New iMac crashes permanently - bluetooth problem?

Hi all,
my new iMac (27-inch, Late 2013) is constantly crashing, especially after the execution of a particular gesture on the Magic Trackpad. The crash after moving the scroll wheel on a wired Apple mouse has so far occurred only once. After the phone call with the Apple support I have deleted and reinstalled the system and then copied the data from an old system from a Time Machine backup, and reinstalled my programs.
Unfortunately, the problems are still there. These are the results of EtreCheck:

Thanks for your thoughts.
I have not restored my system via Time Machine, but after reinstalling I just copied my documents and small programs on the new computer (no preference files or something like that).
The memory was installed by my reseller (four 8 GB modules from Kingston).

  • New iMac crashes, start up problems, flicker screen...

Purchased iMac four months ago. It seems to be a bit flaky – as a life-long and loyal user of Apple, not what I was expecting! Often have problems crashing or hard disc error messages at start up. Flickering screen.
Also not sure that I got everything that I requested at the store – I had asked for an additional back up drive in store when ordered and I've looked on my iMac and it doesn't seem to have this. Currently backing up to iCloud and on DVDs to make sure I don't lose anything if my computer gives up the ghost and dies!
Bit disappointed really. Never had problems with any Apple products before and saved up for quite a while to upgrade my very old G4 (which still runs like a dream, and only updated because it's operating system became incompatible with latest software updates) to a new iMac (which seems a bit buggy).
Asked around and a few people have found iMac to be less reliable than previous Apple computers. Anyone else have problems with iMac seeming less stable?

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.
You'll have to take up the missing backup drive with the sellers. The iMac doesn't come with one.

  • New iMac crashing after Lion and SN updates

Well this is my story bought my new imac Jan 2011 - Snow leopard 10.6.4 installed - worked fine problems started after upgrades to 10.6.5 and 10.6.6 - wifi probs initially then a tendency to crash to black screen about twice a day - just a little click noise then nothing often when surfing.... anyway endured this prob and thought upgrading to Lion might fix it...
After installing Lion my new imac ran for 2 mins max before crashing to black screen - I went online and tried all 'known' fixes (no help) - I am now back to 10.6.4 and have had a trouble free day ....been using macs since 1993 and never recall a prob as bad as this - still have a Blueberry imac running OSX beta (lol changed the clock) and Emac running 10.2

Also as a general rule of thumb NEVER NEVER EVER EVER  upgrade a computer that isn't 100% stable at the time of the upgrade. When you do you are NOT fixing a problem you are making the problem much more difficult to troubleshoot and fix. You may benefit by reading Understanding upgrade nightmares, this should help explain and possibly shed some light on your problems. My iMac has successfully upgraded over many many updates including major OS X upgrades from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard and now Lion. In each case the migration was simple and the computer remains as reliable as it did when it was new. This is primarily because the computer was stable on each upgrade.
My recommendation would be to start all over again with the base version of OS X that was installed on your system. Do an erase and install and only upgrade to the next version of OS X when the system is 100% stable. WZZ wrote a good guide on the process he does when he upgrades, I do something very similar and as explained each update has been very smooth. Please read his Update Process.

  • New iMac crash

I got a new imac last week, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB of memory. Itunes crashed it the other day and today Safari crashed. I needed to restart to get back on line. I don't know what to do. How do I find the problem. Should I return it, did I get a bad one ( I know that sounds stupid ) or are all macs like this. I didn't spend this much to have dumb problems.

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
should I return it, did I get a bad one ( I know that sounds stupid ) or are all macs like this. I didn't spend this much to have dumb problems.
Some trouble shooting might do the job. Applications crash for a reason.
For Safari... go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
When an application crashes you will be prompted to save a crash log.
The next time Safari quits unexpectedly, you will be prompted to save a crash report. Select "report" on the quit panel. The Crash Report will shortly appear. *Copy/paste the entire crash report to your reply here.* If you have problems doing it that way then try this...
How to locate a crash log:
    Open Finder.
Click "Go" in the menu, then select "Go to Folder".
Copy and paste this path into the Finder dialog:
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
    Click the Go button.
Finder opens the folder containing the crash log. Look for a the crash file with a date field that looks like the *most recent* and copy/paste in your reply here.
Since you are running Snow Leopard, *make sure Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, not 64.* Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
As for iTunes, please post in the iTunes Forum for help.

