New Ideapad Flex 15 - recovery partition too small!!

Hi - I'm trying to backup my system using the One Key App, but when I do, I find that the recovery partition (D: drive) is too small to accept the size of the backup image.
I don't have a CD drive and the One Key app won't allow me to backup to a network folder on my desktop PC.
Please help.

Hi, Gabe687,
How about your problem now? The warning: "merging the D drive with the C drive may cause a boot error and data loss" because of when extend system drive partition, Windows boot file might be corrupt.
To reduce C drive capacity, you can try to make Disk Cleanup for test.
Right click C drive, choose Properties, Disk Cleanup.

  • Flex PDF Printing too small need 8 1/2 x 11

I am using Adobe Flex with  IBI's WebFOCUS Enable. Once I export my SWT file to Adobe Flex in PDF format works fine on the screen until I print. Printing on 8 1/2 x 11 paper shows up in the lower left hand bottom about 4 times too small. I heard it has to fit Adobe flex pallet or be shrunk. Is there some conversion software to remedy this? Please adivse. Joe

Quick look at the "save as" feature has a list a mile long, including vector, autocad, xml, and more. Personally, I haven't used the program beyond playing with it and researching to discover it cannot do dates with the time period I need (though I imagine there might be a way to manually create the dates).
I've found Timeline Maker, and it looks like it can do what I need without a large learning curve. However, I would very much like to learn how to work most effectively in InDesign (rather than spread my learning across several programs). I do have a subscription to Lynda.com, and I have worked through a few tutorials, but I didn't apply what I learned immediately thereafter...and it seems I've forgotten much of what I learned!
If you have any recommendations for a novice working with InDesign CS5 who is trying to make a print book with maps, timelines, and perhaps an ebook with animations, I'd be grateful.
Presently, I'm setting up files to correspond with my outline. (Trying to manage chaos.) Any input in that regard would be appreciated. Since I'm working alone, I don't have the benefit of seeing any "industry standards".)
    Thanks again,
    Stacy

  • Disk Utility - Solution for a Weird MediaKit Partition "too small" Error

I found a very suggestive article, could be a silver bullet for this kind of problem.
    +*quote from SWedd*+
+In my case, it was caused by the Apple_Bootstrap partition (created during Ubuntu install), of format unknown to OSX. This partition was positioned right after my Macintosh_HD partition. To enlarge my Macintosh_HD I needed to use diskutil to erase the Apple_Bootstrap partition to a blank "MS-DOS" partition. Then I could use Disk Utility to Delete the MS-DOS partition. After that I could resize my Macintosh_HD freely.+
In my understanding, if you failed to increase the size of a certain partition, it might mean a partition just after that partition is corrupted or broken (whether or not it is corrupted, you can know it by using command "diskutil info ...").
With command "diskutil eraseVolume ..." you can erase the partition in question, then with "diskutil mergePartitions ..." merge the partition you want to increase in size and the partition you just erased. Now you can increase the size without any error.
Anyway, diskutil can do several things which Disk Utility can't do.
To resort to diskutil is sure worthwhile.

Welcome to the Apple forums and thanks for the information.
    Warning:
    The terminal command
    diskutil
should be used with care, as with most terminal commands.
A good rule to remember is "If you do not know what something will do, do not do it."
For information on diskutil, in a terminal enter
    man diskutil

Yep, your home partition is directly after the root partition, so what I suggested should work, however, give good consideration to the size of each, considering you don't have another drive (according to df) to use for storage. Personally, I only have 12GB on my home partition (after resizing) and now have 23GB on root.

  • HD partition too small

When we configured our PowerMac G5, which has two internal drives with 160 GB each, we dedicated 50GB to the HD partition one drive 1, and left the rest of drive 1 to hold video footage. (We partioned drive 2 into two equal parts.)
We didn't plan on upgrading to Final Cut Pro 5 studio, which requires approx. 30 GB. We only have 9 GB left on the HD partition. We cannot install FCP Studio on the second partition -- it needs to be installed wherever the system folder (and applications folder) is located.
What is the best procedure to move all relevant data, so we can erase and repartition drive 1 and increase the size of the HD volume?
Many thanks in advance for any tips.
    -anna

    Thank you!
So, I think the steps would be:
    (1) download CCC [http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
    (2) Run CCC and clone the entire HD to an extrenal FW drive. Make this the start-up disk
    (3) Restart using the System on the external drive -- I guess this would also give me the peace of mind that the clone is in perfect working condition
    (4) Run disk Utility and repartition the HD
    (5) Run CCC again and clone the HD contents on the extrenal FW drive back to HD. Make this the start-up disk.
    (6) Erase the extrenal FW drive
Is this what you would do? Please correct and/or add anything I got wrong or missed.
    Many thanks!

