New HP5745 Officejet won't print

Printer installed Ok and seemed to work fine, printing from computer and copying.  Here is the problem: I usually leave the printer turned on all the time - at night it looks like it goes into a sleep mode.  In the morning to make a copy - I  1) touch the screen and it "wakes up"2) Select Copy, "2", and "Black" under Start ..... Here is what happens: Screen says:"Copying 1/2" It then pauses for 3-4 minutes, ejects a black sheet of paper, and the display says "printing cancelled" If I power off, then on again, it works OK. The printer is brand new, and I am using new paper, and I have reinstalled the printer and new S/W several times with the same result. I should not have to power off, then on again for normal operation. Any suggestions?

The troubleshooting steps in this document may help resolve the issue.

  • New Envy 5534 won't print wirelessly

I have installed a new HP Envy 5534 MFD for my parents. Works fine from workstation where it is wired in with USB2 (single page, scan, copy, duplex) however from a Asus laptop running Win8.1 it will not now print anything.
Tested fine when installed, printing a test page but today won't even do that. Have uninstalled the HP software from the laptop and downloaded and installed the latest driver package from the HP website but still no response from the printer. When trying to print a Word doc (Office 2013 Pro Plus) using the duplex feature there is a really unhelpful message that pops up:
and from the Windows print dialogue:
The printer is correctly linked into the Wi-Fi so am at a loss of what to try to resolve this. Reading the manual there is no mention of intervention necessary printing wirelessly.

You might try Restarting everything, including the Router
Leave the computer with the USB switched off till last... In fact, leave it off until you can test the wireless system setup.  Test all the way -- that includes testing a printed document, not just a test page from the printer.
It might be that the wireless radio on the printer is shutting off when you connect the USB to the other computer.
If you can get the Asus W8.1 system to print

  • New Color Cartridge Won't Print

Hidy! This is my office printer, and it cannot be replaced because of strange budget rules so I HOPE we can get it fixed. I went through every troubleshooting thing imaginable. When I print a test page (where you open and close the lid four times), it prints in color. When I print from the troubleshooter to re-align or clean, it prints in color. When I print from ANY program, and I've tried Word, Adobe PDF Files, internet pages through Firefox, everything, it only prints in Black, as if Grayscale is on (which, I look in every single Printer Dialogue Screen just to be sure, it is NOT on. Is there another place I could be missing? I've unplugged, removed, restarted, to no avail. This is just...odd. I know sometimes it will just stop working, but the fact that it's working from the HP software has me stumped. Please help!!! I was SO close to having my print jobs done!

    Hi @knmcnulty
Running the Print and Scan Doctor might help. The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues including but not limited to:
    Connectivity:
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test: Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check: Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager: Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online: Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue: Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match: Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts: Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues: Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings: Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print: Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests: Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Source:Try the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows
Click here to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor> >>>>> www.hp.com/go/tools
If that does not resolve the issue, post back and let me know if there are any symbols other than green check marks and what they are next to of course. The wrench is not always easy to spot as the wrench and the check mart are in the green circle.
If you see only green check marks (), the tool did not find any problems.
If you see green wrenches (), the utility identified an issue and corrected it automatically.
If you see yellow exclamation points (), the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.
If you see a red X (), follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.
    If the issue persists, you might also consider removing the driver from the Server Properties and then re-adding it again;
    1. In the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder
    2. Choose ‘Print server properties’.
Win XP – With no printer selected, click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows Vista – With no printer selected, press ‘Alt’ then click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows 7/8 and 8.1 – Select any printer in the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and click ‘Print Server properties’ above.
    3. Click on the ‘Drivers’ tab at the top of ‘Print server properties’ window
    4. Choose the printer you want to uninstall and click ‘Remove’
    5. Choose 'Remove driver only'
    6. The next screen will give a warning, letting you know that deleting the driver package will remove it from the system. Click ‘Yes’ to say that you are sure you want to do this.
If documents are stuck in the print spooler, you may see an error, cancel any documents pending in the print queue, or try restarting the print spooler, then try to remove the driver from ‘Print server properties’ again. If it still won’t remove the package, restarting the computer and the printer should resolve this ‘in use’ error and allow the driver to be removed.
After the driver is removed, open Start > All Programs > HP folder > Printer folder > HP Setup and Software (or the printer icon).
The Setup and software screen will open and you can click on Connect a new printer.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing back from you.

