New iMac and can't send email

I just bought a new iMac tonight. I have Charter ISP. I can still receive email but cannot send any. Called Charter who said they could only tell me the server setup and the rest is on Apple. They told me to use mail.charter.net or smtp.charter.net. I have done both and neither work. I received an email when I sent it to myself when logged on to the Charter server so I know email is coming my way... Mail is just not picking it up. Can anyone help me, please?!?

Hi there,
I had the same problem since every set up I made on the older iMac ( white ) it was working fine. On the new iMac 24" 3.06 ghz I could receive e-mails but not send although my settings were fine.
What you need to do, at least it helped for me is when you go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and choose edit server list.
After this go to Advanced and make sure Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is turned off. Authentication is none.
Try sending a mail now and it should work.

    Hi mwatts18,
As a preliminary troubleshooting step, you should reference the information in the following article:

I would especially suggest that you delete the account and re-add it, making sure that you are entering the correct password when you add the account. Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

    Welcome James!
For no cost, you can try the open-source productivy suite LibreOffice. I don't have any AW files here to test but there are reliable reports that LibreOffice can open at least some AW files:

Please turn off your caps lock key. All-caps text is harder for us to read and is considered "shouting" or "anger" by most internet text conventions. Thanks!

Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when opening iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (or C:\Username\Music\iTunes\ in Vista). Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

  • TS1367 I have a new iMac and can't get it to turn? Can't find a power button?

Have new iMac and it won't start up. Can't find a power button?

Try to perform a HARD RESET on the printer first. Unplug the power cord from the printer, and leave it out for 30 seconds. Plug it back in, see if it aligns and finishes the job.
After alignment, try to print a test page from the printer or make a copy. This job is to make sure that the HARDWARE of the printer is working correctly.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

On your BlackBerry device, go to:
    1. Options > Advanced > Host Routing Table > Menu > Register.
    2. Resend your service books from your carrier BIS site:
    From your handheld device:   http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402
Go to the Personal Email Set Up icon and log in. Then under Help!, select Service Books, then select Send service Books.
    From your desktop PC:  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
North American Carriers - scroll down to select your carrier
WorldWide Carriers - Find your carrier on the list
    3. With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot. This reboot, even if you have already done this, is often needed to install the service books.
Finally, after all that, go to Options > Advanced > Default Services, and set your default email service.

  • TS3899 I have exceeded my sending capacity and can no send email. How do I resolve this?

I Have exceeded my sending capacity in my ipad2 and can no longer send emails. Does anyone know how to fix this?

If you are referring to having a message quantity sending cap imposed on your email account by your provider, will have to take it up with them. The iPad is wholly innocent of your presumed excessive verbosity.
Might be worth checking that you have not exceeded the STORAGE capacity afforded to you by the email provider: in most cases, the mail you send gets copied in a Sent folder as well. If you are out of room, an error will spring up every time you attempt to send.
Same can be construed if the email is set up as POP and you've overflowed the iPad's storage capacity. In this case, it is up to you to visit all the folders and purge the excess manually.

  • A friends husband has a new phone and can't send messages to his wife's old phone. Checked all settings under message

What's the problem if a  new iPhone can't send texts to an old iPhone?  All settings are correct under messages.

    Hi staceyh94,
    Welcome to the forum!
Message sending can be interrupted by weak signal in your area. Also avoid touching the antenna area while trying to send a message. Contact with antennas (e.g. casings with magnets) affects the communication quality and may reduce battery life due to higher power level during operation. The antenna is located at the lower portion on the back of your phone.
You can also try to reset the phone by Settings> about> reset my phone. Note that resetting will delete all the data on your phone and will set to the "out of the box" state. But you can share your important photos to Skydrive for safe keeping. Contacts are normally saved on you Microsoft account.
Please report back if this helps.
    Best regards,
    Ricky07

