New iMac doesn't switch off!

just bought a new imac 3 days back. When I shut it down last night it didn't shut down for a really long time. Today I needed to restart it and it wouldn't shut down. The the desktop screen with a 'waiting' icon that goes round and round kept flashing for more than an hour. I had to physically shut it down on both occasions. Is there a problem? I am new to iMac having used PC's all this time.

Yes, there is a problem, but if you just bought your iMac 3 days ago, the classic way to go is to call for some phone troubleshooting help.
Follow the instructions they are going to give you,
warranty covers all so it's free.
I guess after 3 days there is nothing yet unsaved that you would be sorry to lose, so,
have you tried reinstalling Mac OS X yet?
Reinstalling is not at all the way troubleshooting Mac OS X should go, still I was asking because if problem persists even after a reinstall, it means it could very well be a Memory (RAM) problem as well>

Recently updated 5G iPod to 1.2 doesn't switch off

Yesterday I'd updated my 5G 60GB iPod with the new iPod update from iTunes 7. Now, it doesn't switch off anymore, even if I make a hard reset. I also tried restoring it from iTunes and the problem stays. Neither can I get into diagnostic mode.
I'll never make an update so soon anymore. Please, anyone could help me?

New imac doesn't recognize firewire 400

Just got the new imac and transferred all data from my old (non-intel) imac using a firewire 400-to-800 adapter.
Now, my new imac doesn't recognize my external (400 firewire) drives anymore. One of the drives has an USB which works with the new mac but transfers are very vey slow. The other drive has only firewire 400 and doesn't get recognized at all.
Any solutions?

Adapters can be troublesome, I'd recommend replacing with a Firewire 400 to 800 cable like this one. You can normally find these at your local computer store, Radio Shack or of course Amazon.

Ipod doesn't switch off on its own

Hello,
I have a black Ipod 60GB and it doesn't switch off on its own. I know that the old Ipods will switch off on their own if you are not using it for more than a couple of minutes. So I thought the 5th generation would do that as well but mine doesn't and it's really annoying. Does anyone know if 5th generation Ipod should do that? And if yes, in which part of the menu can I set that option?

The iPod will turn off after 1 minute if there is a song on pause, or if there is nothng playing.

Do Not Disturb scheduling feature will resume normal functionality after January 7, 2013. Before this date, you should manually turn the Do Not Disturb feature on or off.
To turn off the scheduling feature, tap Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb and switch Scheduled to Off.

Which version of Photoshop are you trying to install?
Which operating system are you trying to install it on?
In short, if you're trying to install an older PowerPC version of Photoshop onto an Intel-based Mac then you're out of luck.
You could look into purchasing Photoshop Elements 11.

KT3 Ultra2 doesn't switch off

When I press on/off button computer doesn't switch off and reboot. I tried another memory, cpu and PSU, but with the same result. I measured voltage 12V, it falls down for a moment, but then rise again. This doesn't depend of Windows98 or DOS, because I had the same effect without hard disk.

Same problem for me too, but it's somewhat erratic. Sometimes it will shutdown, other times it will 'reboot' (It's not a normal reboot. You can hear the hard drives click into their shutdown state for about 0.25 seconds, then the whole system powers back on again).
I thought it must be to do with some kind of wakeup event, but nothing that I tried seem to change it. I just accept the fact now that when I say 'Shut Down', I have to sit by my computer until it either shuts down, or reboots itself (At which point I press the power button and it shuts off).
Stupid thing :\
I'm using an Enermax 410w PSU - I doubt that's the problem.

I made some tests and this issue will fix itself on Sunday January 6, 2013. It will happen the first few days of January 2014 (until Sunday January 5, 2014) if the bug is not fixed. Most first few days of most years seem to have this bug. The bugs starts on January 1st (based on the From time under Scheduled) and is usually fixed on the first Sunday of the year (except if the first day of the year is a Sunday, then it is fixed on the second Sunday). Years preceding years where the first day is a Sunday are not affected by the bug.
Let's check the next few years, this is the pattern :
2013 : Issue fixed on Sunday Jan 6
2014 : Issue fixed on Sunday Jan 5
2015 : Issue fixed on Sunday Jan 4
2016 : Issue not happening even though first day is a Friday
2017 : Issue fixed on Sunday Jan 8 (Jan 1st is also a Sunday)
2018 : Issue fixed on Sunday Jan 7
2019 : Issue fixed on Sunday Jan 6
2020 : Issue fixed on Sunday Jan 5
2021 : Issue fixed on Sunday Jan 3
2022 : Issue not happening even though first day is a Saturday

The same pattern happens if you go back in time as well.

