New iMac and iDVD just wont work!

All,
Just got a new iMac and iDVD just wont work, from creating a new project, or opening an old one, or trying to share from iMovie (HD)
If I try to do anything nothing seems to happen and when I close the program a window does appear and from there it just freezes.
Have deleted and reinstalled iDVD, repaired permissions, all up to date in my on software updates...any ideas?

*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD/Themes/ zzzzzzzzzz
or
Macintosh HD/Users/Your log-in//Library/Application Support/iDVD/Installed Themes/ zzzzzzzzzz
• Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
iDVD updated ?
Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
No of Colors - must be set to millions
EdinSF writes that, The 10.6.3 update with an Open GL fix seems to have taken care of the problem.

Well, turbo.264 is indeed very nice to have - even for converting full-sized movies. (Nevertheless, TechRadar's latest roundup (see http://www.techradar.com/news/software/applications/6-of-the-best-video-converte rs-for-mac-1074303 ; also linked from another roundup at http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/benchmark-excellent-multimedia-converter-handb rake-vs-commercial-apps ) has shown it's still worse than HandBrake in most respects.)
All H.264 files (assuming they are H.264 level 4.1 or lower) are compatible with the built-in Videos app.

It entirely depends on your needs. The top players (AVPlayerHD / ProPlayer, It's Playing, GoodPlayer) all have different strengths and weaknesses. 5 plus years ago my wife had the only Apple ID and as a family we all used her Itunes account to buy and listen to music. A couple years later, I (husband) bought my first iPhone - the only iDevice in the household. When I set that iphone up, I used the wife's apple ID as I wanted access to all of the itunes music we had as a family. So now years later, all of my Apps etc have been purchased via the Wife's Apple ID. To make matters worse for my situation, my 10 yr old daughter got an iTouch for Christmas and i decided to use my actual (husband) Apple ID as daughter is a minor and I felt I could manage her iTouch Apps content that way. We have just recently bought our first iMac and I had yet to understand or get to work the iCloud or the Home Sharing of iTunes. To make matters worse, I have never synched my 3G iphone because of the whole Apple ID issue. I should also mention that the primary 'authorized' computer for my wife's itunes account is an old PC that we almost never use anymore as it runs soooo slow. So I am left to wonder how to go about making the transition to get the old PC 'deauthorized' after I somehow transfer all itunes files from the old PC to the new iMac. I now have the new iPhone5 and i REALLY want to get to the point where i have my iphone on my apple id and my wife has her apple id (no iphone for her yet - probably coming soon though). On the new iMac i have created a login for me and one for my wife. I was able to login to itunes on her imac login and i was able to set up iCloud. it works! - but now my calendar, contacts, photos, etc are on her profile login of the iMac! HELP me PLEASE!!

Your Apple ID should not be causing problems with your browser. If you describe the problems you are having we might be able to help with those.

Brand New iMac and wired keyboard not working

I just bought a new iMac.The wired keyboard seems to work, the mouse is plugged into the keyboard and that works, and I can, somewhat make changes to the volume and other small changes. The ESC key works (I can turn off VoiceOver)but... I can not even get the computer up and going. I can not put in my name or other registration information.
Any ideas if the keyboard has some kind of other settings that I need to turn off. There is no software or anything else in the Mac that I know of. It is brand new and just arrived today.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm so sorry. I know this a bummer. But better to take it back. When you take it in, if they boot it and get it to work, make sure and shut down the iMac, wait about ten seconds and press the power button. Make sure it boots to the Desktop and that your keyboard functions as it should. Just make absolutely sure it works before you bring it back home. In fact, since you could not get through the registration process, perhaps they will go through that with you since had problems with it. Something isn't communicating between the iMac and the keyboard. Could be the USB ports, software/hardware ... hopefully they'll repair it to your satisfaction or replace it.

