New iBook Battery Problems

Hello!
I have a problem with my 3 month old iBook. It seems that whenever its hits 50% battery status it turns off (not sleep, but turns off). Because it turns off at 50% I cannot calibrate the battery because it will not drain any further.
Is something wrong or am i being thick? Am I allowed to claim a new battery since the ibook is only 3 months old?
Many thanks,
palmerar

Your iBook is still under warranty so i think you should contact Apple and inform them of this. Applecare have sorted out all of my problems (iBook battery, iPod headphones) with a minimum of fuss.

  • New 4S Battery Problem?

Wondering about my new 4S' battery. I think it's getting drained too much for a new unit. Here's a scenario.
Charged it to 100% before leaving my house i checked my social media feeds on wifi and made a few calls for about 5 minutes. 89% left after leaving my house. I left at around 6:20
Otw to my location i used Waze on mobile data for only 10 minutes and a few texts 81% left
After about 4 hours of checking my Twitter, Facebook and Instagram on mobile data 59% left
Arrived at my house with 50% left (10:30pm)
An hour and thirty minutes spent on the web using wifi 30% left
Charged it to 100% and used it again to check my feeds using mobile data after 20 minutes or so 79% left.
Note: I turned off Wifi after leaving the house only leaving my mobile data on. Background app refresh is off and so is auto-brightness
Is the battery drain normal? First day using it i discharged the battery to 0% and charged it all the way up to 100%.
Sorry for the long post. Just really concerned about my phone since this is my first iPhone.

It could be normal battery drain but i'm unsure.
How old is your iPhone 4S device?
It could be a hardware (battery) issue and it maybe should be replaced.
Or it can be a software related issue (e.g. a rogue app which keeps using e.g. GPS or refresh in background).
Read the blog post to determine if it is a hardware or software issue (usage time is equal to stand-by time).
In my case a rogue app which i had on my iPhone 4S already since iOS7.04 caused the drain after an update to IOS7.0.6. and still with iOS7.1 I removed the app and now my iPhone is fine again with iOS7.1 and now iOS7.1.1. ever since.
Question 1) Did you read the blog post i mentioned?
Question 2) Does your iPhone have the exact same Usage time as Stand-by time or not (see Settings > General > Use > ..)?
If this usage time is not exactly the same as the stand-by time then  it could be that it simply is a hardware issue (battery itself) and not software (iOS) related.
Question 3) What kind of settings do you have on your iPhone e.g. the below things could cause a huge battery drain ever since the recent iOS release can still run in the background (if you have 'refresh in background' or GPS turned on for some apps).
We have two iPhone 4S phones and we have an average battery time of 1-1,5 day (when using it for e.g. a few calls, texts, mail, news apps and a short video for e.g. total of 3-4 hours) or even 2 days (if i don't use my phone much almost 90% stand-by time) and with WIFI connecting for about 90-95% of the day and ofcourse phone network but no 3G.
Aside from that we have the following settings which could save a lot of battery:
    - bluetooth off
    - screen brightness set to approximately 30%
    - fetch e-mail accounts once an hour (Settings > E-mail, calendar .. > deselect 'Push' and set it to either Fetch e.g. once an hour)
    - do not refresh any apps in the background (Settings > Refresh apps on background)
    - apps that use GPS are limited (Settings > Privacy > Location tracking)
    - only have a few apps (5-10) that are allowed to send push notifications
    - only have a limited amount of apps to send messages to 'Notification center' or e.g badgets/strips/sounds/apps symbol or on your 'Access screen' (See Settings > Message center > check settings per app)
I think that 3G uses more battery then WIFI so if you have WIFI access then use that instead of 3G.

  • IBook battery problems

Ok so I bought a new battery for my Ibook G4 on ebay. I charged and then drained and it worked fine for a day or two. When I first charge the battery and take out the power adapter it works fine, but when I shut down and try to turn the computer on the next day without the adapter, the battery doesn't work. Sometimes one blinking green LED will still lit on the battery for days even when it's not turned on. The current issue I'm having now is that even though the battery is installed, the computer doesn't recognize it. Can someone please help me and let me know on what I should do. I think I already tried everything.

    thanks for the reply
I removed the battery again to check the connections, and they are all shiney. Once i placed the battery back in the laptop wont charge it at all now, the orange light comes on, but in MacOS it just shows the running with charged battry symbol.
    any other ideas?
    Thanks