  • Boot Camp Partition too small

I created a boot camp partition for Windows 7 a few months ago, but I didn't make it big enough. Now I'm getting a "not enough space" message when I try to update to boot camp 3.2. I seem to remember that if I need to resize, I need to reinstall boot camp again - is that right, because I can't find where I read that?
I have a 2010 Macbook pro, 2.66 gHz, and my 32-bit windows partition was installed as 18 gb. I didn't think about having to run other software, like itunes, when I created the partition.
I've not been able to change the trackpad such that I can tap rather than click (VERY difficult for me to work with), and I was hoping boot camp 3.2 might fix that.
Any advice on all this would be gratefully received.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Toocool4.
Hatter, I always search for solutions before I ask - I come to forums as a last resort when I'm not confident about proceeding without some advice. If you don't like the questions I ask, you don't have to get involved and answer. I didn't ask anything about doing backups - I backup my data regularly to an external drive. I asked what "backup system image" meant because I hadn't heard that expression before and I thought it might have been something critical I needed to know before I reinstalled my partition.
Before I moved over to Mac, I spent 9 years learning how to maintain my own pc, so I've got some idea of what I'm doing. But there are always things to learn, and I'm grateful to those who are willing to share their knowledge - I've used what I've learned to help those of my friends who are real novices, and at times I've even contributed to forums.
Since I only use my Windows partition for music, I think it'll be simple enough for me to just recreate. The 15-20 percent rule sounds like a good one, Toocool4, and I wish I'd thought of it before! This time I'll build a partition factoring in the size of software, like itunes, as well, and I'll make it big enough to cover everything!
If I've misunderstood the image-creating ideas, please set me straight; otherwise I'll assume just going thru the bootcamp instructions will serve me well again.
And BTW, I'm a GIRL, not a guy.

  • Partition too small

Time Machine is now chewing up my oldest backups to make space, because it has used up the partition (I call this one Auto). I have another partition on the same drive called Manual. Disk Utility shows Manual on top, and Auto below.
What I want to do is enable Time Machine to use the whole drive. But Disk Utility won't let me use any space I free up from Manual to use to increase the size of the Auto partition. You can't move the start of a partition forward/up - it seems.
What are my options here, to give Time Machine more space? And can I retain the existing TM backups?
    Thanks!!

Shifting partitions to the "left"/top requires physically shifting the location of data on disk. It's a slow and risky process to perform on a disk containing data, which is probably why Disk Utility doesn't support it. What you'll want to do is backup the contents of the disc (beware: many programs cannot back up Time Machine Backup files — use Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, or Disk Utility's "Restore" feature to do this), and reformat it as a single partition (this will delete all data on the disk), then you can simply clone your time machine backups back to the single volume and then you should be able to backing without losing your previous backup states.

  • You recently sent me a new sim but it is too small and does not fit into my phon

I don't know what you mean

    Hi,
You need to call EE and ask them to send you the correct size. Make sure they don't charge you.
Or you can go into store.
    Thanks,

  • Ideapad Flex 15 HDMI output

I have a new Ideapad Flex 15, and I'm trying to output video to a second monitor via HDMI. I have an HDMI cable, but I can't get the ideapad to detect the second display. Any pointers?

I just tested with my Sony 3D display. The moment the HDMI cable was plugged in, "clone" mode was activated.
The HDMI port is quite deep, so make sure the HDMI cable is all the way in. The last centimeter or so is really stiff, so it may not be all the way in. The plastic shell of the HDMI connector should be flush with the case.

  • Ideapad flex 15, windows 8.1 and Intel applications

I just got a new ideapad flex 15. I began updating everying and removing the bloat-ware. After installing 8.1 I noticed that all of the intel experience applications crashed immedatly when ran. Of coarse, phone support charges for answering this issue (even when telling me specifcally "we have the answer if you will pay for preimum support"... thanks....).
Does anyone know of issues with 8.1 and intel, or the Flex 15 and intel?
    Thanks for any help.

Sorry for double-post, as I saw your update after I replied.
Confirmed the issue with Intel EC. Same as you described.
Here is the driver update to get the Intel EC drivers for Windows 8.1: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23355
Windows 8.1, although a progressive update, is more like the transition from Vista -> 7. There are a lot of functionality changes that the old drivers don't work with in 8.1. Once we have all your issues resolved, I'll post a list of drivers to the support team to see if we can get an 8.1 patch issued.

