New IMac 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 will not burn to CDR media

I have a new IMac IMac 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 that will not burn to CDR media. When I insert a blank CDR it immediately opens DiskUtility. But I can't burn to the CD; it does not recogize the disk. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to diagnose if my CD burner is defective and was shipped to me defective. I didnt discover this problem until after I had the computer for, say, a month and then found I could not burn to my supply [of some 80+] blank CDRs.

I'm going to call Apple Customer service tomorrow, I think this is a bad/defective superdrive. Hopefully I can get it replaced under warranty, and have the work done here in town, I would hate to send it away, this is my main unit for my small business.... I think I am just talking to myself at this point....

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

    Give this a try:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • How do I mirror my 24"iMac 2.8GHz Intel core 2 duo to my Apple TV? I am running Mountain Lion and My iMac is an early 2008 model. Thanks

I purchased Apple TV yesterday strictly to mirror my desktop to my TV. Now I find out my desktop is not supported? How can I mirror my iMac to my Apple TV? I am running Mountain Lion and the iMac is a 2.8 GHz with intel core 2 duo from early 2008.
    Thanks for your help!

You cannot officially do this Apple's way as they do not support your computer for Airplay.
There is a software solution called Airparrot that you may want to demo:

Some people are pleased with it othes not so much.

  • New imac 1.8ghz intel Old g4 10.2.8 migration assistant palm5.2.8 isync

I am awaiting my new imac 17". I was told by the mac store that i can transferr my user accounts, itunes, etc. via target mode and migration assistant. I have been reading as much as i can find about this, but this brings up more questions than answers.
I read that i should only sync my palm on one machine. i want to sync it with the new imac, but read that the migration assistant will not transfer this info. is this true
what is the best way to sync my old palm with my new imac without loosing all my old data? I also use eprocates with my palm which is another program. as is with my old g4 computer it works ok. I am afraid what complications lay ahead.
thanks in advance for any help

What they have said is correct to some degree, but not completely.
The primary purpose of the migration assistant is to user user data to your new environment. To insure that your user data—which includes contact, calendaring and task data used by the Address Book and iCal and synchronized using iSync—is transfered properly to your new machine, you should use the migration process with your source disk in FireWire target mode.
But you should also do this: depending upon which specific Palm organizer or smartphone you are using, you should install the Palm Desktop on your new machine using the package on the CD-ROM bundled with your device, then update it with the downloadable 4.2.1 revision D package if that package is later than or equal to the bundled package. Once you've installed the Palm Desktop on your new machine, you should launch iSync and add your device to it using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option in that application.
Do not synchronize until you have performed the migration of your user data, opened the Address Book and iCal to insure that your records appear there and are complete and contemporary, have backed up both records types using the built-in Back up… option under the file menu of each application, have installed and updated the Palm Desktop, and have added your device to iSync. When you first synchronize on the new machine, you should choose to overwrite [or replace, in iSync terminology] the records on your Palm device. Do not merge the records during this initial synchronization on your new machine.
ePocrates is a more complex issue. Users have had recurring difficulty synchronizing this application in the OS X environment. This note below explains why you should investigate using the Missing Sync for Palm OS instead of either the Palm Desktop or iSync to synchronize your device:
Information on how to bypass the ePocrates Macintosh conduit and sync with ePocrates via Internet Sharing
User wants to sync with ePocrates using the Missing Sync for Palm OS application
The ePocrates Macintosh conduit is supported by the Missing Sync for Palm OS application. However, many users of the Epocrates Mac conduit have experienced inconsistent results, corrupted Epocrates databases and the need to reinstall the handheld Epocrates software.
Customers report that using the Internet Sharing feature to bypass the ePocrates conduit and sync directly with ePocrates produces better and more consistent results.
Requirements for this bypass to work:
    • ePocrates already installed on your handheld
    • the Missing Sync for Palm OS 4.0.2, or higher [currently 5.1]
    • a Palm device in its cradle, connected to your Mac via USB [Bluetooth optional]*
To sync with ePocrates, do the following:
    1. Connect your device via USB to your Mac
    2. Set up Internet Sharing on your device (refer to the Internet Sharing Assistant from the Help menu for setup information
    3. Tap on the "AutoUpdate" application that was installed with ePocrates
    4. In the ePocrates main display window you should see the following information :
    Server : ePocrates Server
    Server Addr : sync6.epocrates.com
    Port : 80
    User Name : <enter your name here>
    Password : <enter your password>
    Enabled check box : checked
    5. Tap the Sync button in the ePocrates AutoUpdate application
*This relatively old technical note does not mention internet sharing via Bluetooth, but it is available. You will find, however, that the USB path is a faster and more reliable choice.
If you let me know which Palm device you will be using, I can give you more specific instructions than those generally outlined above regarding the Palm Desktop. It's critical to install the package, as iSync requires the HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor to be installed to perform the synchronization of Palm devices.