  • IBook Battery Problem

    Hi guys,
Just registered for these forums, as this is the first problem I've had with my iBook in nearly two years!
Recently, for no apparent reason, my iBook has stopped recognising that it's got a battery in it. An "X" appears in the battery icon on the top right of the screen, and it says "No Batteries Available" when I click on it. The battery is fully charged (according to the lights on the underside of it), and it's inserted correctly...so I have no idea what the problem is.
    I'm running 10.4.8 on a 1.2GHz iBook G4.
Any ideas what's up? Anybody experienced this before?
    Thanks!
    Mike

    Thanks Phil.
The iBook itself is just under 2 years old, but thanks to the battery recall program the battery was replaced late last year, October or November I think.
There's not been any physical damage to it, or at least there's not been any I'm aware of! I did think of that, as it seems not to recognise it at all, but I can't think of anything that would've caused it.

  • Fixed my iBook battery problem

    Hi,
I posted a question here before about my iBook not working off the battery, but is fine with the power adapter.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=868332&tstart=0
I then found out about a solution for this type of problem which is caused by bad soldering in one of the chips in the iBook. I think this problem is observed for late 2003 to early 2004 iBook batches. Refer to the following links
    http://www.dse.nl/~yver/logicboardrepair/#Afourthattempt
    http://www.coreyarnold.org/ibook/
    http://www.forbrug.dk/presse/nyheder/pressekit/ibookg4/lab-report/
Following the instructions in www.ifixit.com I inserted a half centimeter plastic on top of the chip and my iBook now works off the battery =)

When you turned off the setting for Documents and Data did you get a warning that all docs and data would be deleted from your phone, and if so what was actually deleted?

  • New iBook battery does not seem to be charging

    Hi
Just put a new battery (non original) into my 300mhz ibook. Charged it overnight then ran it completly out to calibrtate. Second charge the same but only indicated 16% charge but still lasted around 3 hours. Now have charged again overnight and the battery seems to be holding zero charge, i.e if I unplug the power cable the ibook goes straight off. My connector is showing orange as if it is charging.
I have tried doing a PMU reset via the reset button and started using the pram reset.
I am running 10.1.5 at the moment on it.
I bought the battery from a ebay power seller in china and am dreading having to arrange a return.
    Any suggestions
    Thanks
    Dave

Sounds like a bad battery and reseller. I would return for refund if possible and buy a new battery from some place more reliable.
I have had good luck with:

Batterys have a a limited life and if the are several years old they can go bad even if never used.

  • New Laptop Battery problem

Hello, I just bought a new HP laptop MODEL: 2000-219DX  last week Friday from best buy but apparently the battery never took charge. I contacted the HP technical support and after some troubleshooting and testing the battery they advised me to take it in for service. I live in the Bahamas and the laptop is still under warranty, therefore I'm not able to bring it back there. What can I do to resolve this situation?

    Hello Ruvane,
Sorry to hear that you have an issue with your battery.  If you have done troubleshooting with HP and it was determined that the battery is defective, HP will normally send a replacement battery.  I am confused by your statement that you were advised to take to a service center.  Additionally, I am concerned that the you are having an issue with a new notebook.   I will send you a private email in which I will request additional information.
    Regards,

  • New itouch battery problem?

I just got my itouch replaced a little over a week ago and I noticed that in a matter of minutes, the battery level went down to 84% after fully charging it last night. Is this a problem? Shall I bring it to the apple store for replacement?

  • New Q5 battery problem

    Hello,
I am new to Blackberry and have just started using Q5 (it is brand new), I have had it for a week and unfortunately it switches off every 10-12 hours. I am not using the phone at all so it is mainly on standby, I do not understand what is draining the battery.
I have not downloaded any new apps and have even switched off the wireless in case that is impacting the battery life with no success.
I have upgraded the ios to the latest version (10.2.1.3062) yesterday and it is still having the same issue.
Any idea what I need to do with this phone, I am sure something is not right here as my partner has a z10 and is constantly using it but he doesn't need to charge his phone as frequently as I do.
    Your help is much appreciated.

  • New iBook & Battery

I've just bought an iBook 14" from the Apple Refurb Store.
It arrived this morning so I've left it to warm up to room temperature.
Do I need to do anything to the battery first e.g. flatten it or just plug in the power cord and charge it up as normal?
    Thanks

  • New ibook syncing problem

    Greetings:
Since ibooks disappeared from iTunes and is its own app on the computer I can no longer individually drag books to my iPad.  It asks me to sync the whole library every time but whenever I try it gives me a warning sign saying this will replace all music on your iPad.  I don't want all my music on my iPad replaced every time.  I have ripped CDs on there that are not permanently on my computer.
    Can anyone help please?

