New iMac: filled out 'wrong' apple ID in setup assistant. What to do?

Our new iMac just arrived and eager as I was, I ran the setup assistant and filled out my apple ID (except for iCloud, skipped that to configure later) that I have for my iPad and iPhone. But since the Mac is the family computer, why buy all apps and stuff on my personal apple ID? Why not on a new apple ID to do all family purchases for the mac (and maybe for all other devices apps as well, I did some research and think I know the snags).
My questions: Are these all the services which are now linked to my Apple ID I filled out in the setup assistant? Or am I missing some?
iTunes
AppStore
GameCenter
FaceTime
If I reconfigure those four, with a (new) other apple ID, is my 'problem' solved?

If I were you, I'd set up a Separate User Name and password for each user in the house, so they can sync their own iPhones and iPads. But if all the iPads and iPhones are using the same Apple ID, I guess it doesn't matter.
Now, I'm not 100% sure what you're trying to do, but if you change the Apple ID (and use the new one in iTunes), it's going to cause some problems. You technically can have music and apps from more than one Apple ID, but it becomes a mess. I've got music from three other Apple ID's (I set them up at work for some unknown reason years ago).
Anyways, if we're not understanding your question, just ask away.

  • When do the new imacs come out?

I am fixing to purchase a new mac, but want to know when the new imacs come out so I won't make a purchase and the new ones drop the nest week.

The new iMacs come out when Apple announces a release date, which they haven't yet, and no one has anyway of knowing until said announcement is made.

  • When is new imac coming out

When is the new imac coming out?

Per Apple's web site the 21.5" model is scheduled for release in November and the 27" in December. No other information is available and per the Terms of Use of this forum we cannot speculate on future products.

  • When is the new imac coming out?

When is the new imac coming out?

I heard that it is this Friday (21.5 ")  But who knows for sure.  I am really dying to see it and see if it is truly 75% less reflective.  The only reason I don't have a mac is because of the reflective/mirror screens. I just cannot work on them. I am praying that the claim of 75% reflective is very obvious.

  • When are the new iMacs coming out?

I want to buy a new iMac but I'm not sure if I should wait to get the next revision.  Are they coming out soon?

History has shown us this for the last several iMacs...
21.5" and 27" was introduced in October of 2009
The next revision was July 2010..
You should be able to see the pattern from above. If you look back further for different models you will find other similar patterns.
We never really know for sure until Apple releases the next version.

  • Can't access App Store, new iMac right out of box

I hate to start another one of these threads but the only thing I've done since initially booting my Mac was try to access the App Store to download Xcode. Nothing has been installed. I can get to the Internet through our guest wireless. Everything is brand new straight from Apple as of today. No antivirus. We've tried making sure the class 3 public certificates are operating by first trying to set them to "trust always" then followed another threads instructions to get them set back to autos elect. Nothing. There's nothing on the computer, (other than mountain lion and ilife i think) so there's no danger of deleting any data, but we have no discs to do any kind of repair with. Help!

    Ken ...
    Congrats on your new iMac!
Check GateKeeper for downloading apps from the App Store.
Click the Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click System Preferences.
Then select Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Select:  Mac App Store and identified developers
If that area is greyed out, click the padlock icon bottom left corner of the window. You may be prompted for the admin password to make changes.
Restart your iMac and try downloading Xcode.
    OS X: About Gatekeeper
but we have no discs to do any kind of repair with
New Macs no longer come with install discs. If it's necessary to reinstall OS X, repair the startup disk, or reformat, that must be done over the internet. Apple strongly recommends a broadband high speed connection.

  • New iMac doesn't see Apple TV, but Macbook does

Until yesterday I was using my Macbook Pro for the Apple TV. Last night I moved all my content over to my new iMac (copied actually) and I want to start using the iMac for Apple TV. (once everything is set up I will just wipe the content off the MacBook.... 96GB is too much for a laptop!)
Currently the iMac isn't seeing the Apple TV, but the Macbook Pro is. Do I need to remove the Apple TV from the Macbook in order for the iMac to see it? I am just hesitant to try it because there is a warning message that everything will be erased from the Apple TV if I remove it. I am pretty sure everything is on the iMac and therefore wiping the Apple TV won't cause me to lose anything... but I would rather know if this is the solution before I do something like that!
    Thanks

Thanks... I was just getting ready to ask a new question I followed the Help guide's instructions to do Settings > Computers > “Connect to iTunes” but we can only stream now with that. So thanks for the response, it helped me to know what was going on there. Now I am going to go see if I can figure out how to do what you suggested.

  • How often do new iMacs come out?

