New iMac 24'' 3,06 GHz

I used to either ask question on Apple discussions or indeed sometime though rarely complain.
Today, I am simply thankful. It has been one day with my new iMac and it is awesome.
Just wanted to share some good news.

You're like a bright ray of sunshine! If you do need help in the future, you know where to come.
And congrats on your new iMac.

  • Brand New iMac 24" 2.8 GHz Intel 2 Core Extreme 500 GB Hard Drive Issues

Had a 2 week old iMac 20" 2.4 GHz 320 GB hard drive that I purchased from the Apple Store online on 12/09/07. Got delivered to me on 12/13/07. After 7 calls (on 7 different days) to Apple Care Support, my iMac could not get onto the internet network in my apartment.
Had Apple swap my unit and I got the top of the line model out there now, the iMac 24" 2.8 GHz Intel 2 Core Duo Extreme with 500 GB hard drive. Still, can't connect to the internet.
I've got Time Warner Cable as my internet service provider (High Speed Internet Access). I'm using a brand new Airport Extreme as my base station in the living room, and a brand new (all exchanged through AppleCare) Airport Express which I'm using to extend the network as a bridge.
My new iMac is in the study den in my apartment, and my MacBook Pro gets signal from anywhere in the apartment, but when I use the iMac, and click on my secure network using the WPA2 passcode that I set up, the iMac tries to connect, and says "Connection Time Out" and then "Connection Fail."
I've read posts throughout these forums saying that there are issues with the new aluminum iMacs that came out.
I'm running Leopard 10.5.1 on both machines right now, and even with the swap from the 20" to the 24", I still have the same problems.
Gonna have to make another angry call to AppleCare Support tonight to see if I can get this thing resolved.
Anyone else have any other suggestions to getting this fixed for my iMac?
What about using a different router besides the Apple Extreme or Airport Express? Any ideas?
    Thanks

ok try this with your MAC BOOK PRO
Go to your system preferences go to the apple icon and then hit system preferences. From section where it says Internet & Network, there you should see an icon folder that says Sharing, In tiger its like that I don´t know how it is in Leopard, but if it is the same we are in luck. Ok Go to sharing and in sharing go to airport option in airport option make a 128 bit wep key and make a sick *** long password hit ok. Now go check the box that says Airport and then hit the start button to start using your MAC BOOK PRO as a router. Now go to your sick *** I wish I had your 24 inch Imac and here I am stuck with my old Imac early intel, and hit the airport extreme icon oh by the way you should also enable your MAC BOOK PRO airport extreme which now it is a WIFI Router trasmitter I Hope I was of any help

  • Final cut studio 2 on new imac 24'' 2.8 GHz

    Hi,
I am, in the near future, starting wedding videography and my idea is to purchase Final Cut Studio 2 and the new imac 24" 2.8GHz with 4gb RAM and the 1TB hard drive.
My question is this, will this computer be powerful enough for me to run the Final Cut Studio "smoothly" while editing HD quality video?
My business will be based on this so i want to be sure!!!
    Thanks in advance!

I am, in the near future, < </div>
How do you communicate with us then?
Do not start your business based on a computer and a piece of software. Research the business first, then decide what you will need and then figure out a way to finance it. When you get down to starting your event photography business, the computer is going to be the smallest captial investment you make; do not scrimp on it.
The iMac will only satisfy your needs for a few months but it will do the job. You must also have printers, scanners, backup routines and external drives. Umm, insurance.

  • Difference between new iMac processors 3.5 GHz Quad i5 vs 4.0 GHz Quad i7

The only major software I use is Aperture and Photo Elements.
I have Bento about 7000 entries.
I am retired, no business app.
I am one of those that believe get the top of the line it will last an extra year or 2 of viable usage .
    My current iMac is:
    2008, 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo with 4GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS 512 MB
    Any thoughts ?
    Thanks
    Greg

The Flash drive will provide faster access to data, but does not directly affect the processor.
If you don't need the extra space, then go for the smaller Flash drive to keep data access times at their peek.
As to the difference between an i5 and i7 obviously the processor speed is one. But buffer, and cache and other specs that will aid in performance may be different.
If money is no object go top of the line.  Otherwise the i5 should work fine for what you want to do, and will be a marked improvement over what you have now.

