New HP DV6 - NO Win7 Disk blues... I miss DOS 3.03....HELP!!!

One month old HP DV6-6163cl.
Laptop stopped working. Seems that hard drive is bad, but did my duty and used win7 recover setup to backup my system. And, of course, burned a recover boot cd. Laptop under warranty for almost 2 more years. Called HP support.
Ran HD tests as they wanted and reported error codes. They confirmed HD is bad. So far so good....
I got a cool Momentus XT SATA HD which I can use while waiting for a new HD, so I said I would send in the bad HD and they could send me a free replacement HDD under warranty. They said no.
They want me to send in my entire laptop and be without it for weeks.
I said okay but it wouldn't be until I was going on vacation and didn't need the DV6 for awhile. They said okay.... let them know when I was sending in my laptop.
Now, for the even worst part.
Installed the 500Gb Momentus XT and booted with my HP recovery CD. All seemed to go well until it said it could not do the recovery. Found out, you cannot do Win7 recovery onto a HDD smaller than the original HDD.
How do folks install SSDs??? Yup, with Acronis. So downloaded and installed Acronis on my working laptop(this DV7) and looked to convert my Win7 recovery files, on my external backup 2TB USB drive, into tip files. Now, I had no idea WHICH DV6 Win7 files to convert as i had about a dozen of them with varying dates ranging from BEFORE I even got the dang laptop. Went ahead and converted the latest two recovery files.
But, now when I booted into the Acronis disk and chose either of the two recovery files I converted, it won't let me change the partition size for the anything other than the one listed as SYSTEM, which is a small one. There are two more partitions one of which is about 690Gb... larger than my entire new HDD.
So, then I got a Win7.ISO disk and booted with that. Tried installing Win7 but it won't install without a DVD/CD DRiver for the PC??? What???
Then dragged out one of my dusty WinXP disks, figuring to install XP and then run the Win7 installl, but the XP install blue screens with an ACPI.SYS stop screen.... argh.
I don't think I will ever buy any PC ever again that doesn't come with a set of actual setup/OS disks.
Other than maybe order and pay HP($25) for the actual Recovery DVD, what else can I try.

To the best of my knowledge, the Windows 7 upgrade discs once lost, cannot be ordered again. (Microsft limitation i guess, due to long time since the upgrade program was launched). Hence I think the only option is to have a retail version of Win 7 and install it for your notebook.
Although I am an HP Employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Try upgrading the firmware for your BluRay drive to the latest. The firmware is available at the web support portal Driver & downloads section for your notebook.
If after updating the firmware you see no change in the issue, contact HP for warranty service.
Advise the HP Customer Service representative that you did update the firmware to try and correct the problem.

  • Pavillion dv6-3216us win7 clone hard drive worked only with HDClone 4.1

Pavillion dv6-3216us win7 64bit clone hard drive worked only with HDClone 4.1 tried many others that seemed to work but not boot.
cloned to WD 750 GB took about 2.5 hours

The originals were over 3 yrs old low end consumer models and 'due' for retirement to less frequent backup duties.
The Black or Blue Caviar 640GB costs slightly more but also 10-15% faster.
I wouldn't worry about temps, but I would monitor them, and if necessary boost the fans 200-300 rpm to help out.
Make sure everything is SL versions now (DW 4.2).
Normally I zero a drive and reformat more than others, and definitely with new OS.

  • How can I create a new folder in an external disk that is connected via USB to my Mac?

How can I create a new folder in an external disk that is connected via USB to my Mac?

Just like you would create a new folder anywhere. Open the drive's icon from your desktop or the Finder, and click shift-command-N. (Or use the Finder menu if you prefer - File - New Folder).
If you can't create a folder, your drive may be the wrong format (you can't write to a Windows/NTFS formatted drive, for example). You'll have to back up any files you have on there, and then use Disk Utility to reformat it to Mac Extended (if it will only be used on a Mac) or MS-DOS format (if you want to share it with a PC).

  • Had to buy a new PC as the hard disk of the old one broke and lost all purchases, but still have them on the iPhone. How can I sync them back to the new PC in iTunes?

Had to buy a new PC as the hard disk of the old one broke and lost all purchases, but still have them on the iPhone. How can I sync them back to the new PC in iTunes without losing them?

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Peirce College will not recognize FF-v4, only v3.6. How can I get the older v3.6 for my new HP Dv6 I am using for school now. My G60 worked well with the v3.6.1.

