New headphone sound quality?

Just curious if anyone can comment on the new headphones? 18-month design? they better represent better sound quality if it took them that long.
so how is the new sound quality?

The supplied ear buds are terrible.
They sound bad & buzz at high volumes.
If you really care about getting the best out of your ipod, then spend a little bit of cash on some decent Sennheiser mx5oo or px100's.

  • Poor headphone sound quality w/ bluetooth

I connected my Motorola S805 headphones using bluetooth in my Mac but the sound quality is pretty bad (yes I am using the Headphone setting and not Headset)...there is a low hissing sound, the quality of sound is extremely poor (the headphones themselves have excellent sound quality when attaching them to my Ipod jabra connector) and they cut in and out constantly. Is this because my keyboard and mighty mouse are connected using bluetooth as well? Is there some sort of bandwith limitation? Any new drivers I need to know about. This is ridiculous......

I am bumping this post because I want to set up a wireless bluetooth workstation for my MBP- keyboard, mouse and headphones. I don't hear a lot of people talking about this type of setup. I would primarily be using the setup for gaming.
Did you get your headphones to work properly?

  • N96 to n86 headphone sound quality

    Hi,
Im upgrading from my n96 to a n86 and would like to know about the headphone quality from the n86 as the sound quality from my n96 i thought was exellent. I use the phones music player everyday around 2 hours on my daily commute so this is a major feature for me.
    Thanks

    Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Note: Data will not be affected but settings will be reset.

  • Downloaded new song - sound quality crappy

The songs sound quality seems to fade in and out.....  Not across the board for all songs but I have notice that some songs seem poor
Can I erase and download a second time???

If you are in an iTS that supports a d/l from the cloud then delete the tune from your library. From the main iTS page in the Quicklinks section - Purchased. From there you can find the way to d/l the tune again.

  • Headphone sound quality extremely poor, why?

Had dust in the head phone socket, cleared this out and now the sound is extremely poor quality. Is the socket damaged beyond repair?

I've tried that, and numerous headphones in the iphone. It's definitely the phone.
    Thanks anyway

  • Headphone Sound Quality

Macbook Pro Headpone output support 24bit 192KHz music  ? When I play HD Audio CD in macbook pro.

192KHz is far, far above the frequency range that human ears can hear (20Hz-20KHz, though the high end falls off to 10-14KHz as we age).

  • Having trouble with sound quality

I have had this iPod Touch 2nd Generation for almost 2 years now, and I'm starting to have some troubles with it. The headphone sound quality is now starting to deteriorate. Unless the headphones are plugged in a specific way, either one bud goes out, or the sound quality goes down, as there is a lot of static and crackling, and I've had experiences with it actually shocking my ears while I'm listening.
I have tried a new pair of headphones, and this does nothing.
My iPod is obviously beyond the manufacturer's warranty, and it's up-to-date with the latest update. Is there anything I can do?

Sounds like your headphone jack may need replacing.

  • Not the Average "sound quality" post

I import using Apple losless converter. I am aware of the general manufacturing specs that allow my speakers to sound like Rice Crispies, (which is generally lame.) This being said, I move forward to my point.
All of my low end frequencies distort, but NOT just through my speakers. It is extremely noticable even when using high grade head phones, so what's the deal here? I get the same distortion but to a lesser degree when I export to my Ipod nano, using high end head phones, which do not distort, on the nano as well. I have a 60 gb Ipod video which is formated for windows that has the same CD's imported at the same time (i.e. ruling out disc failure) which does not suffer sound degradation. Please help!

i've been looking for similar problem which i have...
i just updated Itune7.2 to Itune7.3 and all music files has been ****** up in my itune library....
then i installed 7.2 but still my music files are ******...
its sounds like can't handle bassline... which has nearly dying.. very quiet.
and high quality sound is a bit distorted. and try to play around 192kpbs-320kpbs... only bassline or low sound can't handle to catch up with high sounds.
but i found out that all happening was.. when i used my headphone sounds quality was ****. and i switched speaker (after i read this post ) it sounds all right ... and i put my headphone is back... its all sorted.
how weird! it might need a time to settle down for iTune7.2
or something problem with plug-in settings in mac.

i think somehow something effected to on your itune library.
have you upgraded your iTune recently ? stay in 7.2 if you can.
and try to plug in/out with your headphone jack or speaker jack.
to let to know your mac.and restart as well.
there is some people has problem about iTune library after upgrade to 7.3
not complaine about sound quality but still something going on in iTune library.
i wanna listen to good quality sound with my lovely headphones.

