New HDD "Not Exist"

Help!
I have an old HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx and my hard drive recently crashed. I had a WD Scorpio Blue 320g installed.
I purchased a WD Scorpio Blue 500g HDD (wd5000bpvt) as a replacement. However after installing I continue to receive a message that it does not exist. ???
On start up I get a 3F0 error code. Boot Device Not Found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk.
Under system diagnostics I run a hard disk test and it says Hard Disk Not Exist. I get the same message under BIOS in diagnostics under Primary Hard Disk Self Test.
I tested the HDD on some equipment at my works IT department and it was running and functional.
Any reasons why my computer won't recognize it?
We also made a smaller partition to see if the smaller sized drive would help but it did not.
Any help would be appricated, thanks

Thanks.
So that I understand you correctly. You are saying that I need an hp recovery disk to restore the lap top to factory settings even though I'll be putting in a new blank HDD?
That is only if you intend to use the original Vista operating system.
You say that the disk is not recognized by the installer.
Check in the BIOS in the system information tab to see if it is seen as present by the BIOS.
You may not have it connected quite correctly if the BIOS does not "see" the drive.
Did you make sure that the drive you chose was compatible with the notebook before buying and installing it?
Here is a question for you. Is the new Windows 7 Operating System a 32 or a 64-bit version?
If you format a hard disk on a 64-bit operating system and try to install a 32-bit operating system on it then the disk will not be seen as present by the Windows 32-bit installer.
A 64-bit OS can see disks formatted by a 64 and 32 bit operating system. A 32-bit OS cannot see a hard disk formatted by a 64-bit operating system.

  • New HDD not seen in Bios

Satellite A65-1068 running Windows XP – original 60GB HDD crashed, tried to replace with same part (Toshiba MK6025GAS) but Bios will not recognize it. Found that after trying to run Toshiba recovery CD and got error 510000004 – assume that’s no HDD since when Bios setup is accessed there is no hardrive listed. Tried the old HDD and – when it spins – Bios still sees it. Tried loading an old XP upgrade disk on this machine and the new HDD, the files are there in a Windows directory but obviously it still won’t boot. Anyone have an idea how to get Bios to see the new HDD. Should I be doing something differently?

    Do not giveitup. ;-)

Normally you need do nothing. I would guess that the HD is not properly connected, have a look at the header on it and in the machine. The new SATA had drive connectors are finiky and easily broken. Specially the small DATA connector.  If all is proper, try the HD into another machine. If this is a new HD it ought to be proper but things happen. As your old HD is seen by your BIOS, I presume that the machine is good.    JP.

  • Re: Qosmio X300 - New HDD not recognized

hello I'm french but i hope you understand me
I have a Qosmio X300-145 and I want add a new harddrive. I bought a Western Digital velocirator 150Gb 2"1/2 but when I install it, the BIOS don't recognize it. My bios is 2.1 version
    If somebody have an idee

    Hi leonardo76,
I think your question is already answered so I dont understand what you expect or waiting for...
Fact is if your new HDD works in another computer but not in Qosmio X300 it seems to be a compatibility issue. Honestly thats not strange because the WD Velociratpor has 10.000 rpm and thats not the normal standard. So you test another model with 5400 or 7200rpm. ;)

  • New HDD not working. Please advise.

    Hello.
Today i purchased a new internal hdd for my 5.53 ghz macbook pro. I purchased the seagate momentus 500 gb 7200 rpm drive as suggested by users. The installation was fine, however i am having several issues with the drive. I boot into the 10.6 install cd and try to install. It says the drive is not journaled. So i try to reformatt using the mac os journaled format, and it locks up and often doesn't complete. i verified the disk, and everything checked out, however i just don't know what im doing wrong as i've never had this problem before. Should i install with the disk that came with the mbp first? Please adise. Thank you!

You might want to look at Kappy's Extended Hard Drive Preparation:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1885474&tstart=60
I suspect there is a problem with how you are trying to format the drive. Follow Kappy's instructions and post back if you still have problems.
    Good luck!

  • New HDD not showing in disk utility

    Help please!
i can up on a broken G5 i have replaced the HDD. now i am trying to install tiger. but the new internal HDD is not showing up in disk utility.
i plugged my passport in and it popped right up.
some one please let me know what you think.

Well, having a had hard drive connected may cause a grey screen (if the system cannot successfully perform a check of connected devices). Not sure about the fan.
If you have not done so yet, be sure to try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not help, you can also try resetting the SMU (power management).
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1767
    Follow the procedure precisely.
It is also possible that the old drive was not bad and your iMac has some other problem. Did you ever test the previous drive on another Mac (or connected externally) to confirm it was faulty? That +other problem+ may be what you are experiencing now.
Also, I asked this previously but, are you able to start up the iMac using the optical drive, with a Mac OS X installation disc in there?

  • New HDD Not Recognised

I recently posted the following information:
I recently updated my iPhone (5) to iOS 8, and decided I might as well update my Macbook Pro to OS X Yosemite. After updating my MacBook for the first time, it started up just fine, but appeared a tad slower than usual. I figured it was due to a lack of applications I usually have running to monitor activity and help free up memory. After reinstalling all the applications I usually have installed on my laptop, it still feeled a tad slower, but nothing to be worried about. After a number of reboots over the course of three days, it suddenly refused to start up properly, showing me an error icon at startup, and shutting down later on.
After having googled around a bit, I read about the possibility of seeing what's wrong by enabling Verbose Mode. After having started up the laptop using Verbose Mode, I was shown the following error: "Error loading kernel cache (0x6)". After googling the error, I read that reinstalling the operating system was the only way to fix the problem. Seeing as I was unable to start up my laptop, I booted it up into recovery mode. As I bought the laptop with Lion preinstalled, it reverted the laptop to Lion, after which the laptop became unbareably slow. I then installed OS X Yosemite through the App Store, which unfortunately fixed neither of my issues.
Whenever I start up my laptop now, I am first presented with the error icon, which disappears after a while starting up normally. Then, when it is finally started up, I am once again presented with an operating that is terribly slow, and keeps freezing. Safari keeps freezing while loading simple web pages, regular applications take terribly long to start up, and every couple of minutes I am presented with "the spinning wheel of death".
After installing an application giving me more insight, I found out that the HDD was the cause of my problems. Thanks to "SMART Utility" I now know the error was an Interface CRC error. After googling for solutions, I ordered a new hard drive (750GB SATA III, Western Digital, 5400 RPM). When I received the hard drive, I installed it in my laptop, and booted into recovery mode. When I then went into Disk Utility (to prepare the drive), I was shown that the laptop didn't recognise the drive. Figuring that it was a malfunctioning hard drive, I ordered a new one from the company I ordered it from, and returned the first one. Friday my new drive arrived, which is giving the same problem; the hard drive is not being recognised by the laptop.
Considering the old hard drive does work (just not properly), I figured it's not the cable causing the new hard drive not to show up. Am I just having real bad luck (in other words, did I receive two broken hard drives), is there some step I'm missing while trying to set up my new hard drive, or is there something else wrong with my laptop?

The only time I recall this happening to me was when I didn't have the SATA connector totally seated into the drive.
When you boot into Internet Recovery (command+option+R) have you launched Terminal and tried the diskutil list command to see what comes back? If you see that your new drive is coming up as disk0 or disk1 or whatever, you could try the diskutil eraseDisk JHFS+ "Macintosh HD" /dev/diskX command where X is 0-9.

  • Rapid Restore Ultra don't resize partition on new HDD

    Hi,
first as a new member,i send many thanks for both Lenovo community and Thinkpad.com Forum members for their great help in the thinkpad users world.....
Following one of the very good advices of Ajikula,i bought a new Samsung HM160HC IDE HDD to upgrade my old Hitachi 60 Gb on my R50p(1832 2ag)...
Previously ,i made a set of Recovery Media CD (19..) with Rapid Restore Ultra ...
You should know that it's the original version of RRU who comes from a previous Restore From Factory Settings, never update it..
On the other hand i run the last Bios and drivers and run XP SP3.
I putted brand new HDD (not formatted neither partitioned) instead of the old one and ran Backup Restore from the boot CD of the set i made..
All run very fine and some hours later all (OS,Programs and data)run fine in the new silent HDD.
The only problem is when i go in Windows "Disk manager" RRU install the same partitions size as they were on the old 60 G HDD,leaving 92Gb of "unalocated space" on the new 160 G HDD...
1)Should i had to format the new HDD before performing the Restore to allow Rapid Restore Ultra to resize the main partition(theHidden IBM service one still the same size obviously)
2)i read in RRU IBM doc any further partitioning lead to problems with RRU use, does that applies to this unallocated space (not already formatted)or just to the other partitions?
In other words, could i format this unallocated space, and IF YES what kind of partition could i create, without disturbing further RRU work (creatind Backups and Restore them..)
Thank you very much for your future help..!!
I apologize for my somewhat approximative english..!!
    Best regards
    Eric
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
so first of all you need to understand, that RnR (Rescue and Recovery) is not an imaging tool, it is a backup tool, which means, that in the backup are multiple informations stored. With information I mean also the alocated space. Which means in reality:
    - you capture a rapid restore backup on a 60GB HDD
    - you restore it on 120GB HDD => this will create only a 60GB partition, where will be all restored
    - if you try to restore it on a 50GB HDD, then you may experience unexpected results, as the backup is expecting a 60GB HDD.
So in this case what you can do is to create a second partition from the rest, that was left from the restore.
What you can create is a NTFS Partition.
Let me know, if you need any more information.
    Cheers

  • HP G56 Notebook Prod id XG773UA#ABA - Hard Disk Not Exist error. I've purchased a new bigger HDD.

Machine will not recover. Hard disk not exist error. Bought new bigger HDD and same problem on doing recovery procedure.
Coulo this be a BIOS battery issue? Please help. Thank you. AJL

Several things can cause the bios to fail recognize the hard dirive.
    0. Try loading bios defaults, save changes on exit of bios, see iff the error persists.
    1. Bad hard drive (try another hard drive)
    2. Bad hard drive data cable (replace cable)
    3. Failed hard drive controller on the motherboard (replace motherboard)

  • New Hard Drive Does not exist!

