New iMac condensation inside screen glass

I hooked up my new 24" aluminum iMac and after about an hour of using it, a 1" x 3" strip of condensation gradually appeared in the lower right portion of the screen behind the glass. Anyone else see this?

But apparently you need a lesson in manners.

The user apparently wanted to hear others experiences by posting something. The least you can do is not be rude and not basically say "who cares" and put your words more professional.
I Reported this post for having to give you a lesson in manners a 2nd time.
Standing by what you said is one thing. Being down right rude is another.
To the OP I give you this someone helpful answer. Yes if you think it's faulty take it back. As I posted here it might end up happening again. Several good posts on this page:

Since the iMac goes Glass > Space > LCD it wouldn't be totally surprising that condensation would show up there if there is a lot of humidity and the temp variations between the outside of the glass and the inside of the glass.
The space between the glass and lcd is not air tight. The glass is just a "cover" and not affixed to the actual LCD. It's held on by some magnets but there's still air going to and from between the lcd and the section that connects to the glass. It's like when you get condensation/ie., fogged windows in a car. The temp difference the air outside the glass and the air inside the glass as well as both surface sides it's a matter of physics that a fog will appear if the conditions are optimal.
I would at least call Apple or goto an Apple store so that there is a record of it happening in case any damage is caused by it. However do not be surprised if the fog goes away by the time you get there.

I have the magic mouse, don't know whether it is something to do with that? Any ideas?

If gumsie's suggestion isn't the answer, try logging into another account, like Guest, and see if you get the same behavior. You may need to clean the windows on the bottom of the mouse.

  • New imac 2013 half screen black

We just purchased a new imac 27 in.  Woo hoo!  hmm the bottom 1/2 of screen is almost black- like 85% black.  Bummer.  Anyone else have this issue.  Apparently turning it on and off 100 times is not the solution.  I was hoping for a software / driver issue but I am beginning to think its the screen.  Anyone else have this in 2013?

I just took my new imac out of the box and the screen is black, I can almost make out what's on the screen but its too dark! Has anyone else had this issue?

It's not 10.6.5 really is it?
Nobody that doesn't drink Kool-Aid should be exited about the new iMacs, Minis, or... oh wait, there is nothing else.

  • Bought new iMac 20" Faded Screen

I just picked up the new 20" iMac today, to replace my old Core Duo 20" iMac, and when I got everything booted and got to the Desktop I noticed the icons appeared to be faded. I did a side by side comparison with my old iMac and the icons on my old iMac were very Bright in color compared to my new iMac, anyone else having this issue, btw I tried messing with the brightness..

True. The old G5 17" iMac I had bought my folks 2 years ago was awfully bright out of the box, too. But, that isn't exactly the problem here. What you're probably experiencing is the result of the LCD film type Apple has decided to use on their new 20" iMac. If you look at the specs, it only has a viewing angle of 160 degrees which is even worse than the previous 20" model which had a 170 degree viewing angle.
I live in Boon De'Ville (aka: Myrtle Beach), South Carolina and we don't have an Apple Store, so I can't support my opinion yet. But if Apple is using TN film in their new line of iMac LCDs as oppose to IPS film like their Cinema Displays, then you among many others are in a world of disappointment as I once was/am.
If you're a designer or photographer, you'll notice the following…
Looking at your iMac head on, does your display appear darker at top, and washed out at the bottom? Use a solid color for your desktop image. Does it look like a gradient? If so, then most likely the LCD is a TN film-based matrix.
Because of the cheap parts, TN LCDs are produced alot these days. They are total crap and they are everywhere, like Circuit City, Best Buy, Costco, etc. It would be very hard to find an IPS or PVA LCD monitor, unless you go to a specialized tech store.
People need to be educated about this issue. It's serious. Coming from a much older LG (a beautiful IPS LCD), I never expected LCD displays to head in the wrong direction.
According to the specs, I'm guessing the new 24" iMac does not have this fault, since TN film can not display a 178 degree viewing angle. So, I am guessing the 24" iMac uses the same IPS film as their Cinema Display.
My suggestion would be, go to the Apple Store and see for yourself. Kneel down in front of it as if you were viewing it from your desk chair, so you can get a good idea.
For more info on LCD types, do a Google search. This topic is all over. Also check this link out: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/whichscreen1.htm