Can't help you with your first question.
You downloaded the latest iPod updater software, but did you actually run it?
The actual updater is called 'iPod Updater 2005-09-23' (if you have the latest) and is located in
    b ~/Applications/Utilities/iPod Software Updater
Connect your iPod, wait until it appears on the desktop and run the updater.

  • Questions about the new iBook

Okay, so I`m a Canadian student and as far as pricing goes, this new 14inch iBook is $400 CDN cheaper than my previous choice (12 PB G4 SD). I went to a store and the size sort of bothered me. I couldn`t imagine doing everyday things on something that small but whichever one I buy, I will buy an LCD as a secondary display so:
    1. Is there anyway to make the iBook have dual display rather than just mirroring?
    2. What major differences are there now between the iBook and 12 PB (aside from video card and a 1.42 instead of a 1,5)?
    3. The new iBook battery life is between 2.5 and 6 hours. Why such a wide range? Is this battery better than the PB?
    Thanks a bunch
    Tal

I went to a store and the size sort of bothered me.
My nearsighted 61 year old father hasn't complained to me one iota of the 12" iBook's size and he could have gotten a 14" but elected for the 12". The display is sharp and clear and I think that really helps overcome any size issues.
    1. Is there anyway to make the iBook have dual display rather than just mirroring?
Yes. However, the way to do this could potentially damage the computer, or make it not work in a future update.
    2. What major differences are there now between the iBook and 12 PB (aside from video card and a 1.42 instead of a 1,5)?
Sudden motion sensor for the hard drive.
    Built-in RAM is more.
    3. The new iBook battery life is between 2.5 and 6 hours. Why such a wide range? Is this battery better than the PB?
DVD Playback and use of iSight can greatly decrease the amount of straight battery usage you can get out of the machine. Following these battery conservation tips you should be able to get the most out of your battery life:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
Whether it is better or worse than the Powerbook I can't say.

  • Problems with new iBook

Just purchased a new iBook a few days ago. This is my first mac and I'm impressed with the software so far. I am not really impressed with the quality of construction. Here are a few gripes I have with it, the screen seems to be misaligned the left side of the screen is lower than the right side. It is very minor but it is distracting knowing it is like that. When I have the computer closed only the right top corner of the screen comes to rest on the base of the notebook, the left side is suspended in with the rubber foot not making contact with the base of the notebook. The battery when installed and locked in position doesn't sit flush with the notebook instead the half leading towards the trackpad hangs down leaving a small gap between the battery and notebook. The fan seems very loud and doesn't sound right, it sounds like a propeller airplane off in the distance. Also when that fans kicks in I've noticed that if I'm resting my hand to the left of the trackpad with any amount of pressure applied it makes a noise like a fan blade coming into contact with something. If I took this back to the Apple store where I got it will they repair it or replace it? Can I return it without being hit with their restocking fee?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Sounds like you received a defective model - it happens, nature of mass production and machinery in general to have a defective model here and there.
Return the iBook (you have 14 days from DOP and the clock is ticking...) and tell them you are a "switcher" and very dissatisfied. Speak to the Manager. I suspect you'll leave the store satisfied.
Given the nature of a notebook and its usage away from home, they are more susceptible to mechanical problems. I encourage you to purchase an Apple Care Protection plan which gives you 3 years of telephone support and warranty service. Well worth the price given the cost of laptop repairs. The alternative is the existing warranty, which gives you 90 days telephone support and 1 year warranty service.
Note too, if you want to extend the basic warranty, you must do so before the 1st year anniversary date of your purchase.

  • 'New' Exchange Battery not holding charge - Date & Time problems

I recently received a 'new' exchange battery for my 2001 500mhz white ibook (OSX 10.3.9, 320ram), as part of the Battery Exchange program, and now I'm having some new problems.
Since I started using the battery a few weeks ago, I've been having constant problems with the Date & Time reseting itself to 1969. I reset to current time, but when I turn on again, it's resets back again. Also, this battery is not holding a charge very well, lasting only about 40 minutes after fully charged (My old battery lasted 2 hours).
I calibrated the battery when i first received it, and I've reset the PMU twice, but no luck.
Thanks in advance for any help & advice....

Is there any such program for the G3s?
Only if you replaced your original battery with one from Apple within a certain time frame and within a specific range of serial numbers. Check out the details here:
