New iCloud/itunes account syncing with multiple devices

I recently purchased an iPad with the intention of making a new iCloud account and syncing it with my iPhone and MacBook. Previously, my iPhone and MacBook were synced without iCloud because my whole family used the same iTunes account. I have added the same credit card to my new apple and iCloud accounts, and would like to apply these to my phone and laptop now, but I'm afraid I will lose all the music i downloaded on the other account. Will this happen/what can I do for a smooth transition?

iTunes and iCloud are different accounts but they may use the same ID or different IDs.  So you could use the same ID for iTunes on all devices in a family and use multiple IDs for iCloud accounts, one per user so that a user's devices all stay synced without mixing in the other family users' data.

  • I have one icloud account sync with two devices. I made a note on my iphone. Suddenly it lost and all i see is note from my ipad. Is there any way to restore the note? Help me pls. Thanks.

Please help me as my note from iphone lost when it sync with another device. How can i restore back the note?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The difficulty in restoring iCloud data from a back up is that the back up is older than the current version on iCloud and anything that is restored gets removed again when an iCloud sync occurs. I have previously suggested ways to recover contacts, calendars etc, and other users have confirmed that they work, as such I am making the following suggestions to recover lost notes, but please note, as yet success is unconfirmed ***.
Recovering your notes is quite time consuming, you may wish not to save all your notes to save some time, if they are not of importance.
Ensure the device is connected to your local network.
Start the restore from iCloud back up.
Allow the devices settings to restore (watch for the confirmation of completion).
As the apps begin to restore pull the connection to your router WAN port (the one that goes to the telephone point).
Wait for the time out confirmation.
Open the 'Notes' app, and open your first note (assuming your deleted notes have now been restored).
Select the share option at the foot of the screen (rectangle with arrow) and choose mail.
Send the email to yourself (If they won't send, save them to draft)
Repeat steps 7 & 8, until you have copied all the notes you wish to save to email.
Reconnect the router to the internet and let the restore process complete.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and make sure 'Notes' syncing is enabled.
Open the 'Notes' app, check that iCloud notes have reverted to how they were before starting the restore.
Open the 'Mail' app and open the first email you sent yourself and copy the text you want in the note.
Open the 'Notes' app and create a new note in the iCloud, paste the text you copied.
Go to iCloud.com on a computer and check that the note has synced to iCloud.
Repeat steps 12, 13 & 14 until you have recovered all your notes.
May I suggest that you carry out a back up to iTunes before you try anything, that way should things become even worse, you can at least restore back to where you are now.
*** As a matter of protocol, anything that I can’t test myself will need to be confirmed by at least 5 individuals before I’m willing to accept it as confirmed. At this time only 2 individuals have confirmed it to work.

  • What is happening with iCloud and its sync with mobile devices?

I have been an Apple fan for 4 years now. I currently have 4 Macs (2 @ 27" and 2 @ 21.5" models), 2 iphones (4s and 3gs) and an iPad (2). I use them all for business and personal use.
Prior to purchasing my iPhone 4s on release day in the UK I was also a fully signed up Mobileme family account user. Everything worked fine. When I purchased my iPhone 4s I switched everything from Mobileme over to iCloud. Followed all the instructions. Initially it seemed to work fine. But over the last few weeks it has all gone horribly wrong resulting in the following; amongst other problems:
    iPhone 4s
My iphone 4s will no longer sync mail, contacts and calendar effectively. Mail will sync new mail in my inbox but I cant send any mail and when I do draft a mail and send it dissappears from the outbox, sent box and inbox (i always bcc mail). The number of contacts is a fraction of the number of contacts in my contracts file on my main Mac. Calendar will not let me sync or add any new entries...let alone sync with iCal on the Mac.
    iPad 2
My iPad suffers from much of the same problems as my iPhone. When I go to settings on the iPad and go to Mail, contacts and calendar, the iPad just freezes. I then have to hard re-set to get it working again.
    iPhone 3gs
I used this before I upgraded to the 4s. It suffers with the same problems as my 4s described above.
    iCloud.com
The number of contacts on iCloud.com is fixed at 1625no; whereas my Mac has a clean set of contacts containing 1325no. When I try to delete contacts on iCloud.com it says I cant because of a server error. Mail and Calendar both seem to work fine though.
I am now left with a major business critical problem. Niether iCloud.com, my Mac or my mobile devices will sync with each other. Apple has excalated the problem and my iCloud account is currently being tested. In the meantime my Mac contacts has duplicated and increased upwards of 4,000 contacts.
This whole journey of bad expereince is driving me insane and making my love of all things Apple wain.
I have restored my mobile devices about 8-9 times each. I have restored from previous versions stored on iTunes and also set them up as new devices....which as any of you will know is a laborious process because you have to reconfigure the Apps icons each time you do this as a new device! None of my attempts have fixed the situation.
Are we or have we been used by Apple as guinea pigs to test the iCloud which, according to the communities and discussions on this site, leaves a lot to be desired. This is having a dramatic affect on my quality of life and business.
    Please help me.....
    Mark

For the most part if you just get a new webhost you can continue to run with iWeb. Since you are still running Tiger iWeb should work just fine for you. You will simply need to publish your website to a folder or with the built in FTP in iWeb. Apple has simply quit updating iWeb & there will come a day when iWeb quits working in the later OS's whatever kitty comes after Lion.