  • Condensation inside screen

I'm having problems with my 24" iMac, which develops condensation over a period of time.
I'm worried that it will cause perminent damage.
It develops at the bottom right of the screen and does feel cooler than the rest of the screen.
I know it is not effected by the surrounding environment.
Here is a photo of the screen
    http://yfrog.com/2pqdlj
any help on this will be great
    thanks in advance

    Hi Carl
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I'm going to assume that is an Aluminum iMac with the glossy front panel?
First off the front glass panel is held on by magnetic strips and is not sealed.
    see > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frfzESC-ahM
On that note there maybe a few things aggravating the problem:
    1. high humidity in your home or computer room.
    2. cooler than normal temperatures in your home or computer room.
    3. the iMac is not left on or used long enough to fully warm up and evaporate the moisture trapped between the display and front panel.
Most certainly it is not good for condensation to be allowed to build up over and over or sit there, it will not only cause staining but also might creep into other parts of the iMac. A few things that might help before taking it in for service or removing the glass panel yourself, are:
    1. to help dry the room air, run a small fan or use a dehumidifier.
    2. if you have central heat and it's cold n' damp set it up a few degrees.
    3. if you have central air and it's hot n' humid set it down a few degrees.
    4. leave the iMac running for a longer period of time each day or occasionally for a 24 hour period to see if that helps prevent the moisture from rebuilding between the display and glass panel.

  • Bought new iMac and having screens pop up

Hi there! I am so frustrated with this iMac. I just switched from using a PC for forever and now with this Mac I am having issues that I cannot find after researching it. When I have more than one window up on the screen and am reading or using one, all of the sudden they will all seperate, go back together, multiple times until I just have to minimize the other screens. And then the main screen will go slightly darker like I haven't used it for a while and I have to click on it to be able to use it. Help?!

Ho Lee may be right that Expose's preferences have become corrupt - then again, as a new user you may not be aware of Expose and the keyboard shortcuts that invoke it. If you aren't familiar with Expose, check out this Apple explanation:
    http://www.apple.com/pro/tips/switch_expose.html
Also, open System Preferences and select the Expose tab. There you can select the keyboard shortcuts you want to use.

  • New iMac 27 experiencing screen burn

I noticed when using Adobe CS6 Creative Suite that I am having "screen burn" where I can clearly see whatever I was working on still visible after I close the file or switch to a new one. The default on CS6 seemed to switch to a "gray" work area instead of the "white" work area that i have been so use to - if this switch did not occur I probably would not of noticed it to much. But now that I see it, it's hard to not see it all the time.
My fear is that this is going to get worse, and I have heard of this issue occuring. Anybody have experience with this? Should I be concerned of this being a continuing and damaging issue in the long run?

You have 90 days of AppleCare, why haven't  you called AppleCare and posted your concern?

  • How do you reduce the glare from these new imacs?

What can be done about the highly reflective glare from these new LED cinema displays?

The new iMac's have screens that have the glass bonded (glued?) to the LED screen now that supposedly reduces the amount of glare by 60-75%.
If glare is still a problem for you, there are a variety of different glare reduction sheets that can be applied directly to the glass.
You need to do your own search for these as I can't vouch for the effectiveness and ease in which these products can be applied and which ones are recommend or are best and which ones to avoid.