    Hello,
I have an HP DV6 -3142 Laptop and recently after owning it for around a year, my hard drive seems to have crashed. When I try to boot up the laptop, it asks me to use system repair to "repair" my problem or start windows normally. Booting normally causes the laptop to be stuck at windos and revert back to booting up again (it's like a closed loop!). If i choose to "repair" I get stuck at a blue screen where the HP system recovery is supposed to help me either reset to factory settings or do a system restore. I also did a hard disk test in the BIOS and got an error 303. I had done a bit of research and from what i heard, It was a hard drive problem. I got a new hard drive (Samsung) and now when I try to install windows 7, It says that there are no devices to load windows 7 onto. In other words, the Hard disk does not exist (also did a test in bios). I tried to reseat the hard drive and reset BIOS, it didn't work. Now, when I try booting the new hard drive, it shows me a message saying "Media test failure: check cable".
Any ideas on how i could go about fixing this problem?

    Welcome Larg.
Sorry but it sounds like your new hard drive is DOA.
If you have a SATA to USB I would hook it up to another computer and  test it that way.
Or you may try to install it in another computer and see if you can test it that way.
    Sorry.

  • I have an "old" Apple ID set up 13 years ago.  Apple has now gone to using email address as the apple ID.  I have apps to update and they ask for old ID.  it does not exist.  How can I get the ID on the app changed to the new apple ID

I set up an apple id many years ago when itunes was established.  Within the past year or so, Apple has changed to using email address as user id.  My problem is that I have many applications that I can not update due to the fact that it is asking for the password of the old ID.  It does not exist anymore.  Any ideas on how to get the new apple id associated with the application without deleting the application.  Several of these apps I purchased.

    You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

  • Error on new windows 8.1 project: The type or namespace name 'Foundation' does not exist in the namespace

I upgraded to win 8.1 and VS 2013. I created a new Windows 8.1 C# grid  project and tried to compile it and I'm seeing the  following error: Error 1 The type or namespace name 'Foundation' does not exist in the namespace [my namespace](are
    you missing an assembly reference?)
The errors are in navigationhelper.cs line 59
[Windows.Foundation.Metadata.WebHostHidden] // Foundation has the squigglies
    public class NavigationHelper : DependencyObject
and app.xaml.cs line 68 ==> rootFrame.Language = Windows.Globalization.ApplicationLanguages.Languages[0]; which causes this error: Error 2 The type or namespace name 'Globalization' does not exist in the namespace [my namespace] (are you missing
    an assembly reference?)
Windows phone and mvc projects are working fine and I've installed all the updates and even tried to fix vs 2013.
    Any help Is greatly appreciated.

I did some more investigation and noticed that if I create an app with a "." in the name then this problem occurs. For example create a windows store project with the default name "App1": this will compile.
However if I name the project "App1.Forms" to correspeond with the default namespace I want, then this problem occurs.  Still investigating but anyone should be able to repro it with that step.

  • My new HDD for Macbook pro 13" unibody is not recognized and I am using a new SATA cable

    Hey everyone,
I have a particular problem that I cannot seem to find an answer to.  My new 500gb internal drive for my Macbook Pro 13" unibody is not recognized.  The old HDD broke on me so I bought a new one but my macbook pro would not recognize it.  To troubleshoot that issue I purchased the SATA cable and replaced the old with the new.  The new HDD still will not show up in disk utility.
Please let me know what you think I may have missed or should do.
    Thank you

    jc1388,
Bring it to an Apple store Genius bar (make an appointment, so you don,t have to wait around forever) they will diagnose it for free and tell you your options/pricing. They have more extensive testing tools, maybe your logic board is failing/failed.

  • CS5 Design Standard. Will not activate on new HDD following transfer from old HDD. Shows Error 213.10 Have serial number/s etc.

I recently encountered a problem with a HDD drive. So I had to replace it with a new one. Fortunately I managed to recover the data and applications on the original drive.
However when I transferred and installed the Adobe CS5 Design Standard suite on the new HDD it will not open any of the Adobe applications.
It prompts an error 213.10 each time. I can't see where to deactivate or reactivate.. please advise suggested course of action.
Also, will I be able to successfully access my previous files after the reinstallation/activation?

Reinstall properly. Activation cannot work because in the technical sense it simply isn't there. You screwed it. Run teh cleaner tool if necessary and contact support to reset activations.

What could be the problem. What can i  do to appear those wagetypes in Production Sysytem.
Please advice me to resolve the issue.
    Thanking You.

    Dear Vicky,
If you have this entry in Q system it should be request transfer issue. I have such a cases sometimes.
I recommend go to D system, delete the record from V_T512Z and save the table. System will ask you to create a new request. Create it and put your changes into. Go out of table and come back and create the same record into it save your changes.
Release your request and transfer it again to Q and P. Hope to see  the record in P system.
Otherwise do the method Okan recommended thru SM30. It works also but sometimes recreating the records are the only solution as I know
