**New iMac (early 2006) forum now available

Hey all,
There is now officially a forum for all topics, questions, etc, about the new iMac, with the Intel Core Duo chip, that was released today. **Please post all question there, as this forum is for the iMac with the IBM PowerPC G5 processor.**
Edit, I suppose a link would help iMac (early 2006) Forums.
Kyle-

Thanks for your encouraging report. I want both my computers (and the iPhone) to sync together via iCloud. Today I am syncing activities by using a Google Calendar and subscribing to it from each device. This is a one-to-many sync. Not a "all-to-all sync". Mail is OK thanks to imap. But Apple's vision promised more. Since my post I called Apple Support. They told it is not yet known how iCloud sync will work. So my worries cannot be resolved until this is published.

In the case of using Target Disk mode between computers, a similar restriction is also present. The adapter will work in Target Disk Mode; however, it will only do so if first plugged into the system before invoking target disk mode so it can be initialized by the firmware.

  • I would like to use my IMAC (early 2006) as a monitor for my macbook pro. Is it possible?

Is it possible to use as a monitor for a macbook pro an IMAC (early 2006)?

There's no direct input, but ScreenRecycler and Air Display both allow you to use any networked computer as additional display. I haven't tried either but perhaps one of them would work for you.

Just got this from a google alert.
Anyone knows if paralels is also not comparable with the new imacs?
    http://bgr.com/2012/12/19/new-imac-early-adopters-boot-camp-259318/

It is because of the 3TB drive. Since BC needs to create a FAT volume for Windows to install to it can't do that on that large a drive, 2TB limit.
There was a post the other day how to get around this and use BC to install Windows. It has to do with Partitioning the drive to a smaller size from a Boot disc/USB thumb.

Kodo 4 EA1 includes support for the majority of the JDO2 and EJB3

simplify the development of efficient mappings.
As the name implies, this release is an early access release. As such,

  • What is the maximum RAM for 2.16 GHz 24 in DDR2 iMac Early 2006

What is the maximum RAM that I can install on iMac 24 in 2.16 GHz DDR2 Early 2006 model?

    Is this your Mac:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac-core-2-duo-2.16-24-inch-sp ecs.html
I had the same model: officially it'll support 3 GB RAM; some people added 4 GB and it ran fine, but it will only address about 3.2 GB. I decided that wasn't worth it and made do with 3 GB.

  • Yes... There are issues with the new iMac, early adopters baby!

Hi, I am a new iMac owner.
Being a network engineer and having worked for the "devil" himself, let me tell you... I would rather be dealing with the tiny glitches with the new iMac than owning a Dell, Toshiba, HP but most importantly running Vista!
This is a new machine with new HW and drivers. I enjoy trying the latest and the greatest. I realize there will be hurdles to overcome with any new product, but come one people! Let's stop whining, and help everyone out here. We are all here to provide constructive feedback to Apple while helping everyone out.
    Yes there Display issues.
    Yes there are Keyboard issues.
Yes there are WoW issue and UT as well.
    Target disk issues.. Yes
    Lock ups.. sure!
My suggestion... If you think you are better off with a PC and Vista, well go to it mate!
Sorry for the ramble, but I just got tired of all the whiners thinking that buying an iMac was their solution to never having issues by leaving the PC world, or should I say MSWorld... LOL

I think few, if any people claimed they were going to ditch their new iMac for a PC. I like Macs, but I don't love them like I used to.
Half the reason people buy them, is because they think they can rely on Macs more. They are supposed to be stable, fuss free and easy to use. And they still are for the most part.
But these new iMacs make a complete mockery of that because they don't represent very well what Apple stands for. "If" I bought a PC I would honestly expect some problems here & there. Its just part and parcel of the PC package. And although I don't expect Macs to be 100% perfect 100% of the time, I certainly expect better than this diabolical shambles that is the new iMac.
Just as an example.. My 4 year old G4 powerbook.. Not 100% problem free, granted. But mighty close. However, it has not crashed once the entire time I have had it. My new iMac however, crashed 4 times yesterday alone, and it didn't even get used as much as my old powerbook.
Maybe now you get the picture a little better?
Just my 2 kernel panics worth...