  • Video converters from app store and online making my brand new iMac crash continuously, why?

I have downloaded various video converters from the app store and online and it seems that no matter which one I use they all make my brand new iMac (I've had it less than 2 weeks) crash. I've wiped the disk once and reinstalled mountain lion twice as directed when I rang apple and I'm still encountering the same problem.
I would really like to find a way to fix this problem without having my mac sent away for repairs.
Has anyone else encountered this problem or know how I could fix it?

  • Brand new iMac cannot pair bluetooth keyboard and magic mouse

    Hi there!
Just received brand new iMac 21" yesterday. Unboxed it, turned it on and none of both bluetooth devices (keyboard and magic mouse) managed to get paired.
I was able to connect a USB mouse to log into the Mac. Did all turn off/on Bluetooth, turn off/on iMac several times with no luck. Weird thing is that when I lift keyboard on a 30 degree angle above my desk it seems to actually pair with the iMac but then when back to original position it disconnects.
I've tried the magic mouse with my 2008 Macbook and works flawlessly. After several attempts never managed to pair magic mouse with iMac and as said earlier keyboard is not working on a standard position on my desk. It is frustrating to have paid close to 2,000$ for something that does not even work out of the box... Any ideas or suggestions?
I'm planning to take it today to nearest Apple Stores but have a bad feeling about "genius" folks being able to help me out. Would be worth changing iMac for new one?
    Thanks a lot in advanced!

Thanks Barry! If SCM reset means the following:
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
I've done that several times yesterday with no success. "SMC Reset" sounds quite fancy but then you google it and find that is a "simple" shut down and restart protocol... I tried "shutting down" by both selecting option via OS and also physically on the button behind screen.
I appreciate the help but unless I've done that "simple" protocol wrong it is not working.
Sorry for the frustration from my side. It just seems too much of a vague story when you hear Apple friends talking things about "the best OS", "best desktop",...and then you pay about $2,000 and find this yourself.
If anyone else interested I commit to keep this up to date with the feedback I'll get from "genius" folks today. Hopefully they'll prove themselves to live up to their position naming.

  • New iMac freezing, showing Graphics problems and Wifi Problems on 1st Day

My sister just received her new iMac - 20 inch - 500 GB drive.
I started seeing problems during the download of the FIRST software update from apple. There was a black box in the lower left corner of the software update window where it should have been grey (or metal).
On reboot, I also occasionally show weird flickering graphics in the lower right of the login screen.
My new iMac also frooze about 4 different times during the installtion of various updates during the first 4 hours of use. Mouse and keyboard would not work. Once it frooze at the login screen after clicking on the user name.
I also had wifi issues. After three hours of use, my STRONG wifi connection was lost. Moreover, I could not see any other wifi stations. (normally I would see 5 other wifi access points from my sister's neighbours). After reboot, the other wifi access points would appear including my sisters but I could NOT connect to my sister's wifi access point. It said I had an error. I checked the keychain and it showed the right key/password for my sister's wifi AP. I had to run Mac Network Diagnostics and reset wifi to get things working again.
It sounds like a sick iMac. I know others have experienced freezing. But given all these problems, should I ask for a new imac?
    Rob
P.S. My sister got AppleCare as well. Maybe that was a good thing...

I had a long chat with Apple Support. It would appear that Apple's policy is not replace the computer unless it can be determined that it is a hardware problem (even though my problems started to appear right out of the box before I even had a chance to download any updates). According to the Apple product specialist, sometimes there are bad installs of the OS at the factory.
Apple wanted me to format the drive and reinstall the OS.
Fortunately, I did not have to reinstall the OS! I started to see graphics problems when I was asked to run the Disk Utilility off the Install DVD (so I could format the drive). So clearly there was a hardware problem.
In retrospect, I really wish there was an Apple Store nearby to buy Apple computers. I am sure the store manager would not ask me to go home and reinstall the OS etc and try again when the computer doesn't work properly out of the box.
Those who have Apple Stores nearby do not know how lucky they are!

  • Brand new iMac crashing often - is it ML??

