New icon next to the battery....never seen it before

Hi
I noticed today that my iphone has a new icon next to the battery meter at the top right hand corner of the screen.
The icon looks like a phone handset with 2 rows of button under it.
I have looked at all my setting and can't figure out how to make it go away or how it got there.
Does anyone know what this is or anyone have the same icon?

TTY
Settings>Phone>TTY
TTY, also known as Text Telephone Device or Telecommunication Device for the Deaf (TDD), is a special device required at both ends of the conversation that enables people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired to use the telephone to communicate. TTY works by allowing people to type messages back and forth to one another instead of talking and listening.

If you see this symbol in the status bar, it means that TTY is on.  Choose Settings > Phone to turn TTY on or off.

  • New Icon next to my battery

I was in the middle of sending a text when a new icon appeared next to my battery. It looks like a phone with a keyboard under it. I've never seen it before.

That icon is for a TTY adaptor if it's connected. Do you use one? check page 17 and 113 of the iPhone user manual http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
It doesn't say how to turn it on/off though. Maybe try a reset?

  • What is the arrow icon next to the battery percent?

I think it's showing that something is downloading but no apps are open right now and the arrow won't go away.

You can see what the icons mean in the manual:

  • What's this status icon mean next to the battery???

ok, so a new icom right next to the battery just showed up on my phone, and i have no idea what it is.
that's pretty much what it looks like, kinda like a phone hung up on it's base, and 2 rows of dots underneith. It's alot smaller obviously and directly to the left of the battery icon in the top right corner.
I've read through all 125 pages of the user manual and it's not mentioned anywhere, i also went through bout 9 pages of this discussion as well.
someone PLEASE tell me what the **** it is.

  • In the videos I've seen a thumbnail icon next to the bookmarks icon. Mine is missing. Any idea why or how to get it.

In the videos on the website I have seen a thumbnail icon next to the bookmarks icon for viewing all your open web pages. Mine is missing.Any idea why or how do I put one on?

Safari now uses tabs in iOS 5 so that icon is no longer in Safari. You have to tap on the + sign on the right side of the toolbar to create a new tab. You can open a new web site in that tab. You navigate from open page to open page by tapping on the tabs.
To close a tab - tap on the X in the left side of the tab.

  • After 3.0.1 new icon next to battery %

After the upgrade to 3.0.1 there is a new icon that appears to be a phone handset above buttons and it is next to the battery % in the top right of the screen.
Any idea what it is? I turn on airplane mode to see if it related to the phone and nothing changed.
    Thanks

Check out page 21 of the User Guide to find out what all the various icons mean.

  • I am getting a message "Not Charging" next to the battery icon.

When I plug my iPad into a wall socket, I get a ping as if it is charging but the message next to the battery icon says Not Charging.  I have tried several different charging cables.

Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Greetings,
Hm. I've never seen that in iCal.  In some other Applications the tilde "~" indicates a restore point or a before / after for a file.  My guess is there is a broken cache file in iCal.
    Try:
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
If that doesn't resolve the issue:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.