  • New Ipod Touch 5g, poor sound quality?

    Hi,
I recently got given a silver ipod touch for christmas, after having had a 5G nano ipod for a few years. i had always had no problem with sound quality with that ipod. However, I have noticed that even with my Bose headphones and on my Bose dock, certain songs heavy in bass (seems to be a lot of hip hop), such as my Jay-Z and Drake albums, the bass is very bad and fuzzy and messy. It sounds terrible. I have listened to the very same songs through my Macbook Pro through headphones and there is no problem. All my music is from itunes/amazonmp3/CDs so I don't understand whether my ipod is faulty or whether this is just how the new Ipod Touch is? If so I am returning it pronto! I need my bass!

    Try:

  • How can I improve the sound quality of my new iPod?

    Hey there,
I just received my new iPod with my new MacBook Pro computer.
I have read every bit of documentation i received plus I have scoured resources here on the forum, but I am baffled.
I just synced my iPod for the first time to my Macbook, iTunes,
With the supplied earbuds (from the iPod), the sound is not very good at all. In fact, it the sound of each song seems to break up quite a bit, and the clarity is not very good.
As an experiment, I plugged the earbuds directly into my MacBook using the same songs, same quality, etc, and the MacBook sounds decidedly better.
What can I do to improve the tonal quality that is so lacking in my iPod compared to the same recordings on my computer?
    Any tips? Tricks?
    Thanks for your input.
    Joel

Ok Joel, I think I have the answer for you.
First, the iPod sound. The 5th Gen iPod is a good sounding unit. It has been designed to have a flat, neutral - uncoloured - sound, which is a good thing.
There should not be that much of a difference in sound quality between the iPod and the MacBok Pro. Are you sure that all settings are equal on both units? For instance, make sure that the eq is flat on both units, and same goes for the output level. For the same material being played, the louder one will be perceived as sounding better.
There are ways to improve dramatically the sound you hear from your iPod: (a) better headphones (b) a mini, portable headphone amp.
    (a) better headphones: For a good roundup, check out these two sites:
    http://store.earphonesolutions.com/shureearphones.html
    http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=2
I would say that the new Shure E500 (around US$450) would be on top of my list, price not being an issue. It seems like they're good no matter what you're listening to. All others seem to sound good on, say, classical/acoustic, but are way too flat - read boring - for modern music, such as techno or house, or R&B. The brand "Etymoyics" fall into this category, for example. But then again, some people would disagree, so read as much as you can on one of the forums I mentioned above, Headfi - really good.
    (b) mini headphone amp: These are very small and portable, and people who have bought them swear by them. Check out Headfi again, this time on their amp forum:
    http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=3
Think about spending about around $500 for a great little portable amp. They're made by enthusists, small-scale companies. Real jewels, some of them, and I mean jewel in terms of quality, not just looks.
Anyway, this should get you started...Good luck.
    A.

  • New iPod Touch Sound Quality

I am really interested in comparisons of sound quality between the various generations of iPod.
Unquestionably, compression method and headphones play a critical factor, but taking these aside, I would be interested in people’s comments on particularly the 2nd Generation iPod Touch, and if anybody is aware of any technical analysis to compliment their listening views.
Has the sound quality changed over this last year with new software releases for the iPod touch in general?
I am aware of Mark Heijliger’s excellent analysis up to the 6G iPod at http://homepage.mac.com/marc.heijlig...surements.html, and was wondering if anybody was aware of a similar analysis for the iPod Touchs.
Finally (sorry!), with the new 120GB iPod Classic, does this have the same Cirrus Logic audio codec chip as the older 80GB and 160GB versions. I.e. can I presume that the sound quality (which has been questioned by a number of posters on this forum) is going to be the same?