  • New iMac, 24" 3.06 Ghz - WIRED Connection Problem

Hi All - This machine has been in service 2 weeks. About a week ago, the connectivity to the internet has become faulty. I can successfully connect to a web site, but after about a minute or so, it will drop. Using the same browsers and MacOS on a MacBook Pro, there are no problems. I have disabled and made inactive, all network options except for ethernet. Still to no avail...
    Suggestions are most welcome.
I saw a suggestion on a post concerning junky wireless connections to re-install the os to an earlier version, and may reluctantly try that.
    This is a true disappointment.

The only way we will see this problem resolved is for everyone having the problem to call Apple Care and get this problem elevated. With all the posts on this forum concerning this issue I was surprised that the techs at Apple I spoke with were not aware of any widespread wifi issues with the iMac.

  • 1st Generation iPod (5GB) not working with new iMac

    Hi,
i have the Problem, that my 1st generation iPod is not detected by my new imac (20'' 2,4 Ghz). When i plug in the firewire cable, nothing happens. DiscUtility sees no disc at all.
But when i plug in the iPod "behind" another Firewire disc (acting as a fw-hub), the iPod ist detected within a second, and everything works fine.
I just wanted to know if someone else is having this Problem, or if someone else has a working iPod 1.Gen on the new iMac.
    Thanks
    Joerg

    Hi JvdL,
I am one with a 1st gen iPod (Windows, 10GB).
But I have no problems with it and I also don't have a last gen. iMac.
However, in the iPod Forum http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=151 and in the iTunes Forum http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=149&start=0#threads there are quite some threads with similar problems.
    Sorry

  • Help! App reg/licenses missing after migrating to new iMac.

I just finished migrating to a new iMac (2007 2.16 GHz White Lucite -> 2008 2.83 GHz Aluminum). I used the Migration Assistant after starting up the new iMac to transfer everything. I chose "Transfer from another Mac" (which was actually my SuperDuper! backup on an external FW RAID). Everything seemed fine (I even rebooted first). I logged into my Admin account first and it looked the same. But after logging into my User account and trying to open my apps they were starting as though it was their first time, asking for SN and registration info. Safari has reverted from v4 to v3, Aperture wants SN, and iTunes can't open my library because it was created with a newer version, yet Mail worked fine. What happened? And more importantly, what should I do? I don't want to re-enter SN's and info and re-register my apps.
I have both SuperDuper! and Time Machine backups. I was thinking to boot from SuperDuper! as Start Up Disk and then do a complete restore, or if necessary erase the Mac HD first (which I'd prefer not to). Will restoring the new iMac HD with the SD! backup from the older iMac cause any issues?
    Addendum:
I just noticed in the System Profiler that OS X is 10.5.4, not 10.5.6. Why didn't it transfer/update the OS as well? Isn't it suppose to transfer everything? Why would I want to downgrade my OS X with a new iMac?

I ended up using OS X disc to 'Restore System From Backup' from Time Machine backup. That returned the system back to almost an exact state as before, but a few apps were still asking for SN, and Mail wouldn't open because it had to reload messages. Strangely though, Aperture won't accept the SN now, whereas it did after the first migration transfer.
Migrating to a new Mac is not as simple and painless as made out to be. At least not clearly enough. It was an all-dayer/nighter full of stress and frustration. Not something I expect from Mac, but a PC.
Another after-effect from this is Time Machine doesn't see its backup now, even though it's there on the external drive. It showed backup failed and then after I reset/highlighted the correct drive it started backing up under a new folder/computer name. I deleted that but can't figure out how to make TM see the existing BU. This has been a lot of fun.

