New Help Pls! Sound Card Not Detected

Hello,
I decided to re-install windows 7 because it has been a long time since I had a "clean" install. I had my Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-FI Xtreme Gamer installed and it worked fine. But after I re-installed windows 7, the sound card would not be detected.
Because this happened to me last time I installed windows 7, I wiped my system dri've (C) and re-installed windows. However, this did not fixed the issue because the card is still not detected and it shows yellow in the device manager.
In my second install, I removed the card before installing windows because I thought it would detect it after the installation but it didn't.
I have tried installing manually, but it says:
Creative X-Fi Audio Processor (WMD) not found
I am really running out of ideas here and I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to fix this.

I just tried to move the sound card to another PCI slot, I uninstalled the devices in the media manager, turned off the PC and switched the card. I made sure there was no dust.
I also disabled onboard audio. When I turned the PC back on the computer tried to install drivers for new devices but failed. I still cannot install my drivers -.-
If it helps, the card shows as "Multimedia Audio Controller" under "Other Devices"...

  • Sound card not detecting digital cab

I'm having a problem getting the digital out to work on my X-Fi Gamer. I purchased the card and also the breakout box that provides s/pdif i/o via coax and digital through the /8 jack. I connect it via an optical cable to my surround receiver. I've installed all the proper software, etc, and I can get absolutely no sound.
My thought is that the card is not detecting my optical connection. In the "flexijack" options everything is grayed out and I cannot choose digital at all. In speaker set up it has the analog connections marked at plugged in (with cords coming out) and not the flexijack connection. Only the flexijack is plugged in on the card, though. Per other posts on the boards I've made sure no other sound devices are set as default, and my onboard sound is disabled completely. I'm using a creative approved adapter (the digital i/o box) with a working cable, and working receiver. Any help would be really appreciated.
I'm running windows Media Center XP 2005, by the way.

Hey MrE, did you ever get this issue sorted?
I had exactly the same symptoms recently with my new system build, and it ended up being caused by a conflict with my video card.  When I booted the system using the motherboards onboard video, my ice1712 card would then be detected by ALSA and worked as it should.
I ended up moving my video card to the 2nd / bottom PCI-E on my motherboard and this got around the issue

  • Lenovo T500 Sound Card not detected

    Hey All,
I'm having trouble with lenovo sound drivers since I just did a fresh install of windows 7 onto my T500. The audio worked before this reinstall and as soon as i did it, the sound stopped.
The issue seems to be that there is no audio device at all in device manager, there is also no question mark, other devices either.  There is also a no audio output device pop up when i mouse over the speaker at the bottom of the taskbar. I have tried running the windows 7 audio driver from the lenovo website, at first it didn't work and gave a could not find a MEDIA device error but by putting all the files in one folder it did run but there was no devices in the selection box and it seemd to have no effect.
I have tried updating all lenovo updates and all windows updates with multiple fresh installs. Everything i have done i have done as an admin and regardless i am completely unable to get an kind of audio device installed.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jared

Hi and welcome to the forum Jared!
Try putting BIOS settings to default.
Also, try to boot from a LiveCD of any popular linux distro like Ubuntu, LInux etc. If you also don't get sound in linux, then this is probably hardware problem.
    Keep us posted.

  • Which model of my new X-Fi sound card? (880 vs. 886)

4Which model of my new X-Fi sound card? (880 vs. 886)O Hi,
I've bought this new X-Fi sound card yesterday.
My card is PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro Series
My wonder why the model number is SB0880? I expected it has to be SB0886. I feel very confuse because I can not define version to download driver & application for it.
    As I know:
    - SB0886: X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro, X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Champion
    - SB0880: PCI-Express X-Fi Titanium, X-Fi Titanium
I need to know which model of my sound card exactly. Some guys pls help me!
    Thank you very much.
Message Edited by M4trx on 04-07-2009 :20 PM

