New Icon appeared in dock - can't open or trash

Very odd! Recently imported some photos from borrowed memory card to iphoto. First off I copied the 21 photos to desktop and then imported new event from desktop. But... although safely in iphoto I now have this odd icon which shows an open event folder in the dock. When I click is says "open iphoto" This cannot be done from the icon, so I open from the iPhoto icon but still the event folder icon remains. (It next to Docs and Apps) When I hover over dock icon it just says iphoto. Can't trash it, or take it way... what to do?

Can you right-click on in ( control-click ) > options > remove from Dock.

Hard drives do not appear in the application. Use File>New Library.

You can't open it meaning it does not launch when you tap on the app icon? If that's what's happening try this and then see if Safari will launch.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
Now close Safari. To close Safari, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to Safari and then swipe "up" on the Safari thumbnail app to close it.
Now reboot the iPad. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If Safari does launch and this isn't what you are experiencing - you need to explain in more detail what is going on.

Dock.app icon appears in dock!?

Well, I tried customizing my dock with a 3rd party app, but after applying the changes, I noticed that a new icon appeared in my dock - the icon for Dock.app. When I try quitting the app, it has a similar effect to the terminal command "killall Dock" - the dock quits, relaunches, and the icon is still there.

Since then I've tried numerous things:
1) Deleting the com.apple.dock.plist files.
2) Uninstalling and restoring the settings in the third party app.
3) "killall Dock" numerous times.
I've Googled this matter, but obviously, it has been to no avail.
So, my question, of course, is: HOW THE **** DO I GET THE ******* THING OUT OF THERE!
I have done a Time Machine backup, and am contemplating a reinstall, but does time machine keep system preferences as well?

I'm not sure that Lion AutoSave feature apply to network servers.
I'm just sure that the Versions feature doesn't.

I have a new Mark3 D 5, I can't open Raw files I've shot in LR 3, I read I would be able to in LR 4 or 5. Because my mac is 10.6.8 I prefer to get LR 4 so I don't have to also update my operating system. Will LR 4 open my rw files in Mark3 D5. What about my older files in LR 3 will I loose the catalogs when I do this?

Thanks John, I ordered the software from Adorama and I'm expecting it today. I did use a DNG converger, I found it kind of slow, maybe thats because of the file size.
I'm curious to see if the conversion files will look the same as the direct raw files I'm used to seeing in Lightroom. It'll be good to compare. While waiting I looked at the files in Digital Photo Professional and the files looked incredible. I was able to open one at a time in PS but in TIFF format. Not the most practical but impressive. I'm loving the D5 Mark 111

I found this discussion about three or four months ago. I was having the same problem with Safari not opening, along with my other login items.

HOWEVER... Today, all of the sudden... Out of out of the blue... I have the same problem, again!?
I tried removing, then re-adding, the URL file from the log in items, automatic open list.
It did not work?
Does anybody have any ideas/solutions regarding this issue? This is becoming VERY aggravating!

Trash is not working, with the message saying: "You can’t open the Trash because it’s being emptied." at the same time not able to shut down my computer... What may I do?

One thing to try: Hold down option key, then press and hold Finder icon in dock. Select "Relaunch".

Unable to open images by double clicking or dragging image to icon in dock - can only open by going to file open

I can no longer open images on the desktop by clicking or by dragging to the Photoshop CS 1 icon on the dock. I can only open by going to File - Open. I was able to do this before my Mac OSX 10.3.9 version crashed and I re-installed 10.3.4 and upgraded now to 10.4.11. Help?

When I open FirFox version 4.01b, 2 icons appears on my dock! When i close one of them, a message of flash crashing appear, then it reopening the icon by itself again.

That usually means that Windows notices that the program isn't responding.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I got problem in iPhoto, please help!
All photos can see in small icons in iPhoto, but I can't open it or can't see it when I click on photos (it always appear black & white "!" inside big circle. I even can't sync any of these photos in my iPhone.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Automatic icons appear on dock folders

When using OSX10.4.11 I created folders that I put on the dock (folder side). When I updated to OSX10.5.7 unwanted icons appeared on these folders, each a copy of an icon inside the individual folder, obscuring the labels that I had put on the folders. How can I remove these unwanted icons, or alternatively at least select my choice of an icon in the folder?