  • PSE 8 will not install on new imac OSX Snow Leopard

Re: PSE8 will not install on Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.1
I have a new iMac 21.5 screen with OSX Snow Leopard.  I installed IWork and turbo tax with no problem.  Nothing else.
PSE 8 installation fails after about 80% installation just as install for PSE 8 starts. I've spent hours on the phone with Adobe and they blame it on OSX   Error analysis states:   "Uncaught JavaScript exception: Unable to read Adobe file version for path /Library/Fonts/MinionPro-Bold.otf  Apple techs have also tried."   The latest communications from Adobe instructs me on validating fonts.  We have also tried  CS3 Clean Script since the install failed several times. Case # is 0181442609.    Nothing works and Apple techs are still researching.  Any suggestions from an Adobe professional?  I am new to the Mac environment so any complicated actions may require some "hand holding".
    Thanks to all!
    Doc

Doc, I would suggest go to the font location which from your post is: <Macintosh HD>/Library/Fonts/MinionPro-Bold.otf. There should be a font file with this name. If it exists, just "cut" it from this location and paste it on the desktop for some time and then try to install PSE again and see if that works.
If the font file doesnt exist and instead an empty folder names "MinionPro-Bold.otf" exists, then delete the folder and then try to install PSE again.
In either case, please do attach the installer log file in the forum thread so that I can have a look at it. They can be located at the below location:
    <Macintosh HD>/Library/Logs/Adobe/Installer/"...Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0...."
If there are multiple copies of the installer log files, then please delete them and then try to install PSE 8 again. If it fails, quit the installer and attach the new log files which are generated to this thread.

    Ankush

  • 27" iMac: distance between stand base and screen glass?

I searched high and low, but can't find this info anywhere..
On photos of new 27" iMacs, it looks like the front bottom aluminum part of the screen (with Apple logo on it), became narrower comparing to 24" iMacs. Meaning that screen itself is probably positioned lower than on 24" iMacs (which would be terrific)
I wonder if any of 27" iMac owners could be so kind to put their display in vertical 90 degree position and measure the distance between stand base (the top of the table) and the screen glass? I have attached the picture of the measurement I need.

    Thanks in advance!

I think the answer is 16.3cm. It's the same distance as on the new 21.5" iMacs. I already started a topic myself, asking the same question:

  • My brand new iMac (late 2012, 27") has a little scratch or something on the screen

I just bought a new imac 27", later half hour of use I noticed it has a little scratch on the screen, not on the front glass but behind it. too strange to be some dead pixel. Someone can tell me what is? Do AppleCare cover this? If they do, has to be exchange the whole machine or just the display? here is some picture:

It looks to me like a row of pixels but in any event you must return it within the 14 day period (or at least have a formally confirmed agreement that you will be doing this).   The latter applies if you live too far away from a suitable returns venue and it has to be returned by carrier.   Usually all carriage costs are covered.

  • Screen Cleaner for New iMac

What is a good screen cleaner for the new iMac? I've tride normal glass cleaner and it is a glass screen but i seemed to just make a mess. Please help!

" Never use Windex or equivalent products."
I'll second this suggestion. When I first cleaned my new 2013 21.5" iMac, I used
a "windex" type cleaner, and it made a mess (streaked and everything).  I actually though it was so bad that I had damaged the screen.  Fortunately, with water and a microfiber cloth I was able to clean off the "windex" streaking.
The thing is, the new 2013 iMac screen covering is more "plastic like" in material, and not as "glass like" in materials (as previous iMacs may have been), so it may be easier to damage (scratch) the screen surface if care isn't taken.
Always use a soft microfiber cloth (preferably with no sewed cloth edges - find a seamless edge microfiber cloth), to clean the new iMac screens.
If you need to, this "auto" microfiber cloth is one of the best:
    Mothers Ultra-Soft Polishing Cloth 16"x16" - Mothers MOT-155200
They are a hard to find style and are "no seam edgeless" style ... meaning they don't have a threaded sewed edge. Often many cheap microfiber cloths are made using a polyester sewing thread around tghe four outer edges, and even though the microfiber cloth itself may not scratch .... the four sided sewed edges can really scratch badly without knowing it.

Screen sharing setup in 10.5, 10.6 are described by the links by operating system.  10.7 is fairly similar to 10.6.
And if both Macs have Firewire, you can setup a Firewire over IP network for fast communication between machines.  Note if you have two different Firewire ports a 6 pin to 9 pin Firewire cable does exist.  There are no Firewire to USB cables.
