New iMac from Crashed windows

What I have is a 5th generation IPOD with 5118 songs on it. I had a Dell computer that totally crashed and now I have an iMac.....1st one.
1. Is there a way to get the songs from my ipod to the new itunes in my iMac?
2. I do have some song (CD"S) purchased from iTunes that have not been uploaded to my ipod, can these be retrieved?
Any help will be apppreciated.
Thank You

Try Senuti.
It's a program that transfers music from iPod to iTunes on a Mac.
As is Music Rescue.
Both of these should work with a Windows formatted iPod because Macs can read and write to FAT32 formatted drives.
All your music can be rescued using programs such as these.
I do have some song (CD"S) purchased from iTunes that have not been uploaded to my ipod, can these be retrieved?
No other back up?
Every time you download music from the iTunes store Apple have to pay the artist royalties, so the official stance from Apple is that purchases from the iTunes music store can only be downloaded one time. Then, you must pay again.
This is why you are prompted to back this music up to a cd or dvd.
Some people say that they've been allowed a re-download for various reasons when they've contacted Apple.
You can only ask but please be aware that Apple are not obligated to do this for you.

I may be misreading what you are trying to do but you don't import libraries via the import window. You use File->Import->Library..
If this doesn't resolve your problem post back with more detail of what you are doing and what is happening.

  • Stop iMac from seeing Windows machines on wireless network

    Here's a conundrum!
Brand new iMacs from 10.5.8 - all see Windows XP machines in the shared panel on the finder windows. We need to turn this off as the new macs are on a school network. They need to be on the wireless for internet, but they can't see the office machines for obvious reasons. The sharing is turned off on the Macs and Bonjour is disabled on the windows machines so why can we still see and access the windows computers. Can anyone tell me how to stop our macs seeing the windows machines. The
windows machines still need to be on the network btw as the office needs to have the two windows machines connected to each other. The macs dont need to see any computers so how do i turn it off.

Our solution was to have a separate students' network with its own wireless hubs.
In our school we have a server configured to keep the office and the students' networks separate.
We then have wireless hubs for students and wireless hubs for staff.
In this way the computers are not on the same network, and this should also make it more difficult.
for students to hack into admin computers.
You should be thankful that this iMac made you realized how vulnerable your networked XP computers actually are, and that, at this point, they are still visible to hackers.

New IMac is crashing randomly..a semi-transparent gray veil appears from top of monitor and animates down the screen.  Message appears to restart the computer.  Running 10.6.7, 2.8 GHz Core i5, 4Gb ram.  What is causing this?

You've experienced a kernel panic; they can be caused by several things, usually though defective RAM can be suspected. here is some information for you:

I have recently changed to an iMac from a Windows PC. How do I delete files and reformat the memory card in my helmetcam?

If you return the memory card to the helmetcam, it may choose to reformat it before use; back to some FAT-16 or FAT-32 format many of these third-party cards and cameras use. Unless you were going to use it for Mac OS X and format it with HFS+ or in a partition map for Mac data, etc.
If not, the easiest way to reformat the card may have been in the camera itself. I've formatted several kinds of camera cards, drives, USB flash drive, and others. The means varies with the intended purpose. Sometimes the default is the best; since it is platform neutral if the device is seen by both players.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • IPad (4th Gen Retina Display Wi-Fi) (iOS 7.0.4) won't sync new music from iTunes (Windows).  Only solution found was to uncheck "Sync Music" under Music tab, apply, then recheck "Sync Music" and apply. Any other solution?

iPad (Retina Display) (iOS 7.0.4) won't sync new music from iTunes (Windows).  Only solution found was to uncheck "Sync Music" under Music tab, apply, then recheck "Sync Music" and apply.  This is timely and aggravating.  Any other solution?
I have also tried a hard reset.  I have also gone into settings and checked "display all music".
Anyone know if the new update will have solutions to this problem?

    Successful experience with Apple Care.
If anyone is having the same problem, there's a chance it's an issue with the Mobile Device Manager for iTunes. The key is to ditch the old/corrupt file and replace it via clean iTunes installation.
Here's the fix that worked for me:
    1. Trash iTunes (uninstall); don't forget to trash it from your dock if you have it there.
    2. Head to /System/Library/Extensions/ and trash file AppleMobileDevice.kext
    3. Head to /Library/Receipts/ and trash AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg  ( * this may or may not be there * )
    4. Restart computer (& empty trash)
    5. Download fresh & clean iTunes and reinstall.
Voila! The content is now properly recognized by iTunes, the capacity bar registers the correct amount and type beyond "Other", and now I can put music back on the iPad.

  • Migrate to new iMac from old iMac and am getting 'incompatible software' message.

Im trying to migrate to new iMac from old iMac and am getting 'incompatible software' message. I'm not sure what to do- can I revert back to snow leopard from mavericks?

    Hi Mark,
If you install Mavericks, or in your case migrate from an old computer running Snow Leopard (or an earlier version of Mac OS X) to one using Mavericks, some of your software that was designed to run on older computers may not function in the new OS. See this article -
OS X: About the incompatible software folder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258
    In particular -
If you see a message indicating that you can't use "this version" of an app, contact the software's vendor or visit their website to see if a later, compatible version of the app is available. If you purchased the software from the Mac App Store, use Software Update to see if an updated version is available there.
    and
During installation, OS X moves known-incompatible software to a folder named "Incompatible Software" at the top level of the startup drive. If this folder is present on your Mac, see what applications are in it, then check for available updates. To obtain a newer version of an Apple app, check the Mac App Store, or visit the Apple Store website.
Regarding installing an older operating system on your new iMac, Apple does not support doing this, as described in this article -
Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac

  • How do I migrate Lightroom 4 onto my new iMac from old laptop?

