New iMac 27 experiencing screen burn

I noticed when using Adobe CS6 Creative Suite that I am having "screen burn" where I can clearly see whatever I was working on still visible after I close the file or switch to a new one. The default on CS6 seemed to switch to a "gray" work area instead of the "white" work area that i have been so use to - if this switch did not occur I probably would not of noticed it to much. But now that I see it, it's hard to not see it all the time.
My fear is that this is going to get worse, and I have heard of this issue occuring. Anybody have experience with this? Should I be concerned of this being a continuing and damaging issue in the long run?

You have 90 days of AppleCare, why haven't  you called AppleCare and posted your concern?

    Hi Brett L,
thank you for the coordination of this helpful thread. Are you Apple? If yes, please allow me to ask you three questions:
    1) The Display Firmware stopped for over 90% the flicker issue, but what has this Firmware changed exactly?
    2) Is Apple preparing a fix for the yellow tinge?
    3) When will it be save to buy a new iMac?
    Thank you for your efforts.
    Hello Citrus.
    Excellent questions.
I hope that Apple will authorize Brett L. to provide us with some clear, honest answers to them . . . although, as I pointed out before, it would seem by the latest messages that have been posted in this thread -- that is, the *original thread* -- that through their actions, Apple has already provided us with their answer -- and solution -- to the yellow tinge issue; and that is the replacement of the LCD panel.
As to what the most recent display firmware update did, I am doubtful that Apple will allow Brett to reveal that kind of information, but we can be hopeful.
As far as when it will be safe to purchase a new iMac, I seriously doubt that Apple will say anything which would suggest that it is not safe to purchase a new iMac now. What company is going to say "Don't buy our product now. It's not safe"?
For my part, I have now contacted Apple regarding the issues that I am having with my 27" iMac, and I will wait over the next few days to see how things play out. Based on the testimonies of others here, I don't expect Apple to disappoint. I have the confidence that they want to leave me a satisfied customer who will continue to purchase their products in the future.

  • New iMac 27inch screen flickering/tearing/shutoff

I have been experiencing some problems with the all new iMac 27inch display.
At non-fixed intervals i will get one of the following:
Screen distortion/flicker somewhere random in the screen (feels like it is more in the lower part) that looks like a horizontal bar of about 2-3inches just popping in and out of the screen.
Screen will go completely black for a second and then come back on. Sometimes 2-3 times in a row.
Somebody else already made some video-clips about these problems, I am experiencing exactly the same behaviour.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjOxlxVz5Os
    http://gallery.me.com/larzy#100025
Just to not that in the course of writing this post my screen has flickered 13 times and has gone black 2 times.

I received my 27" iMac three days ago and ever since i got it out of the box and turned it on it has done the same as the video shows.
Last night i watched a 30 min programme on BBC iPlayer and the 2-3 inch white lines kept popping up every few seconds horizontally across the screen. The screen also went black momenterally on 6 occasions.
I cannot believe after three days that this problem is so bad. I spome with Apple this morning on the Apple Care line and they told me to:
    1. Shut down and take out power cord for 20 secs then turn back on.
    2. Shut Down and then hold down "D" when turning back on which performed a hardware test...
    Both had no effect.
Luckilly i am still within the 14 days of recieving my iMac and they are sending out a replacement but i am worried that this machine will have the same problems...
Is anyone happy with theres and is anyone not experiencing this problem... There seems to be a big issue here???

  • A message to everyone experiencing screen burns on their Macbook Pro's with Retina Display

I went to the apple store to exchange my old mac book pro with retin a display for a new 1 because I had the screen burn problems. After they went over my computer they noticed that I had a logical board problem. You guys might not have the same problem but the way that they figured it out is when they tried to migrate my information because with a thunderbolt port it would've taken 42 hours to transfer my 130 gigabytes of storage. I wanted to make this thread to inform you guys about this problem and maybe get yours check to see if you have it. I'm sorry about this message I didn't have enough time so I did it on my phone speak to text. Leave a reply if you guys have the same problem or have any concerns. thanks.

