New HD, same iPhone. Can't sync. Ugh.

The internal harddrive on my white MacBook died last week and I had it replaced at the Apple Store. So with that, my iTunes library and the contacts saved to my computer are gone. Luckily my music was backed up on an external, but now I am unable to sync my iPhone because of the one iTunes syncing rule. I can erase the iPhone and reassign it to this iTunes, but with that all of my contacts and apps that are the phone now will be deleted. Is there any way I can save the contents of my iPhone and reassign it to this iTunes so I can put more music on it and generally sync it with iTunes?

As long as you have at least one unique contact and calendar entry in you computer, you should get the option to merge the data.
You should be abel to re-download the Apps for free.

  • New comp, same iphone, want to keep music - sync w/o losing purchases?

I'm getting a new computer because my old one crashed and before I do anything I want to make sure I set everything up correctly so that I can sync my iPhone with my new computer/itunes without losing all the purchased music I have on there.
Since my current computer is completely useless and collecting dust, I haven't synced or update my iphone with it in over two months. Do I need to do anything special or in a particular order when setting up my new computer so that I don't lose the music I have on it?
Only reason I ask is because a friend of mine recently updated her iphone and lost all of her music for no reason and can't get it back.

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.
First you will need to authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. Apple includes no option to transfer photos from your iPhone that were transferred to your iPhone from a computer since photos transferred from your computer are optimized for viewing on your iPhone as part of the iTunes sync/transfer process - the original resolution of these photos is reduced on your iPhone.
If you will have Outlook 2003 or 2007 available on your new computer, before syncing contacts and calendar events with Outlook, enter one contact and one calendar event in Outlook. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
If you will be syncing contacts only with Windows Contacts, the same applies before the first sync for contacts with Windows Contacts.
Only reason I ask is because a friend of mine recently updated her iphone and lost all of her music for no reason and can't get it back.
All iTunes content on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and your iTunes library should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data on your computer's hard drive such as photos, documents, etc. stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only. The iPhone is not designed or intended to be a backup storage device.
After purchasing/downloading anything from the iTunes store with your iPhone, the iTunes content should be transferred to your iTunes library on your computer with the first sync with iTunes after doing so.
There is no reason why your friend lost any iTunes content on her iPhone - not if she syncs her iPhone with iTunes on her computer on a regular basis.
Now is a good time to invest in an external hard drive used for backup purposes only. It isn't a matter of time but when your computer's hard drive has a partial or complete failure. Not maintaining a backup for all the important data on your computer's hard drive is playing Russian roulette with your important data.

My Ipod was originally set up as a sub-account of a firends.  After that, I got an Iphone and set up my own Apple account.  I just got a new Ipod, and now can't sync my old Itunes to it. Can anyone help me? I'm even OK with deleting the old Itunes account, and staring over.  I just really want to get the new Ipod under my own account, and be able to use it...

There is no such thing as a "sub-account."  Also, you probably mean iTunes library, when you say "account."  Your "account" in iTunes is your Apple ID, which is what you use to sign in to the iTunes Store to make purchases.  iPods are associated with an iTunes library, not with an Apple ID (iTunes Store account).  You'll need to clarify...
So, this is what I think you are saying.  You previously shared an iTunes library on a computer with your friend.  Your old iPod was synced to that iTunes library.
You got an iPhone, and at that time, you set up your own iTunes library.  Is that on a different computer?  How does the iPhone affect your question about the iPod?
You got a new iPod.  What is your "old iTunes"?  Is that the iTunes library you shared with your friend?

  • I decided to change my apple id on my iphone 5 to have a seperate account from the other people in my family. I changed all of the setting to the new id and I can't sync apps or music to my phone and i dont know what else to do. Please help!!!

If you didn't already do so, authorize your computer for the new ID by opening iTunes and going to Store>Authorize This Computer.  Then sync your phone with iTunes.

  • Hey there, I have an iPhone 3g that was synced to my computer. My computer got stolen with all my music on it. I have a new computer but I can't sync my computer to my iPhone. How can I recover everything that's on my iPhone 3g to my computer?