  • Wireless sync with multiple devices? + related q

Does anyone know what happens if you have multiple devices (with different content - but using the same library) set up on automatic wireless sync? My husband has successfully set up his iPhone to sync, but I'm nervous of doing the same for my iPad in case it causes some kind of conflict if they're both trying to sync at the same time.
I've searched and couldn't find anything about this.
Also does anyone know what happens if you shut down iTunes/the PC while a device is syncing in this way? My husband often plugs his iPhone into his alarm clock to charge while I'm still working on the PC, so it's doing the auto sync when he does that. If I don't notice and shut down the PC before it's finished, will that cause a problem?
    Cheers

Thank you a lot Jolly Giant, and I have manual sync.
It seems that there is no way to keep an older version of the same app. Is this correct? I never directly replaced older version with newer version, but I suppose it did so when I did "transfer purchases" from iPad. Then it synced the app on older iPod, and it's not really like I have a choice: if I check its name, it syncs and I have the newer version which does not work. If I uncheck, it removes it from the device altogether.
Does not iTunes realize that I have two devices? Both are registered, etc. etc. can it not keep track of minimal system requirements? In fact it appears it's worse than this, older version are totally not allowed, even if someone has by chance the older file, iTunes will not allow.
And it is not like I have a legacy device, this iPod, even though it can not even run the latest iOS (that is, Apple dropped support after 4.2.1 on Nov 22, 2010), was sold new, and not for a cheap price, not so long ago.... btw branded as "third generation" (not everyone is familiar with hardware specs and technical sheets).
The problem will worsen the day my iPad will eventually abandon 4.2.1 in favor of a newer iOS and sure enough there will be newer versions of apps that no longer support 4.2.1 and which so far, I don't download, but in the future I will want to download for the newer device.
Thank you a lot Jolly Giant for your help and thank you to anyone who will help.

  • ITunes Match - Sync with iOS device

I am thinking about buying iTunes Match, but i first wanna make clear some things up...
    here are my questions:
    1. Will I ever have to sync my iPhone again with my computer (over WIFI or Cable) or will my iPhone automatically download the music! Or will i have to individually download the music on to my phone? Because now if I load a new CD in my iTunes i just plug my phone into my MacBook and after that all my selected playlists will be updated and ready to listen to (without any internet conection obviousely), how will this be with iTunes Match?
e.g.: I have this new cool tune that I import and put into my list "my favorite songs"! Will this song immediately be on the same list on my phone? online or offline?
    2. What do I have to do if i wanna delete an album on my computer? But I mean delete it forever, also out of the cloud! how do i do this, and will these tunes also dissapear on my iPhone (like they do now as soon as I sync my iOS device with my Mac)? Will I have this music present in my cloud forever?
    Thank you for your help!
    Cheers
    Yannick B.

    Hello Yannick B.
Once you have enabled iTunes Match and then add music from a CD, it will automatically add those to iTunes Match for you or you can go to a drop down menu Store > Update iTunes Match to add the tracks. If you have iTunes Match enabled on your iPhone, you will see the changes rather quickly once uploaded.
If you want to delete music from iTunes Match, just delete the tracks and a prompt will ask if you want to delete from iCloud. That should answer those questions for you.

  • How do I change the iTunes account affiliated with my device?

When I unpackaged my iPhone 4 at home, I put music on it with my sister's iTunes account, I did not have one. Now that I have my own, I can't add music to my device, because I can only have one iTunes account registered to my phone. How do I change it so that MY iTunes account is registered to my iPhone4?

    Anyone??

  • Help syncing with multiple devices

This is my personal Blackberry but it is tied to the enterprise server at work.  I also want to sync with my personal laptop so I have all my contacts, calendar, tasks and notes sync'd to keep me straight.  Everytime I try to sync to my personal laptop, it says it can't sync because it's set to sync wirelessly.  I turn the bluetooth on and try to do it that way and can't do it.  I can't seem to find any way to get them all sync'd.

Plug your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad into iTunes via the USB dock cable.
Find it listed under Devices in the left sidebar and click on it.
Go through the tabs on the top of the iTunes window and select the music, movies, apps, podcasts, etc. you want to sync.
Your selection can include none, all/automatic, or just the exact content you wish.
    Sync!
    Repeat with all yourdevices.
    Or you can do this:
Option+Click on the iTunes icon and choose Create Library and go from there.
Switching library is just an Option+Click away, this means you can choose 2 diff libraries.