  • IdeaPad Flex 14 Sleep Issues

I have a relatively new IdeaPad Flex 14 (less than two months old), and I have the problem that when the computer goes to sleep on its own, it often cannot be woken up by either opening the laptop or pressing any key.  Lightly pressing on the Power button does not work, either.  I have to hold the Power button down for a few good seconds and completely shut the machine down.
I have extended the time limit for when it goes to sleep on its own under Power Management options, but it is very frustrating that this problem exists in the first place.
Does anyone else have this problem?  OS is 8.1.  (I didn't notice whether the problem existed with 8.0 before I upgraded because I upgraded to 8.1 as soon as I got it.)
    Thanks in advance!!!

I have the same problem with a brand new Yoga Flex 14D, which I received with Windows 8.1 already installed.
Sleep *might* have been working when I received it (not sure anymore), but now (a few program installs later) it hangs when put to sleep/standby and has to be force-shutdown.

Try asking your Boot Camp question in the Boot Camp forum rather than in the Windows Compatibility forum. The Boot Camp gurus hang out in the Boot Camp forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp

  • The guide to bootcamp assistant states that bootcamp can only be installed on a drive with a single partition. New Macs with Lion preinstalled have two partitions - the second is a recovery partition.  How do I install Bootcamp?

Late in August 2011 I took delivery of a new 27" iMac with Lion preinstalled.  I need to run Windows as well. Following Apple's written suggestion, I printed off the then current 12 pages of the document "Bootcamp Installation & Setup Guide" which clearly stated that the hard drive you were going to install on had to have on it, before install, a maximum of one partition.  Using finder and disk utility I determined that there was only one partition.  Unbeknownst to me, there was (is) an additional hidden (from those two pieces of software) partition on the disk.  As of machines delivered new with Lion preinstalled, Apple has begun to include a "recovery partition".  In that partition there is a copy of the software necessary to reinstall Lion via a download from the Apple App Store.  Not knowing the partition was there, I cranked up  "Bootcamp Assistant" which nicely offered to repartition my hard drive creating a "Bootcamp Partition" in addition to the existing.  I told it how big to make each and hit the do it button, subsequently destroying my operating system.  Oh, it very nicely told me, after the damage was done, how many partitions were REALLY on the disk and that I could not install Bootcamp cause there were too many partitions.
Luckily the the Recovery Partition, which at that point I knew existed, was not harmed and after doing some research on another compter, I used it to once again download Lion from the App Store and reinstall. So, I have recovered but am still stuck with the problem:  how do I install Bootcamp in this new environment?

First you need to seriously back up your Mac.
A clone is an exact duplicate of your existing Mac HDD. Merely copying and pasting a drive will not make a bootable backup. In case of problems you can boot from an Ext HDD clone and use the utilities to repair, reformat, or clone the Ext HDD back to the internal Mac HDD.  While Time machine back ups are easy you can not boot from it. The best thing to have for any kind of problem is a bootable clone backup on an external drive. Some even have two external backup drives in case one fails. There are two good apps for cloning named SuperDuper and Carbon Copy Cloner.
In dealing with the recovery partition a simple approach is to clone the Mac partition to an external disk then re-partition the Mac to a single partition (GUID partition table) . Then clone the external disk clone back to the Mac. You will now have only one Partition and Boot Camp assistant sould not object.
Some have recommended getting rid of the recovery partition while others have advised not to do this. If you have the Lion USB Thumb Drive you do not need a recovery partition so can discard it without concern. There is another way to get rid of the recovery partition if you decide to do it but first be sure to have a backup of your Mac ( I know I sound like a nagging mom but many dead computers have been saved by this simple precaution).
    Use Disk Utility.
    1) Make the Recovery visible in Disk Utility by using a program like Secrets:http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27025/secrets or MacPilot:http://www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php (15 day free trial).
    2) Highlite the Recovery partition and Control click it and select Mount the partition.
    3) With the Recovery partition highlited, erase the partition, you'll get an error message, ignore it.
    4) Now highlite the top identity of the hard drive and select the partition tab.
    5) Highlite the Recovery partition and press the minus sign.
    6) Click and hold on the bottom edge of the partition above and drag it to the bottom, if it doesn't go there automatically, the press apply.

  • How can I remove the BootCamp partition? as the size i created ws too small to install MS Office on 64Bit Windows 8.1 on MacBook Pro (Aug'13)

How can I remove the BootCamp partition drive for Windows 8.1, as the size which I created was too small for me to install Microsoft Office onto Windows 8.1 64-BIt. The machine which I have is the MacBook Pro 13' inch purchased in August 2013.

Either use Paragon's CampTuneX to resize it or use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition and restore the drive to one partition. Then create a new, larger Boot Camp partition. This will remove/delete/erase your Windows system.