  • New Mac Mini won't print on Kodak AIO 7

We bought a new Mini yesterday and I've already run into a problem. Although my Mac recognizes my Kodak AIO 7 printer and I've been able to wireless scan from it to the Mac, I can't print from the Mini to the AIO. I get an error message that says that it can't connect to the print.
It's odd and I haven't been able to find a fix. Suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.

  • Compile new MDF - now won't print

    Hi,
I made a change moving some fields in my IFD file. Compiled it and edited the job to point to the new MDF on the server but now there isn't any printer output Am I supposed to do something else? Thanks

If all you did was moving some fields then you have done just what's required. But something is obviously preventing it from printing. Best way to start your search is in your \error folder. If you cannot find your print file there with an an error file then look in the jfserver.log file. You can increase the level of detail in the Central Control's Print Agent section.

  • HP 7000 Officejet won't print

I am using PSE 5 and recently purchased an HP Office jet 7000 Wide format printer. ONly blank pages come out when I send the print job from PSE Editor; it prints the photo if I send it from Windows or from MS Publisher. Does anyone have an idea what's happening?

Check on the HP site to ascertain if there are new drivers for your printer. If there are, uninstall your printer and install the new drivers.

  • 5520 New black cartridge won't print

Just installed a new HP 564xl black cartridge in my 5520 and it will not print anything in black? Shows that it has a full black cartridge? I've run diagnostics and cleaned and alignged and still nothing in black, only color?

Hi - A couple of things you can try.  First, follow the steps in this document - at least solution 3 since you've already replaced the cartridge.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, try following the steps, beginning with solution 3 in this document, which will walk you through resetting the printer and cleaning the contacts - even though it is a new cartridge.
    Hope that helps.

  • HP 5740 Officejet won't print in color

Just bought this printer and can't get it to print in color.  Help! How can I give you "as much info as possible" when you limit me to 100 characters?!

I see you are having a print quality issue, no color on page, with your M251nw Laserjet.  You changed the toner cartridges and the printer is still not printing in color.  Have you tried taking all the color toner cartridges out of the printer and reseating them to make sure they are secure in their positions?

  • New Deskjet 3630 won't print or scan

I just bought this thing and when I try to print, it says there is a paper jam and E4 is flashing on the display. There is no paper jam. Going through the suggested fixes [fix paper jam, reinstall drivers] doesn't help. Why should I have to reinstall drivers that I just installed? Also, it will not scan. It says that the scanner is being used by something else. Absurd. I would like to use this freaking thing. It cost money.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are unable to use your recently purchased HP Deskjet 3630, you are getting a 'Paper Jam E4' error message. You have checked for a jam and reinstalled the drivers with no success. Let's go ahead and try a Hard Reset: 1. Unplug all cables and memory cards from the printer. Unplug the power cord, directly from the back of the printer while the printer is still turned on.
    2. Unplug the other end of the cord from the power source.
    3. If there is a power module on the power cord, disconnect one end and reconnect it.
    4. After 60 seconds, plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector or battery backup as they can cause the printer to lose basic functionality over time).
    5. Plug the power cord into the back of the printer.
    6. The printer should automatically power back up. If it doesn't, turn it on with the power button.
    7. Try making a photocopy (if your printer is an all-in-on printer) before connecting any other cables to the printer.
    8. Connect any other needed cables to the printer. Are you still getting the error message, if so, I would like you to continue here: An 'E4' Error Displays (Paper Jam), this one focuses more on the cleaning of the hardware than the software. Let me know the outcome, I will watch for your reply. Thanks,

  • New oj5745 won't print from dell laptop using Windows 10

New HP OJ5745 won't print from laptop using Windows 10.  Set up is wireless.  Norton firewall shutoff during set up.  Uninstalled all HP products and reinstalled new printer program.  Printer acknowledges connection to wireless network.  Printer shows up as default device on laptop.  When print command is sent, the printer indicates whirling circle but no results.  Bought printer yesterday.  Should I return it?