  • IMAC (Early 2006 20-inch) Power Supply, Logic Board

Has anyone had problems with the new 20inch iMac Intel Processor computer? Purchased the new iMac and in a month the compute was wouldn’t startup. Repair was diagnosed as Power Supply, Logic Board. Apple store switched out a new iMac computer after 2 weeks trying to get parts. The new iMac was plugged in a power strip protector. Now 2 weeks later the new computer is dead and Apple store is saying Power Supply and Logic Board is bad. I am not getting any power surges at the office and it is on a new power strip. Has anyone else had problems with the new iMac?

I got the same problem... I buyed it 2 days ago, plugged it yesterday and it worked. Today, I unplugged it to arrange all my connections(tv out, optical sound, printer, etc...) and it replugged it and pressed the power button and then... nothing... I was so frustrated... I switched to mac 2 month ago and I seem to keep having problems
Ne ways, I went to an apple store and I'm waiting for the diagnosis I'll post more news when I get some!
    Ian
ps I'd like to add that the imac was plugged on a powerbar with surge protection.

  • New iMac (10.9.4) & now my HP Photosmart 6520 "scan to computer" function does not work

Recently upgraded to a new iMac running 10.9.4.  Printing works well from this computer and all other devices (iPad, iPhone, etc.).  However, the "scan to computer" function does not work.  In the "Scan" section of HP Utility when I click on "Scan to Computer" the error message reads "Scan to Computer Cannot Be Enabled. The software required for Scan to Computer could not be located on this computer. Please download and install the latest HP recommended software for your device from http://www.hp.com/support, and then try again.
Of course I have done this... twice... still no luck.  Also ran Software Update and there was an update, but it made no difference.

Yes, did all that... in order.  It did not resolve the problem.  However, I did find what appears to be the answer.  After re-installing the driver software DO NOT immediately follow the prescribed steps.  Instead, quit the installer, restart the Mac, and an Apple software update will appear after restart.  Install that software update, and even though the computer and software do not call for it, restart the Mac again.  Only then add the printer and follow the balance of the steps.  It works!   Thank you for your help.

  • Mail not working on brand new iMac (early 2009, 24")

I just got a new iMac 2.66 intel Core 2 Duo 24". I did a firewire transfer setup from my old iMac G5. I have been unable to properly open the Mail application. I click on it and it just sits there. I can see the Mail toolbar on the top of the screen, but no Mail viewer window opens. I can open my preferences and create new mail windows, but there is no way to actually check my messages. In preferences, my accounts seem to be set up properly, but nothing works.
Any ideas how to fix this?

I'm assuming while MAIL is in the toolbar, you've gone to the Window item and clicked on Message Viewer, right?

  • New iMac....now have a fatal error...

    I've transferred everything over to my new iMac. All of the apps are there but when I open them, and then select one of my files, it says;
    "fatal error - missing component"
    Tommy: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Version Cue CS4/Client/4.0.0/VersionCue.framework
    And then it quits unexpectedly.
What do I need to do?

You need to install Adobe applications.  Transferring them between machines rarely works out well.

    Richard,
You'll need to have 1.0.2.2 to be installed on the middle tier before performing the upgrade for your portal 3.0.9 upgrade repository on the database end. So that means, you'll need to wait for the Linux download of iAS 1.0.2.2 to be available before beginning your upgrade of the portal repository, assuming that your middle tier of iAS is also on a Linux box.
iAS 1.0.2.2 does indeed include Portal 3.0.9, of which Portal 3.0.9 components will be installed during the upgrade process along with the upgrade of the middle tier. During the upgrade process, the installer (from my personal experience on NT), will notify you that it is performing an upgrade installation of your middle tier, provided that you specified the middle tier's ORACLE_HOME when executing the oracle installer.
Just be sure to read and follow the 9iAS Migration guide before beginning your upgrade of the middle tier to iAS 1.0.2.2. After upgrading the middle tier to 1.0.2.2, the actual upgrade of the portal repository was extremely simple by comparison.
The upgrade of the portal repository took a few hours (my recommendation is to invoke it off before leaving for the evening), and it will leave a detailed logfile for you to peruse afterwards, if you choose).
    Best Regards,
    Harry

Does anyone know: is this exactly the same as the v 4.0.1.078 that has already been distributed?
