New iMac Aperture 3 refuses to run

Why is it the ONLY app that won't run on my new iMac is an Apple pro app?
It asks for a serial number, I put in my Aperture 3 serial number then it asks for the 'original' serial number since it's an upgrade (why is won't validate a serial number that's been used for a couple of years now is well beyond my ability to understand) so I put in the "original' serial number (version 1 i think) and it says it's invalid but it is the original serial number. If it wants the aperture 2 number then a) it should ask for it and b) I don't have it. I have the original and the upgrade.
So now I have work to do and a program that won't run. Thanks Apple. Merry Christmas.
Any solutions?
Or is it time to buy lightroom and try to figure out a way to get my 1000's of pics out of Aperture databases?
Oh, and iPhoto says it can't (won't) open any of the Aperture databases because I need to open them in Aperture 3.3 even though I've been running 3.4.3.
It seems totally screwed up.
Any ideas?
Sorry for the rant but Apple products are supposed to work - they always used to at least. Never had this kind of problem upgrading to a new mac ever.

Thanks, Frank, but I went that route yesterday. I have both my order_acknolwedgement and shipping_notification for Aperture 1.5 (Feb 2007) and Apple will NOT take those as proof of purchase! It seems you have to keep the original invoice. Who keeps invoices for 5 years?
When I try to go to Apple order services (since I do have an order number), all I get is "Apple Order Services Are Busy Try Again Later" (yesterday and today).
I have never had such trouble getting a legitimate copy of software to work. I founded and grew a software company of my own with over 250,000 users and we'd be out of business treating legitimate customers this way.
I'll pay 150 for LIghtroom 4 and all the hassle of moving over to it rather than give Apple an unneccessary additional 79 dollars to get my bought and paid for copy of Aperture to work.

  • Brand new iMac 3.4GHz fan runs all the time - how do I stop it?

Hi, just opened my shiny new imac but the fan runs all the time and very loud! Has anyone any ideas how to fix this or should I return the imac to apple?
I've also noticed that none of my external drive icon show up on the desktop - nor does the imac hardrive icon appear - any ideas?
    Thank you in anticipaction.

Try an SMC reset, you may need to do it at least 2x.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • New iMac & Aperture 2 & Photoshop CS4

I'm purchasing a new 21 inch iMac, 3.33Ghz, 8GB, 1 TB, & ATA 4670. My ? is simply is this new imac appropriate for using these 2 programs? Raw photos. Nikon D90. Oops, 2nd ?. Does Aperture work with Ps CS4 fluidly, ie. without problems?

Yes that would work very well, however from a screen real estate perspective I'd probably go with the 27" iMac. Also do not purchase the additional 4 GB of RAM from Apple. You can purchase it for significantly less from dependable vendors such as Crucial and OWC. If you are in the US the difference in price would be $200 Apple vs. $89 OWC.

  • New iMac 2 extra displays running bootcamp

I am looking to get a new iMac, but would like to know if external displays are supported when running bootcamp. (You may see where I am going here), PC gaming with flight sims. Optimal would be to use 2 Apple displays connected via Thunderbolt, (but not necessary to be Thunderbolt).
Any experience with this setup???? Thanks for your reply.

Probably late reply... Anyhow: no, atm windows is not properly supporting thunderbolt, thus you can run only one additional monitor in bootcamp (a shame, i cannot run iracing with a triple display setup!)

I think I might be in the wrong community here, but anyway. I have a new 21" iMac intel running OS 10.7.  It locks up when on youtube as well as when viewing site on the internet.  I have little knowledge in these matters.  Any help would be helpfull.

  • New iMac Not Recognizing iBook Running In Target Mode

Help!! I am helping a friend transfer all of her files and settings from her old iBook to a new iMac. I have repeatedly followed the instructions for using the Migration Assistant but the new iMac does not recognize the iBook after it is started in Target Mode. I have switched cables, zapped the pram, used the startup disk to repair disks and permissions. I can plug in an external firewire drive and it recognizes it immediately. I was called Apple Support, talked with first layer technician, was put on hold for next level of technician, put phone on speaker, person came back, said they couldn't hear me and hung up. Called back and low and behold it was quitting time. Very, Very frustrated.

Several posters have reported this. A solution that has worked for some is to place a powered firewire hub between the two machines (if you external FW disk is self powered and has two FW ports, that might work).