I've never owned an iMac (Just the monitor). I'm keen to purchase a:

    8GB (two 4GB) memory

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M with 2GB video memory
    $1,999.00
Before I buy one, I'd like to know how often the new ones come out because I'd hate to spend all my money on one then a brand new version comes out. I'm not sure if they change the actually iMac (change the design/dimensions) or is it only the software that updates?
I also understand there are lots of options you can select, which impact the price, such as:
    Processor
3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
    3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz [Add $200.00]

With just the monitor would I be able to run windows software as well, such as FL Studio?
So I'm wondering what happens when I get his thing. Do I just turn it on and start using it as I would my MacBook Pro? Do I need to install things, configure updates etc. Will I need system unit or will a hard disk with a lot of space be equal?
I plan to use the iMac for absolutely everything, Adobe Mastercollection, Music Production (FL Studio/Ableton/Logic). I'd like to be able to plug in synths, digital pianos and I also need good sound, can I plug in speakers or anything?
As you can see, I don't know much about the iMac even though I've looked around and read reviews. Thankyou in advance!

  • OS X Server fills out wrong PayloadType for Exchange Web Services

    Hi,
I've noticed a problem with OS X Server, v 3.0.2, when you configure it to setup a user with a Mac OS X Exchange Web Services (EWS) account.
There is a drop down to choose between iOS (for Exchange Active Sync) or OS X (for Exchange Web Services).
If you select EWS and fill out the fields, the generated .mobileconfig file has
    PayloadType com.apple.eas.account
    followed by your EWS settings.
When you install it on the Mac it also reports it as an iOS setting and does not add the account.
If you manually edit the mobileconfig file, changing PayloadType to
    com.apple.ews.account
before trying to load it onto the mac, it accepts the EWS account and you can then see it listed in System Preferences->Internet accounts.
    Cheers,

Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)

  • New IMac - Stripped out screw

I turn the machine over to add couple megs of memory to see what screw driver I need and the screw head is completely rounded out. This is a brand new IMac that I received three days ago. The only way I can see to get the screw out is to drill the head off the screw. Any other suggestions before I get the drill out?
    Dennis
IMac 2.8 - 500 Gig - 2 Megs of memory (at least for now)

CWSwine: I had read posts about the screw and potential defect/stripping problems back in August. By a great coincidence, I upgraded my RAM earlier today RAM today and was a bit apprehensive.
I can tell iMac owners this: although the screw (and it is a screw, not a 1/4 turn latch) seems to be of a phillips head type, its center is too shallow to allow any one of a number of phillips head screwdrivers to work (i.e. grab the sides). I gently tried but could tell that if I continued and added pressure, I'd most certainly strip the head. What I ended up doing is taking a SMALL REGULAR SLOTTED HEAD SCREWDRIVER (a Craftsman screwdriver 3/32 in. head x 1-1/2 in. long) which grabbed the slotted sides of the head properly. With a slight bit of firm pressure during the turn, the screw backed of properly. Thank you Sears.
Not sure if this post reaches you in time, but give it a try.

  • How comes that, having everybody issues with infinitely long backups (combining mountain lion on new imac and time capsule) apple doesn't fix it? (my time machine forecasts not less than 6/8 days to complete the first one, 350 gig transferred from a pc,).

Within 6 days someone will switch off the machine, or power will go off, or some error will occur. I will have a backup when I'll have to replace this new Imac....

Always do the first backup at least over ethernet.. even if you have to use the TC in complete isolation from the network. You should be able to do that backup in about 6-8hours, ie overnight.
The setup is easy.. in complete isolation.. if you have no ethernet from the imac.. just use a short patch lead.. plug LAN port of the TC into the iMac. Turn off wireless in the imac. Make sure the airport utiity can locate the TC, if not press reset on the TC and it will go back to router mode.. ignore all the errors .. just locate the hard disk is working.. start up TM and point it to the TC.. do the backup.
Once this backup is done.. the hourly incrementals over wireless should take just a couple of minutes. Although if you are manipulating very large files then you may need to consider getting better connection, either using 5ghz wireless which is much faster but might need extender.. or ethernet or ethernet over power type adapters.

  • HT204053 i used wrong apple id at setup how can i change it now

I was restoring itouch and i used wrong apple id in icloud set up. is there a way i can change it now?

Settings>iCloud>Delete Account. Choose if you want to delete or keep the data from the wrong ID in your iPhone. If you choose "delete from iPhone" the data will not delete from iCloud server. The add a new iCloud account with the ID you want.
Maybe you want to change the Apple ID in iMessage and FaceTime to. Go to settings>messages/FaceTime  to sign out and back in with the ID you want.