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you cannot print with your HP Officejet 5745 on your Windows 10 PC, and I am happy to help!  To verify the printer's hardware is functioning, are you able to make copies from the scanner glass? Copying Documents or Photos with an HP ENVY 5640, 5660, 7640 e-All-in-One, HP Officejet 5740 and 8040 e-All-in-One Printer Series. Have you completed the hardware setup before trying to print from the computer? As shown in this guide, Set Up an HP ENVY 7640, Officejet 5740, or Officejet 8040 e-All-in-One Printer. If you are able to make copies, and completed the hardware setup, then try the steps within this guide, 'Offline' Printer Status Message Displays (Windows 10), and let me know what happens! Hope to hear from you soon!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • Remote laptop won't print to new HP4622 wireless printer

My new HP 4622 won't print from wife's laptop (Compaq Presario CQ-60-224NR w/ Windows Vista) in another part of the house on my home Centurylink DSL network with very good connectivity.  I have the printer installed at my desktop (Gateway Microsoft XP SP3) and it prints fine from the desktop.  Does the printer software also need to be installed on the laptop?  I sent a .jpg file to the printer from the laptop and it printed one line of unicode? code per page until I cancelled the job from the print queue. I have gone thru the installation guide a couple of times and nothing is fixed.  Test results say that everything passed and install is successful.  I downloaded and tried the print doctor wizard and it says no problems found.  I have McAfee total protection running, could there be a firewall problem?  I'm not sure about enabling ports or that sort of thing.  I dumped a perfectly good Lexmark X7170 all-in-one because it wasn't wireless and we couldn't get it configured to print peer-to-peer.  Now I have a new wireless printer and con't get to print remotely either.  Hope you can help.  Let me know if you need more info.  Thanks.

    Hi Ken,
I would recommend giving the printer a static IP address for the wireless connection (not USB):
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you will have delete and re-add the printer on your computer. Do it this way:
    0. Go to Start > Control Panel > Devices & Printers and delete all instances of the printer.
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
If you're still experiencing issues try changing the channel on your router to 11 and the encyption to WPA.

  • My mac has10.5.8 and should be compatible with new HP officejet pro 8600.  I can't get it to install for wireless, nor to work with USB cable.  Have tried downloading HP install directly from HP and it still doesn't work.

I just bought a new HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer.  I have been unable to download the installation for wireless connection even though have had the assistance of Costco tech, HP tech and some advice from Apple.  Because the system is MacOs 10.5.8 the error says it is incompatible, even though the product lists compatiblilty with 10.5, 10.6.   I was advised 1 option might be to obtain Snow Leopard for installation, however am somewhat reluctant as the bo states 10.5 should work and Snow Leopard is 10.6, which is also listed as compatible.  I am unable to get the printer to work even with USB cable.  Too much time spent on this and I hate to start over with another printer because I'm afraid I might have the same trouble.  Is Snow Leopard something I should get anyway?  Help!

Snow Leopard has more compatible Java.

  • Hp officejet pro 8610 prints solid black on scanned pdf and word doc pictures

    -HP Officejet Pro 8610
-problem printing scanned pdf document and word doc. photos
-My new HP Officejet Pro 8610 printed a newly scanned pdf document as an all black picture. I then printed a saved word documtent from my iMac which included a small picture. The document print was acceptable, but the picture was solid black. There were no error messages. These were, my initial tests, to check this new printer.

    Hey there @TM-10
    Welcome to the Community
I read through your post about your new Officejet 8610 scanning a document to your computer and printing out all black. I have a couple ideas for you to try.
Try the steps in this guide: Unexpected Scan Output Using HP Scan Application for HP Multifunction Printers When Using OS X v10.9...
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help.
    Good luck

  • InD CS6 doc won't print or export to PDF

Hi, I'm having a problem with my document:
    304 pages
Using master frames and master page items (page numbers and running heads, about 25 master spreads in all)
6 or so pages suddenly had an enormous pasteboard and the text on these pages disappeared (but did not reflow onto the next available page)
I deleted these affected pages, the text automatically reflowed and I added in new pages at the end of the doc to accommodate the overset text.
I also deleted the master pages that were assigned to the 6 affected pages and recreated them
The Indesign doc looks "fixed" but won't print or PDF. The error message is here:
I sent the file to a colleague and it appeared to work fine on her computer.
I also copied all the text that was in linked text frames (about 280 pages worth) and copied it into a new document. The new document also has master text frames but no other master page items. The new doc also won't print or PDF.
Sending the file to my colleague is a work-around that will do for today but I need the file to behave before I send it to the printer.
    Any help?
    Thanks!

    Yup, tried that
I have found a bit of a work around: I PDF'd the first half with no problem, then I tried to PDF the second half - this failed.
Then I PDF'd chapter by chapter until I found that chapter 12 was giving the error message, so I copied and pasted the chapter into a new document and PDF'd that.
The I combined the PDFs into one document in Acrobat.
It's a solution of sorts but still doesn't completely solve the problem of the original working file.
Thanks for the help! Happy holidays!
