New iMac can't access remote speakers in iTunes

i use an airport express to play music from eMac to my stereo. This works fine. I just purchased a new iMac. I'm able to turn the Airport On in iTunes, and I can see my remote speakers, but the selection is grayed out. I've tried updating the firmware on the airport express, performing a soft reset, unplugging it, and nothing works. Thanks for your help!!!

Did you ever fix this? I am having the same issue!

  • Can't access remote speakers through airtunes

I used to be able to access remote speakers via iTunes through my airport express. Now there isn't even a button offering the choice. I have set I tunes to look for remote speakers.
If I connect directly to the PowerMac all is good.
Did a firmware update to the Airport and am running iTunes 6.0.2
    Any ideas?

i installed AE Firmware 6.3. that did not really help, but didn't cause further problems as well..
i tried deleting preferences files, dit not really help either
i then downloaded the 10.4.4 Combo installer from Apples Website and after that I had my buttons for the remote speakers again.
i had the SAME problem after EVERY upgrade of iTunes in the past!!! VERY annoying

  • Can't find remote speakers with itunes

This just happened randomly. I have Airport Express connected wirelessly to itunes, and then connected to my stereo. I have turned everything off (including AE, iBook, router - everything) and back on. itunes is still set to look for remote speakers, but it just does not see them. Yesterday it was working, today it is not.
PS I tried to download a new copy of itunes, but it will not install
Thanks in advance for your help!

Have you ever been able to see the remote speakers or is this a new problem?
I'm having problems with this as well, but I've been streaming audio to multiple speakers for several days. This morning I noticed that my remote speakers didn't showup in iTunes.
The work around for this appears to be to reset the airport (at least that's worked for me).
If you've seen your remote speakers before, then you might try resetting your airport by unplugging it and then plugging it back in or use the airport admin to update something that won't affect it's operation like the "location" notation.

  • Just added Lion and now can't use remote speakers with iTunes

I recently installed the Lion OS (10.7.4) and now I cannot access my remote connection to my home stereo for iTunes. I can't find the icon to even select multiple spakers.

I suggest optening the Print & Scan Sytem Preferences. Once the preference pane opens highlight your printer in the Printers column on the left side of the window, then click on the little minus sign below the printer in order to remove your current printer selection.
Once your printer has been deleted, then click on the little plus sign located next to the minus sign in order to re-select your printer. Once the 'AddPrinter' window opens simply select your printer from the list. Make sure the printer is powered ON, there are no error LED's ON, and that any necessary cables are connected to your iMac. Hopefully reselecting the printer will resolve your issue.

  • Can not get menu for remote speakers in itunes to come back.

I've been using airport express for many years.
A few months ago my modem went out.
While waiting for a new one to arrive, I still wanted to listen to my music. So I just selected computer speakers from the drop down in lower right corner of itunes.
The menu immediately disappeared when I selected computer speakers.
When I set up the new modem, the drop down did not reappear.
Tried a bunch of things. Read a bunch of older forums. Nothing.
It's been months. I need my music and I'm back at it again!
    Today (in this order) I:
Reset my macbookpro (option apple p r)
reset airport express (held in reset while plugged in, waited for flashes)
set up airport express from scratch. Named it. All seems well.
    light is green
Made sure find remote speakers from itunes pref was checked. (unchecked and checked it again)
Made sure itunes music sharing was checked from my firewall settings. (unchecked and checked it again)
    Restarted itunes (a few times)
    Nothing. Nothing . Nothing.
Airfoil says that if itunes can't find remote speakers, then neither will airfoil.
So I won't try downloading that as a fix...
    PLEASE!? ANYONE!?
    Yes my wires are checked.

I have pretty much the same problem.
I just set up a new Belkin Wireless N router, to replace my G and hopefully speed up my network, but now I've lost my Airport Express.  It's still hooked up to my stereo, but the light is amber now and won't turn green.
Also, my iTunes can't find my remote speakers, and I can't even get the menu which used to have Computer and Living Room on it.
How can I get my iTunes to find that little Airport Express dude?

  • ITunes can't find remote speakers

I know others have had this problem. I am running a PC with XP media center. My airport is wired to the network & green light is on. iTunes does not show the drop down box for remote speakers so nothing streams to my stereo. I have checked the box "look for remote speakers" in iTunes preferences. I have McAfee firewall which I have set to "open". I have loaded and reloaded iTunes, Airport and Bonjour trying all versions and upgrades via the web. The only notation I can find in Apple support is the article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108071 which is about as useless as ... well, you know.
    Any good ideas?

  • Buying a new iMac - can you use an external SSD drive as boot drive?