If your backup copy of your computer was not stolen, then use it to put everything back.
Otherwise, authorize your computer for your itunes account, connect iphone, do not sync, Click:  File>Transfer Purchases
This will transfer itunes purchases from the iphone to the computer.
Enter at least one unique contact and calendar entry on the new computer.  When you first sync, then you should get the option to merge the data.

  • An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time

I recently bought a MacBook Pro, and I figured it would be pretty simple to move my iPhone to sync with iTunes on the Mac from iTunes on my pc, afterall it is the same program and both are designed for the iPhone.
I have been successful in getting the Contacts and Calendar to sync, but the Music, Applications, Video and a few other things give me this message when I check the sync box:
"The iPhone is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase the iPhone and sync with this iTunes library? An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."
Obviously, I don't want to erase everything. Actually, I don't care about Music, Videos, Podcasts or Ringtones as I don't have any, but I do care about Photos and Applications. Actually Photos I can reload too, but I don't want to loose the apps I have purchased with the iTunes App Store.
I even tried going back to the PC and unchecking the Sync boxes on it, hoping this might disassociate it from the phone, but now even on that PC I get the same message.
How do I disconnect phone from the old iTunes and be able to sync it to the new iTunes? This should be simple right?

I made an appointment with a Mac Genius and I will say that while it was better than getting to talk to India on a poor quality phone call it was just about as helpful. Sure she was cute and friendly, but I left without my issue resolved and was surprised that I didn't even get a followup from anyone asking about my experience (hence my venting here)
Anyway, I found a solution for my issue here: http://tinyfish.net/2008/07/18/how-to-sync-iphone-with-multiple-computers/
This is a real solution to the issue, and has the benefit that I can do this to as many machines as I need and sync at any of them instead of just one. Hopefully, Apple doesn't delete my response since it truly is the answer to the problem and others might be looking for the same solution.

  • HT1386 When I connect my iPod Touch to a new laptop (Macbook Air) the "Info" tab won't appear and therefore I cannot sync it with my new iTunes. How can I sync this iPod with the iTunes on my new laptop?

When I connect my iPod Touch to a new laptop (Macbook Air) the "Info" tab won't appear and therefore I cannot sync it with my new iTunes. How can I sync this iPod with the iTunes on my new laptop?

There is no Info tab in Mavericks
if you use OS X v.10.8.5 or earlier. If you use OS X Mavericks v.10.9 or later, your contacts, calendars, and other info are updated on your computers and iOS devices via iCloud. For more information, see iCloud Help at icloud.com.

Maybe you should get new friends.
I'm not sure that recovery mode works when you have to trust the computer, but did you try it?
If you can't update or restore your iOS device - Apple Support
If that won't work, perhaps you can use Find my iPhone from a computer in your iCloud.com account to erase the device.
iCloud: Erase your device - Apple Support
This has nothing to do with the Find my iPhone app being installed on the phone, but you do have to have Find my iPhone activated in the iCloud settings on the phone.

You might consider itunes match for moving CDs you've copied into your itunes library if you dont have a way to use home sharing.
iTunes match is an optional service offered by apple that costs about $25 a year.  It scans your music library and if it finds music that is already in apple's itunes catalog it'll automatically "unlock"/"store" these in the cloud for you.  Items that it does not find in the catalog it'll upload and store these in the cloud for you and you can download them on your devices.  See http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/

  • IPhone can only sync with one computer?

Well I'm not even really syncing my iPhone, I set it to manual so I could pull songs off of my cousins computer because I don't put many songs on mine. But I went over his house and said I had sync it thus I had to delete all the songs off my iPhone so I could get his... I didn't do it but I have to ask, is this suppose to happen? Or is there a way around it like I could do with my iPod?

Only iTunes content and any photos transferred from the computer that was used for syncing the iPhone.
Transfer your iTunes library from your computer's backup which should include other important data such as documents and photos, etc.
