New Ideapad U160 scratched - is this normal?

My new U160 Notebook arrived today and I found it scratched on the power button on the black bar surrounding the status lights. The box was properly sealed and I did find any signs of tampering. I can still exchange the unit but would only do so if this is not normal. Please advise.

can you upload any photo?

  • Opening a link using "open link in new window" does not work. I can only use "open in new tab" option. Is this normal with the Firefox 4?

I really don't have any more info. When I upgraded my Firefox to the latest version I have noticed that I can 't use this Open in new window option any more. I have reinstalled the software using its US English version( first time I have chosen the UK English version) but to no avail.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Insignia 50 Inch 720p TV Brand new With Green Snow, Is this normal?

I got my first Plasma last weekend got it all hooked up and thing's are looking good. But it didn't take me long to notice a Green snow/fizz that is only on Black and dark area's. 90% of the time you can't see it if your 4-5 feet from tv. When you get closer you can see it.  It really stuck out tonight when playing a very dark game on the Xbox 360 even from my normal setting range i can see the green Snow over the dark areas. It also show's up pretty bad in Thor on Blue Ray in the dark area's early in the movie. If you look close to the tv i can see it in black's on the Xbox 360 Dashboard and On the playstation 3.
Is this a normal Plasma thing? Or should i box it up and drive the fourty miles next weekend and Exchange it and try again?

This is observable on all plasma TV's to some degree at close range. Recommended viewing distance rule is generally 2x the screen size (50" x 2 = 100") so the recommended viewing distance for your TV is 8-10 feet. If you can see snow or incorrectly lit pixels from the recommended viewing distance the power supply may require a minor adjustment. Plasma panels are very picky about the power supply voltage running them & components sometimes 'drift' within their tolerance sometimes causing such an issue. Regarding plasma technology, it is generally not recommended to have a 'static' or unchanging image on the screen for an extended period of time to prevent image retention or 'screen burn'.

  • New connection very slow - is this normal ?

    Hi
I just had option 3 broadband installed today but seem to be stuck on an IP profile of 2 Mbps. It was supposed to be 6-8, probably 7 Mbps.
The line is clean and I tried the quiet line and it was very quiet.
I understand there's a 10 day bedding in period, but wouldn't it start high and go down from there ?
How long will I have to wait at 2 Mbps ?
    Cheers

  • My new at Christmas iPad air requires a reboot at least once a day sometimes more. Is this normal?

My new iPad air requires a reboot at least once a day, sometimes more . Is this normal?

That type of error could indicate a WiFi network problem. That type of error can usually be gotten around by simply turning off/on WiFi in the Control Panel or Settings. There may or may not be any problem with your iPad Air. It won't hurt to have it checked out. You could also test your iPad on some other WiFi networks to see if it has any problems there. If it doesn't you might want to take a closer look at your network.

  • Fan is alway running on my new dv7-4290us. Should I exchange for a new one or is this normal?

I just got my new dv7-4290us from the HP store and after a little while of playing with it, I noticed that the fan seems to always be running. It's not spinning very fast, just kind of a soft blowing or purring sound but audible for sure. Is this normal for this notebook or notebooks with quad cores and dedicated graphics? I called HP tech support and asked them if it was normal for the fan to run all the time, but they where kind of clueless with, 3 different guys giving me 3 different answers. I did mess around with some power management settings and the HP Thermal program but that didn't help. Turning off the fan always on setting in the bios just causes the fan to blow up every 20 seconds, so that is not a solution. There wasn't a bios update on the driver page, so I don't know about that as a fix. Otherwise everything seems to be functioning properly with no BSOD or lockups so far.  The computer doesn't seem to be running hot (core temps stay under 50°c under light load) and the fan doesn't sound unhealthy like it has a bad bearing or anything. I just want to know if the fan always running at a low speed thing is normal on these machines. From my expereince with notebooks the fan alway running is a sign that your system is not cooling properly, so I wanted to get a second opinion from fellow users before I go through the hastle of exchanging this for a new one.

Does this happen on AC power only?  There maybe an option in BIOS for 'Fan always on while on AC power'.

  • Just bought a new iMac and it is telling me it will take 27 hours to transfer documents from the old one!! Is this normal? Can I speed this up some how??

I just bought a new iMac and it says it will take 27 hours to transfer documents from the old mac! Is this normal? Can I speed this up??

If you are transferring with Wi-Fi or Ethernet and you have to transfer a lot of files, it's normal. Wi-Fi and Ethernet are the slowest methods to transfer files.
Instead, you can check if your old Mac has got a FireWire 800 port. If so, you can get a Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter and a FireWire cable, so the transfer will be done by FireWire, making the migration faster.
If you don't want to spend money, continue the migration. Another thing you can do is to get an external drive, make a Time Machine backup of your old Mac and use the backup to transfer your files to the new Mac. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. My new 32gb iPhone 5 gets too hot during phone calls. Is this normal?

Mine will get hot mostly if I'm in an area with poor reception.  The phone will juice up the power output to lock onto a signal and will cause it to get hot and battery will drain much faster.

You can get a thunderbolt to firewire adapter. You can then get a firewire 400 to 800 cable and put the old computer in target mode. Then you can follow these instructions.

  • New C20's Are super loud! Over 65db! Is this normal?

We just recieved two new C20's.  However, they are super loud.  I've measured the sound at around 65db.  I've set the fan mode to "quiet" in the bios, but that made no difference.

Thank you for being patient with my clumsy entrance into this forum.  Please be aware that I am first a database manager and second a PC tech. My network and hardware manager has thrown up his arms on this and only my tenacity, some PC maintenance experience and a brain qualify me to get to the bottom of this issue.  I am having to look a lot of stuff up that you might consider common knowledge for someone taking on this task. This is also our first Windows 7 machine.
That said, here is what I have in response:
    1) The heat sink fan assembly (per the user guide identification) is plugged into the "brown" board header
    2) The rear fan assemblies(2) (per the user guide identification) are plugged into a white board header in their vicinity. They are the noise makers.
    3) BIOS Version/Date    LENOVO 61KT43AUS, 8/31/2010 The current version is 61KT45A so I downloaded the files per instructions on the website. However, it is much easier to say, "Have you tried flashing to the latest level..." than it is to do it. WINPHLASH failed on what the error message says is a permissions issue but is not. I will have to risk turning my brand new machine into a brick the old fashioned way, with a bootable CD. Since for me that will take an hour or more for research and execution,  I will let you know how it goes.
    4) The "driver" I mentioned is
LENOVO Fan Speed Control Driver for Windows           version 1.0.1.9, 07/31/2009