Well I don't have time to experiment in detail with and document technical analyses about the device but I will say that I did briefly compare it to the 2nd generation Nano as well as my home stereo using the same files (a couple of 256kbit AAC files ripped by myself in iTunes 8; one rock and one hip hop) several times and I enjoyed the resulting similarity throughout the various sources.
I'm quite content with the sound quality coming from this device... and I'm pretty anal about these things generally.

  • New 32GB unacceptable sound quality... docked

I purchased a new 32GB iTouch yesterday. I like all the features, and the new apps as well... BUT, the sound when docked in my car is TERRIBLE.
I have had several generations of iPods, the last being a 30GB Video (Gen5), so I can compare easily. The car setup is a USA Spec (PA11-VOL) directly into the head unit, which provides excellent sound and control via my steering wheel controls.
The Gen5 when paused, during playback, is nearly silent. You have to really crank the volume before you even know it's on (and if you hit play your ears would hurt).
I connected up the Touch this morning before my drive to the office, and instantly was amazed at all the NOISE. Whirring, clicking and squealing! I couldn't believe my ears. I have always enjoyed my iPods before, and thought something was really wrong. Bad unit or something, I told myself. I then Googled for info, and looked here for posts... and realized, I'm not the only one!
I had read a few posts from people saying that WiFi was the culprit, some disagreed. I tried disabling it for the ride home, and it did nothing to improve the sound.
Last night after syncing, and trying out the Map application, I was so impressed. So many great features AND 32GB (finally!) for my library. I couldn't wait to try it out today... but the sound quality killed it for me, and after all that's why I bought it... to listen to music!
I'm at a loss now as to options... return it and try another, or just return it.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

I have a JVC AVX2 head unit with Aux-input. I know that the JVC iPod adapter that I have is not supported by the iPod Touch, though it did work with the iPod Classic. Still when I connect the Aux-input directly to the headphone jack the sound quality is very very good. I hear no noise at all not even a hissing. My JVC does give me the ability to match the output level of all my other devices plugged into it. So, I don't have to turn my iPod touch up all the way. I've been very, very pleased with the SQ, though I wish it worked via the iPod adapter. Perhaps at some point JVC will put out a compatible version of their adapter, but if not I am content to use the iPod Touch via the headphone jack and aux-input.
Try plugging your aux-input directly into the iPod's headphone jack and see if you get this same noise. If I was a betting mine I'd bet the culprit is this USA Spec (PA11-VOL).
One thing I have repeatedly read is that the iPod Touch doesn't support all the accessories that previous versions of the iPod did. So you may also be dealing with this as well.

  • Has Apple addressed poor sound quality issues with new 160GB iPod classic?

I just bought a new 160GB iPod classic, replacing a perfectly good 80GB iPod Video (5.5), thinking that the newer one would be superior to my 3 year old model. I discovered that the sound of the new unit was flat and muddy compared to the older model. I found that the 5th gen iPod video was more "spacial", if that's an appropriate word to use; the bass was more present and more clearly defined, as was the rest of the sonic spectrum. I searched several forums to research this issue and while there were numerous references to this issue, all of the posts I found referred to the original iPod classics (80GB and 160GB) and not the later 120GB classics nor the new 160GB classics like the one I bought. Has Apple done anything to address this issue since the first classics were released or are the new ones still suffering from the same sound quality issues as the original classics?

Based on your observations here, they apparently have not changed the sound quality since the original 160GB classic. I noticed a clear narrowing of the sound stage (ambiance) between the 5.5G 80Gb and my 6G 160GB. You're describing the same characteristic. I don't own the newest 160GB version and came here today to see if it might have improved the sound quality back to the 5.5 spaciousness. Note that the 5.5G has a higher signal to noise ratio than the 6G, making it difficult for me to enjoy it through efficient balanced armature in ear monitors like the Shure SE530s or Ulimate Ears Triple.Fi 10s.

  • Why such sorry sound quality on iTunes? On some of my purchases the sound level is suppressed on the audio. On others the volume is so low that if I have it set for another song and a new one starts I have to increase the volume to hear it.

There is so much distortion on some of the music I have to play it with QuickTime to get a "clean" track.
What can be done to get a consistent volume level or is this another typical Apple product that you have to take what you get and be happy because it's not a Microsoft product?

If that's the best you can do why don't you get on another forum?