  • New iMac and can't do back-up to Time Capsule

New iMac.  I have tried four times to back up the machine to a Time Capsule.  The TC had worked fine backing up my old iMac that was running Lion.  Before each back-up attempt, I erased the TC via Airport Utility; the first two attempts I used Quick Erase; for the last two attempts I did a more extensive erase that wrote zeroes across the entire TC hard drive.  All software on the new iMac had been fully up-dated.
Each back-up attempt seemed to be progressing normally for over 6 hours.  But, when Time Machine reported that about 388 gigs of the 412 gigs on the new iMac's hard drive had been copied to the TC (and the progress bar showing about 2-3 millimeters remaining), the back-up seemed to falter.  First, as Time Machine listed the increasing amount stored on the TC, it also showed a commensurate increase in the size of the source hard drive (my iMac), so it appeared to be making no progress.  When the Time Machine listed that the TC's had copied 412 gigs (i.e., the actual size of the data on the iMac's hard drive) (now listed as 412 gigs out of 465 gigs), the machine crashed and re-booted itself.
I believe I have followed the procedures properly.  I have read several documents, including the excellent  one by Pondini, but I have not seen any solutions to what I am experiencing.
    Please help.

Is the MBA using wireless for backup?
    Is it running Mavericks?
Mavericks has not been great for TM or TC reliability. It seems to have a lot of bugs particularly in losing the backup location such as you have found.
Apple made some big changes in Mavericks.. not all of them good. One is to use SMB in preference to AFP for networking.. Since TM is a highly Apple type protocol.. and has always worked better on TC than all the other NAS that require SMB, it is suggestive that perhaps this is a basic bug.
Anyhow.. do a full reset of Time Machine.
    See A4 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Do a full factory reset of the TC.
    Factory reset Gen 5
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly then release.
Redo the setup of the TC with all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
See C9 if you want to know why.
Manually mount the TC hard disk in finder.
Use Go, Connect to server in the top menu.
AFP://TCname (now that you have fixed it up it will work.. names with spaces will not work).
When you are asked for password it is public unless you changed it. Save it in your keychain.
    See how it goes now.

  • I have a brand new iMac and can't get youtube site to open.

We just purchased a new 27" iMac.  There are seven other computers on the network (Macs and PC) and all others can load the web page.  When I type in the URL with either Safari or Chrome no page ever appears.  All other web sites load no problem.  Any suggestions?

OS X does not come with Flash pre-installed. Navigate to Adobe's website to download and install Flash and then re-try.

  • I can't access or send email through Thunderbird any longer (over a month) though I have checked settings and can access/send email via webmail and other device

My cable provider changed (buy out or something) about a year ago but left my email address alone.
Confirmed with the current carrier that my incoming/outgoing settings are correct and my email address doesn't need to be migrated.
When I click "Get Mail," nothing happens: no error message. It has been like this for a month.
I can check webmail, but it doesn't have my older emails or folders. I would love to get back on and spit everything out of Thunderbird. I did an internet search (including this forum) but haven't found anything useful.
    Thanks for any help.

  • I purchased a new iMac and can't download Pages update. The message said that it was purchased with another Apple Id or by different user.

Update Unavailable with This Apple ID. This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

Perform the following, stopping with the first one which works:
    1. Open the Mac App Store's Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept it and the other iWork/iLife applications into your Apple ID, do so.
    2. Move them out of the Applications folder(they may need to be put into the Trash temporarily), and then see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If you're asked to buy them, see #3.
    3. Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
    4. Buy them.

  • Can't send email; no send button

I just got a new iMac and tried to send an email for the first time. I clicked New Message and could type a message but can't send it. No send button. By the same token, I can receive mail and reply to them because when I hit Reply I have a send button on that. What gives?

No Send button or a greyed-out, non-clickable Send button? And if you select menu item Message is there a Send item in the menu list? If it is there, can you click it?
(Note that send is not active until you have entered a recipient)