Here is the question: Can you attach an external SSD and use that as your boot drive accompanying an iMac? This way all the Apple warranties stay valid but I am not saddled with the expense of the Apple installed SSD price?
    Now for some background ...
I am looking to buy a new iMac replacing my loved but woefully underpowered Mac Mini. In a perfect world I would like the following set-up based on how today's iMacs can be configured:
    Processor: 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    Memory: 16GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x4GB
Hard Drive: 1TB Serial ATA Drive + 256GB Solid State Drive
    Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5
    Optical Drive: 8x double-layer SuperDrive
The problem is I'd rather not spend $3200+. I would imagine most people plug something similar in and then begin to ID must vs. nice to haves. So, here are my must haves:
Memory: Minimum 16GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x4GB (I was thinking of starting with minimum and then purchase the right RAM and installing myself)
    Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 1GB
Hard Drive: 256GB Solid State Drive
I like to work the graphics side and have a media library of almost 1TB (uploading, downloading, converting, editing, etc.). With my existing setup I have 3+TB of external storage but again, am suffering massively in the horsepower department as it takes hours for me to do what I believe a new iMac can help me accomplish in a fraction of that time. This is not my profession so while I looked at the towers I still need this computer to serve as a family computer as well. Appreciate your thoughts and feedback.
    Cheers,
    -Jim

Ok this is great as we are progressing through.
So yes it can be done but there's the caveat of the "pipes" once you go external.  The only option for an external SSD Drive with thunderbolt that I know of is LaCie's 240 GB version ... Priced at $800.
I think what I will need to do is suck it up.  The new MacBooks have the core technology I'd like but we really want the larger screen.
Last question - should I wait/when might we expect an updated line of iMacs? In a few months or not for a while? That answer may provide some direction if it is anticipated to be sooner vs later.
    Thank you!

  • I would like to have a storage solution that is accessed wirelessly, can be accessed remotely and is viewable in the finder side bar (mavericks)

I would like to have a storage solution that is accessed wirelessly, can be accessed remotely and is viewable in the finder side bar (mavericks)
Is this possible? if so, how? Thanks in advance

You have to pay for online storage, someone has to pay to keep the lights on. As far a getting it on the Finder sidebar, you did something wrong. That is where mine resides, see below.

Your phone is in recovery mode.  All data on it are already lost.  You must connect your phone to your computer and restore through iTunes.

  • New iMac can't find the old iMac via Ethernet

I just bought a new 27" iMac and I am trying to migrate data from my old iMac.
I have the two machines hooked together via Ethernet and have Etherenet turned on in the source iMac but the new iMac can't find the old iMac. The pinwheel keeps spinning with no success. What should I do here?

    What FireWire?
There is no FireWire port on the new machine so this is a non-starter.
Unfortunately you didn't read my post very thoroughly. You are correct, the new iMacs do not include FW however your old Mac probably does. For just that reason and more Apple makes a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter which you can use if you opt to use FW Target Disk Mode. You can find the adapter by going to your Apple online store or Amazon carries it to. Here is the Amazon link:
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Thunderbolt-to-FireWire-Adapter/dp/B008RXYOKY/ref=sr _1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1366831510&sr=8-1&keywords=thunderbolt+to+firewire+cable
However as I mentioned use TM or a bootable clone with Migration Assistant. If your old Mac was using any verison of OS X from Leopard (10.5.x) on at the very least you should have a  Time Machine backup!
Also use Pondiini's guide as AnaMusic suggests, it's THE GUIDE for using Migration Assistant and Setup Assistant. He has also created excellent guides for Time Machine too.

If you do not have access to your old PC/Laptop and therefore cannot transfer your iTunes library, this document is very useful https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

Can I access my husband's iTunes acct. from my iPad?  i have his permission & pass code.  We want to keep all music in one place & family accessible.

If you log into his account and download some of his past purchases on your iPad then you risk tying your iPad to his account for 90 days : iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
But it looks like that might change when iOS 8 is released in the Autumn (no date has been announced yet) : http://www.apple.com/ios/ios8/family-sharing/
If you have his content in your computer's iTunes library then you could sync it from there instead of risking the 90 days association on your iPad. If you don't then you could copy it from his computer and then sync it to your iPad e.g. copy his music to a flash drive and then add it to your library via File > Add To Library

Yes but you may run into issues if you want them both to run iTunes Match or automatic downloads.

I'd maybe try doing a search for Safari on your iPad first (swipe to the left to search). If it shows up in that search you can go to Settings > General > Reset and choose 'reset home screen layout' which will put it back where it would be by default.
    All else fails? Restore it.

  • If I copy a CD (either music or audio) on my Windows based Pc can I access the copy using itunes?

If i copy a Cd (either music or audio) on my Windows based PC can I access the copy using itunes.  I have a ipod Nano, 7th generation.

You should use iTunes to "rip" (encode) the songs directly into your iTunes library from the CDs.  This article provides a good description of how that is done using iTunes.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1156861/howto_rip_cds.html
If you use some other program to encode the content on those CDs, you can add any audio files that are in a format that iTunes can play (such as MP3 and AAC) to your iTunes library.  "Windows Media" files are not playable by iTunes, but the Windows version of iTunes can convert them while importing (as long as the files do not use DRM).
