New iMac 2013 crashing using FCPX
My new full-loaded top of the line 2013 iMac has been consistently crashing the past few days. I've tried disconnecting external drives, closing other apps but the problem still persists.Sometimes it's a temporary stalling but recently it's been a full on crash. It seems to occur just when FCPX needs to render. I ran CONSOLE and this is the message I got:

Any ideas?
Most of the crashes freeze my entire computer requiring a full re-start with the power button. Below is a report from a FCPX crash that occurred this morning. In terms of effects, I'm using Ripple Tools FS FXFactory in the project specifically the GUIDES tool. Other than that the only other "change" I made before these issues started was using the opentype font META in the project. Fonts are being loaded using FontExplorer X Pro.
Here is the crash report:

Can i install Windows XP on new iMac 2013 to use quickbooks
I have just bought a new iMac 2013 and need to use my Windows Quickbooks programme for our small business. I understand that I can use Bootcamp to install my Windows XP and then Quickbooks 2010/11.
Is it true that the new iMac Bootcamp no longer supports Windows XP? I realistically only use the Quickbooks every 3 months. What is my best solution to be able to use Quickbooks on my new iMacNo. Boot Camp only supports Windows 7 or Windows 8. If you want to use XP, then you will need to use virtualization software such as:
Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
1. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
with OS X.
2. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
3. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows. The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
4. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive. -

hey, can i use the mac remote control on the new imac 2013? if so, how?
No,
The new iMacs no longer have an IR receiver.
If you want to control your iMac remotely.
If you own an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

New IMac is crashing randomly because of "Panic Kernel Error." Now IMac startup disk is not visible and will not mount. What the story with this machine. Running 10.6.7
Almost certainly, some sort of hardware problem on your logic board.
Make an appointment and take it to your local Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ -
New IMac is crashing randomly..a semi-transparent gray veil appears
New IMac is crashing randomly..a semi-transparent gray veil appears from top of monitor and animates down the screen. Message appears to restart the computer. Running 10.6.7, 2.8 GHz Core i5, 4Gb ram. What is causing this?
You've experienced a kernel panic; they can be caused by several things, usually though defective RAM can be suspected. here is some information for you:

I had a Macbook pro I installed some Plugin Demos (red giant and Filmconvert) a few days later one of my projects with multiple clips and lots of files in it crashes repeatedly after about 10 minutes of editing. on my older macbook pro it would freeze playback rendering me incapable of moving the head in the timeline. I would still be able to apply filters to a clip drag in a new clip etc however i would be doing it blind and I would not have the ability to move to a different part of the timeline (like the beginning or end). I contacted one of the techs and they blamed the plugins. we removed them and it seemed to work. however it didn't. on the same project it would continue to freeze after about 10 minutes of editing not at any specific place in the timeline but it would always freeze eventually. I already knew that my macbook was getting old so I invested in a new IMac 27 inches I7 Processor 8GB of ram and 4GB of GPU ram. i launch the same project in adobe premiere on this new computer and i run into the same issue. I attempted to reinstall and that made it worse. now after i ran into the same issue i was not even able to force quit the program. I restarted the computer and tried to run the program again but i still have the same issue. what do i do? is there something that i can do beyond uninstalling to reset whatever damage the 3rd party plugins did? is there something wrong with the particular project that I am working on that is causing the crash?
I echo the opinions above. The PC usually needs a fresh ground up install but the Mac doesn't. Just delete off anything you don't want any longer and enjoy your new iMac.

I have a new iMac using Pages and Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. for mac. I'd like to transfer older ClarisWorks and AppleWorks files to my new computer. Can this be done?Additionally, Numbers can read/open spreadsheets. However, anything done in the drawing/painting part cannot be read by any application - you would have to export those (on the old machine) as a .jpg or pdf. You could then open them, but no longer edit or change the content.

So this is my second breand new iMac that I ordered direct from the apple Website - I got it about 5 days ago. They had me return the first one because it kept crashing. Now this one does too...
Here is the crash report. It has crashed 3 times today - I have not installed any software that did not come with it (except Simcity, but it was crashing before that).
I have repaired the disk permissions already.
Can anyone help? I really dont want to return this one too - I have wasted a lot of time setting this up.

First day w/ new iMac -- applications crashing
Today is my first day with a new flat screen iMac. I started out by transferring my files from my older Mac (Power PC), running 10.4.7.
After completing the transfer -- and downloading new versions of the assorted applications -- my new iMac has been crashing many applications all day long. Toast, for example. I've tried two burns tonight and both crashed during the final burn stage.
GoogleEarth is another. It won't even open on this new computer, crashing instantly. Internet Explorer (admitted, an old version), also crashed. PeerGuardian is another.
Why all these crashes? Did I do something wrong? Should I reinstall the master discs on this new drive, as opposed to continuing on with the transferred versions? Is it the jump up to 10.5.3?
Thanks...Migrating PowerPC applications to an Intel Mac can be unreliable. I'd recommend downloading the latest Intel versions of the applications you need and re-installing them. From a security perspective using IE is a bad idea and given that MS stopped releasing versions / supporting IE on Macs many years ago. Firefox 2 and Safari 3 are good browsers and Opera and Camino have many fans too.