I just bought my 27" iMac in July, and hadn't any problems for the first few weeks.  With upgrading to Mountain Lion, I've noticed my OS is crashing very regularly.  It's not a typical Kernal Panic, though, at least not what I'm used to.  The iMac will freeze, if there's any audio it'll stutter for a few seconds, and then the screen will go grey (but not the shade that comes from the top down), and a message will come up saying to press any key to restart the computer, or just wait for it to boot on it's own.
Is this a Mountain Lion issue?  It wasn't happening during the first few weeks I had this new Mac when it was on 10.7.4.
Here's the accompanying problem report that comes up after every reboot:

That is the problem with kernel extensions. You are always using them. They have modified your operating system. Even the latest versions may not be compatible. You may have to completely remove them.

  • Brand New iMac Crash (twice in one day)

I just bought a brand new 27inch iMac 2 weeks ago - its running Mavericks
Today I came home to find the computer switched off. I turned it back on and then later in the day came back to find it off again.
I went to terminal and typed "last" and saw two crashes listed (see below). My question is, how can I find out what caused the crash? Its a brand new machine, has 32gb ram and 3.5ghz i7.

Open the console app and look for the reasons for the crashes or why iot shut off. Do a SMC and PRAM reset.
Check the current hbernate mode with this terminal command.
    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
The a google search for the options available.
It seems that with certain hibernate modes the system goes into Deep Sleep, Hibernate, and crashes when coming out of it. So if your system is doinig that disable the Deep Sleep, hibernate mode, and test.
The hibernate mode is where the system write RAM data to the Sleep Image files on the hard drive and then is supposed to load that back into RAM when you wake it up. Somewhere in that process the system crashes.

  • I love my new iMac! One minor problem, though...

My 20" just arrived today. So far nothing but a great experience, save one minor quirk.
Note: I'm updated to the latest build of OS X (10.4.5, I believe -- remember, I'm new to the Mac world :D)
Either way, the problem is this: after my computer has gone to sleep, once I wake it up, the volume keys on the keyboard don't work. After activating Front Row, however, the keys started working.
Odd, huh? Does this sound like a software glitch or a hardware bug? I could go get a new keyboard, but it's really only a minor inconvenience, and if it could be fixed by an update, I'd rather do that.
PS-- Anyone have a iTunes album art utility that would automatically get the art and load it for my entire music library? I don't have any art, and it would take way too long to do this all by hand...
Many thanks if you're able to help in either of these situations

Note: I'm updated to the latest build of OS X
(10.4.5, I believe -- remember, I'm new to the Mac
    world :D)
You're correct; that's the lasted version.
Either way, the problem is this: after my computer
has gone to sleep, once I wake it up, the volume keys
on the keyboard don't work. After activating Front
Row, however, the keys started working.
Since they start working again after you've run Front Row it's almost certainly a software glitch. It probably worth calling Apple to let them know you're having the problem. Hopefully 10.4.6 or another update will fix the problem.
PS-- Anyone have a iTunes album art utility that
would automatically get the art and load it for my
entire music library? I don't have any art, and it
would take way too long to do this all by hand...
I've only tried using Album Cover Finder, http://www.amphonicdesigns.com/albumcoverfinder/
It's not free but there is a "light" version you could try. I'm sure there are other utilities out there but I've never really looked.

  • New imac - same CD burner problem?

just migrated from an older intel imac to a brand new 27" i7. The old one didn't recognize blank CD's. The new one doesn't either, similar to many, many threads on this forum. I can burn audio files from itunes, but cannot burn from finder. it reads all manner of cd's and dvds - as long as there is content on them. tried PRAM reset, all apps are latest update. Since one of the reasons for getting the new machine is to have a working CD-burner, this is obviously disappointing.

    Ok thanks...found LaunchDaemons...but no com.wddvr.plist
    Only contains 2 items:
    file://localhost/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.adobe.SwitchBoard.plist
    file://localhost/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.third_party_32b_kext_logger.pli st
    Does that seem OK?
Any other clues as to why my cd burns are not working?
The fault is intermittant...seems to burn ok then won't verify and I get a message that it hasn't written the files and I should try with another blank disc.
Usually works on the second disc. I've tried many different manufacturers and all the same.
Also it seems to be more reliable with dvds.
    I'm on a iMAC 10.6.8 Intel 3.6GHZ Core i5...Only just over a year old
    Thanks again
    Phil