    WisdomTooth asked:
What should I do? has this issue been resolved or should I wait?
Remember that we only hear of the problems here (and, sometimes, the solutions). I doubt if the problems are pandemic or we would be reading a lot more about them at the various Mac websites. Faulty computers are going to come out of the production line, no doubt about it. But most of the problems I've seen posted here for the MBP-R's have been remedied or some will be remedied with the release of Mountain Lion.
Since ML will surely be released in the next couple of weeks, I'd wait and see, for instance, if it addresses some of the video/USB problems that have been reported here. Some with developer seed copies of ML say that it 'fixes' the USB 3.0 problems and some of the video problems (obviously not ghosting, distorted video, etc.).
So I'd just wait a couple of weeks, see if some of the issues are cleared up, then order the Retina display if that's what you want. Every other problem I've read of seemed to have been fixed by replacing the computer, logic board, etc. That's just normal.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Really hard to beleive but a new imac won't burn home movies on DVD?

Hi bite the bullet and bought a brand new imac (paid two times the price of a really nice PC) in hopes of owning a computer that would solve all my PC issues. Now that I have it at home I down loaded my family snow board trip from my camera and found out that it won't burn it to a DVD. What? Called tech support and yes it is true imac won't burn a DVD unless you buy ilife $49 and install it. Even the cheapest PC will burn a DVD this is really disappionting.I did see some free third party software and thought about trying it but I really hate to risk adding unauthorized software to my brand new computer. Is there hope on the way in the form of free update or is this what I get? Other than this I have enjoyed using it but this is really a major deficiency and a real disappointment.

I purchased the iLife 11 retail disk (I've seen it for as little as $25 at Amazon) because, in my opinion, there is no equivalent for iDVD's capabilities of adding pzazz to customizable menus/themes - taking your efforts from amateur to professional looking presentations.
And, it is somewhat disappointing since iMovie still has a link to send your movie to iDVD and the idea of being able to produce movies including making DVDs is now being "replaced" by trying to get you to post all your content online (in the cloud). For anyone concerned with their privacy, that is not an option; neither is it for people who may not even have a computer, but would love to be able to see the event they participated in on their TV.
I'd buy the iLife suite and also send feedback to Apple:

  • IMac 24" Screen Burn-in When Using iDVD

I had a 1.5 hr long video that burned using iDVD. I found that if I use iDVD the screensaver will NEVER turn on. So, when the iDVD finished I found that a bit of screen burn-in is stuck on my screen.
Seeing that this is an LCD I thought it was true that LCD's couldn't have burn-in like CRT's could but I'm guessing I'm mistaken on that.
Does anyone know how I can fix the burn-in and also how to get the screensaver to work with iDVD so it doesn't happen again?
    - Joshua

Bringing this up from the almost dead....
...to setup a Hot Corner to sleep the display go to: System Preference > Expose & Spaces > Expose and in the Active Screen Corners section setup any corner you would like to sleep the display. Then any time you leave with a job running, just park the mouse pointer in that corner and sleep the display until you return.
That's fine and dandy for most things, but does not address the issue brought up by the initial poster. When running iDVD the screen will not blank nor will the screen saver start. If you have a hot corner to blank the screen and you move your mouse to the hot corner the screen will stay blanked for maybe 10 seconds before it unblanks. This is true using the iDVD that came with iLife '08. I haven't tried any others.
It seems that iDVD overrides the users sleep/blanking preference. That makes sense if you are watching something. It makes no sense during the 3+ hours it takes me to render a DVD disk image (I'm not burning a disk at this time).

  • 2009 iMac 27in - screen burn visible (Pics)

Hey everyone, I have an i5 that I bought back in 2009 that has started developing screen issues. There seems to be a ripple on the right side of my screen internally, that is visible only on flat colored backgrounds. I use my iMac for a couple of hours a day, put it to sleep at night, and have been using my Belfan adapter to use a display for my 360 as well.
Has anyone had any similar issues? I think my warranty has run out...should I haul it to the Apple store for help? Thanks in advance.

unless you have AppleCare your warranty is long gone.  You need to bring that to Apple to have it fixed (new screen).  I have no idea how much it costs.

  • New imac - same CD burner problem?

just migrated from an older intel imac to a brand new 27" i7. The old one didn't recognize blank CD's. The new one doesn't either, similar to many, many threads on this forum. I can burn audio files from itunes, but cannot burn from finder. it reads all manner of cd's and dvds - as long as there is content on them. tried PRAM reset, all apps are latest update. Since one of the reasons for getting the new machine is to have a working CD-burner, this is obviously disappointing.