  • Brand New iMac 24"

I'm thinking about upgrading to a new iMac - 24", 3.06 ghz, 4 gig ram and so on.
Are there any issues with those new machines running Logic Pro 8?
    Thanks for any responses.
    Paul

I just bought the same machine two weeks ago. Alot of money and I considered bringing it back, thinking that I didn't know if I could justify it. Then , two nights ago, sat down to really test it in Logic. Threw down 2 Sculpture tracks, four heavy-laden sample tracks in EXS 24 and an ultrabeat composition, added Space Designer to 3 of the tracks, a myriad of inserts to every track, and a few to the master output. Never went about 55% in Activity Monitor. I did get a hiccup on memory due to other programs running on top of Logic, but that's because it only came with 2 Gig, and I am still waiting for my 4 Gig Kit from Crucial (hopefully tomorrow). By the way, don't buy RAM from Apple. They wanted $150 for the extra 2 Gigs. Crucial has it for $56. And then I'll have the original 2 Gigs (although I can't imagine what I'll do with them).
I am satisfied that athis was a good purchase, and a beautiful screen to boot.
Using Focusrite Sapphire FireWire Audio box with it (for its simplicity of two audio ins, 8 outs, and a single midi in and out all in one box.

  • IMac G5 1.8 Ghz recognizes files improperly on network

    Hello,
Our "new" iMac G5 (1.8 Ghz) sees all InDesign documents on our network server as Unix Executable files. I can open the documents through InDesign CS2, but the finder won't see them for what they really are.
Anyone know how I can fix this? It's urgent...
    thanks,
    erik

Erik, we're finding that Quark 6.5 documents on our Apple network behave poorly or not at all from our new IMAC Intel G5, but when we copy to the local hard drive they work fine.
It also appears that at least Quark is making a really sloppy connection to the network when attempting to get image is chosen, not sure what it's doing but it is looking interminably at all graphic files on the network and running the processor of the network server up to 80% capacity!
Wondered if you have no problem opening files locally but tons of trouble opening over a network. We're beginning to wonder if there's a network issue afoot.

  • New iMac - iMovie '09 won't open

I just got my new iMac (24" 2.66 GHz) and restored my files/apps/settings from my Time Machine backup (previous computer: iMac G5 1.6 GHz). Everything has been going fine, including all the iLife apps, except for iMovie. When I try to open it, the icon bounces for a while, but it never opens. In fact, the little glowing dot does not appear under the iMovie icon afterwards, but when I hold the mouse button down over the icon I get an "Application Not Responding" label.
I've tried all the simple stuff: restarting, reinstalling from the restore DVD & subsequent software updates, repaired permissions. I've also checked the console and as far as I can tell no messages are being logged there from iMovie.
Any ideas? My next step is to lug it to an Apple store, but I'd prefer not to do that if I don't have to. Thanks for any advice you can provide!

I found my answer - it was a 3rd party Quicktime plugin. Thanks iphonejunkie!

  • What's the best way to transfer files from dead MDD G4 PowerMac to new iMac desktop?

My Mirrored Drive Door 1 ghz G4 Power Mac recently stopped powering on. I have just purchased a new iMac with 2.5 ghz intel core i5. What is the best way for me to transfer the files to the new machine?
Someone on another thread recommended buying a converter cable like this one: http://www.newertech.com/products/usb2_adaptv2.php
Will I need to use transfer software too? I'd like to bring my playlists along to the new machine but don't need any of the software.
    Thanks!

That will work. You could also remove the hard drive from the MDD and put it in an external enclosure so you would have it for backup.
You can use the utility, Carbon Copy Cloner, to transfer files - MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.