  • IMac crashing and display problems

I've been getting weird graphical glitches while playing World of Warcraft, such as this kind of thing: http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/1582/piccie10gl.jpg
Also, occasionally my computer will completely freeze up, or at least the monitor does. Everything will just freeze except the cursor, but I continue to hear sound as if it hasn't frozen. Once this even happened while I was burning a CD, and as I could hear the CD continue to burn I left it for a few minutes and came back and forced a shutdown and then restarted the computer, and the CD had finished burning.
Other times the screen will go black, and once it even flashed a dim gray color on and off.
I haven't ever seen this kind of thing before so I'm at a loss as to what to do about it. It seems to happen most when I'm playing World of Warcraft. Could it be the graphics card? I have an upgraded card, 256mb I believe.
I also have a very full hard drive at the moment (about 85-90% full, 250 gigs) which is the only thing that has changed between now and when this problem started.
Anyone experienced this problem before and/or know what is causing this?

    Hello everyone.
This was already posted on http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7359296#7359296
I had the exact same problem, and it was fixed after Apple replaced the logic board (motherboard) on my white 24" iMac 2,16.
It started last year with the exact same issues already discussed here as well as in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1441391&tstart=0 . Back when I bought it, I went to the Apple retailer store to ask about heating problems, as I thought my machine wasn't operating the fans correctly. They told me they knew of no problems of this kind, so I didn't do much about it after that.
About 6 months of World of Warcraft, iMovie, Photoshop, Youtube, Garageband, web browsing, word processing, iTunes playing, sometimes some of these all at the same time, my computer started to freeze once a day, then twice, 3, 4 times, and graphic tearing started showing up, first in WOW, then all over the screen. After some extensive reading here on these very same forums, I realized my logic board, being constantly subject to +80º C temperatures, simply started to fry up. One day, my iMac simply did not boot up at all.
Now its working flawlessly but again, temperatures get to over 70º, sometimes 80º, and the fans don't go anywhere higher than 600-1000 RPM; I monitor temperatures with Temperature Monitor (free app) and use smcFanControl (also a free app) and manually turn up the ventilation when I'm using Warcraft (5 hours a day). No issues so far.
The temperature on both processors, the GPU diode and specially in the power supply position is messed up, I believe by faulty controllers that don't manage the fans properly, leading to hardware malfunctions. Sadly, I have to say Apple, after turning to intel, has lost most of its reliability in hardware. My former iMac G4 never had any problems for 2 years (used Warcraft III there as well, and iMovie)
Anyone with these issues, if your computer started freezing up and showing graphical corruption, its most likely a logic board slowly dying. Take it in for repairs as soon as possible.

  • I have an iMac4.1 and my iPhoto is very slow and the thumbnails correspond to the wrong pictures.  How do I fix this? Or is my iMac too old?  Will getting a new iMac solve this problem?.

I have an iMac4.1 and my iPhoto is very slow and the thumbnails correspond to the wrong pictures.  How do I fix this? Or is my iMac too old?  Will getting a new iMac solve this problem?
I realize is only 512MB of memory but I want to make sure that a new iMac will solve this problem.  Can the new iPhoto handle 10GB or more of photos?  Or do I have to go to Picasa anyways in which case I can buy any computer to do that?

The model of Mac is not partcularly relevant, it's the version of the OS and iPhoto that matter.
iPhoto - since 2006 - is good for 250,000 images.

  • Why is my new imac i7 (os 10.6.4)crash every time I am in CS5 using filter tool-lens correction?

Maybe updating might help as you seem to be behind with the OS and don’t even mention Photoshop’s exact version.

  • Problem transferring keychain access to new iMac

just bought a new iMac, but am having problems with keychain access which has not automatically transferred with Migratiin Assistant.
can anyon help please? My old computer is also an iMac.

Are you really using 10.4.9? 'Apple Menu > About this Mac' should tell you the correct OS X version number.
The keychain is stored inside your home 'library'
On your old Mac or old backup find the /Users/YOUR-OLD-USERNAME/Library/Keychains folder. This may be hidden! You will need to use the Finders 'Go Menu > Go to Folder…' to open the library within that folder. Just drop the old home folder into that field to complete the path and add /Library to the end of it.
Double click that file & it should import that into the Keychain Access database.
Eject the backup & double check that you can still read items in the old keychain. It should copy it into the new library - but I cannot recall if 10.4 behaved the same way.