    Ok thanks...found LaunchDaemons...but no com.wddvr.plist
    Only contains 2 items:
    file://localhost/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.adobe.SwitchBoard.plist
    file://localhost/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.third_party_32b_kext_logger.pli st
    Does that seem OK?
Any other clues as to why my cd burns are not working?
The fault is intermittant...seems to burn ok then won't verify and I get a message that it hasn't written the files and I should try with another blank disc.
Usually works on the second disc. I've tried many different manufacturers and all the same.
Also it seems to be more reliable with dvds.
    I'm on a iMAC 10.6.8 Intel 3.6GHZ Core i5...Only just over a year old
    Thanks again

  • New iMac 27" screen issues!!!

Does anyone experiences this situation on their iMac with new "Screen LaminationProcess" ?
After leaving a white image still for couple minutes on the screen (Example: Web Site), a sort of halo remains.... This is noticeable when I working on applications with gray GUI's like Adobe Photoshop, Aperture, iMovie... pretty much any application.
I am kind of upset because the computer is only 1 month old and I just noticed this problem. Besides, there are some awkward brighter spots on the edges of the display… it seems like there is a leak of light from the inside out. That cannot be shown on the screen shots but they are bery anoying when watching a movie... ;(

You really should call AppleCare first.  Let them be aware of the problems you are having.  You will get a case number.  Keep it in a safe place.  It just may come in handy if the exact same problems crop up in the future after your warranty runs out.

  • IMac G5 Screen Burn In??

    Hey Folks...
I've had my iMac G5 20" for about 5 months now. It's used A LOT for my business; it's easily on 5-6 hours a day or more. Lately, I've noticed that whenever the screen is a solid color (blue or white), after-images/shadows of the desktop icons are still visible. Not the desktop wallpaper -- the icon images. There's also a solid band of shadow across the top; I've also noticed white "sparkles" around the center of the desktop when I close windows to go back to the desktop.
Having paid over $2000 for this system, I'm more than a bit concerned. Is this a known issue with the iMacs, and how much is Apple going to charge me to call their tech line to get the monitor fixed? Or is there a way I can fix it without needing to send it back?

    Hello.
Sorry for replying after such a long time, but I lost track of this thread.
As for the issue "not existing" and me "double-checking my info" I kindly request you to read up on Apple's official statement on the issue on http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextension
Good luck in getting the problem resolved.
    Kind regards,
    E Leerentveld.

  • Cleaning my new iMac intel screen

    Gday all,
Got my first mac in 22yrs and have already seen marks on the screen...
Does anyone have any advice on the best way to clean my fancy new computer??
    Soapy water??
    alcohol???
    Any advice would be great..

I'd recommend iKlear for your screen. You can order or pick it up from the Apple Store.

  • Brightness on new iMac 24" screen keeps reseting to full brightness

When I reset the brightness in system pref it reverts to full bright on restart. tried resetting the PRAM but it did't help. Any ideas?

While people here will surely help, you may do better posting this on the Intel iMac board, since this is the iMac G5 board.

  • Writing for iMac wide screen

This may be a benign or silly question, but I found what I have written, displays fine in IE,Safari and Firefox.  However, when shown on the new iMac wide screens, it is all shown to the left of the screen.  Understandably, I guess, because my  pages are for a smaller width page.
Is there something I should read/learn about writing for the wider screen.  I have had problems with centering a div and a table using the code widely available, setting the margin-left and margin-right to auto, after defining the width of the div, table.

mhollis55:  Many thanks.  Must be my uncle's iMac....:-))  Did you have a look any further?  Say, for example, the 'Venues', 'Bars and Pubs', 'Portobello Gold'. Does it look fine?
I wrote for the left image to overlay the centre image on mouseover, just to test it for 'looks' .  I think it is bit confusing and will amend to onclick.
However, since I posted last, I have another little problem.  As all the images on the left and right of all the pages are consistent in size and position, I have  done a css for the images.  Locally, they all look ok in IE, Safari and Fireforx.  However, when uploaded, all of the images (except the home page) are at  top left of the screen.  What have I done wrong?  The css are 'right_image_1, 'right_image_2'  etc....
Update: 22. GMT:  It seems that it all works OK now.  Have changed the left image to onclick from onmouseover.