  • Syncing with multiple devices

Hi all, any help is appreciated.
I recently had to re-format my computer and lost all information, etc. I reinstalled iTunes and backed up my iPhone, synced, transfered purchases, etc.
Not a day or two later I got an iPad. I set it up but now every time I plug it in, iTunes starts copying all my iPhone apps automatically even though I don't have it set to automatically sync. So, I have to stop the sync and end up deleting a few apps from the iPad each time.
Then I'll plug my iPhone in, and it'll sync the couple apps I have on my iPad to my iPhone. I dont want them on there. I want to treat these as two separate devices that I can pick and choose what I want on there. For example, I tried to copy a few pics to the iPad - but couldn't - so I copied them to my pictures folder - which, of course, I didn't want every single picture in that folder on my ipad, but who knows how else to do it - but when I went to sync to get some pictures on my iPad, it started copying apps instead.
Another issue is, when I try to copy some stuff from my iPhone, iTunes will tell me that iPhone is set up with another computer and it can't copy certain things (specifically music and photos) to this computer since it is not the comptuer that the iPhone is set up with. How do I change this?
To summarize, I guess I have these questions:
    1) How do I get iTunes/my computer to treat these two devices separately? I don't want ot have the exact same apps/setup on each.
    2) How do I set these devices up to take what is on them and sync it to itunes so I can pick and choose what is on both?
    3) How do i copy individual pictures onto thsese devices without syncing an entire folder, which makes me sync all my iphone apps onto my ipad?
    4) How do I setup my reformated computer to be the main computer for my iphone so I don't get odd messages when I try to copy things off of it/ sync my photos and music?
THANKS! for all your help in advance.

Wow, surely someone knows how to do this. I have an iPod Classic and an iPhone. They always synced separately just fine. iTunes never tried to put iPhone apps on the iPod classic. But last week I got an iPad. It is not only trying to add all of the current apps from my iPhone but all of the ones I've ever had and deleted as well!  There has to be a simple way to set them up to sync separately but I'm not even seeing an option for my iPad for what I want it to sync.  It's either all or nothing of each category unless I go in and put one app on there at a time by hand.

  • Can iTunes Match sync with multiple libraries?

I have two libraries on my MacBook. Can I match both of them or should I take the time to consolidate them into one first?

IIRC match uses the ITunes store Apple Id, so if the use the same you can do each in turn. If they have different store ids then you are nadgered and have to do each individually and cannot share.

  • I have just moved from MobileMe, where I had a 'Family account' (with unique email addresses for my wife and myself) to iCloud. We share the Cal and Contacts on our iMac. How do we sync to multiple devices - we each have iPads and iPhones? Mine sync OK...

We have just moved from MobileMe, where we had a 'Family account' (and we each have our own @me.com email addresses) to iCloud. We share the Cal and Contacts on our iMac. How do we sync to multiple devices - we each have an iPad and an iPhone, but with different accounts set up for mail. Mine syncs OK to Cal and Contacts, but hers doesn't. There must be a way! Please help.

According the this: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html, "After moving to iCloud, family member accounts are no longer linked to the master account."  You can share an iCloud calendar (see http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2690), but I don't think you will be able to share iCloud contacts unless you are signed into the same iCloud account on both phones.

  • My computer says it's been synced with another device besides my own, and it wont let me do anything in itunes until I either start up the device as a new one, or restore from another back up, and i dont know what to do!

I got the new ipad several weeks ago, and since i had the ipad 2 before it, i transfered the data from it to my computer and gave the ipad 2 (techinally new since it had nothing on it) to a family member. Now, when I go to itunes on my computer with the new ipad, it says that the computer has already been synced with another device, and my only two options are to set the ipad up as a new one or to restore from a backup (my up-to-date backup for the new ipad does not come up on itune's list of backups that went to my computer). So now because of this, there is no way i can put anything from my computer to the ipad, or even look at it through Itunes on the computer! Is there any other option for me?! I need help now!!

I found this article some time ago when I was trying to help someone else in this same situation. This is a copy and paste from the website. The website is provided below for you to read before you try this.
    Plug your phone into iTunes
Click setup as a new device
Immediately unplug your phone from the computer
Give it about 30 seconds and iTunes will give a message (I don’t remember the specific, but regarding you unplugging the device and it not completing)
    Plug your phone back in
Viola! no restore occurred and you can access everything again
This computer has previously synced with an iPhone or another iOS device.

my new ipad will not sync with itunes.  the device does not show up in itunes.  I am on a Windows system

Do you have the absolute latest version of iTunes downloaded?  If your iTunes software has not been updated in some time, your iPad will not be recognized.  With iTunes open, click on Store at the top.  Check for available downloads and if there are any, download them.  Once you've verified you have the latest software, connect your device again, and it should be recognized.

I have three devices under the same iCloud/iTunes account. I need to "inactivate" one of the devices. How do I do it without affecting the iCloud/iTunes account?

You could just delete your iCloud account from your device (Settings > iCloud) or erase the device via Find My iPhone. Futhrrmore you could also delete the device from iTunes account via iTunes on your computer (open iTunes then menu "Store > View account > iTunes in the Cloud > Manage devices)