Both cards are exactly the same with the exception that the Fatalty Pro version having an EMI shield and 64 MB of X-RAM (which to my opinion is more of a marketing gimmick then it is of any actual use). As far as I can tell, both cards do perform exactly the same in terms of gaming and SQ. The only problem is now the price... the Fatalty Pro version has a premium price over the vanilla Titanium card! So what did you pay for it'sMessage Edited by boon2 on 04-08-2009 0:7 AM

  • Audio / Sound Card not working after Soundblaster.USB.Audio.Support.pkg

Ok, first - confess - it was stupid. I installed the Soundblaster.USB.Audio.Support.pkg package, which i downloaded from the internet, to make the harman Kardon Soundsticks (USB-Version) working, as nothing happened when plugging them in.
First, it ruined the mouse working after reboot and also disabled the internal sound card, not even as device available anymore. I fixed the mouse problem by installing IOUSBFamily-281.4.0-log(PPC).dmg
How can I make the sound card be available and working again ? I also updated to 10.4.11. Did not help ! Can you ? Thanks !

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
First, look in system preferences, accounts, and for your login account look at login items to see if there is a Soundblaster USB module that is loaded when you reboot your system. Delete it if there is one.
If you updated to 10.4.11 by software update, download the combo update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html . The combo update is a complete update for all updates to 10.4, and installing the combo sometimes fixes odd things.

Read the documentation at the links.  They won't hurt your data.
Basically smc reset is shutdown, pull your plug for 15 seconds, plug it back in, wait 5 seconds, and reboot.  Harmless to you.  Resets the smc.
Pram reset is similar but you need to push commnd-option-P-R after the boot chime.  Read what does.

  • Sound Blaster Live 24-bit PCI Sound Card and Creative Sound Blaster PCI Card not detect

Ok here is my problem. I bought a Creative Sound Blaster PCI sound card a while back and it was working fine but recently when I would boot up my computer and try to play music say off of Winamp it says Bad DirectSound Driver. When I check device manager it shows no sound card there and in sounds and audio devices it says no audio device. Now my brother believed this to be a card fault so we went to Frys and bought a Sound Blaster Li've 24-bit PCI card. I uninstalled the old drivers and installed this new one but yet it's the same problem. My assumption was that Windows XP had something conflicting so I reinstalled the OS. It found the card and I installed the latest drivers?off of this site but now it does the same thing yet again with a fresh install of Windows XP. The card has been in all 3 of my PCI slots and it will detect it for a moment but then acts like as if the card was never installed. Like I never installed a sound card into the computer. The onboard audio has been disabled for a while now but I do not know what the problem could be. I did Scan for hardware changes but it doesn't show up. Sometimes when the card is detected if I do scan for hardware changes and the card is there it will just magically disappear from the device manager as if it was never there. Even when I try to load music and I see the card is detected it will not play the music and ends up locking up Winamp to the point that sometimes will go BSOD. Now I would really like to find out what the issue is because I am planning this weekend to swap out my motherboard with a duplicate board to see if that will end up fixing the problem but I want to find out if there is any other way to fix this issue. Thank you.Message Edited by AuXoIs on 02-25-200808:28 PM

Hmm what other options is there for the bios on PCI slots? Also anything you connect to the motherboard can have oxidization (I think its that) build up on the connection. Check the connector on the card and get a eraser (Pen eraser is better) and give it a good cleaning. The connector might have alot of build-up on it and you can see it by a dark yellowy colour. I cleaned my graphics card and ram connectors after they got alot of the build-up on them. On a older computer my graphics stopped working and this fixed it. Also I went away for a while (like a month) and came back to see that my puter didn't display anything. Opened it up and saw that the graphic card had alot of corrosion? on the card connector and in the slot. Does that if you computer is turned of for a long time. Had a heck of time trying to clean the slot out. One other thing that it could be is the sound card is faulty. I had an audigy 2 and it died a while back . It picks it up and then try and use it computer freezes and the after restart it's not there anymore. Hope it's not that problem. Hope this gives you something to go by.

