoperable. So I figure now would be the best time to do a full and fresh install of Leopard.
I went out and bought a copy of Leopard and did an erase and install, to rid myself of any problems that may have been internally caused by update 10.4.10 and I get an error that says "Install Failed. The source media may be damaged. Try the install again." So I returned the disc to the nearest Apple store and tried the install with the new one. I got the exact same error, even after reformatting my HD. Every once and a while I'll get an install error that says there is a problem with /MacHD/Volumes/... (which is beyond me). I've ruled out the possibility of an HD problem or CD drive problem because I can still install my original version of Tiger. I've also tried just upgrading from Tiger to Leopard and I get the same error messages. Can some Please help me on this.
I bought a Mac so I wouldn't have these kinds of problems and now my business is suffering because my (new) Macbook can't run the (new) operating system. I feel that Leopard should beable to run on my new machine.
ps. I contacted apple support over the phone and they are sending me a new copy of leopard in the mail.
ANY HELP OR IDEAS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Not so fast. I'm an admin servicing about 3 dozen Intel iMacs (the white ones) and 2 out of the 6 I've gone to upgrade to Leopard (via archive install) have given me the same message.
I've also had an intel MacBook Pro (1 out of 12 we have) give me this message as well, but it snapped out of it. I've also noticed on several of the MacBook Pro upgrades to Leopard that the hard disc did not show up in the Select Drive install window. I found that if I let it sit there a while (anywhere from 2-15 minutes) eventually the hard drive suddenly appears and I can install.
The white intel iMac I'm dealing with now (regarding the Bad Media) message is a dead end. I've tried two different Leopard discs. Then I tried putting the Leopard disc in a powerbook, booting the iMac into FireWire mode and mounting it to the powerbook. Then running the Leopard install from the powerbook but choosing the intel imac hard drive. I did this to eliminate a bad CD/DVD drive in the imac. No dice.
Finally I opened the thing and replaced the hard drive. After trying to install Leopard into the iMac with a NEW hard drive I still got the message "Can't install ... bad media source ... " etc. message.
Right now I'm installing on another identical iMac and it is proceeding as normal. When done I'm going to use CopyCatX to dup the install.
Never had anything like this with new installs of Apple OS's.

    Many thanks.
Try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

Does that go through any better for you?

  • New HDD in a MacBook Air, Apple installed 10.5.8  Want to do a clean SL

Apple care was nice enough to replace the failed drive in my MacBook Air, but rather than installing the OSX 10.6.2 that was on there, they installed the factory 10.5.8. I would have taken it back, but I was on a business trip, and had to get out of Dodge....
I'd like to do a clean install, but am unclear how to do it by remote disk with a newly erased drive. I do not have a super drive.
If I erase and reformat the drive, how can I access remote disk?
Should I just do an update and not be so anal?

The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list. The App Store which is required to download 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion is part of the 10.6.6 update.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=10.6+snow+leopard&_sacat=0&_odkw=mac+os+10.6 &_osacat=0
The model 4,1 Early 2008 MacBook will not be able to run Mountain Lion, but it can run 10.7 Lion. Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store.  The price is $20.
It's mainly the video card. The Models 2,1 through 4,1 have video cards with non-upgradeable 32bit drivers. The model 5,1 Late 2008 and newer have at least the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 64bit drivers. Mountain Lion requires 64bit native drivers. Mountain Lion no longer supports Intel's GMA 950 or GMA X3100 graphics processors.
While Lion used some 32 bit and a lot of 64 bit code, Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.

  • IP4 - new user account on Macbook - can't synch with itunes

I'm hoping someone can help me. I had trouble with my user account on my Macbook, rendering it unusable due to constant paging, so I created a new one, and have been transferring my data across. I find that I can't sync my iP4 (iOS 5.0.1) though. I get this error:
The iPhone "[device name]" cannot be synced. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.
Does anyone have any idea how I can correct this? I can't find anything in the iTunes preferences or context specific menu from the device item in the list to alter access privileges. Nor can I find anything in the phone's settings to correct this. I have rebuilt most of my library manually in iTunes and can back up the phone, but can't sync past 'step 3' as the error crops up at 'step 4' (of 7). This means I can't add new content that I have added to my library.
Do I have to do a restore and start from scratch? That seems insane, given I have authorised the new user as one of my five computers, and am authenticated as the same Apple ID as the phone.

Okay, I have fixed this manually (read: laboriously), with permissions changes, file movements, and much exporting from devices and importing to iTunes. What a pain though. Surely it's not meant to be this painful!