  • Brand new iMAC, Mountain Lion installed, dashboard widgets will not download. Webpage times out. Any suggestions?

Just purchased a brand new iMAC and sucessfully performed download and install of Mountain Lion (free upgrade). Discovered that dashboard widgets will not download as webpage times_out in both Safari and Firefox. Already set security to allow downloads from 'anywhere' but with no change. Downloads from anywhere else works fine, just widgets won't work, and I've been trying for several days now. Any suggestions? (firewall is off).

  • Macbook Pro intel core duo, will not boot to anything.

Greetings, I am currently having issues with my MacBook Pro.  I get the flashing folder with the ?, but I can't boot to any of the startup utilities.  I have tried all that I have read about on other posts, such as, trying to boot with the C key held down (it just gets to the folder ?), booting to disk utility didn't work ( held down keys and it went to the folder ?), I also tried getting to the hardware test, by holding D and having the applications disk in.  And still everything I try gets me to the flashing folder ?.  Also I do have the CD's that came with the laptop and tried to install from the mas os install CD and still get to the flashing folder ?.  The reason it started doing this was because of this......  I had boot camp installed and was running dual boot with windows 7, then I had deleted the mac osx on the drive so I would only be using windows 7.  I wanted to reformat the drive after this, but had a hard time finding out a way to actually do this, as the MacBook unlike PC's, doesn't have any BIOS, and at that time didn't know all the key commands to use at startup.  So I downloaded a program from the net that can run at windows start and delete the HD before the computer fully boots windows 7.  So after I deleted the HD I could not install any program or start any of the mac utilities at startup, and I did the PRAM reset, still everything that I try it gets me to the flashing folder ?, in the end.  Could I have deleted all of the startup utilities when I wiped the HD?  If so how can I get these back on my MacBook pro if I can't get the MacBook pro to read any files or start up utilities?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: I found a way to download firmware, I thought that it could be the reason I get the flashing folder with ?, because maybe I somehow damaged the firmware on my computer when I did the reformat.  Alas I followed the directions to re-install the firmware and still I get to the same flashing folder.  I used FirmwareRestorationCD1.4  I think it is the one I needed for my model, MacBook Pro 15"  intel core 2 duo, and comes with osx 10.5 leopard I think, the OSX CD is stamped 2008 for 15" MacBook Pro.  I can't check the properties of my MacBook because it has no programs on it, but this is what I think it is from memory and deduction.  Well now I guess I have to ask the question, is the firmware the programs installed such as disk utility, and recovery mode?  I need to read more I guess, and also I thought I needed to take the 1.4 off the end of the FirmwareRestorationCD in order for it to work, but the instructions for making and using the firmware CD is a bit vague.  Another factor in this to make things more difficult, is that this computer is my second computer and it's a PC laptop, so I used a program download from the net to write .dmg files to disk, it's called Transmac, could this be another fault in my creation of the CD?  I am out of ideas again as to what I need to do to get mac OSX back on my computer,  I am still a bit new to the way macs work, so I could definatley use some advice.  thanks.

  • OS X Lion, Slowing down an iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

My iMac may not be the fastest machine out there, but it is fast enough to run Lion.  Yet it seems that it is requiring a significant amount of resources, more than it really should.
Switching users, Running Office 2011, Photoshop CS4, and various other programs seems to choke after opening up.  I have enough ram, I am going to be upgrading my computer to a new one soon, but I still would like to know why this is happening?
Is there a way to do a clean install of Lion? Perhaps this may fix a few issues, but either way I need some help I think.