  • HELP w/iBook, New Hard Drive; OSX does not detect

couple of months ago, my ibook was acting up
I thought it was the Hard Drive... because at first, the position of the laptop affected it (it would like freeze, and all i had to do was stand the laptop up and then i'd be fine) so i thought it was hardware......
    I checked the disk utility.....
and SMART was reporting serious errors......
so i felt it was the HD gone bad, after the many times of "banging" it around (nothing big tho)
    and then......
    it didnt start anymore
it would "freeze" and get error
    so it was basically dead....
I FINALLY got a new Hard DRive for it and i was thrilled
I had CompUsa install it for me for $30....
I was gonna install osx myself.....
    I picked it up
    did the "Apple Hardware Test"
    just to do it.....
everything checked out fine....... "Mass Storage - Passed"
I put the OS discs in and im clicking away "continue, etc"
it comes to the point where it asks me to choose a destination
a partition on the hard drive i presume......
    and there's nothing there
my hard drive just isnt listed.....
I figured the hard drive just needed to be formatted......
aftere eventually realizing that there's a disk utility available during installation....
I thought i had figured it all out......
but upon opening the disc utility....
again, the utility did not detect the hard drive....
did CompUsa not plug the hard drive in right? is that even possible?
    OR........
is the hard drive i bought not compatible?
    I ordered from:https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
    who specialize in mac stuff.....
I bought my laptop early 2004, and according to the site, i should be fine...
I then figure out my laptop is a 2003 model? 800mhz, etc. but even then,
the site says all 2003 models are supported.....
    ahh.....
why is OSX not detecting it?
I wanna format, partition, and have my ibook back for good.....
and why does my "apple hardware test" say that my mass storage system is fine?
    I tried searching for solutions....
I read someone whom had a similar problem....
and it turned out it was an OSX problem, not hardware....
    anyways...
I sure dont hope that's the case, since i already bought the new Hard Drive...
    im so confused....
do i tell CompUsa they didnt install it "right"?
    someone please help
    thank you

I'm not sure why everyone's so fixated on the hard drive's partitioning and whatnot... that wouldn't have any relation to whether or not you could boot from the Mac OS X install disk. From the sounds of it, your problem is that you have no bootable system on the hard drive and can't boot from the Mac OS X install disk, correct?
If that's right, then the problems are very simple indeed. First, your machine may not meet the [Snow Leopard system requirements|http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html], thus can't boot from a SL install disk. If this is a 2008 MBP, that's unlikely.
Second, you could be using a bad disk. The most likely explanation, in my experience, is that you're using the gray disks that shipped with a different machine. You did say that it was a retail disk, though, so I'm assuming that's not it. You could also have a retail disk with a system that's too old. You [can't install an older system than what your Mac shipped with|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186]. That also doesn't seem likely if this is indeed a 2008 MacBook Pro. Or, perhaps the disk itself is defective.
The other possibility would be some kind of hardware problem, perhaps involving the optical drive.
One way to determine what's going on is to try booting with the gray disks that shipped with your machine. If you can't boot from those disks either, you're probably looking at an optical drive problem. If you can, try running [Apple Hardware Test|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509] to rule out other possible hardware problems.

  • Sound card not recongniz

Fist I'm french, so sorry for my english! My issue is that everything was as happy as can be on my computer when my Sound card was just no more detected by windows. I have a Augidy 2ZS and has been working fine. Windows keeps saying that there is a new unknow PCI device and don't even recognize if it is an audio device or multimedia device. I unistalled the drivers with a specialized sofware (Driver removal tool) and reinstalled the drivers but won't install saying that it can't find the sound card.
Then I reinstalled windows. It found the card (was happy then!) but afeter a few reboots( 5~6 reboots)it did the same thing! SO I'm puzzzled!!!
I suspect that everytime that it's due to a Starforce driver, but I'm not sure. So would like to hear if anyone has had this issue! I think it's when I installed Toca Race Driver 3 it did that but really not sure is it coincidence. I've heard of the issues the Starforce has been raising.
Thanks to those who will help me!!!