Driver issue with Windows 8.1 on new iMac 2013
Just got a brand new iMac and am attempting to install Windows 8.1 on it. The Boot Camp Assistant kept timing out on the support software download so I downloaded Boot Camp 5.0.5033 from Apple support and put that on my external FAT drive.
I was able to get Windows installed, but when I attempted to run setup.exe off of my external drive, I got a "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model" error. I was able to work around this by running bootcamp.msi from a DOS prompt in administrator mode at which point the install seemed to go through successfully.
Despite that, I'm still getting no love on WiFI, bluetooth, audio, etc. I'm attempting to download again through Boot Camp Assistant on the hope that there's a later version for my machine that's not yet available for direct download but am not optimistic.
Any thoughts/ideas would be great appreciated. Note that I am running the latest everything on the Mac side (recent 10.8.5 Combo).
Thanks in advance.Actually, that link is exactly what got me in trouble. Use Boot Camp Assistant to get the drivers.
As of this writing, Boot Camp 5.0.5033 will not adequately set up your drivers on a new iMac with Windows 8.1.
The only way I was able to get the WiFi working was to use the drivers automatically downloaded by Boot Camp Assistant. Presmably this is a newer version than 5.0.5033 but I haven't been able to find it anywhere else for download.
I should also note that I was having some DirectX issues running graphics intensive software even after updating through Boot Camp Assistant. These were resolved by downloading the latest driver for my video card (GeForce 780M). There might be other issues that will require a manual driver update but I've yet to run into any more.
Best of luck. -
Yosemite & new iMac not seen using 5Gz wireless
I have a new iMac and an older macbook pro plus a number of other devices on my home network.
All my devices connect using 2.4GHz wireless except my iMac which uses 5 GHz wireless. Everything was working fine up until I upgraded to Yosemite OS X. Now all my devices on the 2.4 GHz wireless can see each other fine. But they can't see my iMac and my iMac can't see them. The error is "no route to host". The firewall on the iMac is off so it should work.
So it seems related to the fact that my iMac is on the different wireless frequency, as all the other devices are fine. I upgraded both my macbook and iMac to Yosemite so it is not Yosemite purely at fault. There seems to be a problem routing from my iMac to the other devices on the BT Hub.
I think it is a BT Hub 5, it's certainly very recent.
Any help?Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. It didn't work however. I reset the hub, and my devices so they all reset all their connection information.
To be clear,
I have the iMac - with newly installed OS X Yosemite, it connects to the hub fine and has internet connection fine through the hub. It is connected on 5 GHz wireless.
I have a macbook pro - with newly installed OS X Yosemite, it connects to the hub fine and has internet connection. It connects at 2.4 GHz wireless.
I have a bunch of other devices on the network that connect at 2.4 GHz wireless.
If I ping a device from my macbook it gets a reply and can see them fine. If I ping my iMac it times out, i.e. it can't see the iMac.
Likewise I can't ping any devices from my iMac.
This is a bit of a problem as I use my iMac as a home server for music and films.
It used to work fine when both my iMac and MBP were on Mavericks. It only started happening when I upgraded to Yosemite. Though Yosemite works fine on my MBP. -
New iMac (2013 27" Model)
Hi,
Currently I'm deciding if I should get a new iMac 27". I am using a 17" Macbook Pro (2010 17") and it's not handling what I use it for (Video Editing).
If you have a new iMac and use it for video editing, could you please leave a comment below and tell me what you think of it. I would really appreciate it!
ThanksThanks for both your responses.
I'm going to be upgrading the RAM for sure, because that does make a HUGE difference in speed. Thinking of fusion drive, not sure about it however. The upgraded video card would be great, but it's an extra $1000 that I don't have. Processor I have heard dosn't really make a difference because if RAM is upgraded it's just as good?
If I was to buy just the 27" iMac, would that do good for me for a while in video editing?
I would love something fast and have used a basic iMac with no upgrading and it worked pretty good.
Thanks -
Buying new IMac for IMovie use
I am purchasing a new IMac. What kind of memory do you recommend for using iMovie. If you recommend 1G, do you recommend buying one 1G, or 2 512s?
What kind of routine problems have been occurring with iMovie? With my five year old Mac I routinely had a problem with video and audio not synching and I know from reading posts that that was a problem for many people
IMAC Mac OS X (10.2.x)
IMAC Mac OS X (10.2.x)If you recommend 1G, do you recommend buying one 1G, or 2 512s?
That depends. Do you plan to install more RAM later? Then go for the single 1GB. Personally I find it doubtful to have more than 1GB of RAM, unless you HAVE TO run a lot of apps at the same time on a regular basis (such as making it your business).
As for the sync problem, it can be avoided by recording 16-bit audio.

Have new Imac that I'm setting up. Company is using DHCP to manage IP addresses. Mac is plugged into netgear hub along with a PC. Mac is getting an invalid IP address of 10.45.190.195. PC is working fine. I've powered the hub on and off. I've renewed th DHCP lease on the Mac many times but IP address always comes back as 10.45.190.195. I've plugged the network cable directly in the network port bypassing the hub. Same result.
Having the same issue when trying to connect via Wi-Fi,
Anyone experiencing this issue?I see what you are saying. When I lived in the dorms, I was set up in bridge mode because we had that type of modem. My question now is do I distribute a range of static IP's or share a public? Either of these settings give me errors where the starting and ending DHCP addresses conflict. I use 10.0.1.1 and 10.0.1.100 and this error no longer seems to persist, but then I am not able to connect to the internet and the amber light keeps flashing- along with my computer showing that I am still connected to the TM.
Thank you for your support so far.