Switching users, Running Office 2011, Photoshop CS4, and various other programs seems to choke after opening up.
Both Photoshop and the Office applications are RAM hungry applications but my experience with a Core 2 Duo computer with 4GB is that it is up to the challenge of running any two of them plus one or two smaller applications. For example, late last week I was working on a project with Filemaker Pro, Photoshop, RapidWeaver, and Word running. I didn't notice that my computer was any slower with Lion than it was with Snow Leopard. Now I'll admit, I upgraded my MBP to 8GB two days ago and there's a noticeable difference. Prior to the upgrade I found that Aperture and Photoshop running together was fine but I really couldn't add anything else to the mix without switching between two programs becoming noticably slow. But I never saw Lion 'choke'.
So what I'm saying is depending on how you use your computer, RAM (and avaiilable drive space) play a large roll in how fast Lion feels. I think 4GB is plenty for many people but some will definitely benefit from 8GB. And if you don't have 10-15GB of free hard drive space, this could be another factor.

HI, I just bought that imac 2011 27", and I would like to know the frame rate for videogames as call of duty black ops, max settings and 2560x1400, thanks

I used to play Black Ops, Max settings i was getting 30minimum but mostly around low 40's.
Battlefield Bad company is around 60fps on high.

  • MacBookPro 2.3GHz Intel Core i7 will not start-at all

My MacBook will periodically just not start. It is more likely to do this if it has been off for while (as in a week) or after the battery has run low. I have to keep pressing the start button. I will sometimes press and hold and nothing will happen, or I might try a "quick" press down. Eventually the unit will power up.
Yes the powercord is attached and has the "green" connected/charge light on.
This is very disconcerting because sometimes it wont come on at all for a long while (as in over an hour of trying). Once it starts up it loads up all programs fine.
I would really apprecaite any recommendations before escalating to product support. (It is currently on and running)

The symptoms that you describe suggest a bad switch.  The best option is a trip to the Apple store genius bar for a free definitive diagnosis.
    Ciao.

  • 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel core i7     WILL IT WORK WITH FCP?

I am planning on purchasing the new IMAC 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel core i7 27" screen for work with FCP. The requirements to install FCP state in relevent part:
ATI or NVIDIA graphics processor (integrated Intel Graphics processors not supported).
Does this mean that the 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel core i7 27" screen will NOT OPERATE FCP. I know that the Quad-Core Intel i7 is an upgrade for the system should I stay with the basic NVIDIA graphics processor?

I understand there is a difference between the "graphics cards" and the Processor and Memory?
    Graphics Cards:
27-inch model with dual-core processor, one of the following:
ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory
ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory
    27-inch model with quad-core processor:
ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory
I am going to purchase the quad-core processor which will come with the ATI Radeon HD 4850 processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory
The Processor and memory according to Apple Specs are as follows:
27-inch models only, one of the following:
2.66GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with 8MB shared L3 cache; Turbo Boost dynamic performance up to 3.2GHz
2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 8MB shared L3 cache; Turbo Boost dynamic performance up to 3.46GHz; Hyper-Threading for up to eight virtual cores
I would like to purchase the 2.8GHz quad-core Intel core i7 processor
This is where my concern is when FCP says (integrated Intel graphics processors not supported)!

  • IWeb 2.0.1 vs 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme iMac

I'm attempting to run iWeb 2.0.1 on a new 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme iMac.
It crashes at startup, always, but oddly.
It opens and partially operates, but won't display the iWeb window. The menus are operational, but of course mostly dimmed since there's no object there to receive the commands. (For example, all File > New choices are dimmed.)
This is clean machine - no previous iWeb sites to convert.
In fact, iWeb doesn't create a ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites or domain.sites2 file when it opens.
Creating one on another system, transferring it, adjusting permissions, and opening it locked iWeb up entirely.
Creating a new user account and opening iWeb in it has no effect. Nor does logging on as root.
Deleting the entire iLife '08 suite, reinstalling from scratch, running Software Update, and then opening iWeb produces the same result. All the other iLife apps run fine.
Is anyone else able to get iWeb 2.0.1 to run on an Intel Core 2 Extreme system? It's DOA so far as I can tell.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
I've run out of espresso, and ideas.
    Thanks,
    Bryan

I was unable to launch iWeb 2.0 at first, but it turned out to be corrupted font caches. You can use the free Font Nuke program to delete your font caches (a harmless process):
    <http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21536>
It's worth a try. Corrupt font caches can cause all sorts of inexplicable system problems.

    Hi,
    This is the compatibility list
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
if your iMac is mid2007 or newer - yes.
You will need to upgrade to 10.6 (Snow Leopard) first buy DVD from online apple store
Then to 10.7 Lion - buy and download via Store App included in SL
and then 10.8 Mountain Lion upgrade the same steps as Lion