  • Got new iMac, can no longer run Aperture on MacBook

I recently upgraded to Aperture 2. It was running fine on my Mac Book Pro. Then I got an iMac. I've been running Aperture on that, no problem. Now when I go to launch Aperture on my MacBook, it tells me to enter the serial #. I enter my upgrade #, and it asks for the original. I cannot find my original Aperture 1 package or serial #. What can I do?? Is there any way to get my original serial # and run Aperture on both of my machines?

If your registration is fully legitimate call 1-800-SOS-APPL and make them work it out.

  • Brand new iMac, Aperture installed from Mac AppStore crashes on startup

I installed Aperture 3.0 from the Mac AppStore yesterday, but it crashes immediately on running, with this message:
    Dyld Error Message:
    Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
    Referenced from: /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/MacOS/Aperture
Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:
/Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager: no matching architecture in universal wrapper
I bought my iMac a few days ago. There's a few apps installed, including Final Cut Express 4.0 - installed from CD - which given all the other threads I've read with the same crashing message, may make a difference.
I used the Aperture troubleshooting basics (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805) - let me explain each step.
    - I just bought my iMac, brand new last weekend, if it doesn't meet system requirements I'll eat my hat
    - It wasn't the first thing I tried, but I have since run a "Software Update" which included updates for both Final Cut Express and Aperture... after they installed, I rebooted and Aperture still crashes on startup with the same message
    - The Aperture first-aid-tools are irrelevant I'm afraid. If I didn't know any better, I'd say they didn't work at all - as holding Option/Command while starting Aperture makes no difference... but I suspect the crash happens before the tools get a chance to run
    - Time Machine backups would also be irrelevant since this is a fresh install (what does "Restore the Library" mean anyway - what library?)
    - Restoring Aperture back to its original settings is irrelevant since I haven't changed any
    - I tried reinstalling Aperture, exactly as described. I deleted Aperture from Applications, went to the Mac AppStore and redownloaded it; rebooted; it still crashes in the same way
Here's more of the message below... and yes, as you can see, I've tried more than 50 times ;-(
If I have to reinstall the OS, I might just as well get a refund. I'd love to solve this, but I seriously hope reinstalling the OS is not required.
I just spent 3 days solving an issue where I couldn't download any apps from the AppStore at all, so please let me sell an iMac to my mother without explaining how long it takes to download 1 app and get it running on a brand new machine !

I believe the second half of the solution addresses what you are experiencing. You don't have to re-install the OS, just try the 10.6.6 combo update:

  • HT1338 As a teacher, I have purchased Gradekeeper and my brand new iMac is refusing to allow it to be opened.  Help!

I am a teacher and have purchased Gradekeeper.  My brand new (3 months old) iMac Leopard (or Snow Leopard - I am not certain) does not allow me to open my Gradekeeper Installer.  Hence, I am unable to enter into my previous gradings.

Gradekeeper 6.7 is here, OS X 10.4 or later including OS X 10.8
    http://www.gradekeeper.com/download.htm
To run the installer and the program on Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, you will need to bypass Gatekeeper. Control-click or right-click on the installer or program icon and choose open from the menu that appears. A dialog will appear asking if you're sure you want to open it. Click Open. You will only need to do this the first time you run the program.
That's likely the problem, Gatekeeper has to be bypassed.
If you got the version off the AppStore, it's likely a older version as AppStore software is about 4-8 weeks behind as Apple reviews each and every one, every time.
Also it might be the developer no longer wishes to be part of AppStore ecosystem, the 30% Apple cut might be too much.

  • Fairly new iMac freezes, refuses now to reboot.

My colleague has an intel iMac that has periodically frozen but always it has come back on reboot. I agreed to help her maintain it if I could use it as a server for my intel fink debian packages, so it looks like I am responsible...
Anyway, fsck and the startup disk utility both report this:
    "Invalid volume header"
    "invalid sibling link"
    Volume check failed"
"Volume could not be repaired because of an error"
The data is still there, but I would prefer not to have to scrape it off.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I'll give it a try. I hope it doesn't shake me down
for a payment in the middle of a rescue.
If you use the demo, I think it allows you to recover just one file under a certain size, but it'll show what it thinks it can recover. I never used the download version, though, so I'm not sure. I just bought it outright, not even really caring about a demo. I was nearly to the point of calling a drive recovery company, so I was pretty desperate.
Also, is there some way for me to mount an external
firewire drive while in single user mode?
A quick Google didn't turn up anything useful. You could just install the OS on a firewire drive, boot from it, and run your recovery from there. Or use Firewire target disk mode from another Mac. I've done that, too.