  • Dvd playback poor quality on new iMac

Upgraded from 2006 iMac 24" to a new iMac 27" / 2.9 Ghz, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M Graphics (512MB), with external Superdrive. My old iMac played standard DVDs with very good quality at full screen. The new iMac plays standard (commercial) DVDs but the video quality is poor, inferior to the old model. Is this due to the graphics card, or just a reality with the Retina display on this iMac, or some other reason?  Do I need to purchase a Blu-ray player and third party playback software to get better resolution?
    Thanks.

Yes regular DVD's were not intended to display in higher resolutions. You can try decreasing the screen resolution while watching these movies then changing it back. Or go with Blu-Ray and 3rd Party Software.

  • New iMac and can't send email

I just bought a new iMac tonight. I have Charter ISP. I can still receive email but cannot send any. Called Charter who said they could only tell me the server setup and the rest is on Apple. They told me to use mail.charter.net or smtp.charter.net. I have done both and neither work. I received an email when I sent it to myself when logged on to the Charter server so I know email is coming my way... Mail is just not picking it up. Can anyone help me, please?!?

    Hi there,
I had the same problem since every set up I made on the older iMac ( white ) it was working fine. On the new iMac 24" 3.06 ghz I could receive e-mails but not send although my settings were fine.
What you need to do, at least it helped for me is when you go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and choose edit server list.
After this go to Advanced and make sure Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is turned off. Authentication is none.
Try sending a mail now and it should work.

  • Will AppleWorks work with my new iMac?

    Hi,
I just purchased a new iMac / 24", 2.8 GHz, CD2, and I was just wondering if my old AppleWorks disc 6.2.9. will work with the new iMac. I am currently running 10.5.6.
Or should I use the new iWork instead?
Any information anyone could provide would be most helpful.
    John

    Hi John,
AppleWorks will run well on your new iMac.
Whether you should switch completely to iWork depends on what parts of AppleWorks you use.
iWork's biggest deficiency (as noted in Yvan's signature line) is the lack of a database application. If you use AppleWorks's database module, there is nothing in iWork that will replaces it (although iWork '09 does have some list management and merge capabilities). You may also find some difficulty transfering Paint and Draw documents.
Other than that, the change should be pretty easy. iWork applications will open AppleWorks 6 Word Processing (Pages), Spreadsheet (Numbers) and Presentation (Keynote) documents. They will not open AW Draw, Paint or Database documents. Nor will they open any AW documents made with AW 5 or any version of ClarisWorks.
    Best route:
-Install AW 6.2.9 on the iMac using the installer disk or by moving the whole AppleWorks 6 folder from one machine to the other. Remember to remove AW from the old machine to stay within the single user terms of your AW licence.
-Download and install the 30 day trial of iWork '09.
-Spend some time over the next 30 days getting familiar with the iWork applications, then make your decision.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • HT4914 I want to transfer my entire iTunes "folder" from a newer iMac 3.06 GHz Core 2 machine running iTunes 10.7 to an older iMac running OSx 10.5.8. How best to do this and keep all my data, tags and covers in tact?

Firstly, time to get rid of the 2 x 512MB FBDIMMs in there, they add more heat and use more watts then they add to the system. If you need more, and 4 or 8 DIMMs is ideal, Amazon has 2x2GB sets $22 - about 1/50th what I paid for 1GB new.
    Buy a 250GB Samsung EVO SSD $129
Pick up Carbon Copy Cloner http://www.bombich.com to clone the system to the SSD
A sled adapter for the SSD from Icy Dock $14 Amazon.com
7-8 years overdue for new system drive! amazed it lasted this long. An SSD plus some WD Black 2TB drives or larger should do the trick.
you can also put the SSD in the lower optical drive bay and use one of the two ODD "spare" SATA ports for the SSD - an SSD is the best way to improve the performance of our old Mac Pro 2006-7 models.
When you downloaded the Lion installer that was when to create a flash type installer with Lion DiskMaker.
If you have put in a new-ish graphic card then OS X 10.6.0 may not support it.