I have just purchased a new iMac, and would like to use my version of Lightroom 4 which I have been using on my old laptop.  Can I just download it from adobe.com on the new machine and then use my previous serial number to activate it?  Is there an easy place to find my serial number if I don't have the original Lightroom packaging anymore?  Do I have to deactivate it on my old laptop, before or after setting it up on the new machine?
After all that, is it easy to bring in my photo library from the external hard drive?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

    you need that serial number.

  • New iMac Keeps Crashing

So this is my second breand new iMac that I ordered direct from the apple Website - I got it about 5 days ago.  They had me return the first one because it kept crashing.  Now this one does too...
Here is the crash report.  It has crashed 3 times today - I have not installed any software that did not come with it (except Simcity, but it was crashing before that).
I have repaired the disk permissions already.
Can anyone help?  I really dont want to return this one too - I have wasted a lot of time setting this up.

  • First day w/ new iMac -- applications crashing

Today is my first day with a new flat screen iMac. I started out by transferring my files from my older Mac (Power PC), running 10.4.7.
After completing the transfer -- and downloading new versions of the assorted applications -- my new iMac has been crashing many applications all day long. Toast, for example. I've tried two burns tonight and both crashed during the final burn stage.
GoogleEarth is another. It won't even open on this new computer, crashing instantly. Internet Explorer (admitted, an old version), also crashed. PeerGuardian is another.
Why all these crashes? Did I do something wrong? Should I reinstall the master discs on this new drive, as opposed to continuing on with the transferred versions? Is it the jump up to 10.5.3?
    Thanks...

Migrating PowerPC applications to an Intel Mac can be unreliable. I'd recommend downloading the latest Intel versions of the applications you need and re-installing them. From a security perspective using IE is a bad idea and given that MS stopped releasing versions / supporting IE on Macs many years ago. Firefox 2 and Safari 3 are good browsers and Opera and Camino have many fans too.

  • Need to sync 3 iPods to new iMac from without losing music or apps

Recently, we purchased a new iMac, and we've had success transferring all of our files from our old Windows XP PC (circa 2000).  Now I need to transfer/sync three different iPods that used to sync to the Windows PC, preferably without losing any music files or any apps:
    3rd Gen iPod Touch (circa 2009, 32GB)
    3rd Gen iPod Nano (circa 2007-2008, 4GB)
iPod with Dock Connector, 15GB (circa 2004, the first generation ever to be Windows compatible, and, yes, it still works!)

Bringing the contents from your backup, as RG suggested, will be the best option. If, however, you neglected to make backups, see this support article:

  • Is it possible to migrate just a few programmes over to my new iMac from G4

I have just bought a new iMac 17" and I love it.
I want to transfer only a few files over from my G4 iMac. Basically the songs from iTunes, photos from iPhoto and one game and maybe MS Office.
I'm planning on using the Migration assistant but I don't want to copy everything across as my G4 iMac is full of stuff I don't want.
Is it possible to transfer just a few bits over? Also, do I have to use a firewire cable or I use an ethernet cable?
I do not want to start migrating only to find out that it transfers across all the settings I don't want!
    Thank!

Here's how I migrated files over from my G4 iMac to my new Intel one.
I connected the two iMacs with a firewire cable (for those with a G4 iMac, this is the cable which connects the iSight camera to the iMac).
Ensure that both iMacs are turned on.
Next, hold down the "T" button on the keyboard of the G4 and whilst keeping it held down, select 'restart' on the G4 iMac. The G4 iMac should then display the firewire symbol on the screen on top of a blue background.
You should then see an icon on the Intel iMac showing the harddrive of the G4. You simply click on this and drag over the files you want.
I initially had a problem dragging over the songs from iTunes as I didn't know where they were stored as I had multiple user accounts. They were all in the 'shared' folder.
To get to a user account, simply click on Go -> Home -> Users. If there are no multiple accounts, just do Go -> Home.
To get the songs across, then click on Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Music or simply drag across the iTunes Music folder.
Bingo! You now have the iTunes library on your new Intel Mac.
There is one final step, which I've actually forgotten how I did it, and that's getting the songs into iTunes itself. You need to open iTunes and then somehow import all the songs from one of the menus.

  • How do I transfer my data to my new IMAC from my old mac's hard drive?

When switching to my new IMac, I transferred my data, but the data that it transfered from was my old Mac's original hard drive. How do I transfer the data from my 2nd hard drive which has all my up-to-date info?

I believe that you are running into the Master/Slave issue when there are two or more HDs on the same channel.
As per the Knowledge Base article on How to use FireWire target disk mode
Tip: FireWire Target Disk Mode works on internal ATA drives only. Target Disk Mode only connects to the master ATA drive on the Ultra ATA bus. It will not connect to Slave ATA, ATAPI or SCSI drives.
When you disconnected the original drive, which was the Master, and changed the new drive's position on the cable, which had been the Slave, you made it the Master, which then gave you access to it.
You may be more successful if you use Migration Assistant if you erase and reinstall OS X. It is located on your Intel in Apps/Utilities. Be sure to use Kappy's post linked above for an intelligent move of the things that are safe to move from PPC to Intel Macs.