  • Is there a way to turn the new iMac screen off while running a song?

I know the key command is shift control eject-- and it works-- but only for a few seconds. Does anybody know how to turn the screen off so that it will stay off for any serious period of time?
I used to do this in my g5 by just turning the monitor off. great to trick to ensure that i'm listening to a mix w/ my ears--- not my eyes.
    thank you

Thank you for all the responses.
I've tried the black cloth. it's okay-- but i wind up have to attach something to the iMac--- and my clients are very sensitive to the things look here. i think it's petty-- but whatever. Also-- i have to constantly be taking it on/off as i make ajustments.
As far as turning around goes-- this is okay. I've tried it. the thing is-- your the way your ears receive sound-- is significantly different when you turn around. not drastically-- but again-- i'm talking about slight adjustments anyhow. any little difference can throw things off.
And the idea of a screen saver-- well-- here's the thing: when i'm trying to think only of music-- i don't even want to have to look at a computer screen. Imagine if you owned a nice pioneer 1970's stereo receiver and killer set of speakers. But everytime you were listening to it-- you had to look at a some sort of computer image. just not that pleasant.
comfort is pretty important to me at this point and that's kind of the whole goal. to still sit where i sit, look where i look, but not have to see a lit display on a computer screen.
i will try the hot corner thing.
thank you all for your responses.

  • Can I use the old Classic mode on a new iMac?

On my old iMac G5 running OS X 10.3.9, I also had a "Classic" mode that worked with all my old apps. I just bought a newer iMac (10 months old) running OS X version 10.6.6. Can I install Classic on it too? If not, is there some other way that I can run my old Photoshop, Word etc. on my new computer?

The various free Office-like open source applications are great, however learning to use the Gimp, for anyone who is used to the way Photoshop and Mac programs work, is a challenge. And that is an understatement of the case! Instead of struggling with the Gimp, for less than 100 bucks one can buy Photoshop Elements. It will do everything the Classic version of Photoshop would do, that "regular" people would want, and then some (there are some things that professionals do, such as working with CMYK, that Elements doesn't do). Another option is Pixelmator, but I've been trying it (it was on sale in the new Mac App Store), and it just isn't as good as PS Elements, and its regular price isn't all that much cheaper.

  • Is there a way to instal Final cut studio 2 in the new iMac with Lion?

My new iMac arrived with pre installed Os x Lion. When tried to instal FCS2 it gives me error that it can't open it because PowerPC apps are no longer supported. Geniuses . I'm wandering, since I can't downgrade to snow leopard, is there a way around this. Can I buy the snow leopard, instal only the Roseta , instal FCS2 and then uninstall the Roseta?
Has any of you encounter this problem?
Are the new iMacs exclusively done to run with Lion?

You will need to install Snow Leopard in order to be able to run the FCS 2 Installer since it requires Rosetta. Note however, that the applications do not require Rosetta (they are UB). So after having installed FCS you could now upgrade to Lion if you want .... but upgrading the OS over an installed version of FCS is not recommended practice.
Personally, I'd just get a copy of Snow Leopard and stick with that .... or get FCS 3 (and stick with Snow Leopard).

  • New iMac won't open iPhoto library

I copied the iPhoto library from my MacBook Pro to my new iMac. I was running iPhoto 9 on the MBP. When I double-clicked the copied iPhoto library on my iMac, iPhoto opened and said it would have to update the library and I clicked ok. Nothing happened. I waited a long while and closed iPhoto. When I reopened it it was empty. Now when I click the library icon it opens iPhoto but nothing at all happens, not even a dialog about updating.
Also, the library is not visible in Finder but I know it's there because I can see it with Pathfinder.

  • Bought New iMac and want to move Music from PC

I just bought my new imac and it will run all my music. I had done a lot of work on rankings and such, so i do not want to lose that info.
I ad saved all my music on a secondary drive and I know copied it all to the iTunes folder. How do I copy the Library info and the playlists? Also how will the ratings come over? I read a few articles and they dont answer the question very easily/ Pls help

If all of your music is located inside the iTunes Library folder, move it(not just the iTunes Music folder) to the item in the Finder's sidebar named Music on the Mac. That folder encloses the iTunes Music folder by default.