  • Toshiba Tecra S3 - New SSD stuck on JBOD, can't install windows on it

I just got myself a Kingston V series 64gb SSD drive, but I'm unable to have it detected by windows installers.
After looking around, I found that drives in Tecra S3 have to be on "1RAID 0" and not JBOD to enable windows to
be installed on it. (unless you use the recovery CD, which I don't have right now, even if I wanted to use it)
I also found that the "string" needed to get the BIOS to change it when you get to "execute creation"
    is 1,2,3,4, [enter].
But here's the catch : +the BIOS ignores the string.... +
I type the string, 1234, [enter], and it cancels my desired change as if I said NO and set it back to JBOD.
(if I don't type the right string, it just get out of it but stays 1raid0 and "execute creation" is still there)
I tried on one of my other drives, and it worked fine, but for some reason this drive doesn't seem to want me to do it.
I tried the drive on USB (works fine) and the BIOS sees it for what it is, so the drive is working well (from my testing)
Any Ideas on what to do now would really be appreciated, I'm running out of ideas on what I didn't do correctly
    Thanks!

    Hi
    > I just got myself a Kingston V series 64gb SSD drive, but I'm unable to have it detected by windows installers
Did you include the RAID driver into Windows before you have tried to install OS again?
On the Toshiba European driver page you can find the RAID driver which should be included while Windows installation setup.
    Regarding the BIOS RAID change;
Im not quite sure but it could be possible that you cannot change the RAID option due to the SSD drive.
If other HDDs work properly and if the RAID can be changed using an common HDD then the issue is related to the new SSD drive.
Maybe you need to update the firmware on the SSD drive check it.

  • How many macbooks can you install an app on, how many macbooks can you install an app on

I want to know if it is acceptable to install an app purchased on one macbook on a second macbook?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
The license for apps from the Mac App Store (MAS) allows you to install the app on as many Macs as you own or have in your control, such as a Mac from an employer or educational institution.

  • Aready had an account my computer crashed and had it repaired they put in a new hard drive now I can't install the new download how do i fix this

Already had an account had to have a new hard drive put in my lap top they wiped out my info I need to install the new download
but I keep getting an erroe message " unable to download itunes 64 setup exe. The connection to this server was reset". What do I do?

This completely *****. iTunes lists none of my music, although the music is on my iPod. When I click on the sync button, it starts to sync -- for about 5 seconds -- and does nothing. So I had to manually import all of my music from my hard drive into iTunes, but it still won't sync. Same thing with videos and photos.

  • I'm new to Firefox. I can't install it. Windows give message this is not a Win32 application. How do I install the setup?

When I click on setup icon for Firefox, I get 'this is not a valid Win32 application'. I don't have any other details I could give. It simply just doesn't load or open.

Oh, we are sorry for that. Download 7-Zip from(http://www.7-zip.org/). Install 7-Zip. Download Mozilla Firefox from (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.6.13&os=win&lang=en-US). Now instead of opening Firefox Setup, right-click it, click 7-Zip and then choose Extract to "Firefox Setup 3.6.13"\. A new folder with the name Firefox Setup 3.6.13 will be created. Double-click Setup.exe in the Firefox Setup 3.6.13 folder.

  • I got a brand new windows 7 computer and can not install itunes

I tired to install itunes on my new windows 7 professional 64 bit computer. I downloaded "iTunes64Setup.exe" and get during execution of that program the error message:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
Does anybody know what to do to get this install running to completion?

"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
That's an interesting variation. It's a 1723 error message. (1721 and 1722 are more common.)
Even though the following user tip is about slightly different errors (the 1721 and 1722), perhaps try it with your one too:

  • New tryin to learn MAC: Can't install 10.3 onto PowerMAC G4

i used the ALT key to boot to the blue screen! but it shows NO drives at all, and i have a 100GB & 160GB seagate installed inside my powermac G4!

Just as an addendum to my first response, you should get an Apple keyboard to get started with this machine. Used keyboards run as little as $5.
Also, when you finally do get booted to the OS install disk, before you can install, you will need to use Disk Utility to format the hard drives. Use Mac OS Extended-Journaled as the format when doing so.
    1. Insert the Mac OS X CD.
    2. Restart the computer.
    3. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold the "C" key to start up from CD.
    4. When the Installer screen appears, do not click Continue. Instead, choose Installer > Open Disk Utilities.
    5. Select the hard drive to erase.
    6. Click the Erase tab.
    7. Select the volume format from the Volume Format pop-up menu.
    8. Click OK.
    9. Click Erase.