Changing to a new iMac and Aperture serial not working

Hi,
I have changed from an old imac to a new imac27. I copy all conifuration from old to new, and all is working firna, but Aperture not. Even the app is copied, when trying to run is asking me for serial number. I enter the last I have and is complaning saying I have entered an upgrade serial number and request for original.
The problem now is I do not have anymore the original serial naumber and only the last upgrade.
Can anybody help? Thanks in advance

Migration to new mac and now compressor wont work

after a migration - new 6 core - my final cut studio (2) - doesn't all work. final cut works, but compressor tells me to restart or verify that my instillation is correct. DVD studio doesn't work either....
help!!!

David is spot on. Follow his advice.
You need to understand that if you were running a G5 - a PowerPC chip computer - and migrate to an Intel chipped computer, the binary code to run the program on the new computer will not be present. Your G5's FCS installation doesn't have any intel code on it. FCS requires intel specific code on intel machines.
Also, you will need FCP v5.1 or higher to run on the intel machine. v5.0 or lower is not supported.
Heck, even migrating pro apps between machines on the same processor can be problematic due to the specificity of the chips and how FCS stashes system files. Sometimes they are not copied over or the frameworks are the wrong one for the processor or version of OSX.
Best practice is to always do a fresh installation from the disks (or disk images) then use software updater to bring it up to the current update.

I have the iphone 4 and just updated my phone to the newest software. The download went fine but I realized a little while later that the apps that I have purchased won't open. I replugged it into my computer and syncd it again, but that did not help. When an app such as Facebook or Twitter is clicked on it looks likes it going to open but then just closes. Any suggestions?

purchased a G5 iMac to replace my aging dell desktop,

(I've had an ibook for a few months now). Anyway, I

1. Does anyone know of a (free) mail notifier tool,
that will alert me when I recieve new pop3 mail? I
used to use AIM for this in windows
The built in email program does sound an alert for new messages.
2. Anyone know of a good (free, again) IRC client?
iChat works well.
3. I noticed earlier that my screen was flickering,
it seems to have subsided for now, but is that normal
to encounter in a new display? It wasn't really bad
flicker, but I could see it.

4. I leave my desktops on 24/7x365, will that be a
problem with this iMac? Display shuts off of course
after 30 mins
You could set the iMac to go to sleep after non use. My Macs are
always sleeping when not in use, waking them up takes seconds.
Unlike windoze, never knew if it would be locked up or not.
5. Should I get the extended warranty? I'm usually
against them, but I am expecting this computer to
last me at least 3 years (for $1300 it better!)
before I upgrade, as I got that much out of a Dell
and from what I understand, Mac's do not age nearly
as fast as Windows pc's.
It is well worth the cost. Never know what might happen. Also
it is good insurance for future upgrades. I traded in my G4 tower
purchased two years ago for 75% of what I paid for it. Apple care
transfers, giving the buyer the remainder of your warranty.

Ok, so the likely cause is 1 or more Songs are tripping up iTunes Match. To resolve, move to Song view, switch on iCloud Status and iCloud Download fields - sort the view on iCloud Status - identify Songs with status other than Purchased, Matched or Uploaded. Temporarily remove them from the library, allow iTunes Match to complete the 3-step process. Gradually import the Songs back in - any that cause a repeat failure, place in a playlist, burn to audio CD and import as 256k AAC.
Note: iTunes Match service in UK at present is intermittant, may be worth trying from 1200 tomorrow to give Apple the chance to complete its current updates.

Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when opening iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (or C:\Username\Music\iTunes\ in Vista). Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

I just purchased a new imac and after connecting my HP CP1215 color laserjet printer found that HP does not support this printer. I contacted Apple support and they could not supply any help. Is there a alternate way/software avalable to make this printer work with my imac?

Of course, once I posted this, I tried again and downloaded the driver without issue.
My second question still stands, however:
Scanning is not supported on my printer model with the Hewlett Packard Print 2.12 driver. Will support be forthcoming, or did Mountain Lion brick my scanner?