I know there is a migration assistant, but I have multiple drives in my pc.  Will the migration assistant be able to handle this?  I'm going to be trying to move the date to a new imac 27' with fusion drive.

the following set of instructions is a little longer, so you might want to print it out and have it handy
    Step 1 - PC
If your PC already is connected to the Internet, hold down the Windows button on
your keyboard and simultanously press R. Into the opening window enter "cmd" (without
the quotation marks). A command line will open, enter "ipconfig" (again without the
quotation marks) at the prompt. Now find the section labelled "Ethernet-Adaptor" and
note the values for IP-Address, Subnet-Mask and Default-Gateway on a sheet of paper
If your PC is not already connected to the internet, you need to manually configure its IP address.
    open Network and Sharing Center
do a right click on Ethernet and select Properties
in middle of the screen there is a box labelled "This connection uses the following items"
out of this box select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)"
click on the Properties button in the right corner
Into the window "Use the following IP address" enter the following values
    IP-Address: 192.168.0.1
    Subnet-Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default-Gateway is the IP-Address of your Router. This value is needed for internet connection, for the file sharing setup only this value can be left empty.
    Step 2 - Mac
If your Mac already is connected to the internet, it is likely that it has automatically receive the necessary parameters from your router and therefore should be in the same network as your PC. To be on the safe side, you can check this by
    open System Preferences
    select Network
choose Ethernet from the panel on the left side of the window
    click on Advanced
    click on TCP/IP
compare the values for IP-Address, Subnet-Mask and Default-Gateway with those you wrote down earlier.
If both PC and Mac have identical numbers in the first three parts of the IP-Address, you are set.
If your Mac is not already connected to the internet, you need to manually configure its IP-Address as well.
In the TCP/IP window you have just opened select "Manually" from the drop down menu "Configure IPv4:"
    Enter the following values
    IP-Address: 192.168.0.2
    Subnet-Mask: same as with PC
    Default-Gateway: same as with PC
Step 3 - Activate File Sharing on PC
    open Control Panel
    select Network and Internet
    select Network and Sharing Center
on the left panel select change advanced sharing settings
in the middle of the new page enable turn on file and printer sharing
Step 4 - Activate File Sharing on Mac
    open System Preferences
    select Sharing
set check mark next to File Sharing (green circle appears on the right side next to File Sharing:)
    click on Options:
set check mark next to Share files and folders using SMB
in the listbox under the text Windows File Sharing make sure there is a check mark next to your account name
Step 5 - Create a share on your PC
In Explorer select the folder you wish to share
do a right click on that folder and select "Share with"
    choose "Specific people"
a new window opens. there select your Windows username (usually the first in the list)
if you plan to copy from Windows to Mac only, it would be sufficient to grant Read permission only, but, since most likely you are the only person to access that share and certainly do not plan to sabotage yourself, Read & Write permission is ok too.
    finally click on "Share"
Step 6 - Create a share on your Mac
Once the check mark next to your account name is set (see above) your home directory is automatically set as a share.
Step 7 - Connect your PC to your Mac-Share
do a right click on the network icon which resides on your desktop or in the left
    panel of every Explorer window
    Select Connect Share
in the text box next to Folder: enter \\<ip-address-of-your-mac>\<your-osx-username>
if you are using the same username and password on both Windows and OSX click on "Finish",
if not set the check mark next to "Connect using different credentials" afterwards click on "Finish" A new window will open where you enter username and password that you are using with OSX
Step 8 - Connect your Mac to your PC-Share
hold down the command key and press K simultanously or in Finder click on Go in the menu at the top of your screen and select "Connect to Server"
in the Window that opens enter smb://<your-windows-username>:<your-windows-password>@<ip-address-of-your-PC/<y our-windows-username>
    or
smb://<ip-adress-of-your-PC/<your-windows-username> you will be asked to enter your Windows username and password in popup window
Now you have both computers connected to each other. Each will provide you access to your home directory of the other computer. Open a second Explorer or Finder window with your local home directory and start copying

  • New iPod...can't get to setup assistant

Okay, I'm not a computer genius so bear with my description of my problem:
I am trying to setup my new iPod. I assume, from the Quick Start instructions, that once I get to the www.apple.com/ipod.start page a Setup Assistant will automatically start. I am not seeing a Setup Assistant. What could be the issue here?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Once you get here...
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/start/
You need to download iTunes 7. Once that is downloaded, connect your iPod. The setup assistant should then appear in iTunes (it may take a minute or so).