This weekend I changed over from my HP-G60 which ran on Vista with Firefox 3.6.1 and my connection to Peirce College in Philadelphia was recognized and supported. They do not, as yet, support the 4.0 version. I downloaded your 4.0 this morning onto my new HP-Dv6, but I cannot use your browser to get to my classes online because they don't support the 4.0 version. It will only work if I use Internet Explorer 7 or 8. I need your version 3.6.1 to be made available to me, so I can continue on with my studies. A little background here...I am a baby boomer who is working on his bachelor degree in IT Networking Security. Please respond as soon as you can. Thank You, Ken DeWitt.

    Here it is:

When you uninstall FF 4, do not select the option "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.

  • How do I reactivate and install Adobe Acrobat on a new computer without the original disk?

I am moving to a new computer and the Acrobat disk I used to have got lost somewhere in the office environment... so, how do I deactivate Acrobat on my old computer and activate/install it ion my new computer without the original disk?

If you were using the same serial number then, yes. You are only allowed two installs and they should be on computers used by the licensee (you).
You would need to deactivate on any additional computers if this is the case.
Just an FYI, you are in the Adobe Reader forum. If this doesn't work, you'll want to head to the Acrobat forum where you'll find more experienced users.

    Good luck.

  • How do I share a hard drive with the new iMac to load a disk from macbook pro

How do I share a hard drive with the new iMac to load a disk from macbook pro. I want to install office for Mac from a disk but dont know how to share har drive from macpro
    thanks

The new iMac's don' t have DVD drives however almost all have a disk drive. The easiest method of installing MS Office for Mac on your new iMac is to download it from Microsoft and then input the code you received when you purchased your original license. Otherwise you can use the DVD drive on your MBP to install on your iMac, that feature is called Remote Disc. Instructions for Remote Disc can be found at:http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5287

  • Is it Necessary to create a New Folder on my Scratch disk for new project?

I am using a MACBOOK Pro with a 1tb scratch disk (loud) and am new to FCPS2. Someone told me to make a new folder on the scratch disk and then let the app build the rest of the folders it needs within it..Is there are reason for his? Do I have to build a new folder for every new project? Does media Manger do this?

    Is it better to have
    A) a file for each project, with all the Audio Render, Autosave Vault, Capture Scratch, Render Files,
Thumbnail Cache and Waveform Cache folders inside each one? For instance, "Ghost Story/Audio
Render, etc etc" "Music Video/Audio Render, etc etc"
Caches sholud go on your system drive. Autosave should go anyplace except your system drive so you can recover a project if the system goes down. Media folders go on your media drives.
    B) All of the Audio Render, Capture Scratch, etc folders, with the project-specific folders spread out between all of these?
They aren't spread out, they're contained within.
but just wondering if there was a quick answer for this--
it seems like FCP wants users to do it according to option B,
but to me option A makes more sense
That's the trouble the OP was having. Attempting to impose your desires onto FCP is dangerous without thorough grounding in the FCP Way. I think Apple's organization structure is lame, unnecessarily restrictive, and confusing. But all of my attempts to impose my own thinking patterns upon FCP lead directly to disaster.

  • New items (folders, freshly inserted disks, etc.) appearing over old ones?

Just for the last couple of days, whenever I create a new folder or insert a disk (of any kind) it appears on my desktop over an existing file. The only thing that I've changed recently is the addition of a 250G LaCie usb drive. It seems like a small problem, but I'm concerned about what might be hiding beneath the surface of this little glitch.
(This may be unrelated, but my computer has had some difficulty reading writable DVDs recently. I did and archive/install and that seems to have helped... so far.)
    imac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   G4 - Wacom Tablet - Epson Scanner

Having more things on my desktop makes my computer take a couple of extra seconds to log in, but after that I have not noticed it slow down.
Try to repair permissions to solve the icon problem to do this open disk utility which is in /applications/utilities. Then click Macintosh HD (or what ever your HD is named). On the right of the window click the button that says repair permissions.

Blue screen of death? I just updated my MacBook Air with the latest OX (25 Jun 11). When I restart - I get the Apple logo and then a blue screen and nothing else. Help!!!

Insert the install disk and press c on startup. Select your langauge then, if there's a menubar click utilities then click Disk Utility. If you didn't see the menubar continue with the installer until you see it.
Once in disk utitly select the drive and repair permissions.
After the repair is done, quit the utiltiy.
You can try to reboot and see if it works if you reboot, but if it doesn't repeat the same as before again.
Now you can continue with the installer and install the os.
    Quit