Wow, I thought I was the only one having this problem, but guess not! About a week ago (~ April 8th, 2006), I turned the computer on and all of a sudden Win XP said, "Multimedia Audio Device Found". When I checked the Hardware Manager, the 394 Firewire Net Adapter built into the SB Audigy Gamer I've got had the yellow exclamation point next to it as well as the Audigy Chipset under Sound, Video, & Game controllers. I have tried EVERYTHING to remedy this problem. I first uninstalled everything according to Creative's instructions for XP removal as well as using Driver Cleaner Pro, and finally reinstalled the drivers, but no luck. Mind you, I've had the Audigy Gamer for about three years now without any problems up until a week ago. I have also tried reinstalling Windows using a Ghost image I created a month ago when the card was working perfectly, but just like the poster above, the card works fine for 3-5 boots, but then I get the same **bleep** "Multimedia Audio Device Found"! ! ! I have also tried moving the card into at least four different slots, cleaned the contacts with a Q-Tip and alcohol, vacuumed the entire MB, etc. I finally just took the Audigy out and I'm temporarily relying on my AC97 built in 6. audio on my MB to get me by until Creative figures out what the h%!l is going on. The worst part is, when the problem is occurring and I try to load the Creative Audio Console, for example, it says that it can't even detect a compatible card in my system. This often happens when I'm trying to install the drivers after the "Multimedia Audio Device" message comes up. I thought my card had gone bad, but I'm beginning to realize this may be a bigger problem than I thought and on a grander scale. Btw, to the poster above, I have never had "Starware" on my PC and it's not installed in Add/Remove programs (I just checked). I don't have Toca 3 either, so I doubt if that's it. Anyone else having this problem, PLEASE POST! ! ! On a closing note, it also seems like the volume properties (double click speaker icon in system tray) reset or don't hold their settoings during this fiasco I'm experiencing as well. . .

Is there a way to troubleshoot this? I did some research and got to know it must be related to the modem partition. Is there a way to flash a new modem image and have my SIM card detected ?

  • Sound card not working anymo

Hello. i've been working on this for the past 5 hours, but i've taken a breath and now i'm going to post here to see if any one can help me out. Im working with 2 computers, heres one:
    [Computer One]
Yesterday, i first noticed that when i plugged in my microphone (a new one i bought) to the sound card i have (Audigy 2 ZS Platinum), it crashes my computer.
Today, i tried a newer headset, a USB one, and plugged it in. (these headsets are logitech). The microphone works good (while plugged into the card, but then i have like maybe 2.5% volume (very very, very low) in the headphones. I checked my system volume, i changed around EVERY thing to see if i could get the phones to work, but no sound from my voice chat server (Teamspeak) would play at any hearable level. (i know it worked because they yelled and i could hear them, a little).
So after that all does not work, i plug in my old trusty headset (to the front dri've bay i got with my card) and then i start getting ERRORS and stuff when i open teamspeak, heres the 2 i get:
"OpenDevice Specified device identifier is out of range", then I hit OK and it gives me: "waveInGetDevCaps Specified device indentifier is out of range".
I then uninstall my drivers for the sound card, and download these: SBAX_WBUP2_LB_2_09_006
When I try to install them, it says something like: please make sure your sound card is installed correctly, or something of the nature.
    [Computer Two]
I install my old Sound Blaster Li've 5. card on my second computer, and i download the drivers for it, and it says the same thing when installing drivers: "make sure its installed correctly," like my Audigy 2 ZS Plat. Thats when it hit me, there has to be something i'm doing wrong here, how it could give me the same error on 2 machines?
I really have no idea what to make of this, any help is appreciated

    HP 6120n  - Using win 7  - Sound won't work
Tried restarting and Troubleshooter and it not not solve the problem
Bought used replacement sound card (30 day warranty) but not sure of what to do to install it or even if it is necessary

    Hello @4u2bu,
I understand that the audio is not working on your HP Pavilion a6120n Desktop PC running Windows 7 and you are wondering it you should install the new audio card you purchased. I would recommend that you first try the steps set out in the HP Support document: No Sound from the Speakers or Headphones (Windows 7), which has been designed to address audio issues with computers running Windows 7.
Now if the above document does not work I would suspect a driver issue and since HP does not have audio drivers for your computer running Windows 7 I would suggest you go ahead and install the new audio card as it will have the needed drivers.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