Why does my iMac screen keep switching off / going black?

After about one half hour of use my new iMac screen switches off / goes black.
The screen can be switched on by pressing the power button on the back on the machine a few times. It remains lit for about 20 seconds. This can comntinue for about half an hour when it stops switching off or when I give up.
I have conrtacted Apple but they have been unable to solve the problem.
The machine is just not fit for purpose as I cannot use it for work.
It appears from the internet that this is a recurring imac problem.
Please, what am I to do?

Call AppleCare (number is in the manual) and then request to speak to Customer Service. Be patient, organized and articulate and they will transfer you. When you get to speakt to someone then explain your problem and ask for their help. You should have all your receipts, invoices, trouble ticket numbers etc available for reference.
You can also take to an Apple Store in Spain, while this may not be convenient at least then an Apple person can see the machine and work on it.

New imac doesn't locate old imac hard drive via usb port

I have an old iMac from ~2006 that recently stopped reading the harddrive. I pulled the HD out and connected it to my new imac via USB port but I can't locate it. The HD spins/powers up so I know the connector is strong enough to supply power. We connected it to my husband's PC and he can see that there is a harddrive but cannot see any files to read. He even tried Catacombe to try to read files but it didn't work. My first issue is how can I locate my HD on the new mac? But the main issue is how can I pull data/pictures off of the old harddrive and import them to my new computer. I don't hear any clicking sounds from the harddrive so it seems to be working. I can't reformat it because I don't want to lose the pictures on it. I don't need the old harddrive to work/write. I just need to pull the information off of it. TIA.

You have a problem with either a corrupt file system on the hd or a hardware problem with the hd. I'd say try mounting in disk utility. Try reparing filesystem on hd. Try one of the disk repair utilities. Some have a free trail that let's you know if they can do anything. You pay to get the data. Seek profession help. Pay $$$.

Just this new iMac doesn't have internet connection?

My network is working fine on two other macs running Mavericks. I purchased and set up a new iMac this week and it had been running fine. But this morning my hope network reads as though there in no internet connection...the wifi is fine and strong. Also, airport utility can't see my express or extreme.
Oddly though, the iMac and connect to my neighbours open network just fine.
I've tried starting and restarting, even checking to see f the problem was duplicated on the guest account...
Any ideas?

   Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly.

New iMac doesn't see old iMac data on Time Capsule

I have a brand new iMac - my Time Capsule doesn't see my backup, it sees my Mac Book Pro backup but not old iMac (which is broklen, hence new one from Apple). I can see old iMac data is there through browser but not seen by Migrate assistant. Any ideas?

New iMac doesn't see Apple TV, but Macbook does

Until yesterday I was using my Macbook Pro for the Apple TV. Last night I moved all my content over to my new iMac (copied actually) and I want to start using the iMac for Apple TV. (once everything is set up I will just wipe the content off the MacBook.... 96GB is too much for a laptop!)
Currently the iMac isn't seeing the Apple TV, but the Macbook Pro is. Do I need to remove the Apple TV from the Macbook in order for the iMac to see it? I am just hesitant to try it because there is a warning message that everything will be erased from the Apple TV if I remove it. I am pretty sure everything is on the iMac and therefore wiping the Apple TV won't cause me to lose anything... but I would rather know if this is the solution before I do something like that!

Thanks... I was just getting ready to ask a new question I followed the Help guide's instructions to do Settings > Computers > “Connect to iTunes” but we can only stream now with that. So thanks for the response, it helped me to know what was going on there. Now I am going to go see if I can figure out how to do what you suggested.
